Obama Attacks Fox News, 'Fox and Friends' Responds

Barack Obama, who boasts about his alleged "post partisan" philosophy, can not seem to resist appeasing the left wing blogosphere by making cheap shots at Fox News. Obama, who enjoys overwhelmingly positive coverage from the mainstream press, blasted Fox News for daring to interview an author critical of him.

"I don’t find myself particularly scary or particularly risky. But, but, you know, I mean they’re good at it. So they got these ads with Paris and Britney. They’ve got some guy who just wrote a book. He’s just making stuff up. Just make stuff up. But it gets a lot of play on Fox News."

The co-hosts of "Fox and Friends" responded to this attack on the August 21 edition. Gretchen Carlson and Steve Doocy acknowledged that Jerome Corsi, author of "Obama Nation," did appear on "Fox and Friends," but to debate Democratic partisan Bob Beckel.

Steve Doocy also noted Fox News was not the only venue that gave Jerome Corsi air time. Both CNN and C-SPAN interviewed Corsi.

The entire transcript is below.

GRETCHEN CARLSON: Let’s turn back to politics because Barack Obama had some very interesting things to say about something that’s near and dear to our hearts, our employer, Fox News. He ripped us again about that number one "New York Times" best seller in non-fiction by Jerome Corsi, "Obama Nation." He ripped Fox News for putting that guy on our air even though he’s been on other people’s air as well.

STEVE DOOCY: Absolutely. The shot happened yesterday. We’ve got the sound bite of Mr. Obama. Let’s listen to that first.

SENATOR BARACK OBAMA (D-IL): I don’t find myself particularly scary or particularly risky. But, but, you know, I mean they’re good at it. So they got these ads with Paris and Britney. They’ve got some guy who just wrote a book. He’s just making stuff up. Just make stuff up. But it gets a lot of play on Fox News.

DOOCY: Okay, thanks Senator. Now here’s the thing about that shot. Jerome Corsi, who has the number one book in America right now, according to "The New York Times" for the third straight week, he has been on this show. He’s been on this show a couple of times and every time he’s been, the first two times he was on, he, he would make a point and there would be a debate.

CARLSON: Bob Beckel would be there.

DOOCY: Right, exactly with Bob Beckel.

BRIAN KILMEADE: Twice.

DOOCY: He was on last week talking about the death threats he was starting receiving ever since he wrote this book. Now, Mr. Corsi, if you would just listen to Barack Obama’s sound bite, you would think that he’s only been on Fox News. Not so fast. He’s been on C-SPAN, he’s been on CNN, he’s been on a bunch of TV outfits. So for him to take a shot at us, it seems like Barack Obama left off the rest of the list.

CARLSON: Well, even Howard Wolfson, who used to run the Clinton campaign, said when he joined us just an hour ago, that maybe it wasn’t such a smart idea for Barack Obama to do this because when you look at the audience of Fox News, it’s a lot of Democrats, and a lot of independents, and Republicans.

KILMEADE: And here’s the thing. There’s got to be some worry inside Barack Obama’s campaign. Even though momentum is about to go his way because he’s going to pick a VP and that’s going to get a lot of publicity. And then he’s going to this convention and he could probably, at the conservative side, get at least ten points. But I think overall, you have to be wondering if the message is going to resonate, or has he indeed been drowned out? And is it Senator McCain that’s taking this lead away, or his he losing it?

DOOCY: In our first hour of "Fox and Friends" for this Thursday, we were lucky enough to have Governor Mike Huckabee with us. He took a look at that sound bite and afterwards this was his reaction.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR MIKE HUCKABEE: He’s not some agent of change. He’s not into a new politic. Look, when he’s taking on Fox News, he’s taking the bait. He’s showing that he’s just a politician who is really thin skinned about the attacks that he’s receiving. He’s running for president. Of course there’s going to be some stuff that he doesn’t like. And instead of staying above it, and being the guy that’s changing the face of politics, he’s down in the street with his fist clenched. And people are beginning to see that.

Well, even Howard Wolfson...said...that maybe it wasn’t such a smart idea...because when you look at the audience of Fox News, it’s a lot of Democrats, and a lot of independents..."

Agreed, but probably, not too long ago, before Wolfson got the gig with Fox, he would have been right there with all the other Democrat parrots, bashing Fox as being "right wing flunkies".

