Whoopi Goldberg: 'Shum Jum Yum Yum' More Radical Because of Bush

Photo of Justin McCarthy.

Whoopi Goldberg’s solution to winning the War on Terror: talk to "Shum Jum Yum Yum," whoever that is. On the October 24 edition of "The View," the aforementioned co-host defended Barack Obama’s call for unconditional talks with rogue nations like Iran. Whoopi concluded that dictators such as "Ahmadinejacket" and "Shum Jum Yum Yum" (presumably she meant Kim Jong Il?) have become "less rational" because the Bush administration has allegedly not talked to these regimes.

Besides airing her opinion without getting key names correct, Whoopi should know that talking unconditionally to Adolf Hitler did not make him any less radical. This should come as no surprise to a woman, who, on more than one occasion, demonstrated her ignorance of basic history.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Whoopi’s comments were sparked by Sherri Shepherd’s concern over campaign literature accusing Obama of coddling terrorists. Shepherd took issue with the cover photo, that of the view of a parked plane in front of an airport window. Sherri, who never can bring herself to think of the shape of the earth, mistook it for a plane about to impact a skyscraper. And Elisabeth Hasselbeck is too dumb for this panel?

The transcript follows.

SHERRI SHEPHERD: You know, it’s so funny how you talk about perception because I saw an ad, like- for me I didn’t like it. This was- this was a brochure that was being sent to voters in Virginia and Missouri. And it’s a plane that’s crashing into a building. It says "terrorists don’t care who they hurt." And then on the back it’s got a picture of Barack and it says at the bottom, you know, "not who you think he is." Now, for me some people though, you know, it, it, you their perception.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Why is it terrible?

SHEPHERD: For me, I thought-

JOY BEHAR: Because it’s innuendo.

SHEPHERD: I thought-

HASSELBECK: It says "Barack Obama thinks terrorists need a good talking to."

SHEPHERD: Well, but when I look at that-

HASSELBECK: Well, read it.

SHEPHERD: I know, but when I looked at it, I thought, you know, you’re taking the pain of America and the heartache of America and you’re attaching it to terrorism and you’re invoking this fear and Barack-

BEHAR: And you’re attaching it to a very, very, very patriotic American man. That’s why it’s bad.

[applause]

HASSELBECK: Well, if you read the ad, if you read the ad-

BEHAR: Who’s going to read it after those images hit you in the face?

HASSELBECK: He said, the premise of this ad was that he said he would talk to terrorists-

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Yes.

HASSELBECK: -unconditionally.

GOLDBERG: Yes.

HASSELBECK: And he did say that. And I think that, that is something that troubles many Americans.

GOLDBERG: Let me point this out. Can anyone tell me when it became a bad idea to go and sit in front of the people who we are fighting and say "listen, you can’t talk this- you can’t do this to us" because we spent eight years not doing that and it got- yes, because now even you have to admit that, that President Bush refused to talk to Ahmadinejacket [sic] Shum Jum Yum Yum [laughter] and all of these guys. [applause] And I, and I- okay.

HASSELBECK: But we’ve also had the U.N. who have, who have unanimously said we should not unconditionally talk to this person because, because if we break that code and we go and sit and talk with Ahmadinejad, unconditionally, without him meeting any of those regulations-

GOLDBERG: The U.N. has never said not to go talk.

HASSELBECK: There is, there is talk amongst our allies that we should not do that. If one person breaks that, what’s the incentive then for those terrorists to meet any-

BEHAR: You know what? If you’re going to say that the U.N. is so great, then the U.N. said "we don’t find any WMD in Iraq." And they did not listen to the U.N.

HASSELBECK: Well, neither did Saddam Hussein who he violated the 17 U.N. regulations.

BEHAR: That’s beside the point.

GOLDBERG: The point I’m making is that we have not-

HASSELBECK: It’s a dangerous thing to assume.

GOLDBERG: We have not engaged in one of the greatest things that this country does. And that is to go sit with people, look them in the eyes, say "you want it to be a round table? Sure. You want it to be a long table? Sure. The bottom line is you don’t want to fool with us."

