ABC's Kate Snow: Lieberman a 'Conservative Democrat'

According to ABC’s Kate Snow, support for the Iraq War automatically makes one a conservative, even if that individual is liberal on most other issues. In reporting on the increasingly tight race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Snow briefly mentioned at the end that Joseph Lieberman endorsed John McCain. She dismissively referred to Lieberman as a "conservative Democrat."

"And he won over long-time Democrat, all be it a conservative one, Senator Joe Lieberman, who ran with Al Gore, will endorse McCain later today."

Though Lieberman’s support of the Iraq War is well known, Lieberman is hardly a conservative or even a "conservative Democrat." Lieberman voted with the American Conservative Union’s agenda 17 percent of the time in 2006 and 16.8 percent lifetime. He voted with the ACU’s liberal equivalent, Americans for Democratic Action, 75 percent of the time in 2006.

The entire transcript is below.

CHRIS CUOMO: Let's turn to the race for '08 and Hillary Clinton. Just a few weeks ago, she looked invincible, but now with 17 days left to the Iowa caucuses, she's in the race of her life. Over the weekend though, she did pick up the endorsement of the "Des Moines Register." And as "Good Morning America" weekend anchor Kate Snow reports, Hillary Clinton is doing all she can to win back more support.

KATE SNOW: Check out the 1980 Bell 222, AKA the Hill-o-copter. Senator Clinton and her supports plan to take to the air to hit all of Iowa's 99 counties in this key week before Christmas.

SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON (D-NY): I could not be more pumped up. I am thrilled.

SNOW: Clinton is flying high off that endorsement from Iowa's biggest newspaper. Some good news after weeks of bad ink.

SENATOR BARACK OBAMA (D-IL): I think that this is how we're going to win this election.

SNOW: Barack Obama is leading polls in Iowa, and now he's coming on strong in New Hampshire, too. Sunday he won the endorsement of the neighboring paper, "The Boston Globe." But a certain former president says all those Obama supporters are rolling the dice. In a conversation with Charlie Rose Friday night, Bill Clinton talked at length about why he thinks Barack Obama isn't ready to be president.

FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON: When's the last time we elected a president based on one year of service?

OBAMA: Here's a quote. "The same old experience is irrelevant. You can have the right kind of experience or the wrong kind of experience. And mine is rooted in the real lives of real people, and it will bring real results if we have the courage to change." And that was Bill Clinton in 1992.

SNOW: Beyond the Democrats, it was a good weekend to be John McCain. He won nods from both the "Des Moines Register" and "The Boston Globe." And he won over long-time Democrat, all be it a conservative one, Senator Joe Lieberman, who ran with Al Gore, will endorse McCain later today. For "Good Morning America," Kate Snow, ABC News, Des Moines, Iowa.

Update: On NBC's "Today" report Lee Cowan gave a much more accurate description stating Lieberman "calls himself an independent Democrat."

But would the MSM ever call

But would the MSM ever call Chuck Hagel a Liberal Republican ? No, he is considered a "maverick Republican".

The media is soooo predictable.

DaBird, it might have something

It might have something to do with the fact that Hagel's voting record as analyzed by the National Journal in 2006 wasn't exactly "liberal".  He was close to the middle of the Republican pack.

On the other hand, there were just a handful of Democrats who had a more conservative voting record than Lieberman, so identifying him as a conservative Democrat was not really out of line.

Republicans such as Lincoln Chafee and Susan Collins have been appropriately identified as liberal Republicans by the MSM.

Jer

Taking sides

The labels have no intellectual substance for these people. It just means, in general, "he's one of us" or "he's one of them." Liberal = us, conservative = them. It's just a code-word that goes from issue to issue. That same reporter, considering a report on abortion, would say that McCain and Lieberman are complete opposites.

As a theory of government, or even a preference for the proper balance between individual and state, the dichotomy of liberal/conservative means nothing to them.

SNOW: Beyond the Democrats,

SNOW: Beyond the Democrats, it was a good weekend to be John McCain. He won nods from both the "Des Moines Register" and "The Boston Globe." And he won over long-time Democrat, all be it a conservative one, Senator Joe Lieberman, who ran with Al Gore, will endorse McCain later today. For "Good Morning America," Kate Snow, ABC News, Des Moines, Iowa.

Yo Snow...this example you have above is exactly the reason McCain the so-called Maverick will never ever win as long as he continues to pretend to be a real conservative.

The msm of all and any venue endorsing critters like McCain and Huckabee are doing us a favor and they do not even realize it...their silly so-called influence is a vanishing one....heheheeee

As an aside I love what Obama is doing to the Clintoons...his line at the Iowa debate to Hillary was absolutely delicious and quoting Bill from his own words when he was running the first time is also delectable.

I love it.... love it.... love it!

More proof...

... that the MSM is full of people who do nothing but read what is put in front of them and/or believe whatever they are told by their like minded compatriots.

I would wager that the average reader of NB, LGF, Powerline or any other number of blogs knows more about what is going on in the world and in domestic politics than the vast majority of so called journalists, reporters, and anchors.

Liberman quote of the day

Liberman quote of the day in the New Haven Register

http://www.nhregiste...

"There’s no question that at times I think some of the Democrats look at me sort
of like the... eccentric uncle, perhaps even the odd uncle at the family
gatherings: ‘We like him, but every now and then he says things that makes us
wonder.’"

She says that like it's a

She says that like it's a bad thing!

Keep in mind in 2006 all the news networks were calling Liebermann a Democrat and was lumped together with the democrats that took over the senate/house.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

Democracks should be

Democracks should be trembling to their bones why a VP democrack candidate endorsing an opposing Republican!! Let's get Zel Miller and Lieberman do the campaigning for the party. Just my two cents, Lieberman could get the nudge as Defense, State or Homeland Security Secretary if a Republican wins the White House.

Let these two men also speak during the Republican convention.

Exactly. I've never been

Exactly. I've never been entirely opposed to a Miller/Liebermann ticket, though...

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

I'd vote for Give 'em Hell

I'd vote for Give 'em Hell Zell' in a minute flat...

...or less...lol!

Please, get real. Sore

Please, get real. Sore Loserman is as liberal as it gets when it comes to abortion and Supreme Court picks. I believe he's a few shades to the left of Kucinich on social values issues.

So what, he supports the war on Islamofascism - so does Hitlery (same voting record as Sore Loserman). Lieberman is such a two-faced, hypocritical weasel, his own party tossed him out. But do we see this strong "conservative" putting his money where his mouth is, and joining those tough-on-defense Republicans? No, not on your life. Lieberman and Bernie Sanders - two peas from the same pod.
