Joy Behar Misleads on Scheduled Tax Hikes

In Joy Behar’s fantasy world, an automatic tax increase for nearly all income taxpayers are simply "taking back tax cuts to the rich." And if one calls it a tax increase, one is engaging in "double speak." On the January 29 edition of "The View," the co-hosts chatted about President Bush’s last State of the Union and co-host Joy Behar added this comment on the president’s tax hike veto pledge.

"There was one point where he says, you know, ‘no- we will not-’ basically he’s saying we’re not going to take back our tax cuts to the rich. Which he interprets as ‘tax increases.’ Just because you’re taking it back, he says it’s an increase. See that double speak I don’t care for."

Perhaps this rich woman should read more into what will happen if these "tax cuts for the rich" expire. The Heritage Foundation documented that not only the rich will get hit if nothing is done by 2011. For example, those on the bottom of the income tax bracket will automatically get a 50 percent tax hike or "taking it back" as Joy Behar calls it. Here are some of the "rich" that will be affected by the automatic tax increase.

  • Tax rates will rise substantially in each tax bracket, some by 450 basis points;
  • Low-income taxpayers will see the 10-percent tax bracket disappear, and they will have to pay taxes at the 15-percent rate;
  • Married taxpayers will see the marriage penalty return;
  • Taxpayers with children will lose 50 percent of their child tax credits.

But I'm sure Joy is OK with liberals who call increasing funding by only 5% instead of 8%, a "cut."

Use every tax break possible.If they are so much for higher taxes why dont they just pay their taxes without deductions or any benefit to reduce what they pay in taxes.Buffet and Soros and the rest talk alot of trash but you can bet they have a platoon of acountants saving them every penny they can.

Agreed. I am so sick of gazillionaires who think they're not taxed enough, but refuse to pony up unless everyone else is forced to pay more too. I have two words for people who think they're not paying enough in taxes: Why not??

While I'm flattered that Ms. Behar thinks that I'm rich (I must be, since I got one of those tax cuts that only the rich supposedly received), the truth of the matter is, if the rates return to their old ways, it will put a significant strain on my family. We won't starve, but we won't be contributing a whole lot to the economy beyond our basic needs, either.

Sure we can tighten our belts, but what about the businesses that rely on people like us and our discretionary funds for their income? Will Joy be shocked when restaurants, toy stores, jewelry stores, florists, etc. are suddenly closing down due to a drop in business?

Why are people like Joy so freakin' myopic when it comes to the economy?

And tax cuts were implemented we "stimulated the economy" by replacing our kitchen refrigerator which conked-out just days before the tax cut check came in the mail, and also was able to pay for a semester's worth of college text books ... for TWO college students ... not to mention paying various bills and house payment(s).

Oh, and we're NOT rich ... We are roughly [middle] middle class, if that.

Funny thing is, I can tell you exactly how many minutes a week I spend listening to idiots like Behar and Olbermann: zero. I do give Bill Maher time each week, however, and I say that without shame. Though I share almost no political position with Bill, he is occasionally right about some things. As opposed to Behar, who has no clue.
