MSNBC host and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough appeared on the October 8 edition of "The Colbert Report" to declare John McCain the loser and use Democratic talking points to blame his own party (or former party?) on the current economic situation. An astonished Stephen Colbert exclaimed "look at how MSNBC has changed you!" In response the employee of the Keith Olbermann and Chris "thrill up my leg" Matthews network just replied "I know. I know"
In fairness, Scarborough asserted that if Iraq and the War on Terror were the top concern, McCain would be ahead in the polls. Then taking a shot at liberal elitism he added "I know it’s hard for Manhattan and Georgetown to figure out."
The transcript follows.
STEPHEN COLBERT: How does McCain win this one Joe? How does McCain bring it out of the pooper?
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well, you know, the prob-
COLBERT: You were a Republican Congressman. Help the man. Give him advice right now. What does McCain have to do?
SCARBOROUGH: It is Stephen, and I am serious about this, it’s too late. And the reasons why-
COLBERT: Oh come on!
SCARBOROUGH: The reasons-
[applause]
COLBERT: Never say die! Never say die!
SCARBOROUGH: And I talked about this before. The Republican party inherited a $150 billion surplus, we’ve got a $500 billion debt [sic] this year, eight years later. Inherited a $5 trillion debt which was being paid down in 2000. Now it’s a $10 trillion debt. Social Security and Medicare are closer to bankruptcy than it was eight years ago. Medicaid also going bankrupt. We got a trillion dollar bailout right now because of what’s been going on. We have- the markets keep crashing, but-
COLBERT: Joe, Joe, Joe.
SCARBOROUGH: When there’s peace and prosperity Stephen you can talk about certain issues. But you can’t, at this point, you have to talk about the economy and as long as this economy-
COLBERT: Look at how MSNBC has changed you!
[laughter]
SCARBOROUGH: I know. I know.
COLBERT: I mean I watched you for six years of the Bush administration.
SCARBOROUGH: I know. I know.
COLBERT: And you went along with whatever that cat did!
[laughter]
SCARBOROUGH: I know. I know.
COLBERT: And now you’re down on the Republicans? I mean, they certainly haven’t changed. You must have.
SCARBOROUGH: Well, I have changed.
COLBERT: You have changed.
SCARBOROUGH: Well, you know, actually the funny thing is it really does- not really funny- ironic thing is everybody talked about how the Iraq War hurt the Republican party. I can tell you that it actually- a lot of this goes back to Hurricane Katrina. That’s when the light switch- because the thing that Republicans-
COLBERT: So you don’t think the Iraq War hurt the Republican party.
SCARBOROUGH: No, it actually- it hurt them in 2006, but I will tell you this, and you can look at every poll. I don’t know what those laughs were about. [laughter] But, if- as long as this election is being run McCain’s territory, the Iraq War, the War on Terror, McCain was ahead 15-20 percentage points over Obama. And again, I know that there’s- I know it’s hard for Manhattan and Georgetown to figure out.

Easy there, Mgarnett25
October 9, 2008 - 14:19 ET by KarmaEven with documented proof, this would hardly come as a surprise to many of us. This would be just one more stone that the MSM would block from hitting his glass house. Or something like that.
I FOUND THE VIDEOS SHOWING THIS AND SENT THEM TO MEDIA NOTHING

Disgusting...
October 9, 2008 - 14:24 ET by killbill2What these guys do, become media whores. At some point they realize they're more famous and get paid better by being on TV. Just shows you they have no moral compass, never had any real calling to serve America... look at Huckabee, Talk about self indulgent. He's parlayed his poltical career into a weekly national audience for maybe the worst garage band ever... Throw them all out!!! Out of office first, then off of our flat screens!
Scarborough should just change his name to Scarobama
October 9, 2008 - 14:28 ET by Lame CherryThere are numerous October Surprises all through this. Obama is a crook times 10.
Money laundering into his campaign.
That money then dry cleaned.
ACORN in voter fraud.
The illegal detainment of Lawrence Sinclair by Biden's Delaware and now Jerome Corsi in Kenya to protect Obama.
The numerous counts of Chicago money laundering which I do hear that Patrick Fitzgerald is shaking the tree on.
The hiring of proxies at Microsoft, out of the Israeli state, Yahoo, Google etc... who are spying on American citizens.
The destruction of John Edwards in a quid pro quo by the Obama campaign with the National Enquirer to feast on Edwards if they leave Obama alone on sexual perversion and drug use.
Obama's forging of birth certificates and dangling Phil Berg in his federal court case.
My favorite. The criminal conspiracy of Obama, his financier benefactors including Warren Buffett with Nancy Pelosi tanking the stock market in economic terrorism to get him elected.
Oh and as I posted here weeks ago, Patrick Fitzgerald is using the term RICO Act in going after Obama. Nice to see Scooter's nemisis is defining the laws Obama broke in the correct manner.
I could go on with Obama crimes as he has about 55 counts against him now in 17 life sentences and millions in fines.
Enforce the law Department of Justice.
One more thing to my Rockefeller family friends and the Rothschilds. You keep allowing this Chicago syndicate to maneuver you and all of your real secrets about credit scams with diamonds and guns is coming off in the next plank.
Put Barry into exile in Germany, let Biden have a hair transplant vacation to Paris, offer up Buffett and Soros in fines or this entire mess is going to come literally on you media or not control.
You let Auchi out of the bag in buying Obama his mansion and you know how that all comes back to BCCI, Marc Rich, Saddam, Clinton bribes etc.... You do not want this Barry Obama picking at these scabs in his criminal money laundering as the mob you so sheer are going to demand you in prison.
Your mistake just like the NAU was bad. Admit it, toss Obama to the liberal leg tingling press and move on.

