Confessed Child Rapist Roman Polanski May Finally Face American Justice

  • Bookmark and Share

Nothing mitigates director Roman Polanski’s unspeakable crime. Certainly Polanski has dealt with personal tragedy on a scale few of us can understand, but that’s not a license to drug, rape and sodomize a 13 year-old girl. Nor is perceived misconduct on the part of the trial judge, nor is the forgiveness of the victim (who reached an out-of-court settlement with Polanski).

And this may come as a surprise to some in Hollywood, but helming a few cinematic masterpieces doesn’t turn someone who anally raped a child into some kind of tragic hero… In all the revisionist history, the simple fact that Polanski plead guilty to “unlawful sex with an underage girl” is seldom mentioned at the top of the special brand of rationalizations extended to our celebrity class.

Well, finally, after 32 years, justice may be done. At the request of the U.S., the Swiss nabbed the 76 year-old fugitive and may extradite:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Director Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss police as he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival and faces possible extradition to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Sunday.

Polanski was scheduled to receive an honorary award at the festival when he was apprehended Saturday at the airport, the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement. It said U.S. authorities have sought the arrest of the 76-year-old director around the world since 2005.

“There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming,” ministry spokesman Guido Balmer told The Associated Press. “That’s why he was taken into custody.”

Polanski, the director of such classic films as “Chinatown,”  “Rosemary’s Baby,” fled the U.S. in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with the underage girl.

If only some on the Hollywood Left were as outraged by a confessed chid rapist as they are by everyday Americans.

John: Thus far, the media

John: Thus far, the media is treating Polanski with way too much defference for my taste. It will be interesting to see how this is covered over the next few days. As I said on another thread, the elite media has a penchant for treating the behavior of such "artistes" as if what most reasonable people consider criminal is simply an "alternative" lifestyle.

Doubtful

Flasback to many years ago, when I received a 30 "Vacation" for "assisting" in a molester's dental work. This Puke deserves a pink jumpsuit in LA county. My fear tho, is that his many pals in the film industry will get him off as a victim. NO ONE will confront the issue of what kind of warped mind it requires to do what this slimeball did.

since when?

The liberal left worships any sex act, regardless of whom it is perpetrated on. We have a president, lying under oath, and their excuse is 'it's just sex'. We have a senator running a prostitution ring out of his basement and nobody cares. We have countless 'affairs' and most look the other way because its sexual behavior. We have a major push to legitamize homosex and push it as 'mainstream'. We have companies trying to get more homosex in corporations (www.boycottpepsico.c...). So why is this any different?

sympathy for the perp

Typical liberal protection for the perpetrator. Blame society not the creep. I read this morning that critics are complaining about the statute of limitations. Really sad that most people do not care that a sexual assault of a child traumatizes that child for the rest of their lives. As long as the victim suffers so should the perpetrator.

Polanski and Banks?

Some folks out there wondering if the Polanski arrest is part of a deal with the US, –we'll give you Polanski if you back off our banks. With the Swiss it's all about money and you know they would do it.

This guy was never my cup of tea

and as I understand it, the woman, who was then a girl, did not want him prosecuted then and does not want him prosecuted now.

Has he raped again?

I don't get the facination? The only thing he is known for other than this topic, was his his marriage to Sharon Tate who died at the hands of Charlie Manson's crew.

Let this scum bucket stay in Europe and let the taxpayers of California have some relief.

Only?

He also did a couple of iconic movies, such as Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby....And there was more to this story, as I recall-- the girl's mother was on the scene and the girl also did not "look" 13. I suppose none of this exonerates him, but if he hadn't fled, would not a statute of limitation cut in? I was attacked and after 3 yrs, DC under its statute could not have prosecuted my attackers.

I don't think the statute of limitations counts....

...once you have been indicted. Can you flee just to wait out a statute of limitations?

Also, yea, she did not look 13. Prolly looked 14 or 15. Right, not buying that arguement at all.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

You could rent one of the docs on this

A couple of hours-long docs have been made on this crime--you could check out the thing for yourself. And as an assault survivor, I could see the woman's point about not wanting to dredge it again. Guess her feelings don't count.

ONLY?

YES!

Like I said "only" Sharon Tate brought him fame. The other movies were awful (my humble opinion) and he went to court, pled guilty to having sex with a minor, and then fled the country.

I don't care what they do with him but I don't need to hear about it or pay for it. Let him rot somewhere else.

It doesn't matter how she looked

"And there was more to this story, as I recall-- the girl's mother was on the scene and the girl also did not "look" 13."

