Bill Maher: America 'Extremely Religious Because We're Young and Dumb'

America is "dumb" because it remains the most religious country in the western world. This according to Bill Maher, who made such a statement on the September 30 edition of "The View." Appearing to promote his new documentary "Religulous," Maher continued his soapbox rants against organized religion. Elisabeth Hasselbeck set up Maher noting his comparison of President Bush to Osama Bin Laden, and noted that many presidents such as John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, spoke publicly of a higher power. Maher likewise replied "of course, it’s, it’s a religious country, unlike every other civilized western democracy in the world, this country is still extremely religious because we’re young and dumb."

After denying judgment in his film, Bill Maher chastised those of faith for lacking "critical thinking." Hasselbeck followed up wondering if he believes those of faith are lacking intelligence. Maher denied he subscribes to such a sentiment, but added intelligent people of faith have a "neurological disorder" who "walled off part of [their] mind."

At the end of the segment Sherri Shepherd wondered if the comedian " ever just talked to God and asked God what does He think." Maher answered Sherri with the question "did he answer you?" When Shepherd answered in the affirmative, Bill Maher suggested she suffers from a mental disorder.

Before quickly moving to religion, Maher weighed in on the presidential campaign. On the subject of Sarah Palin, the comedian made an unintentionally funny line: "If Joe Biden made some of the comments she made to Katie Couric, we would think he had brain damage." Actually, the opposite holds true as, as NewsBusters has documented, the networks have been much quicker to jump on Sarah Palin’s gaffes than they have Joe Biden’s. Sherri Shepherd was quick to note Biden’s comment that FDR appeared on television when the stock market crashed.

Maher also, in his rant against Sarah Palin, labeled the Alaska governor a "bimbo," but very quickly added a bimbo can be a man or a woman. In an attempt to recover more, Maher also called Dan Quayle a "bimbo."

MAHER: Let me tell you, this Repu- this Republican party is so cynical, this is the third time in 20 years, Bush, Quayle, and now Palin, they have nominated a complete bimbo, which is a man or a woman.

MAHER: They have bimbos, like Dan Quayle I remember in the debate, that asked him something like, I forget what the issue was, but it was like "what would you do if it was nuclear" or something catastrophic. And he of course, started to crap himself and had that look in his eye. And he went "well, first I would say a prayer." Yeah, that’s right, talk to your imaginary friend while the world is full of death, because that would really effectively do something.

HASSELBECK: You said before that George Bush is a religious fanatic like Osama Bin Laden. Equating the two I think is strange. But why do you feel this way just because he believes in God or because he, he does pray?

MAHER: Well, it affects his foreign policy. He says that.

HASSELBECK: But what about John F. Kennedy do you feel the same way about him because he’s said, you know I have right here, asking his blessing and his help here on Earth, God’s work must truly be our own, FDR used similar comments, Lincoln-

MAHER: Of course, it’s, it’s a religious country, unlike every other civilized western democracy in the world, this country is still extremely religious because we’re young and dumb.

MAHER: And this movie- one reason why it got such good reviews- and even religious people who watched it liked this movie is, we don’t judge. We don’t point fingers. We’re not making anybody feel bad. I’m just asking questions that nobody asks because this is the last taboo subject.

SHEPHERD: How do you feel about faith, because there are a lot of men, great men, who during times of trouble relied on their faith, Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Mandela when he was in prison? How do you feel about faith, not organized religion?

MAHER: Well faith, faith, if you mean believing in something with no reason to, I’m not a big fan of that. Faith means lack of critical thinking. Every politician in this country says "faith guides me." And I go, why is that a good thing in your job?

MAHER: I don’t because this is what we were saying, neurological disorder, it’s just because there are intelligent people who are religious. They just walled off a part of your mind.

Judeo-Christian Philosophy

Our nation, the greatest that has ever existed in the history of the world, was the brainchild of what basically amounts to a group of CHRISTIAN THINKERS.  What terrific system of societal organization has been brought to us via atheist thinking?  I'll leave the response to that question to the student.

The real danger of people like Maher is that in his world his mind is literally god.  God is the giver of rights, not government.  If you believe there is no god, or that your mind is god, or government is god, then rights are not transcendent and can be defined and shifting.  This is a dangerous philosophy.

