Whoopi Dismisses Elisabeth's Views as 'Very White'

Photo of Justin McCarthy.

Voting for someone based on qualifications or ideology rather than race is very "white" according to "View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg. Also, according to Joy Behar, only white males like tax cuts.

Discussing Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s concern that women are voting for Hillary Clinton because she’s a woman and black voting for Barack Obama because he’s black, Whoopi Goldberg dismissed Hasselbeck’s concerns and proclaimed "that’s a very white way to look at it." Of course Whoopi said it "with a huge amount of love." Hasselbeck sarcastically responded "let me take off my white goggles." Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg agreed Hasselbeck can not suggesting the white people will never understand.

Earlier in the discussion, Behar added that voting for someone with the same gender or race may be in a person’s interest. She hypothesized that a woman over 50 who may face age discrimination may vote for Hillary as a way to combat that. She also suggested that white men vote Republican because "the white male loves his tax cuts." In Behar’s world, only white men like tax cuts.

The entire transcript is below.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: We were talking about the other day about how women seem to be voting for Hillary because she’s a woman and how Barack seems to be getting the black vote because he’s black. And I know this aggravates the hell out of Elisabeth.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Well, I just, you know, it just more than ag- it really concerns me I guess. Because I just believe that it would be ignorance say to vote for, to not vote for someone because they are a woman, or to not vote for someone because they’re black, right? I think that’s an ignorant thing to do. So I almost find it equally as ignorant to only vote for someone because they’re black or only vote for them because they’re a woman. And I hope that people, and, you know, that we as voters won’t be tempted to kind of do that. I think that we should be looking at the person who would be the president and what qualifies them and not vote for someone based on race or sex or gender or age. I just, I can’t deal with that.

JOY BEHAR: You’re talking about apples and apples in a certain way. Because Obama and Hillary both have the same platforms. Therefore if you are a black person, why not vote for the black person if they are the exact same platform?

HASSELBECK: If they are exactly the same. Do you believe they are?

BEHAR: Pretty much.

SHERRI SHEPHERD: Elisabeth, there have been-

BEHAR: Tweaking here or there maybe on healthcare.

SHEPHERD: There have been other black candidates who have run. If that was the case, that black people voted for black people just because they were black, then we would have seen them-

HASSELBECK: Elected?

SHEPHERD: -went further than Obama. Obama is black and he is qualified.

HASSELBECK: Absolutely.

SHEPHERD: So we are voting for because- you know, there are some that are voting for him because he’s black. I really believe that we’re going for him because he’s qualified and also too-

HASSELBECK: I would hope so.

SHEPHERD: Please do not take away the fact that this is a- we’ve never seen a man with this many qualifications who’s in this place of power. It makes- I’m a black woman, I’m so proud of this man.

HASSELBECK: Yes and I would never take that away from you. I would never take that away, but our conversation the other day-

SHEPHERD: He’s so- he’s qualified. It’s not that he’s just because he’s black. He’s qualified.

HASSELBECK: But, we, this came off of our conversation the other day where it said yeah we kind of were talking lightly about the fact that, yeah, you know black people, of course we’re going to want a black person to be president, so that came right out of our show. So I just wanted clarity on that because I would hope they were looking at more. I hope the women voting for Hillary weren’t just saying, "you know what? I want a woman in there." I want-

GOLDBERG: Here, here’s the clarity. People of certain age, if you’re a woman, the fact that Hillary could be president, knocks the poop out of you. It knocks you out. Wait, wait, wait. Let me finish. Let me finish.

HASSELBECK: Go ahead.

GOLDBERG: And, and so it is very very tempting. You’re going to look at everything and make sure that she’s the person you want to, to hire for the job. But you are looking at her specifically as a woman because this was never possible before. If you’re black, the idea that you could have a black president in the United States of America where they used to hang us from trees, knocks us out.

HASSELBECK: Sure.

GOLDBERG: So a lot of folks are going to say "you know what? I’m going to get, take this opportunity to change history and make a black person president." Both of these things have never happened before and I know what you’re saying, but in the realistic world, people are voting for something they’ve never seen before that is close to their heart or their grandmother’s heart or their great grandmother’s heart. And that’s what it is right now.

HASSELBECK: I, I would love that as well. I would love to change history.

BEHAR: People also vote in their own interests. You know, women over 50 have a lot of trouble getting a job because of ageism in the industry. And Hillary presents an alternative to that. So that’s people’s interest. If you’re a black person, you might figure "well, a black president might be working in my interests." It’s just like the white male loves his tax cuts, so they vote for a lot of them vote for Republicans. It’s in their interests. See my point?

HASSELBECK: All I’m saying is this, look. All I’m saying is that I hope that you would say I think people want whoever their candidate is to succeed if you identify with that. Absolutely. But I would hope that it would go deep than the things that have- I would hope that it would go deeper than the things that have prevented those people from being in office as well. That’s all I’m saying.