It doesn't matter if she looked 30, and was actually 40....secretly drugging someone, and then having sex with them against their will is against the law.

"but if he hadn't fled, would not a statute of limitation cut in?"

Different states have different statutes...however, he had already plead guilty. Don't think there is a statute of limitations on the penalty phase. If he hadn't fled, he would have gone to prison....that's why he ran.

"I could see the woman's point about not wanting to dredge it again. Guess her feelings don't count."

No, her feelings don't count. We don't let criminals get away with crimes simply because their victims are ok with it. If we did, wife beaters would never get prosecuted.

The Left also has

The Left also has difficulty seeing a sex act as abberant. That's part of why they're so okay with Planned Parenthood's routine coverups of statutory rape, and why they're not outraged that ACORN was coaching a pimp on how to import teenage sex slaves. To them, sex is just another bodily function, and to point out that what Polanski did is rape makes no more sense to them than saying that somebody made Michael Moore eat a donut. They just don't get it.

(Although, strangely enough, "sexual harassment" is real to them. Somehow it's a greater crime to tell a woman her hair looks nice than it is to drug and sodomize a teenager.)

The Left also has difficulty

The Left also has difficulty seeing a sex act as abberant.

Really?  Just the left?  Because it seems to me that Republicans like molesting and having sex with children as much as liberals do.  Creepy is creepy, rape is rape, and it's not a party issue.

Jeffrey Kyle Randall, Republican Mayor of Clarkfield, Minnesota, was sentenced to 275 days in jail for molesting two boys--ages ten and 12--during a six-year period

John Bryan, Republican city councilman, killed himself after police began investigating allegations that he had molested three girls, including two of his adopted daughters, ages 12 and 15

Keola Childs, Republican County Councilman, pleaded guilty to sexual assault in the first degree for molesting a male child

Earl Kimmerling, sentenced to 40 years in prison after he confessed to molesting an 8-year old girl after he attempted to stop a gay couple from adopting her

Donald "Buzz" Lukens, Republican Congressman from Ohio, was found guilty of having sex with a minor - a girl he was accused of sleeping with since she was 13

I think you misunderstood GG42.

Crime knows no ideology. Conservatives do not defend or diminish the crimes of anyone, left or right. That is the realm of the left.

Hi. My name is John Q. Public, but some just call me racist.

BS

It's just convenient to blame everything on the left, especially when it comes to sexual morality.  I'm not surprised by it, but it's a rather deceptive statement.

xoxo - Ted

ILTK

Read what Karma wrote again. Karma wasn't writing about morality, but about law and order and the equality of responsibilities of all people.

That was the realm (of the left) she was referring to.

Really Ted?

Here's a little statement about the left and sexual morality:

In May 2002, Polanski won the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) award at the Cannes Film Festival for The Pianist, for which he also took Césars for Best Film and Best Director, and later won the 2002 Academy Award for Directing. He did not attend the Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood because he would have been arrested once he set foot in the United States. After the announcement of the "Best Director Award", Polanski received a standing ovation from most of those present in the theater. In 2004, he received the Crystal Globe award for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

And yeah, it's from Wiki....but it proves my point that the Hollywood crowd, which, as you know, is a steaming cesspool of liberals, apparently loves a convicted rapist to the point they gave him a standing ovation.

Disgusting.

I hope he fails, too.

First off, as you know B,

First off, as you know B, I'm a Hollywood liberal.  I also think Polanski is a piece of sh!t and should go to jail for a very long time.

That being said, my argument is against the statement that is the belief that liberals think it's acceptable to allow sexual deviancy.  Of course, we all know it's a fallacy to blame just liberals for excusing the extramarital escapades of members of their own party.  Just take a look at the C Street House, who allowed numerous members to have extramarital affairs while staying at the house.

xoxo - Ted

OK Ted

Did the statement say ALL liberals?

Does it change the sentiment if it said MANY or MOST liberals?

Because in reading that charming sentence from the Wiki cite, it says "most" in the audience gave the sexual deviant a standing O.   De Facto approval....when instead they should have turned their backs.  It would be interesting to see who DIDN'T participate in this little Hollywood freak show.

And besides, extramarital escapades are a totally different thing than drugging and raping a thirteen year old.

I hope he fails, too.

