As shown in this video, Chris Wallace and FOX News Sunday decided to misrepresent the words said by Fred Thompson by partially quoting them out of context. Notice in the quote below of FOX, the use of the multiple dots. This kind of covers people in misquoting folks in a legal manner.
"I like to say that I'm only consumed by very, very few things and politics is not one of them....I'm not sure in the world we live in today it's a terribly good thing that a President has too much fire in his belly."
However it is obvious how mis-leading it is when his actual quote is put into context. USA Today started this mis-quote meme as Newsbuster's Tom Blumer points out very well.
The first place, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. I wouldn’t be doing this. I grew up in very modest circumstances. I left government and I and my family have made sacrifices to be sitting here today. I haven’t had any income for a long time because I figured to be clean, you’ve got to cut everything off. I was doing speaking engagements and I had a contract to do a tv show. I had a contract with ABC radio…and so forth. A man would have to be a total fool to do all those things and to be leaving his family which is not a joyful thing if he didn’t want to do it.
I am not consumed by personal ambition. I will not be devastated if I don’t do it. I want the people to have the best president they can have.
It is kind of funny that I had just reported that the FOX website got his quote correct.
Anyway, Fred handles it very well on the spot and makes it very clear that he does want to be President, not for selfish personal ambition but because he cares about the future of the Country. If anyone is really interested in why Fred is running, and how much he wants it...check out his video message to Iowa voters.

Chris Wallace is just balancing the old man, Mike
December 30, 2007 - 19:02 ET by Lame CherryI actually warned Newsbusters in their praise of fair and balanced Chris Wallace a week ago in he was doing nothing but putting a rapist like Bill Clinton into Conservative company like Rush Limbaugh in his fair and balanced act.
I don't know too many people who would like to be compared to a rapist in the evils and good of fair and balanced, but that is what Chris Wallace's game plan is.
I have been a defender of Fox, but if you start adding up that crazy Geraldo Jerry Rivers, bawling Shep Smith at New Orleans and the typical Wallace family smear by association then just what is Fox really doing the past few years but a clever manipulation.
Wallace was proven no different than his old man today in smearing Fred Thompson. It was just one more herding of those Iowan sheep to make sure Fred doesn't get any percentage of a vote close to the top.........liberals don't want Thompson as he is thee only Conservative on the campaign.
I will not bet, but will caution Newsbusters that when Thompson does not place high that Fox and all the MSM will start a chant of, "Is Thompson going to quit".......followed by, "Do you think a looser like Fred Thompson should just quit?"
They want dinosaure McCain as the skewed polls all showed this week in coming out of nowhere.
Iowa is as dopey as it's neighbor states of the Dakotas, Minnesota and Nebraska for not understanding a thing about what it takes to be president as the list of nincompoops coming out of that region is legion.
George McGovern, Tom Daschle, Byron Dorgan, Mark Dayton, Amy Klobachar, Tom Harkins, Paul Wellstone, Stephie Herseth and the appendage with the twin midgets out of Nebraska.
Who the heck needs communism when that area does nothing but send them to Washington.

Wow, did you and Stephenson ever misread that, Lame Cherry
December 30, 2007 - 19:37 ET by RJThompson couldn't have asked for a better softball pitch.
Wallace set Thompson up with a perfect lead-in to give a nice, long refutation....and he hit it out of the park. Notice that Wallace didn't try to interrupt or question Thompson's response.
Looks to me like you responded with a prejudiced slant because you think it somehow "proves" your opinion of Wallace.
Actually...
December 30, 2007 - 20:25 ET by John StephensonActually I can see your view point as well. I don't really have an opinion about Wallace, so it isn't biased or slanted.
Hi John. I didn't think you were biased or slanted
December 30, 2007 - 20:30 ET by RJThose particular words were directed at Lame Cherry's anti-Wallace post, which is why I responded to him directly.
However, I included you in the title because it seemed you had also misread events.
Wallace was better...
December 30, 2007 - 22:20 ET by Clear thinkerMike treated Fred better than the last go-round, but not by a whole lot.
After finding out that one of Fox's producers left Fox to work for Fred's campaign, then got fired by Fred, then got rehired by Fox, it's easy to see why there is an anti-Fred contingent that works at Fox. Plus you have to keep in mind that Roger Ailes and Rudy are very close friends.
Fox may be a little better at fair and balanced reporting than the other networks, but there is an obvious bias when it comes to candidates both Dem and Republican.
I will give them one thing though, at least they had Fred on 4 days prior to the Iowa caucus.
Rush Limbaugh stated that of the top 5 Republicans running for the presidency, only one was a true conservative. http://www.fred08.com/
As a once avid Fox viewer
December 30, 2007 - 23:49 ET by Captain RepusAs a once avid Fox viewer and supporter I find myself becoming increasingly disappointed in the network. OReilly is on vacation most of the time and spends far too much time on trivial and/or sexual subjects instead of todays important issues.
Geraldo belongs on a supermarket tabloid shelf, Smith drives me up a wall with his weird looks and scary liberal presentation.
Hannity has become repetitive and over-exposed, Colmes constantly talks over conservative guests to the extent you can't even hear their point and tries to excuse every dem miss-step by finding a republican who did something similar sometime in the past.
Gretta the crime fighter and staff of stooge ambulance chasers haven't been right on a single legal issue ever.
Humn and Cavoto are good, Gibson is boring. The morning and weekend news readers are no better than average.
If it wasn't for the Fox staff of boobs-and-legs bimbos I wouldn't bother watching any more.
I gave up on FNC over a year ago
December 30, 2007 - 23:56 ET by RJ....the entire network has turned into a low-brow tabloid operation. I'd rather get my news from the internet.
Funny you say that, I've
December 31, 2007 - 11:16 ET by NortonPeteFunny you say that, I've noticed a nearly perfect one for one with what Fox reports and Drudgereport. Only Fox is late and has less content.

Speaking of Fox News
December 30, 2007 - 23:01 ET by JerSpeaking of Fox News Sunday, the award for the "please... I'm still eating breakfast" word picture of the morning goes to Brit Hume for his prediction that if Hillary wins Iowa she will have "a huge leg up" going into New Hampshire".

December 31, 2007 - 00:22 ET by JerI find it hard to believe the network of Edward R. Murrow has regressed to Katie Couric. I have yet to watch one single second of her "news"casts, and don't intend to.

From what I've seen, Fox is
December 31, 2007 - 02:54 ET by jpm100From what I've seen, Fox is pulling for Rudy. I think this is partly just random bias from some of the staff, direction from above, and the fact he was Mayor of New York the home of Fox News. Some probably feel as if they know Rudy really well and they're pulling for the Devil they Know.
As was said before, Fox in general has become too Tabloidish and I think part of the problem is that Fox has been politically Reactive. They only respond to issues raised by Liberals and they never raise issues themselves from a conservative or even moderate position. Since Blogs do that already, more quickly and thoroughly, anyone reading this doesn't need Fox for the Conservative Reaction to Liberal attacks.
}}---> I must've missed it
December 31, 2007 - 05:34 ET by Cool ArrowMy take on Wallace introducing this quote was an invitation to Fred to correct what was being flung by the MSM via cherry picking. Maybe because I was already aware of said cherry picking.
I saw no intent on Wallace's part to truncate Fred's statement for purposes of misleading the American public.
I still believe Wallace is the most fair, most intellectual, most keen, interviewer of this era.
No bias here. Nothing but good reporting.

Watch Fred's 17 minutes of great conservative talk
December 31, 2007 - 11:40 ET by Jack BauerIn case you missed it, Fred Thompson has a 17 minute, virtually extemporaneous, from the heart chat on the internet to Iowans.
KSFO Talk radio has just played the whole piece uniterrupted.
Melanie Morgan has posted it on her websire www.melaniemorgan.co....
I urge all NB conservatives to watch it.. it's exceptionally good, and I thought, highly inspirational, for everyone of the conservative persuasion