Barry Obama
October 9, 2008 - 14:48 ET by iveseenitallBarry Obama is more radical left than any candidate I've ever seen. IMHO, John McCain had the perfect opportunity to jump on this when he was asked "What don't you know?" at the debate. He should bring up that question again and respond that "What I and the American people don't know is Who is Barack Obama?" For example, Obama's association with the New Party, a socialist group, is just coming out. Barry Obama will be the most dangerous president the country has ever had. And the country is still in the dark (no pun intended) about who he is.
BTW, some in the MSM are just now starting to come out and say how they are being poorly treated by Barry on the campaign trail. It he's elected, the joke will be on them. I predict that they will be shut out of access to our gov't. It will be the ultimate coup for Barry and his Socialist/Communist/ Fascist pals. Unfortunately for the media stooges, and for America, it will be too late.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
Joe Scarborough left the Republican Party...

This guy used to be my congressman...Scarborough was the representative from the area of NW Florida where my hometown is and where my folks still live. It's hard to believe how much he has changed, apparently as a result of the toxic influence of the piranhas that he swims with at MSNBC.

I too have been saddened by the change over the years, I started noticing it in congress before he left....maybe he was always just a put on in some ways if you know what I mean, I'm not putting it in the right words, hope you get my meaning though.

October 9, 2008 - 15:14 ET by PrairieSkyHe came into congress as this fresh-faced, idealistic, conservative young man, but you're right, he did seem to change somewhat even before he left. It does make one wonder who Joe Scarborough is (or was), and what he's all about.

Oh, and far left radical Obama, along with an overwhelmingly liberal democratic Congress is going to make this all better? It's like calling in arsonists to put out a house fire.

How will another Republican
October 9, 2008 - 18:12 ET by balboaHow will another Republican make it better?
bal, let me put it this way-
October 9, 2008 - 18:35 ET by R D HelmIf Barry-O manages to get himself elected POTUS with enough of a congressional advantage to blunt any attempts to stop him on the part of the republicans, and if he implements his hideous tax plan, not to mention the rest of his nanny-state ideas, or even part of them, the country we have known for 232 years as United States of America, is finished.
No sh*t.
-Dave
Seriously...
October 10, 2008 - 12:36 ET by Mr. BishopThis constant stance you take balboa is BS. Every time you comment on a single thread, you never once take a stance that you would have to defend. Could it be because you have an indefensible stance on the issues? Perhaps. However, instead of the lame question you just asked, "How will another Republican make it better?", why don't you try explaining how Obama will make it better?
You see, I listened to Obama on Tuesday's debate. I listened to his plans. I listened to the nonsense he spewed about taxes and spending. Here is what I saw:
1. Obama doens't have a damned clue who pays taxes in this country. How does he plan on giving "95%" of Americans a tax cut, when only 70% of Americans pay taxes in the first place? Explain this how you will, it is mathematically impossible to give 95% of Americans a tax cut, if 30% don't even pay taxes to begin with.
2. Obama plans on spending untold billions on a national healthcare system. I say untold billions because it will literally grow exponentially, especially under a Democrat controlled Congress. In addition, Obama plans on sending another, untold billions, to other countries in his efforts to, basically, bribe them into liking us more. His words had to do with sending them billions in economic aid and what not, in response to how to improve America's image around the world. In short, he plans on bribing them to like us. Obama wants to give billions to other countries and the UN to combat "global poverty". Basically, Obama plans on spending close to a trillion dollars on just things he has SAID he wants to spend money on. And yet he plans on giving a tax break to "95%" of Americans? This is impossible. Obama would have to introduce a tax rate of about 90% on everyone in the country to pay for the programs he has planned.
Try, just once, to explain how Obama will fix the problem, instead of trying to say the same old BS, "Well, gee wizz -- don't question Obama, explain how a Republican would fix it..." Wrong answer -- you explain how it is that Obama will fix it, especially when his OWN WORDS from the debate, will make the problems worse!

October 10, 2008 - 15:36 ET by balboaCN said that Obama would have a horrible effect on the economy. So that naturally poses the question, what is it McCain is going to do that's going to make this situation any better?
