Just as Noel Sheppard and Rich Noyes noted rare kudos to the "better late than never" coverage done by CBS in exposing Hillary's fabrications on her Bosnia trip as First Lady, I too was shocked that a major news outlet was actually giving the story coverage. I know that many Newsbusters readers were as well.
Be prepared to be doubly shocked. CBS did follow-up coverage with video again tonight.
Hillary had originally hyped her foreign policy experience with a lie that she landed there under sniper fire and that the welcoming committee was cancelled. Newsbusters exposed the lie and CBS video surfaced showing the world beyond a shadow of a doubt that Hillary was caught in a lie.
She is now spinning and back pedaling double-time, however she isn't doing it very well. She doesn't seem to know when to stop digging. She is now coming out with even more outrageous lies like, "for the first time in 12 or so years I misspoke.'' I think she should try that crying trick again.

As much as I would like to
March 25, 2008 - 23:17 ET by Chris NormanAs much as I would like to applaud CBS for finally doing it's job covering Hillary Clinton's "memories" of her trip to Bosnia, I have no doubt that, if she were running unopposed in the primaries, this story would never have been covered or dismissed with as little coverage as possible. Only for the fact that the media has a new favorite - Obama - is Hillary given any negative scrutiny at all by the MSM. I give CBS a one handed applause...

Chris...what do you believe
March 25, 2008 - 23:24 ET by JerChris...what do you believe were the motives of the New York Times, the LA Times, and Newsweek in leading the Whitewater investigative reporting on Clinton prior to the 1992 election?

Jer???
March 25, 2008 - 23:42 ET by candanceAre you seriously trying to compare the Whitewater scandal to a made up story about sniper fire?
The Bosnia embellishment has no legal ramifications; it's just an embarrassing story. And I agree - if Hillary had the nomination locked up, the MSM would downplay this exactly as they've done to Obama's church.
John Hagee has gotten more airtime from the media than Jeremiah Wright. And this story has already been covered much more negatively than anything Obama has misspoken about.

March 26, 2008 - 00:17 ET by Jercandance...Whitewater vs. Bosnia sniper fire is not an issue that's relevant to my point. It's the frequent assertion, both explicit and implicit, that the MSM continually and reflexively runs interference for Democrats while zealously hyping any tidbit which may be even slightly embarrassing to Republicans.
I don't believe that to be the case. Whitewater is one example. Gary Hart and Donna Rice is another. And there are plenty more.

Hillary Tales
March 25, 2008 - 23:50 ET by KC MulvilleMay I remind everyone that CBS didn't expose the story? (Until tonight, I didn't realize that CBS was taking credit for the story.) Newsbusters has been talking about this for a while, not to mention the people who were in Bosnia that day, and who'd heard Hillary's Tale. I happened to see O'Reilly tonight, and Colonel Hunt was on, and he was in chrage of the landing. He was not happy with Madame ...
Suddenly the news media is "discovering" that the Clintons have been telling whoppers for years ... and I'll bet some reporter will win a Pulitzer for the same stories that Newsbusters has been talking about for years.
Save the Newsbusters headlines from last week, especially the ones about Obama -- they'll show up in October, and the old media will claim they've exposed those stories also.
You are right on, KC. Now
March 26, 2008 - 06:41 ET by motherbeltYou are right on, KC. Now that they have "decided" to cover it, (read: been embarrassed into) they have to treat it like it is their own scoop. They're out there saying, in effect "This just in!!!" and we're out here saying....(Yawn....) what else is new?
Hilarious.
Heck!
March 26, 2008 - 03:03 ET by heldmywSinbad scooped CBS.
I wonder who finally decided it was time to pith Hillary and get her out of the way. That's the only explanation for this.
THIS MIGHT BE CRUEL...
March 26, 2008 - 07:22 ET by danybhoySo CBS hit Hillary again, that's gotta be 1 more time then Bill hit her. I'm just saying...

Now let's see CBS jump all
March 26, 2008 - 07:58 ET by ConservativeRexNow let's see CBS jump all over an Obama lie. I's not like there haven't been numerous oportunities.
Obama's the Man
March 26, 2008 - 08:27 ET by FaulknerFanI suspect that the media has decided that the Hillary/Obama fight is really starting to hurt democrats and so they are trying to get her out of the race so their favotite can concentrate on the general election.
Possible Explanation
March 26, 2008 - 08:27 ET by Birch BarlowI'm also surprised by CBS giving the story coverage. However, Rush offered a possible explanation. He said Hillary might be hesitating to participate or declining to participate in a debate on CBS moderated by Katie Couric. This is CBS's way of getting even.
