Obama’s Church Sanitizes Website

  • Bookmark and Share

First the controversial pastor disappears from Obama’s website. Then his church plays the victim card. Now Trinity Baptist have removed the “black values” from their about us page! Is the new pastor bringing a new vision and vaules system? Lets hope so, but lets not forget the values they adopted before and are rooted in.

The 160-word section has since been deleted from the About Us page, replaced by videotaped testimonials from church members extolling the virtues of the church, including a white official from the parent United Church of Christ who said she feels welcome at predominantly black Trinity.

“These black ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever blacks are gathered,” the original webpage said.

Here is the entire text of the section before it was redacted:

“Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System, written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by the late Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God

2. Commitment to the Black Community

3. Commitment to the Black Family

4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education

5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence

7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect

8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”

9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community

10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions

11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System

12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.”

The church did not immediately return phone calls to explain why the page changed. Lets hope they have had an awakening and revelation to “change” from their hateful past.

I thought I'd pass this on to you all, because the media probably won't pay any attention to it.

Black Values?

Replace the word "black" with "white" in tenets #'s 2,3,9,10,11,12.  This would be all over the antique media.  And then there's the "disavowal of the pursuit of 'middleclassness'.  Huh?  But since I'm in the middle of reading Jonah Goldberg's book, Liberal Fascists, I think I have a pretty good idea of what they are getting at.  I just finished the chapter on the weather underground, the black panthers, Benjamin Chavis and other assorted charachters from the 60's-70's.  Obama's association with William Ayers(sp?) is also troubling.  I guess it remains to be seen if they will bend over backward as far as they did with the Clinton's to ignore this.  So far, they are doing pretty good.  According to Rush, the only place he's seen anything on it, other than John Ross at ABC, is at Fox and the conservative media.

I also think that it puts the lie to Obama's attempt to cover his tracks with Major Garrett of FNC the other night.  If they are working this hard to hide the words of a parishoner who claims that he never realized that this kind of garbage was preached in that church, then someone, somewhere is colluding with Mr. Obama.

You are so naive, but then again probably not. The offensive parts have been removed. Would you care to share your secret of how you got to the new page? It used to be in their about us page where anyone could easily find it.

Pruning the tree

There may indeed be some "pruning" of links to the text of the "black value system", but it's still linked to the home page. Google searching "black value" site:http://www.tucc.org brings up 8 hits (results at end). Number 7 (the home page) links to the actual system at the very end (which is the 1st Google hit). From context, it appears that there use to be a link to it from the About page (3'rd hit). At the end it states, "Click here to read about Dr. Wright’s talking points for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System", but following the link does not reveal it (only the "talking points", which happens to be hit 4). Hit 5 (a scholarship application) quotes the entire "System", and is linked to the home page via the Scholarships button. Number 6, Dr. Wright's own scholarship application, also includes the entire text. However, the version of the application on Scholarships page has that material missing.  Number 8 has only a passing reference to the System.

What is clear from hit 2 is that the system has been around since 1982 until today, spanning Obama's entire membership period. It appears to be a fundamental tenet of the church that he would surely know about.

THE BLACK VALUE SYSTEM

Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System, written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee, chaired by the late Vallmer Jordan in 1981.

Dr. Manford Byrd, our brother in Christ, withstood the ravage of being denied his earned ascension to the number one position in the Chicago School System.  His dedication to the pursuit of excellence, despite systematic denials, has inspired the congregation of Trinity United Church of Christ.  Prayerfully, we have called upon the wisdom of all past generations of suffering Blacks for guidance in fashioning an instrument of Black self-determination, the Black Value System.

Beginning in 1982, an annual Black Value System – Educational Scholarship in the name of Dr. Byrd was instituted.  The first recipient of the Dr. Manford Byrd Award, which is given annually to the man or woman who best exemplifies the Black Value System, was our brother, Dr. Manford Byrd.

These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered.  They consist of the following concepts:

  1. Commitment to God.  “The God of our weary years” will give us the strength to give up prayerful passivism and become Black Christian Activists, soldiers for Black freedom and the dignity of all humankind.
  2. Commitment to the Black Community.  The highest level of achievement for any Black person must be a contribution of strength and continuity of the Black Community.
  3. Commitment to the Black Family.  The Black family circle must generate strength, stability and love, despite the uncertainty of externals, because these characteristics are required if the developing person is to withstand warping by our racist competitive society.

Those Blacks who are blessed with membership in a strong family unit must reach out and expand that blessing to the less fortunate.

  4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education.  We must forswear anti-intellectualism.  Continued survival demands that each Black person be developed to the utmost of his/her mental potential despite the inadequacies of the formal education process.  “Real education” fosters understanding of ourselves as well as every aspect of our environment.  Also, it develops within us the ability to fashion concepts and tools for better utilization of our resources, and more effective solutions to our problems.  Since the majority of Blacks have been denied such learning, Black Education must include elements that produce high school graduates with marketable skills, a trade or qualifications for apprenticeships, or proper preparation for college.

Basic education for all Blacks should include Mathematics, Science, Logic, General Semantics, Participative Politics, Economics and Finance, and the Care and Nurture of Black minds.

  5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence.   To the extent that we individually reach for, even strain for excellence, we increase, geometrically, the value and resourcefulness of the Black Community.  We must recognize the relativity of one’s best; this year’s best can be bettered next year.  Such is the language of growth and development.  We must seek to excel in every endeavor.
  6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic.  “It is becoming harder to find qualified people to work in Chicago.”  Whether this is true or not, it represents one of the many reasons given by businesses and industries for deserting the Chicago area.  We must realize that a location with good facilities, adequate transportation and a reputation for producing skilled workers will attract industry.  We are in competition with other cities, states and nations for jobs.  High productivity must be a goal of the Black workforce.
  7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect.  To accomplish anything worthwhile requires self-discipline.  We must be a community of self-disciplined persons if we are to actualize and utilize our own human resources, instead of perpetually submitting to exploitation by others.  Self-discipline, coupled with a respect for self, will enable each of us to be an instrument of Black Progress and a model for Black Youth.
  8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness.”  Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the “talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control.

Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:

    1. Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.
    2. Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.
    3. Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us.”
    4. So, while it is permissible to chase “middleclassness” with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method – the psychological entrapment of Black “middleclassness.”  If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our “voluntary” contributions to methods A and B.  And more importantly, Black people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.
  9. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to the Black Community.

  10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions.
  11. Pledge Allegiance to All Black Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Black Value System.
  12. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Black Value System.  To measure the worth and validity of all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black Community and the Advancement of Black People towards freedom.

I was, am and will always

I was, am and will always be a believer and supporter of MLK, Jr's message of unification and equality:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character",

and,

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

MLK also said:

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."

Pastor Wright, who appears to preach antithetical to MLK's message, and Michelle Obama might want to take note of the last quote in particular.

rush to judgement

I wonder how hard Hillary pushed this cart?  I am not sure it is entirely fair to evaluate Obama by his friends or acquaintances. It would seem the proper course is to find a Journalist intimately familiar with the issues at hand and interview him to the teeth. It's only fair to measure him in light of his own beliefs.

Of course it's fair!! You

Of course it's fair!! You think Obama shouldn't be held accountable for attending a church with pretty much black power views??

Yes it really would be nice if he would grant an interview and answer all questions about his beliefs, and especially why he stayed close to a pastor who, he knew at least last year, he would have to distance himself from.

What do you think are the chances of his granting that interview??? Or of the MSM pushing him to do it?

why yes

I think intelligent people can be circumspect about the crowd they hang with. People are members of groups for different reasons and I have found that involvement for one's own motivations does not mean you carry water for the Cause. I would like to know how he thinks about it and why... then explain his continued involvement. He'll either be found to be an interesting person, or simply a person of interest.

Pinpointing the Change

Mr Erik Rush, a columnist, viewed the website of Senator Barack Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ, and viewed the Black Value System to which the church subscribes - to which ALL members must affix their signature in allegiance.

After Mr Rush's article appeared (21 Feb 07), Trinity United Church of Christ quickly changed the "About" page of their website (from this on 15 Mar 07 to this on 29 Mar 07) to NOT include the sworn dedication to upholding the Black Value System, hiding that strong and important cornerstone of the church, the pastor, and the members from the public.

The Wall Street Journal explains away Rev. Wright

A sad moment in journalism history.  Actual WSJ reporters are doing clean-up for the Obama campaign.

In this article, the WSJ describes Rev. Wright's racism as merely "blunt" talk rooted in Black cultural blah, blah, blah.

And of course they leave out the money quote about White man inventing AIDS to commit genocide on colored people.

Tell the editors what you think of this.

Sick and sad.

Sick and sad

et tu, WSJ??? Just shows

et tu, WSJ???

Just shows you how deep goes the fear of being labelled "racist."

And that's why Obama is not Teflon, but Kevlar.

I wonder.....