GOLDBERG: When it happens three times, that would probably be more the case. But right now, I think a lot of people are voting their, their dreams. The dreams that, that American promised and didn’t deliver.

HASSELBECK: Fulfill, I hope they can fulfill that.

GOLDBERG: For, for- well, but you know, white guys haven’t done it either. Nobody’s been able to fulfill the dream that we have.

HASSELBECK: No, guess what, I would love a black- I would love a black man to be president. I would love a woman to be president.

BEHAR: One at a time!

SHEPHERD: But you’ve seen, you know, your entire lifetime you’ve seen people in positions of power that look like you. I, I am- the first time in my life, I am seeing a man that’s running who looks like me.

HASSELBECK: I’ve never seen a president that looks like me.

[laughter]

SHEPHERD: They look like you. They are white and they look like you. I want to be able- it shows young black men that they can have a voice in politics. It shows my son Jeffrey that he can do the same thing too.

HASSELBECK: I’m not against the idea. I just- I’m against the idea of not just looking beyond the things which have prevented them from being in office. We need to step away from that a little bit and look at the entire picture. That’s all I’m saying.

GOLDBERG: It’s a very- and I say this with a huge amount of love. It’s a very white way to look at it.

HASSELBECK: What do you mean?

GOLDBERG: And I, I’m saying this with love, so I understand, because it’s never.

HASSELBECK: Let me take off my "white" goggles.

SHEPHERD: You can’t. I wish you could. You can’t.

GOLDBERG: But you can’t. That’s what I’m trying to explain. This, for us, is totally- it’s not an experience I can explain to you. I can’t explain why black folks are saying "oh my God."

HASSELBECK: Look at the woman factor then.

GOLDBERG: I was going to get to that because it becomes a cross groove for me because black and a woman. You know, I’m just like "put them both in." The hell with it. But the, but the idea that this is a very specific kind of thing. Now, you are not old enough to remember when women decided that the best thing that they can do is burn their bra in public and that was a huge deal. But for women to say "I’m taking it off and I’m actually going to get a job." The idea that there is a woman that could be in charge is so insanely huge.

Why Are Liberal Women Stupid?

"She hypothesized that a woman over 50 who may face age discrimination may vote for Hillary as a way to combat that."

Why do liberal women think that Hillary Clinton cares about women and children?  Eight years as First Lady and several years as Senator of New York.  Don't you think if she was interested she would have done something by now?

Why Are...

For the same reason that modern liberal men have no spines - liberalism is a mental disorder. It gums up one's thinking process.

"All that is necessary for the trimuph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Hillary Cares About Women?

If Hillary wants to show that she cares about women, Juanita Brodderick and Paula Jones would be a good place to start.

Not

Not to mention Monica Lewinsky, Gennifer Flowers, Dolly Browning, Connie Hamzy, Sally Perdue, Eileen Wellstone, Sandra James, Christy Zercher, Suzy Whitacer, and Elizabeth Ward!

I didn't know! Why didn't anyone tell me??

You mean to tell me that when I looked in the mirror in the morning and beheld my beautiful, brown face that I was actually WHITE along? This STUNS me!

I am a black woman. And I vote for a person 'based on qualifications or/[or] ideology'. Not the color of their skin or their gender.

I could care less if a candidate is black or a woman. What are their views? What are their plans for this country? What direction do they want this country to go in? Will they stand up to terrorists? Do they care a little too much about other country's opinions of us? What will they be doing to combat illegal immigration? (From the looks of these three candidates - NOTHING!) Will they raise my taxes!?

Maybe I should visit The View and show them that every woman is not a bleeding-heart liberal.

Whoopie just embarassed herself. Sherri did too.

I understand what you are

I understand what you are saying, being half Asian American, I vote for a person based on qualifications and the issues too. I too could care less what a persons race and gender is.

Amen, Sista!

I am also a black person who, as Martin Luther King hoped, judges people not on their skin color but on the content of their character. Something that continuelly flies over the heads of these women. Whoopie and Sherri shamelessly use the cheap race card every time. You know, the "you-don't-understand, it's-a-black-thang!" line of defense to stifle any criticism or, shutter the thought, FACT.

Can you imagine if that type of trick was thrown back in Whoopie's face? Al Sharpton would be calling for Hasellbeck's head even if whatever she said was "with love."

Memo to Whoopi

Whoopi:

Loved you in Star Trek: The Next Generation.  You're a decent actor and a talented comedian when you don't work blue.  But your liberal racism pretty much disqualifies you from doing what you're doing now with even a dram of credibility.

Call J. J. Abrams and see if he can whip up a cameo for you in Star Trek XI.  Then, get off that insipid talk show.  Less opining, more jokes.  That is to say, more intentional jokes.

How about returning to the

How about returning to the middle square on Hollywood Squares.

Really I think Whoopi should become a gameshow host.  She should do a version of either "The Dating Game" or "The Newlywed Game".

The View and Whoopdido...

Apparently it's ok for Whoopdido Goldfarb to call Liz "very white" but heaven forbid that Liz would make an Imus-like comment such as "nappy headed ho" or "you have a black attitude", she would have been fired on the spot!

Once again, the freakin' double standard of the MSM raises it's ugly head.

Speaking as a white male, I

Speaking as a white male, I LOVE tax cuts.  And anyone with at least half a brain should also love tax cuts.  If you have a job and your “wealthy” boss gets his taxes raised, you may no longer have a job because your “wealthy” boss can’t afford to pay the increased taxes and your salary.  Want to know why companies are being forced to ship jobs overseas?  That’s right, tax policy (and inflated wages & benefits).  A company cannot succeed if the cost of doing business is too high…so the company can either close shop or find ways to cut costs (like moving to more tax-friendly destinations with lower employment costs).  Either way, Americans lose jobs.

And why would any average American invest his hard-earned money in our economy if the tax policy made the benefit of his return not worth the risk?  But nooooo!  Apparently only rich, white guys benefit from tax cuts.

A Politically Incorrect Comment

TotalKaosDave

Maybe white men love tax cuts because white men pay a lot of taxes...(let the hate begin...go ahead, I deserve it...)

OK, here you go....

Shame on you!!! You're not suppose to bring that up!! People who don't pay taxes are supposed to get tax breaks!!

When Obama was asked why he wanted to raise the Capital Gains tax, even knowing it would lead to reduced revenues, he said "for fairness."

He doesn't even care if the treasury loses money in the process! He just wants to punish people who have a little more than others!!

I'm confused

According to Jeremiah Wright, I'm not white or black or asian or hispanic.

I'm a garlic nose.

Do I like tax cuts or not?

Not Only Tax Breaks!

Those who don't pay taxes get a F*cking REBATE!  I can't beleive it!!!  I made too much this year so I don't qualify for the stimulus REBATE!  Some dumb shit sitting on his ass gets $600 of my money and I get squat!  Just love this screwed up Demofacist government we have today!  Wait until the Socialist Obama take sover!

Sorry, Chasvs, I am one of

Sorry, Chasvs, I am one of those people.  We did not pay taxes the last 2 years because my husband's combat pay was tax exempt and we are getting the rebate.  I will say, though, that deployments for national guard families are expensive.  We had 3 vacations with him in those 2 years and because you never know if you are going to see each other again you make those vacations fun and you often do not have a choice where those vacations will be.  Then there is the web cam, the need to hire help for all of the things your husband normally fixed (electrical, plumbing, automotive) and in my area where 300 guys left from, there were not a lot of places offering discounts to families to help them out (I did not find one one man even told me he did not think anyone shouldhep us out becous our spouses volunteered).  Then you have the NG guys who own businesses who lost their entire business because they were gone for 2 years.....I could go on, but I don't really need to.  That is why I do not feel guilty about my tax return or the rebate.  Our family worked our arses off those 2 years.  It was the hardest thing I ever did.

amber, I for one, have no

amber, I for one, have no problem with giving our troops the rebate. As a matter of fact, would not bother me any to give them all a flat out $600.00 bonus at the end of every year.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Right Bass - I agree - soldiers

shouldn't ever have to pay taxes on their pay (other than payroll) whether it's combat or not. Their spouse's pay and their investment income should be exempt while they are in combat - at least up to 100,000 or something. Their service and sacrifice for their country is worth more than what anyone pays in taxes.

I know most people don't.

I know most people don't.  Thank you.

We pay lots of taxes now though and my husband works full time for the NG.  It is a privilage and an honor that he can do that job.  We feel very lucky.

Amber

Thank you to you and your family for the sacrifices you make. Communities everywhere should be offering discounts and assistance. That is one thing I noticed when we went to the Ozarks on vacation. There were discounts and thank yous everywhere for the troops. That doesn't happen in my Blue state.

I wonder just how Whoopi and others are gonna' feel about taxes and Wesley Snipes getting three years today for not paying his?

I remember reading this and thinking I agreed with Whoopi at the time and now she is essentially saying the opposite?!  Someone should point that out to her.

Voting

Why is it, that if Obama receives 90% of the black vote that's okay, but, if a white candidate were to receive 90% of the white vote than that would be racist. Can't have it both ways. Both democratic candidates are not qualified.

Thats libs for ya. Besides,

Thats libs for ya.

Besides, if either dem wins, it will be one less thing for them to bitch about. It isnt in their interest to win the election.

That Make Sense!

Since it's only White men who pay taxes it would make sense that they'd like them.  Given our minorities place at the table of government handouts from those taxes, i see why they don't like them!

