Take a look here for another example of the media's Fred Thompson-is-lazy meme. Without much else to criticize about him, many are taking his slow approach to announce and anything else they can to label him as lazy, such as using a golf cart instead of walking at the fair. Notice how it is pointed out that he is the "only presidential candidate" to do this. Do these petty things really matter?
I think going after the designer shoes was a definite cheap shot. You tell me, do the shoes make the man? Is this Fox News Channel's idea of "fair and balanced?"

Sat, 08/18/2007 - 16:21 ET by motherbeltSo who told them the shoes were Gucci??? I would have looked at them and just thought "nice shoes." They are not like the designer handbags that have initials all over them. But apparently the newsfolks are all "up" on the latest designer fashions.
Talk about a double standard: the MSM speak admiringly of Her Speakerness Pelosi's Armani suits, but disparage Thompson's designer shoes.

Did he drive the cart or have a driver that was a minority race of one sort or another? Gee it's tough to make everyone happy, yes?
Love to walk in Fred's Shoes
Sat, 08/18/2007 - 18:30 ET by Lame CherryIf Fred Thompson is lazy, give me his kind of lazy.
I would love to in God's grace be strong enough to have built a life after a failed marriage, married an intelligent, successful and beautiful woman with now two children, have a great political and acting career, sound God given Wisdom and now be looked upon by Mike Deaver (God rest his soul today) as the heir to Ronald Reagan's Conservative Revolution.
I would love to walk in Fred Thompson's lazy shoes as I don't think I could handle his shoes if he was a go getter........Ask yourself there is more pretty than his wife? More better than his renewed life? More better than 2 perfect kids? More better than being looked at as the heir of Reagan?
I think Jesus only trumps Fred on having the Church as His wife, all of us His children, being eternal Life and heir to God..........so I think Fred is doing ok being lazy. If only all could be so lazy.
God bless him and his family in His Name. Amen

Fox News is starting to yaw lefward in it's coverage, and has been for some time now. That, along with the "tabloidish" style they have cultivated has been a real turn-off to me. I really do not watch TV news anymore.
Besides, Fox and Friends is a terrible show.

Sat, 08/18/2007 - 18:47 ET by c5thenFred Thompson is the ONLY intelligent candidate there for two reasons...
1. he is using a golf cart to get aroung the iowa fair so he can get more places faster.
2. He is running in close second place in the polls without having yet declared his candidacy and therefore spending almost no money.

Sat, 08/18/2007 - 19:11 ET by stratmanI give Fred points for remaining true to himself.
As you said Blonde, comfortable shoe's are paramount, even if you ride a golfcart. I'll bet he didn't rush out and buy those shoes right before the Fair in order to appear as one of the "common people". I recall a buffoon named Kerry and his spiffy new hunting duds, including him "getting me one of them hunting licenses" (paraphrased) while prostituting for votes.
While I don't consider Fred a metrosexual for wearing those shoes, I do consider the guy that recognized the shoe's as Gucci a John Edwards-loving metrosexual. Any guy that points out another guy's wearing Gucci shoes in a political piece is just plain strange.
Killing them with kindness isn't working. Time to get scrappy with the Donkeys.
Well, I look at it this way...
Sat, 08/18/2007 - 19:29 ET by c5thenAny guy who notices another guys shoes is either strange, or possibly not heterosexual. Any guy who can tell from a distance that a particular pair of shoes are a particualr maker has removed all doubt.

Fred Thompson
Sat, 08/18/2007 - 23:43 ET by shawn228Fred Thompson is the spark the GOP needs right now. Regardless of conservatives feelings for Liberals, the Liberal agenda could be a reality. Withdrawal from Iraq, higher taxes, drivers licences and legal status for illegals....etc.
IMO they are in the drivers seat when it comes to congress. The 34 senate seats that up for election next year are mostly republican. The Liberals are also raising far more money than their GOP counterparts.
The chances of the GOP taking back congress in 08 is grim. A GOP president is their best hope in 08. Here is a article from the NYT. IMO it is not a very biased article, there are no cheap shots, it is cold hard reality of what Republicans have to deal with in 08.

Sun, 08/19/2007 - 03:30 ET by well99This may be a silly thought but it could be he has knee problems or ankle. It could be he has rheumtoid arthritis or something. Not that it matters if he wants to take a cart who cares. That is his buisness.
Fred is the wrong candidate for the GOP
Sun, 08/19/2007 - 08:11 ET by PopularTechFred's popularity must be due to his TV Show because I don't understand what he has done that makes people so excited. Don't get me wrong I do not dislike him, I just do not think he is the best choice.
First of all he is weak on immigration, weaker than Romney, Hunter, obviously Tancredo and *gasp* even Ron Paul.
Second he does not appeal to many women the way Romney (looks) or Giuliani (personality) do. His younger wife looks like a trophy wife to many women and it just will not sell.
This may not seem important but the female vote is going to be critical against Hillary and immigration is too important an issue for me.

Sun, 08/19/2007 - 08:23 ET by sarcasmoI clicked on the Ron Paul page you provided, and it appears Dr. Paul has managed to get a different grade from Tancredo's despite what seem from the page to be the exact-same positions/votes. What am I missing? Do I need to dig deeper? There's certainly not any agenda involved here, because we all know antilibertarian bias simply doesn't exist, so I'm curious about the alternative explanation! ;) Here's what he said in 2005.

The Anti "Man-Made" Global Warming Resource
I looked, and...
Sun, 08/19/2007 - 08:47 ET by sarcasmoThe problem seemed to be "other rewards," which wasn't adequately defined to let me see what individual votes they objected-to, but I'll venture a guess... IMO it's not about what Barbara Jordan said at all, and instead it's because Ron does NOT think an unAmerican, Orwellian, national ID card will be effective at keeping illegals out of this country. Various control-freaks are salivating for a national ID card and will jump at any excuse to get one, ignoring that inconvenient old Constitution-thing they all swear to uphold but seemingly only one of 'em reads. Ya gotta admit, a look at that page where they seem to be doing the same things but getting different grades, from my point of view, is amusing. :)
Having said that I happen to like Tom Tancredo as much as the news media hates him, and I think Tom means well even if I do disagree with him on a few policies. I especially admire Tom's refreshing courage compared to the RINO candidates when it comes to willingness to debate all other Republican candidates, but perhaps that courage to debate comes naturally with the underdog-territory in politics. Still, it's appreciated.