McNotObama '08

Just my opinion

I've seen Wolfson a few times on Fox. He's been pretty good, I thought. He isn't trying to kid anyone that he's a conservative Republican, but he seems to be giving honest and fair answers. Was he different when he was in the trenches? Probably. Rove probably was, too. But I'm going by what I see, and up until now, Wolfson's been fair.

When everyone sees liberals and conservatives treated fairly on Fox, this Obama nonsense will show that Obama doesn't know unity when he sees it.

KC, I thought Wolfson,

KC,

I thought Wolfson, coming off the way he saw Hillary was turned on by the press and his own ostracization over going to Fox News, his partisanship would be somewhat tempered by his experiences. Last night on The Factor (with Laura Ingraham) he was as full of Obama partisan talking points as Obama's campaign manager - and still had that Clinton aide penchant for filibustering the on-air debate.

McNotObama '08

Didn't see it

I confess I didn't see it, but that's disappointing. Of course, I don't mind a liberal being a liberal, and fighting for his own side. I expect them to do that, just as I'd fight for the conservative side in the same circumstances. As long as they're fair and willing to call them honestly, I'll accept all the fighting you want.

Maybe it was just a bad day for Wolfson. Hell, I didn't have a great day myself today. I'm in favor of free passes today. LOL!

"He’s just making stuff up."

I wish they would point out that some of the Corsi book is quotes from Obama's books. Is Obama saying he lied in those books?

They better have a

They better have a defibrillator and paramedics standing by whenever Beckel appears on Fox News. His partisan anger is getting out of hand. So much so that, on H&C the night before last, Hannity told him, more or less, to calm down.

I caught a part of that, he

I caught a part of that, he was doing his best to sell BHO's latest position on abortion. He did seem highly irate, but I think his outrage was rehearsed.

You may not find yourself that way Barry...but evidently millions are finding you that way, including me, which I did from the beginning...have you looked at the polls lately?

On the point of this statement...doesn't he sound like a little boy who got caught with his hands in the cookie jar and blaming someone else...all the while mommy knows he is lying through his teeth.

Please keep up these immature statements and attacks, it's soooo Presidential.

By the way Barry...have some guts, be a man, go on C-SPAN and be interviewed and take phone calls like Corsi did from the leftist phone bank of hate he received, don't worry, you would be getting nothing but lovefest phone calls, but you still fear that...let alone going on Fox...

You are one gutless wonder...the more you open your mouth the more you prove it.

What a pathetic fool you are proving to be...for that I thank you.

I hope he continues

I hope he continues to mock FOX news. He'll get giggles from the KOS kiddies in their Mom's basements but grown ups will see this as Obama being a crybaby. I guess Olbermann will have a special comment on what a baby he is like he did with McCain for complaining about NBC floating the rumor he cheated at Saddleback.  http://newsbusters.org/blogs/d-s-hube/2008/08/17/nbcs-andrea-mitchell-floats-idea-mccain-cheated

Bill O'Reilly is at the tipping point now because he now realizes that Obama is not a man of his word or lied to Bill about appearing on his show. I don't think he will like it when O'Reilly tips.

Keep it up Obama.

Obama is really just a partisan wingnut

He just has a larger vocabulary than most of the other leftward twisted wingnuts and doesn't use vulgarity, so he sounds better and less shrill.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Obama vs. Corsi and Fox News

Obama is just following Howard Dean, John Edwards, and other Democrats in an attempt to discredit Fox News.  Yet they just LOVE MSNBC, with Olbermann and Matthews.

It's called "censorship", and if you guys who refuse to "hold your nose and vote for someone you don't like" (i.e., McCain), with both Congress and the White House, the Dems will re-institute the "fairness doctrine" and do a good job of getting Fox, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. off the air.

So think in the long term, and vote for McCain.  With him in the White House we at least won't have to worry about losing the radiowaves.

he’s down in the street

he’s down in the street with his fist clenched. And people are beginning to see that.

Sure ... I bet Obama with his fist clenched looks as scary as Tweetie Pie

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

You just can't get away

You just can't get away from this personality, appearance, and lettuce-preference based attacks. Can you?

A candidate's personal measurements aren't the first thing foreign bad guys like Putin consider when they invade Georgia.

Putin on a tank is much scarier than Bush on a mountain bike.

If you want to distill this election down to the results of a physical then let's go over the stats.

Obama can lift his arms above his shoulders. McCain can't.