They are our "elite," our "best and brightest," and if we fools would only realize that, we'd make them our leaders for life, and all these problems from the budget to hunger to global warming to ending war for all time would be quickly and finally dealt with.

Listening to Maher on Religion

Is like listening to a homeless man tell you how to get your life in order.

Bill has denied that he has a father, so he denigrates anyone who has come to a different realization.

Did it ever occur to him (and any atheist) that we are here specifically to make a choice and that total freedom to make that choice means that there must be both good and evil in the world. The "devil" or "satan" is not the inventor of evil nor it's perpetrator, he is simply trying to make as many people as possible make the wrong choice, as he did with Chavah (Eve). We are perfectly capable of evil all by our selves. Pride is usually where it starts.

What bothers me about this stuff is that liberals are wealth ticks. They make their regions, states, and cities unliveable because of high taxes and high costs of living, and people leave them. Liberals follow the wealth and attach themselves again. They'll bleed another area dry and cause it to go into decline.

I live near a small city of about 50,000 people. It's a classic Southern college town. All the enlightened liberal faculty pushed the city council to raise taxes to advance all of their haughty urbanist agenda. People fled the city into the surrounding county to escape increasing occupational and property taxes.

Guess what. They're coming after our wealth now. They're pressuring the county to shake us down to fund their pet projects. They use the local media to pressure county leaders into making these bad decisions. Thankfully, it looks like, for now, the county leaders will lose their seats, but that tick keeps crawling out to us.

Inexplicably, we have Californians moving here. Several have infested my area. They flee expanding government and over taxation for other areas, but they bring so many of their leftist political principals with them. They look down their noses at people like me who fight for low taxes, unobtrusive government, and to be left the hell alone.

A couple of professors purchased property down the road from mine. Before they ever took down the FOR SALE sign they put up an Obama sign. Sheesh! Do these people eat and drink Obama? They are the first flies of the swarm, and they'll gnaw at our wealth until they run us off or make us insolvent.

It's a microcosm of Cloward-Piven principal, of which, I believe, Barack Obama is a disciple.

In the northeast, they'll run up the cost of energy, and more people will leave. Eventually more liberals will follow and push their agenda in another area.

Good observation. You're absolutely right, this is what's happening in rural areas all over the country. "Urban sprawl," it's called near cities, maybe "getting away from the rat race" further out. But you're right, they flee the results of their social and economic experimentation, yet bring those same ruinous ideas with them, to infect another productive area. I thought "smart" people were capable of "learning." Of course, I'm not that smart, because I believe in God.

They need to be quarrantined. And we need to be vaccinated.

This is very true, our Parish has been under assault by these elitist. They bring their drugs and crime and try to change the way we have been living and getting along. Some of these folks (very few) come up here to enjoy our way of life, but then their are those that come up here and try to change our schools, complain about every thing and try to raise our taxes to support their idea of a "quality" of life. I have spent more time in Counsel meetings in the last 5 yrs then in my whole life. Our school system is in it's 11th law suit with the ALCU. We used to love it out here, now it's just a hassel. If you dont fight them though, they will just take it.

I can't help but think that the de-nice-ification of this state, and the Phoenix Valley in particular, is the result of idiot Californians moving here to get out of the humidity. They move in, buy huge-ass houses in our two richest districts (Paradise Valley and the Biltmore Hotel area), and get to work making this place a little more like what they left.

In another twenty years, this state is going to turn blue with a vengeance -- California minus the mudslides. And the worst part is that I don't want to leave my hometown or my state (I haven't been outside Phoenix for something like five years now, and I can't afford a vacation anyway), but these morons are going to make the place completely unlivable by the time I've got kids. And there's no place you can go to get away from them -- even with legal abortion, the libs and lefties on the Coast keep breeding like rabbits.

California falling into the sea would not be a disaster. It would be the equivalent of a national tumorectomy.