HASSELBECK: Have you seen Ahmadinejad? You think he’s going to say "you know what? Wow, I see your point."

GOLDBERG: Elisabeth, you know what? Here’s what I think. I think that when, when- ugh dammit!- when President Clinton went over to Shum Jum Yum Yum and said [laughter] "listen, you want to build all of these things and sell them to our enemies? That’s fine. You will not get another penny from us. You will not get a dime from us. You want to mess with your neighbors? We will take you out." Now if you-

HASSELBECK: These are not rational people that we’re talking about in terms of-

GOLDBERG: Listen! But you know what? They have become less rational because we have not done anything to change-

HASSELBECK: No.

GOLDBERG: Yes!

HASSELBECK: They have, they have not become more irrational because of us.

GOLDBERG: I’m sorry, you can’t- sitting. Yes, I believe-

HASSELBECK: They are radical because of themselves.

GOLDBERG: We have become- allowed them-

HASSELBECK: We do not make them radical. Let’s not take any blame for their ridiculous murders.

[applause]

GOLDBERG: I believe, I believe that yes, we have allowed them to become more radical.

HASSELBECK: Hell no.

GOLDBERG: Well, okay, then why are we even discussing it? If it’s not a discussion, then you have your opinion, I have mine. My belief is had we sat down and talked to some of these clowns the crap would not have gone as far as it’s gone and we would not have as far back as we come.

[applause]

RACISM toward ASIANS

Ah yes, more of the famous RACISM toward ASIANS we have come to enjoy from the BLACK AFRICANS who were born here and still living in this country they hate so much.

The answer to terrorism IS war. Next Please!

Racisim?

I don't see anything racist about Whoopi's joke. Granted, the point she was making was dumb, but to accuse her and other black americans of hating their contry is over the line.

Not all blacks are like Jeremiah Wright.

If you cannot see the

If you cannot see the parallel, then let me assist you.  Imagine that a white or asian commentator referenced a generic Black person as Rastus, or Rufus, or Laquita....

You would thinkthe world came to an end with the recriminations that would be heaped upon that person.  It appears that only members of an approved class of minorities are allowed to misbehave in this manner,.

Okay let's get one thing straight....

I don't appreciate being talked down to. Period.

If you think that Whoopi's joke was racist, fine; but don't tell me that I don't understand the double standards that blacks have about racisim. I'm not a liberal.

What I was trying to emphasize in my earlier post was the fact that I didn't like the fact that just because Whoopi made a dumb joke she was automatically labelled as being  amti-American.

As someone who seems reasonably intelligent you should know that that is wrong.

I simply wanted to explain to whoever was writing that a lot of blacks, including myself who were born in America do mot like being refered to as "Black Africans"

I really don't see the need for a prolonged arguement on this subject, since apparently we are both saying the same thing about black double standards.

Perhaps you should probably try to make your point to the liberals.

»→ Good point

We regularly refer to the President of Iran as Iminadinnerjacket.  Nothing racist about it. Just a token of our disdain for the man.

Whoopi's use of Shum Jum is not the same as Rosie doing her "Ching-Chong" rant.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Cool...I call him..

IM-A-DINNER-SALAD.

Just to make fun of the Little Punk.

Ster.

Ster,

I am partial to Akhmedinadinnerjacket, myself.

Of course, had our CIC been on the ball when that b*st*rd flew over here to address the Useless Nations, he would now be Wormfoodinadinnerjacket.

Good thing for him I'n not POTUS.  :-)

In order for wealth to be spread, it first must be seized.

Dave,

He reminds me of the little Bus Boy I made fun of when I was a Bartender.

At any time I could Throw him into the automated Dish Washer!!!

Ster.

Actually, the post has damn

Actually, the post has damn little to do with Whoppi as a racist.  Nor did I label her as anti-american.

THE POINT is that the PRESS would have gone hunting her head if she was of a non-approved class of minority and had made a similar comment about an approved of minority.

Since this website discusses the subject of the press and its actions, it is totally appropos.

