Brent Bozell Talks ‘Dizzying’ Unemployment Spin on ‘Fox & Friends’

Media Research Center’s President Brent Bozell appeared on “Fox & Friends” Oct. 29, to discuss the broadcast networks’ spin on unemployment.

“Well, it confirms what many conservatives have said for years. It absolutely confirms it, but when you look at the numbers it really does rattle you because it is so obvious when the same reporters are taking two completely different positions because of their political proclivities,” Bozell told Steve Doocy.

After showing this video of network coverage of unemployment leading up the mid-term elections under Bush in 2005-2006 and Obama in 2009-2010, Doocy said, “OK Brent, so there they are trying to put on the happy face. I’m still struck by the comment during the Bush administration where they were talking about ‘Oh, unemployment’s at 4.8 percent. The sky is falling’.”

Bozell replied: “Just 113,000 jobs created. Just 128,000 jobs created. Those are numbers that Barack Obama would love to have today. Here’s the reality Steve, in ‘05-’06 the unemployment was at 4.8 percent, at one point it was at 4.4 percent. Economists said it couldn’t go under 6 percent. It was at 4.8 percent for the year.”

“With Barack Obama, everything was jobs,” Bozell continued. “That’s what he told us. He put us into debt $3 trillion to create jobs. What are the numbers? 15 million unemployed Americans. Unemployment sky-high.”

The Business & Media Institute analyzed the network unemployment coverage and found that in 2005-06 negative reports and stories spun negatively accounted for 58 percent of the stories. In 2009-10, positive reports and stories spun positively accounted for 52 percent.

“That makes no sense,” Bozell told Fox News Channel.

I had to rush to get my trash

Submitted by Captain Repus on Fri, 10/29/2010 - 11:06am.

I had to rush to get my trash out in time for the truck this morning - barely made it in time. I think I will wake up a little early next Tuesday morning just to make sure I don't miss dumping the trash that day.

Did you know Doug has Mesothelioma? We'll deal with the government. You have enough to worry about.

Its about the liberal's power

Submitted by Airforce_5_O on Fri, 10/29/2010 - 11:33am.

This has never been about jobs at all with the liberal elite.  This is about taking the power of the people away from them because “government knows best!”  Bull Turds!  The people are the governments boss not the other way around!

The MSM has become nothing more than the state run media for the liberal cause.

I remember

Submitted by dirtydan64 on Fri, 10/29/2010 - 11:45am.

When the LSM was touting how bad Bush has handled the Econonmy and when it was just 4.5% UE which basically is normal UE numbers but usually closer to 3.5% UE, now were at a staggerring 10% with a staggering  $13 Trillion in debtitness to China there's not a peep, whimper from those A-Holes and even though Bush created the enviorment to allow Business to create 100K jobs , like Brent mentions, Bo would kill to have those numbers !!!

I have to say it's the LSM next after Tuesday November 2nd !!! It's high time we send them packing right along with there counter part Democrats they schilled for for nearly 6 years !! Time to throw the baby out with the bath water finally !!!

Negative Unemployment

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Fri, 10/29/2010 - 4:20pm.

When the unemployment rate was at 4.5%, and the United States was being flooded with illegal immagrants, and everywhere you looked you would see a sign for "Help Wanted", we were actually at a negative unemployment rate.  Employers could not find enough people to fill the jobs available.

The actual reported rate of unemployment will never fall below the 4%ish area.  Individual businesses fail and people will be fired for cause.  People will work the system and collect unemployment before finding a new job, even if jobs are available.  And when times are flush, people will wait for a better job before taking the first available job.

When the rate was reported at 4.5%, there were more jobs to be had then people to fill them.