Obama is over 6 feet tall. McCain is about 5'6''

We could go on and on playing this stupid game. The fact of the matter is that the U.S. military and it's enormous arsenal of strategic nuclear weapons is frightening to anyone who would cross us. The physique of the guy pushing the button is irrelevant. That person's temperament, however, is the most important thing imaginable.

We certainly don't need a "conflict first questions later" personality leading the world's strongest military.

We are looking not at the

We are looking not at the physicality but the actual character of the person and tweety bird is apt. I know you can’t fathom the idea of McCain being a better President than Obama but you might have to get used to calling McCain Mr. President and Obama and also ran.

You say we “don't need a "conflict first questions later" personality leading the world's strongest military” and I say we don’t need an appeaser who has to clarify a position 10 million times.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Flash

Pull the lever November 4th for your utterly empty, utterly inexperienced, and utterly propped-up-by-the-media candidate and don't let the NB door hit you from behind.

I mean, that's what you plan on doing in November, non?

You don't suppose McCain's

You don't suppose McCain's time as a POW has any reason to do with why he can't lift his arms above his shoulders--do you?

"Fighters are fun but bombers make policy"

OK, here's some substance

We certainly don't need a "conflict first questions later" personality leading the world's strongest military.  And you being a good Leftist, it no doubt fills you with overwhelming embarrassment and deep personal shame to know that we do in fact have the world's most powerful military.  We certainly don't need a wishy washy "we need to TALK and ENGAGE the global community" type as CinC.

Really.  The most Obama could say about Russia's invasion of Georgia was that it violated the Olympic spirit.  Well, to paraphrase Сталин of all people, "How many divisions has the IOC?"

I do not want a President that will seek permission slips from the EU anytime we need to protect and defend American interests.  I don't want one whose first priority is to be a "citizen of the world", one who wants the United States to be universally LOVED.  (Foreign policy is NOT the same as being in high school.)

The Olympics are now under way in Beijing.  May the people of Beijing gt thoroughly sick of hearing The Star Spangled Banner.  May the Beijing Olympic Committee run out of U.S. flags for themedal ceremonies!  USA!  USA!!  USA!!!

Carter II: The sequel. The nightmare (w/ malaise) returns. Grab your sweater and let the appeasement of socialists, dismantling of our DOD, and destruction of America's economy begin again.

Hold on, let me try

Hold on, let me try this....

We certainly don't need a "conflict never, appeasement better" personality gutting the world's strongest military.

Ah, that sounds better.

I've never met Obama...

... so this is just wild speculation on my part - but I somehow doubt he'd have had the sheer will, the toughness of character, the testicular fortitude to last 5-1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton.

I mean, the guy starts to cry when people make fun of his ears, for Pete's sake!

Have you all noticed that

Have you all noticed that the "black man" slang is coming out of him?  I noticed when they were showing his little tantrum yesterday about being scary & risky.  He's done it a number of times, ususally when he is trashing McCain.  He's "gettin down" is guess.

He makes me sick.

Very perceptive. I knew I was cringing for a reason and you nailed it.

EVERYONE !!

I am working again today at 30 Rock (for Bravo TV) home of the esteemed NBC Empire. :p And to prove it, we just had a feed on our TV of SpitBoy rehearsing for his Softball-for-Obama show. It was hilarious... between rehearsal takes, the look on his face was total despair, unless he just has some sort of OCD-type tick that makes him grimase a lot. But he's definitely not doing too well these days, and it was fun to watch.

Anyway, the theme for his upcoming show is "Where's Obama's Teeth"... haha.... and then a piece about McCain and criticism. or something (sorry, the feed was taken down...)

Anyway, the usual playbook of setting a tone of Obama = victim, McCain = agressor. Should be more Chrissy fun.

The One

Barry Ho is starting to shout now, no more measured (stilted) speech patterns.

I figure by election day he'll be hootin' and hollerin' a la Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and that white guy Howard Dean.

So clean and articulate, eh?

BHO

Thin skinned Barry is afraid of Fox News? Boo Hoo! What a crybaby!! Is it because they don't get all "TINGLY" when he LIES? The USA had better wise up, because who wants an empty suit living in OUR HOUSE. McCain, McCain, McCain, McCain...

So can Kerry and BHO explain

how that bastion of conservative academia UCLA has, on more than one occasion, stated that Fox News is centrist? They said the same thing of CNN and I find that a crock but hey they did find the rest of the MSM as liberal as this site proves daily.
