The New York Times ran a front-page story Tuesday critical of Guantanamo. The article described the case of an Afghan man who died in Guantanamo after five years' detention, allegedly on false charges of being a Taliban commander.
It turns out the writer and co-author of the piece, Andy Worthington, was a well known critic of Guantanamo and of US policy. Now the paper's editors say they "were not aware" of the author's past writings on the subject.
Gee, maybe a simple google check would have helped? The Huffington Post, The far-left Counterpunch, AlterNet, and this revealing blog name, Guantanamo Blog, may have shed some light on Worthington's bias? Antiwar Radio also lists an Andy Worthington. Let's check out Amazon! It lists the book by Worthington entitled The Guantanamo Files: The Stories of the 759 Detainees in America's Illegal Prison.
The NYT have apologized, but geeze, isn't a background check Journalism 101?

The truth shall never deter todays MSM.. only their agenda...
I shudder when I think how many people in this country rely upon the tv and print for their news...
And they are the ones who vote.....

Ha-ha! Lordie, Lordie! Now doesn’t that sound just like the female the NYT has endorsed for president?! At least there IS something authentic about that endorsement.

New York Times pattern
February 8, 2008 - 21:15 ET by Lame CherryI honestly never read the Times unless Drudge has a link to a story, so I do not know who is involved there besides the communist owner.
In saying that, would it not behoove thee Newsbusters to enter in the names of the reporters in public searches.........including the public private access checks and see what pops up as there are just too many false reads coming out of the NYT.
I know I posted here awhile back about an ABC reporter I was just doing a check on as an experiment and it seems he and his family operate by changing their last names.
Deception is a trait which prevails in the MSM. If the Times gets caught, they are only showing a much larger problem like screwing up Wikipedia profiles and other false reads to perform their agenda.

The truth behind Guantanamo
February 8, 2008 - 21:23 ET by Gary HallKathleen. Leaving the journalism issue aside - as valid and obvious as it is. If I may?
Extraordinary policy of rendition. The leftist community led by the MSM and the Democrats has once again managed to create an angry and bitter public over an issue they simply do not understand.
Bill Clinton, urged on by Richard Clark, VP Al Gore ("Gore laughed and said, "That's a no-brainer. Of course it's a violation of international law, that's why it's a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass," Richard Clark) and others ordered the CIA to establish the US policy of rendition during the mid 90's. Basically a snatch and grab program designed to secretly send captured Al Quaeda terrorist suspects to places like Egypt where they could be imprisoned and questioned (torture? oh gee, really). According to former CIA operative Michael Scheuer - CIA renditions began under Clinton :
"We asked the president [Clinton] what we should do with the people we capture. Clinton said 'That's up to you'."
According to DCIA, Gen. Hayden, in an interview by Charlie Rose, on PBS the US conducted approximately as many renditions prior to 9/11 as we did after.
Enter the Guantanamo Bay facility. Simply put, the Bush administration sought to imprison the suspected terrorists we captured in our facilities rather then sending them places like Egypt.
Senator Feinstein, D. CA, and others, early on prior to the political polarization of the issues found Gitmo to be an idea facility, and suggested that the California state prison system should take a hard look at the proper way to run a prison, i.e., a model facility.
Summary. Clinton created a system of secrecy and potential torture that the world would surely condemn - if they only knew. Bush created a model system, in our control instead of foreign countries.

February 9, 2008 - 17:26 ET by BDI wonder if FOXNews in the upcoming interview with Ms Clinton will ask her any questions regarding this. Such as:
Gitmo has come under intense pressure from the Human rights community for simply inprisoning our enemies whom we are at war with, wasn't the Clinton Policy of rendition effectively worse, and what would YOU do with these detainees?
BD - No, they will not.
February 9, 2008 - 18:08 ET by Gary HallBD - No, they will not.
You know, I think that there are two parts to the problem here, as I suspect that Fox would, if they only knew (how can that be possible?)
1. There's simply too much bs news and opinion rammed down their throats. By and large the folks at Fox news get a lot of their news and views of the world and US politics from the same sources that we do. AP, AFP, Reuters, the nightly Network news, WaPost, NY Times, LA Times, etc. You know they go to the dentist and the doctors office and Econo - Lube, as well, and right there on the table in the waiting room is Newsweek, Time Mag., Rolling Stone, etc.
2. The Bush administration does a horrible diservice to themselves by not strongly defending themselves when under fire.
Why are so few people fighting back?
February 8, 2008 - 21:34 ET by general companySounds logical to me, they read a story that supported there treasonest ideology and printed it. Nothing new here,, right?
When will we force these folks to put up or shut them down? They campain for free for the Dems, all the while running suspect stories about Repubs and all under the guise of honest reporting.

February 9, 2008 - 00:18 ET by Clear thinkerAfter reading "Inside The Wire" written by a one time military interpreter Erik Saar I can honestly say I don't care what the NYT claims concerning GITMO. Mr. Saar tried to create a story of despair and agony for detainees that may have been innocent, and of course he blames our government and president Bush for their misery. I cared even less about the detainees after reading his book.
If some innocent people get caught up in the GWOT it is NOT our fault, the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the terrorists that started it.
The NYT can go to hell for all I care!
The Conservative movement is about to be reborn.

Liberal reporters don't find the news. They decide what they want the world to be and sniff out a story that fits.