I tried to verify the accuracy of this, but whether or not Ben Stein said it, it is still correct.  Sadly, salted nut-rolls like Maher will never get this.  They readily use "satan" and "evil" as terms, but can, with straight face and no feelings of hypocrisy say that God does not exist.  Well I'll tell you what.  The Devil certainly believes in God, and these liberal mind-numb robots believe in the devil.

What's the mathematical formula?  If A = B, and B = C, then A = C.  Liberals believe in Satan, Satan believes in God, but Liberals don't believe in God.  Yup.  That proves it.  Liberals have no reasoning ability whatsoever.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish.  And it
does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful
lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees..  I don't feel threatened.  I
don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are:  Christmas
trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to
me.  I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in
a ghetto.  In fact, I kind of like it.  It shows that we are all
brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't
bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key
intersection near my beach house in Malibu ..  If people want a crèche,
it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't
think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians.  I
think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed
around, period.  I have no idea where the concept came from that
America is an explicitly atheist country.  I can't find it in the
Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that
we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as
we understand Him?  I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too.  
But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities
came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this
is a little different:  This is not intended to be a joke;  it's not
funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane
Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?'
(regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and
insightful response.  She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by
this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out
of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our
lives.  And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed
out.  How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection
if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings,
etc.  I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was
murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want
prayer in our schools, and we said OK.  Then someone said you better
not read the Bible in school.  The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou
shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself.  And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when
they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and
we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock's son committed suicide). 
We said an expert should know what he's talking about.  And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why
they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to
kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure
it out.  I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why
the world's going to hell.  Funny how we believe what the newspapers
say, but question what the Bible says.  Funny how you can send 'jokes'
through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending
messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.  Funny
how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through
cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school
and workplace.

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Bill "numbnuts" Maher knows that nearly 95% of the humans on the planet believe in some form of God.  And that a good portion of them are unhinged and get really mad when their "GOD" (however they spell it) is mocked!

So the question is: Does Maher just mock the Christian God? or is he an equal opportunity offender and mock...oh say.. Allah, just as an example. I doubt he has the stones for that, but just in case he might want to beef up his personal body guard count after the movie comes out.

I had the sound down last night on Conan, but does anyone else notice that Maher is trying to impersonate sex hound Hugh Hefner in looks?

Now the scientific question is this:

I'm reading some analysis by Jewish historian Yair Davidy who studied with Jewish scholars various strange things in people transplanted from one nation to another actually developed different head shapes from round to long.
In noting this, can there be a scientific reason why Hugh Hefner who bases his entire life on perverted sex and Maher who couches everything in his life in perverted sex both look like those old lounge lizards preying on women and seeing the entire world as in secular anatomy parts.

Now Willum Maher will never make a movie about that phenom which is as plain as the Hefner impersonation he has grown into, but as I have noted that liberals all have psychological schisms which create them, there is a definite reasoning that people become a "look" when they base their inner being on specific criteria.

Unless Hefner fathered this bastard son, he and Maher are mirror image of a psychological type that is manifesting in appearance by their inner persona carried out into the physical actions of life.

If one has ever seen people with dimentia, they will literally change in photos as the mind looses muscle control to appear as somone else. That is often why deceased people do not look like they do in life due to muscle tension.
So that would equate certain muscles for lack of a better definition makes a pervert like Maher, look like his penis as that is what he focuses on.
In that analogy, Maher does not think with his penis, but actually in mirror looks like it as he thinks about it all the time.

This is why Elizabeth Hasselbeck looks like she does as her focus is on discipline of conduct and a Higher order. If you notice Ms. Goldberg and Ms. Behar both are vacant and struggling as they do not have a connection with God on His terms.

Maher though has to tear down all things which remind him of his fallacy of outlook.

Utter rubbish.  A religion like Christianity would not have survived 2000 years (not including all the centuries of Judaism leading up to it) if it were self-evidentally irrational.  Faith comes into play only because it cannot be proven in a rigorous sense.  But, then again, neither can atheism be proven.

If there is no God, then why does he care whether or not Palin, Bush, Obama, Lincoln, Kennedy, et al. are religious?  What does it matter?  Rational, critical thinking leads to only one conclusion: That it simply does not matter, that nothing matters.  It is all meaningless, including his puny, impotent movie:
