Whoopi and Joy Rooting for McCain?

Whoopi and Joy admit, a part of them wants McCain to win. Why? They want a Republican to clean up after a "Republican mess." Whoopi added that if Hillary or Obama wins "they" (without saying who "they" are, Republicans? The media?) will mercilessly pursue scandal allegations the way "they" allegedly did to former President Bill Clinton.

Joy Behar, to her credit, added "but they also have the other side to get on McCain." Behar added that she agrees with Whoopi to "let them clean up their own mess. They broke it. Let them fix it." She also worried "that they make much more damage than we even have dreamed of."

The entire transcript is below.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: You know, part of me wants McCain to win because this is, in my mind, this is really a Republican mess that he says he can clean it up. I want him to. But I also know that if Hillary wins, that she’s going to spend the first four years doing exactly what Bill Clinton ended up doing, that, you know they’re going to have girdlegate and muddlegate and dookygate.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: You think so?

GOLDBERG: Yeah I do. I do.

HASSELBECK: How do you know?

GOLDBERG: I don’t know. I’m just telling you what I think. I think that they will get on her the way they got on him. And I think that if Obama wins, they’re going to get on him the same way. I think this is a no win-

JOY BEHAR: But they also have the other side to get on McCain.

GOLDBERG: I just want to finish this sentence.

[laughter]

BARBARA WALTERS: You got to get used to it we never finish sentences.

GOLDBERG: I do and you guys do.

WALTERS: Go ahead.

GOLDBERG: Now, I forgot what the hell I was saying [laughter] Nevermind.

HASSELBECK: You said they’ll get on Obama just the same.

GOLDBERG: They’ll get on it, I don’t think that anybody’s going to have an easy ride on this. I don’t think it’s going to be easy for anybody, this is going to be, this is going to go on as long as it needs to. And people need to relax and know that you can’t- it’s not the instant- what is the thing? Instant message world.

BEHAR: Right.

GOLDBERG: Because we want it to be over so we can get to the point. But this is a little bit different.

BEHAR: Can I add something? Just that I agree with your points that it would be great if a Republican won in a way. Because we can’t lose that way. Let them clean up their own mess. They broke it. Let them fix it. And let’s see what happens. It could be that they make much more damage than we even have dreamed of. That’s the only problem that I have with it.

WALTERS: Oh you want them to win so it gets even dirtier.

BEHAR: No, let them fix it.