You know how much I hate

You know how much I hate Wiki, right?  Even Newsbusters posted that article several months back as to the unreliability of Wikipedia. That being said, you're forgiven ; ) (Only because I know Tim had a bad weekend, and I assume therefore, you did as well)

However, I still must ask who was in that audience.  Hollywood is not made up only of liberals, and it's guaranteed that a whole bunch of conservatives were at that same event, and cheered for this pedophile as loud as anyone else there.

xoxo - Ted

"...and it's guaranteed

"...and it's guaranteed that a whole bunch of conservatives were at that same event, and cheered for this pedophile as loud as anyone else there."

Really? You guarantee that a "whole bunch" were at that event? Why/how the guarantee?

And whoever might have been there were wrong, if they cheered. If you were cheering, YOU are also wrong.

Oh I hate Wiki,too

But for something pedestrian like looking up movies & awards, it's easy peasy and has much more info than IMDB.  For something more important (like Obama's Afghanistan policy, say)....I'd not link to wiki, ever.

I kind of remembered the incident, too....because I remembered being disgusted at the time when the crowd cheered his win (he shouldn't have even been nominated, IMO).  Since you're there, maybe you can find out or get a tape of the Oscar ceremony that year and let us know.

As for Timmy....I learned a good one over on the Gator boards (wait for it):

That it's convenient is pointless. The left accuses a republican who commits a sexual crime as being a hypocrite. The right accuses that same republican as being a criminal who should be dealt with harshly. Where is the deception?

Hi. My name is John Q. Public, but some just call me racist.

Where's the deception?

Where's the deception?  Just look at the differences in comments on this site alone between Mark Foley's affair and say, Bill Clinton.  Rarely is there a Clinton article where someone doesn't still mention his affair, but when Foley's affair was discovered, the NB outrage was minimal  In fact, most of the articles on the site blamed media attention more than the affair itself.

xoxo - Ted

I would submit that the

I would submit that the outrage over Foley was not minimal. You seem to be saying that the perceived lack of written outrage by conservatives at NB is tantamount to a wink and a nod. I would suggest, this being a conservative site, that most here pretty well knew the feelings of the other members and simply decided not to keep repeating what others already felt; that Foley should leave in disgrace.  As far as Clinton goes, the outrage was amplified by the MSM's assertion that he was still a great leader and his indiscretions were a strictly personal matter and not anyone's business but his own. This speaks to liberal media bias which this site is kinda all about don't you know.

Hi. My name is John Q. Public, but some just call me racist.

Okay everyone, I must

Foley resigned his position. Bill Clinton did not. Most people didn't even know who Mark Foley was until the scandal broke. Bill Clinton - the POTUS - was front and center shaking his finger at the camera and lying through his teeth about his affair.

I would also want to recall what else was going on in DC at the time of the Foley scandal. Was there need for a media diversion?

Fine.  Go ahead and

Fine.  Go ahead and change the Republican target for your fruitless moral equivalency argument.  Notwithstanding the fact that one was President of the United States (and, thus accountable to all Americans) while the other is the Governor of South Carolina (and, thus, only accountable to his constituents in South Carolina), your "hypocrisy" claim has a fatal flaw: Clinton's success in circumventing the law and getting away with it established the slippery slope.  Unless a Republican does something significantly worse than Slick Willie did, we're under no obligation to hold him to account...otherwise, that would be hypocritical.  In other words, I am not a hypocrite for failing to demand punishment for Sanford in light of what happened to Clinton...you're a hypocrite for expecting me to demand punishment for Sanford when you demanded no such thing for Clinton.

This isn't about sexual

This isn't about sexual morality.  This is about an admitted sex criminal fleeing justice, living abroad and posing as some kind of victim.  It is also about a community of self-described "artists", many of whom are/were American, effectively endorsing his criminal activity by going out of their ways to work with him...and lecturing those who find it reprehensible.

Nice try.  You highlight a

Nice try.  You highlight a line from a previous post, and instead of addressing that line directly, you create a knowingly dishonest diversion by parading a list of nobodies involved in sex crimes in a weak attempt at moral equivalency.  Hollywood and many on the left tolerate entitled egomaniacs like Roman Polanski because they value what they perceive to be high art and culture over the rights of "common" individuals.  The contortions that Hollywood and many in the press have gone through to defend this creep (and paint him as the victim) are nothing short of disgraceful.  When he skipped justice and became a fugitive, his crime superceded the original victim...in effect, he's committed a crime against the State of California and the United States of America to the extent that failure to carry out appropriate punishment establishes the slippery slope by which all pedophile rapists may feel entitled to flee justice.  Based on your pseudonym and the character you've exhibited on this site, I can comfortably conclude that you have no problem with sexual deviants who simply peddle influence to maintain an unearned, lofty status.  So don't worry, Alinsky, Jr. will probably pardon the scumbag, cynically using the victim's desire to "move on" as his lame justification.