If the Manford Byrd, named in the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee, was in any way related to the great Senator from West Virginia?

Very similar to White Supremicist group tenents

I guess it's OK for them to practice bigotry and prejudice, because after all, they were victims of it. Isn't that what the "black leaders" are teaching their followers? It's OK to practice hate toward a group if members of that group hated you first.

Welfare junkies. Drive-bys. Crack whores. Hate Whitey. Kill snitches. Denigtate edge-u-kashon. Rapper crappers? Gang bangers. That BVS?

Has the Rev. Jeremiah X ever considered espousing the American Value System to his flock? Instead of blaming AIDs on Whitey Honkey MF's -- like little old me?

Because you know something, my ancestors lived in appalling conditions, in grinding poverty, for generations too, while some high falutin' Lord and Lady of the manor had it all.

So I'm getting more than a little peed at being lectured by me Lord and Lady's doing very nicely, white descendents on how I have to sit back and listen and understand and feel guilt about this perverted BS.

I'll tell you the Black Value System I respect.

The one practised by Dr Condi Rice, Alan Keyes, Michael Steele,  Colin Powell, Bill Cosby, and so many other genuine Americans who demonstrate every day how the Rev Wright and his deluded flock are the throwback to Jim Crow... Colored Only Bathrooms, Buses and Food Counters.

black values list

Notice that on this list that commitment to community comes before commitment to family. Where have heard that before? Oh, I remember; the socialism/communism values list. Strong nuclear families are the foundation of all other aspects of our society; when this foundation is weakend by government and cultural decisions, the results are evident in higher rates of drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, out of wedlock births, abortion, etc., and increasing dependance on the government to provide support when they are the very ones who have created many of them by the laws and policies they enact!

He Should Have Quit LONG Ago.

Frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of being expected to pay for my ancestors mistakes. There's not a person alive in America today that was a slave prior to the Civil War. In fact, I'll go so far as to say there's not anyone alive today that's the SON OR DAUGHTER of a pre-civil war slave. Neither is there anyone alive today who OWNED any slaves prior to the Emancipation Proclamation nor anyone who's PARENTS owned any. I'm at least 4 generations (at a minimum) removed from slave ownership (if any of my ancestors even DID own any slaves.) I refuse to be blamed for something my great-great something may or may not have done. I DO know that I had relatives that fought on both sides of the War Between the States. At least one in the Illinois Militia for the North and at least one who was a Tennessee volunteer for the South.

Obama SHOULD have disavowed this racist church decades ago. That he continues to support it financially does not bode well for his CURRENT disavowal of what's apparently commonly been preached there. No one is going to buy that he's stayed a member all these years, listening to this crap without criticism and is only just now realizing that his church's teachings DO reflect on how he's perceived.

Agreed, pappadave

Also:

How many of our ancestors arrived in America in the early 20th century and were shuffled through Ellis Island?

To my knowledge, not one walked off that boat ramp with a slave carrying their luggage.

St. Patrick was spat on

My ancestors on my father's side were low Scotch.  They came as indentured servants to Georgia, just a step up from slavery.  My wife has Irish ancestors.  The Irish used to endure signs that said "No Irish Allowed", etc.  They were called "Black Irish".  She also has German ancestors who were bakers and brewery workers.  Does that make her responsible for the holocaust?

This is a deluded, racist bunch who apparently never heard MLK's philosophy, and if they did they have rejected it for one of hate.

Great story, thanks for

Great story, thanks for sharing. Truth be told, most folks are color blind. I went through heck for being off race, but we must treat each other as individuals. A book title that has recently gotten my attention is " How to play the Race card and Loose" I will buy it next time I get to town. Racist will always be. We have to make sure they do not make an impression on us.

Quite honestly I love what this site does, but its contributors sometimes are a bit over the top concerning bigiotry. I know this will chap a few, but we should be bigger then that in my opinion.

I please, beg you all to refrain from all racism, and references to it.

Especially when so many of those in the black community conveniently ignore their own ancestor's significant role in slavery, many of whom still engage in the practice in one way or another even today.

This country was the first to fight a war to end slavery. As far as I'm concerned, reparations have already been paid....in blood. And anyone who doesn't like it can move to one of the more black-friendly countries in the world. I recommend Darfur, or Haiti. Maybe they'll gain a little perspective on how bad America really treats the black population.

Let us call the espoused Black Value System what it really is, a Black Separatist Movement.

13. Dedication to receiving reparations (money) to ease the pain our forefather suffered at the hands of the racists white man.