I wasn't refering to you.

This is the post that I was talking about both times.

RACISM toward ASIANS

Ah yes, more of the famous RACISM toward ASIAN

S we have come to enjoy
from the BLACK AFRICANS who were born here and still living in this
country they hate so much.

If you go back and re-read my reply to you, you will know that I agree with the media double standards that you have mentioned twice now.

Can we move on now? There's really no issue here.

I think there is a an issue.

I think there is a an issue. The issue being members of politically correct and protected classes are immune from notice by the press.

So your point is...

that basically we're saying the same thing.

Who knew?

that, between all of those horrible movies, that Whoopi became an expert on everything.

Bigtime,

I think you just insulted gnats.  Sorry, I could not resist.

You would fit Whoopi's

You would fit Whoopi's intelligence inside a gnat's navel and have room left over for the concentrated and cubed brain power of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck too.

Justin.....I dont know how you can.....

maintain your sanity watching these numbskulls daily.  Especially Joyless Blowhole.....who needs to pull her head out of that dark place it currently is in.....she is a mean , ugly know it all, who cannot back up any of her ridiculous statements. The you got Sheri, who cant grasp a book, pamphlet, or any written statements, unless there are pictures included.  Whoopi, well she's Whoopi.......making lame, weak attempts at being funny to hide her ignorance.  My hats off to you Justin, your a better man, and a more patient one, than I.  :-)

Prime example of yet another liberal who assumes that progress can be made with tyrants if "you only say the right combination of words."

How is she not working at Foggy Bottom?

Words are Dangerous

Whoppi

Do you think that people’s differences can be “talked away”? If they could women would never  get divorced. Lawsuits would never be filed. Lawyers would be out of work.  There are real differences between people and nations. Words will often not be enough to bridge that gap. In fact the wrong words at the wrong time can do great harm.

ABC News reports that Joe Biden believes the US will   be tested under Barack. He is likely correct, and if Obama fails that test the consequences  the United States may be brutal.

Goldberg is making a

Goldberg is making a juvenile mistake.  The mistake is that words themselves cause nations to move their interests in persuit of others interests.

An example would be that a glib statesman talking to his nations enemy could using the force of words alone, convince that enemy to change their policieswhich further the enemy nations interests which are in direct opposition to the glib statesmans nations interests.  There has NEVER been a successful example of this.

The dirty little secret of the State Department is that they have tried for fifty years to win over enemies based solely on negotiation and it has NEVER worked.

What has worked is threats, and LOTS OF THEM.  Wanna make someone pull out of contry they have wontonly invaded?  Having the Secretary of State conduct shuttle diplomacy is an expensive waste that every Secretary of State hungers to attempt at least once in their career.

What does work?  Having a Defense representative walk in and say "The bombers are airborne, wanna leave now?"

This is one of the things that angered Colin Powell against genuine conservatives.  He tried to sweet talk some thugs while a diplomatic rep in the 90's, and got nowhere.  In the midst of his meeting a SECDEF Rep walked in and effectively said the same thing I listed above and the enemy was thus motivated to quit the field.

Well said BD

You sound like Pres. Teddy Roosevelt. I hope you take that as a compliment.

I got one name for Whoopi, that says it all.......

Neville Chamberlain..........remember "Peace in our time"  Whoopi???  Thats what you get when you meet without pre-conditions.

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

History didn't begin with Bush

Overlooked (or misunderstood) is that the United States had been talking with these countries, many of them for decades. The talks ended in impasse. That's when we basically told them, get back to us when you have something to talk about.

The Obama nonsense is that Clinton was chatting happily with all these guys, making lots of progress, but W kicked everyone out of the party. Not so. This is a stage of the diplomatic relationship in which we refuse to offer anything more, and these countries refuse to budge themselves. The whole idea of preconditions is State Department jargon for "ya got anything new?"

If they don't have anything new, it's pointless to talk for the sake of talking. It only encourages them to think that you're desperate for progress, and if they stall long enough, you'll cave in and give them what they want.