If he hadn't fled

He would have spent maybe a year in a minimum security prison with several years suspended/probation/parole somewhere and would have been out on good behavior before he even knew it. He fled justice that is the crime here. He pled guilty to a sex offense. He fled sentencing for his crime. There is no mitigation here he fled justice pure and simple. The crime really is irrelevant here. This would have been way way behind him, no pun intended, and of course he would have been welcomed back into the film community. This Does Seem A Little Suspiscious...

You want to know what I think? I think if it were any other famous Hollywood director, say a Steven Spielberg or a Martin Scorsese or a Brian DePalma, I would say, "lock  em up and throw away the key." Roman Polanski, however, is a rather curious matter because of many bizarre factors involving his case:

Step 1.)  I've concluded that Polanski was mentally unstable at the time he committed the deed of child rape, an instability that was triggered by the domino effect of Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins brutally murdering his pregnant wife Sharon Tate (I don't want to get into this unborn baby being murdered business because this is a different argument.) Oddly enough, the timing of his arrest seems too convenient, as that Manson follower Atkins died in prison just two-to-three days before the arrest. Call me a tinfoil-hat wearer, but I smell a conspiracy here.

Step 2.) I know a little more about this judge that had a personal vendetta against Polanski than you think. That's because my father was sentenced to three years in prison by this same judge once on the count of attempted armed robbery (meaning he never harmed anyone, which is definitely a good thing, but he still did time in his youth in state prison.) I think that was a little excessive if I do say so myself. Apparently, this judge decided to renege on Polanski's prior plea agreements and that's what caused Polanski to flee the country even after doing 42 days in prison.

3.) This seems to be another symptom of that stupid Jessica's Law that was passed by 70% of the moronic public in California (I was part of the 30% of smart people that saw through the loopholes and headaches and bankruptcy this law was going to incur on us in California.) I find it abhorrent to waste the tax payer's time and dime on non-issues like so-called child predators and sex offenders because there is no evidence that a widespread predator epidemic exists.  There is plenty of evidence, however, that these laws are actually endangering our kids in ways the writers of these laws didn't have the precognition to sense. Even children who engage in that stupid sexting craze are eligible to be prosecuted as child pornographers and registered as sex-offenders with those shoddy ankle bracelets that are bankrupting California. We can't afford it because it doesn't exist.

So as far as I'm concerned, since Polanski did 42 days of time, pleaded guilty on one of the charges, and that his victim is willing to forgive him, the worst I think he should suffer is a massive fine and pawning his directing Oscar in order to pay for that fine. But that's just me.

Whackjob alert! Whoop. Whoop. Whoop. Whackjob alert!

7sticks claims his mom died in prison because I took away her medicine. (Well, that is true, I had a sick racoon under my house that I felt needed the medicine more)

Now we hear is dad is an excon too? Tick Tock. Tick Tock. Crazy is coming to town.

Step 1.) Your conclusion as

Step 1.) Your conclusion as to Polanski's state of mind is irrelevant.  The fact that his wife and unborn child (but in defending him, you were careful to avoid crediting him with too much loss in mitigation...never concede that someone might sense personal loss of an unborn child, for it might weaken the already morally shaky pro-abort position) were murdered almost EIGHT years before this incident...and 9 before he skipped bail...does not give him a free pass to drug and sodomize a 13-year-old.

Step 2.) Your alleged connection to this judge is anecdotal and, once again, irrelevant.  And, please, explain to me how a judge "reneges" on a plea agreement.  Prosecution and defense can enter into a plea agreeement, but as far as I know, the judge must consult the law before determining whether or not to sanction the agreement.  If the plea agreement is deemed insufficient to the interests of justice, the judge reserves the right to reject the agreement and demand a more equitable agreement or a trial.

Step 3.) So you deem Jessica's Law and those who favored it to be "moronic".  Care to offer any support for your position or are you simply content to trot out a handful of baseless platitudes to speak for themselves (to the extent that they can)?  Where is your evidence that Jessica's Law is a "waste of tax payer's time and dime"?  Where is your proof that children "sexting" are subject to registering as sex offenders?

And get something else straight: as soon as Roman Polanski became a fugitive from justice, the 13-year-old ceased being the sole victim.  He has to answer to the jurisdiction from which he fled...he has committed a crime against the citizens of that jurisdiction.  The girl, for whatever her motivations, is perfectly within her rights to forgive the man, but hers is not the last word.