Blonde, Funny! I was

Blonde,

Funny! I was thinking more of a good talking to!

The fallacy of the whole

The fallacy of the whole discussion is that the election of the "first woman" or "first black" to the office of POTUS will somehow transform America. Once the confetti settles, it won't matter if the person sitting in the Oval Office is a woman, a "black" man, or a white-haired Vietnam vet. The job description won't change. What will matter is whether or not that person is prepared to lead. Hillary has the ambition. Obama has the charisma. But neither of them looks like a leader - and it has nothing to do with sex or race.

Take off your "black goggles" Whoopi Pie.

I think that America is quite ready for a woman or a black in the Oval Office. But that doesn't mean that the first people to "apply" should get the job. In fact, I don't see Obama as a "black" candidate anyway. Given his family and personal history, he's more of a token black. And Behar shows her true colors when she suggests that women over 50 will vote for Hillary because they know about age discrimination. (Note that Behar refers to "the industry" when she talks about age discrimination. Ha.)What a dope. The day that I vote for a woman for POTUS because she's in my age group is the day I should have my car keys taken away.

To these dummies the Dem strategy is nothing more than an attempt to win the Presidency by means of affirmative action.

I am the exotic Queen Mum, and I approved this message.

My only comment, ...

...which actuallty is a question,  "Why does anybody in their right mind watch this loser progam and who gives a damn what any of these 4 witches think about anything?"

Non-stop MayBerry RFD re-runs would be a far better choice.

"A very white way to look at

"A very white way to look at it?"  Why would Whoopi say, indirectly, that white people look at it with logic?  I realize that's not what she meant, but if voting for someone on merit, views, and qualifications, is "a white way to look at it," yet really it's a simply a logical way to look at it......alright then.  Same way with any program that discriminates toward a group of people and away from a group....programs such as Affirmative Discrimation - which of course I'm sure she's in complete favor of too, since, after all, discrimination is only discrimination if one doesn't like it, right Whoopi?  If one likes it, as she and may do Aff Discrimination, then by all means there's no problem with it.

Is it

Is it not ridiculous for Whoopi to propose that Elizabeth cannot ever know how it is to be black, but she knows exactly how something can be viewed in a "very white" way?

That delusional leftist intellect sure gives people great insight!

AzRenegade

Time to confront black racism

We'll never have a color blind society as long as it's OK for blacks to say racist things like what Whoopi said today.  The stereotype is that whites are inherently racist and incapable of having any understanding of or sensitivity to black concerns.  The wrongs done to blacks in the past do not justify this attitude in the present, especially given the changes whites have made in the last half century to improve their attitudes.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Very Stupid

I've noticed that Whoopi's comments and views are "very stupid."

I notice that she is getting posted on Newsbusters.org on nearly a daily basis with her "unique brand of wisdom."

Hahahaha...Ted Danson.....hahahaha

I never understood why they

I never understood why they have such love for "mother Africa"  when it was mother Africa who enslaved them... oh and killed most of them before they made it to the ships because they did not want the cost of feeding or clothing them on the long march to the coast.  At the same time, it was white Christians who worked tirelessly to free them, it was a white Christian woman who wrote Uncle Toms Cabin, it was white Christians who gave Soujourner Truth a place to speak out.  A few plantation owners in the US enslaved people....by no means the majority, yes they were white, but some of them were black too.  It was a White Replublican who freed them.

I just do not understand.  The black man was able to vote in US elections far before the white woman.  Most of us here do not even have ancestors who were in the US durring the time of slavery and if we did, they were just scratching out a living, trying to make a new start.  I am a third generation German, Norwegian, Dutch woman.  I have never denied a black person employment because they are black, I have never forced a black person to work without pay (nor has any member of my family).

Ill quit, it is not worth it, they are so blinded by their invisible oppression, a black way of thinking by the way.

Sadly many black children are told lies that breed anger and hate and they never grow to see past them or look for the truth.

Adding to your post, it was white christians who ran the underground rairoad, and white christians who were the abolitionists. And let us never forget the huge number of white men who fought (7 members of my own family) for the Union Army, many of who were wounded or killed in the civil war. When was the last time you heard any "civil rights" leader talk about those heroes?

I believe that slavery was a horrific stain on this country for many years. Yet I cringe when I hear anyone say "all" white people are somehow responsible for it. The truth is that a very small minority of rich white southerners held slaves. But don't take my word for it, look up the 1860 census numbers and the social breakdowns. The truth shall set us all free.

Tribalism

Reading Whoopi in her blind uncritical support for Obama and noting that 97% of black men voted for Obama makes me homesick for Africa where I grew up.

There tribalism is rife in all aspects of society (that's why democracy does not work too well).  People in Africa vote for those who belong to the same tribe or sub-tribe regardless of political points of view.

I had hoped the US had moved past that.