<sarcasm on> Whoopi's

<sarcasm on> Whoopi's right. If only the Union states could have just been more rational to the Confederates and explained how slavery was evil just a bit more eloquentely that whole Civil War could have been avoided. <sarcasm off>

Hate to tell you Whoopi, but deep and fundamental differences cannot be negoitated or talked away. It is idiocy to believe otherwise.

Try talking some sense into

Try talking some sense into Whoopie cushion and you get gibberish, ebonics.  Wanna bring race into this, lame street media?  Be more than glad too!

The more Whoppi talked, the

The more Whoppi talked, the more I realized that liberals really do not understand people like "Ahmadinejacket" and "Shum Jum Yum Yum".  They are not looking to talk, or come to some agreement.  They hate the United States and its allies and want them to disappear.  Any "negotations" or "talks" would just be a way for them to buy more time to become stronger and looks for ways to bring us down.

Does it mean that war is necessary?  Of course not.  Does it mean that you need to have preconditions before talking with them and the threat of war if they refuse to cooperate with you?  Yes.

Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying. - Ronald Reagan

Whoopi

the level of logic from her is just ZERO.  her example of Clinton is exactly what didn't happen, he didn't use any force against No KO or Iran when he had a chance.  If Clinton had threatened force this stupid Whoopi and her ilk would have protested that Clinton was leading us into an unnecessary war.

Also behar comment:  that's beside the point concerning Saddam actions and UN rulings.  Another brainless moron on TV.

Whoopi is the eptomie of ignorance with a platform.  A pc term like libtard barely covers her level of understanding of the people or the real world.  Hasselbeck tries but she is there kind of like Colmes is with Hannity.

No Obama bin Biden ever

 I wonder how Goldberg

I wonder how Goldberg would feel if some Korean called a black person with one of those African names "Orangejello Jackson" or something equally offensive.

Hasselbeck

is a good hearted and means well but has been put in a untenable position of being out gunned numerically.  She is intelligent and focused but is always fighting from a postion of defense.  Her antagonists just attack with bluff, bluster and noise until she is gives up from frustration.

Hasselbeck is NO dumb blonde and has as much or more so called school education as any of the others.  Its obvious Behar never learned anything as her ideology and self hate has blinded her to anything in the realm of reality she learned well in her socialism classes.

Maybe I am alone, but I don't get it. Day after day, show after show, 4 know nothing washed up or have never been talking heads get so much attention. My 70 year old mother is facinated by it and now so hates these people that she waits for O'Rielly to blast into them. There job is to push buttons. 70 year grandmothers who want distractions buttons, not serious people. Who the hell cares anymore?

I would agree with you

except I think that I love to hate this show. It's actually intruiging to me to read about how ridiculous and spacey these women can be. I don't watch the show, if I did i might shoot myself, but it's kinda fun to read it on NB. I would like to know what they hell they are clapping at though...do other people actually applaud this stuff or is it like a laughtrack or something?

That's right, you can be cured. Focusing on those things that you cannot control believing that you can, is dillusional. Talking about these idiots on this DAILY BLAB FEST EGO STROKE is the polital conversation equivilent of comparing a person who has few to many scotch's once in a while with a Crack head.

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step. Now, it is apparent that you are dire need of a sponsor. You can do it. Look there are lot of people on this Blog that were once like you. They had the same VDS ( View derangement Syndrom) and look at them now. Happy , healthly, no longer obsessed with washed up, never was hacks who by the grace of Barbara WAWA ended up on TV. It will be tough, yes, but it is possible to relegate this obsession with nothing into the dust of your personal polical discourse history. When you see the words Woopie, Joy, Haselbeck, you will immediately move on to meaning activitives, like flossing. Enjoy the freedom of being well.

Oh my, Flossing!

well...everything is right in the world once again...I still like reding about these idiots. It makes me laugh. God bless you Ms. Hasselbeck.

Help me understand the incomprehensible :)

Obama was razzed, quite rightly, when he said he'd talk to some of these folks "without conditions".

We will take you out." Now if you-  (emphasis mine)
