You almost need a flak jacket to go on an MSNBC show these days - at least judging by the rapid fire attacks displayed on the March 2 "The Dylan Ratigan Show."
Either host Dylan Ratigan was trying to play to MSNBC's rabid liberal audience or he really has it in for the Tea Party movement based on some exaggerated notion it is nothing but hate and fear mongers. In an interview with Mark Williams, a conservative talk radio host and sometimes spokesman for the Tea Party Express, Ratigan asked Williams what he was doing to separate his legitimate effort from radical fringe elements in American political culture.
"Mark, how do you draw the bright line between the very admirable and understandable principles that are advocated by so many in the Tea Party as it pertains to a Constitutional definition of a democracy, separation of things like banking and investing, church and - I mean, you go to all these things, and those who would choose a more radicalized view or racist view and hide, if you will, inside of the Tea Party umbrella?" Ratigan said.
"Well, that's real simple," Williams replied. "There's wing-nuts and normal people."
But that wasn't good enough for Ratigan, who went on a tirade about how Williams should be more forceful in denouncing people who say they want to "kill blacks and Jews," as if they're an every day element of the national Tea Party movement.
"It's not that simple because when wing-nuts go to other political organizations and say, ‘I want to kill black people, I want to kill Jews,' whatever it may be, the organizer, for instance, if I was holding a Dylan Ratigan event and a bunch of people held up signs saying they wanted to kill blacks and Jews, I would say, ‘Would you kindly remove yourself, I don't accept people who follow me who are into killing blacks and Jews and women or whatever it may be,'" Ratigan said. "What confuses me about the Tea Party if the Tea Party's willingness to accept the wing-nuts without defining more crisply what the Tea Party's agenda is relative to those who just want to kill black people, for instance."
A slightly befuddled Williams asked Ratigan if he was accountable for crazy people.
"So that's our fault they're nuts?" Williams replied.
That set Ratigan off again and he reiterated the notion that fringe elements are welcome in the tea party movement.
"You shame them, Mark," Ratigan said. "It is your fault that unlike the Democrats or the Republicans or any other political group - so you're saying you accept racists and Nazis, is that what you're saying? Do you accept them in the Tea Party?"
The stalemate ended with Williams walking off the set, but not without some angry parting shots from Ratigan - accusing him of trying to use his show as a vehicle for propaganda.
"Do you have any intention of answering any of my questions," Ratigan said. "Let me ask you a question, Mark because I don't want to continue with this. You're wasting valuable oxygen. Can we please cut off this man's microphone? He has no interest in answering any of my questions. Mark, a pleasure - actually not really a pleasure. It was offensive. You're offensive. Your treatment of my show as a vehicle to spread your propaganda, ignore my questions, offensive. And an indication of what is wrong with the dialogue in this country, period. Not to mention a group that would accept Nazis and racists."

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 18:55 ET by mostlymoderateWow, I just saw this. This is what liberals of the MSNBC 'caliber' do these days; they throw around symbolic statements like "jew killer, racist, nazi, anti-semite, teabagger, slave-owner, lyching, homo-phobe etc." That's all they do, ever. They never support their assertions with facts. If this was ever done in a courtroom these fools would be cited for contempt and possibly disbarred. Thank god I am a lawyer and do not have to deal with unsubstantiated drivel all day in my profession.

I am disappointed though that this talk show host didn't hand him his head on a platter.
First I would have asked him to substantiate the wildly manufactured claims of the media that the tea party is a 'mainly racist movement' as you see written on Huffington and other wackjob websites.
These people themselves are guilty of racism because all you hear is that the tea party is white this and white that.

Wed, 03/03/2010 - 08:39 ET by theduck6Tea Party is a movement of many political ideas united on smaller government and closer adherence to the Constitution. Any effort to paint all with the same brush of a small fringe element who happened to show up at a rally is misleading in the least and downright duplicitous at worse. No ID card was necessary to join the group. Just show up and voice your opinion.
Went to the rally in the rain in Lafayette Park and then the 9/12 March to the Capitol and a more calm, reasoned, amiable to all gaggle you will never see. The grounds were pristine after the crowds were gone (unlike the inauguration throng) and I think minimal if any arrests were made. The crowds followed police direction to the letter and immediately. What a militant rabble, eh?
This is a liberal tactic right out of the playbook.
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:02 ET by motherbeltThey step all over the other guy while he's talking, and then claim that he won't answer the question.
Another tactic is to try to force the guest to answer for, and denounce every stupid comment made by every idiot on their side, everywhere.
They never do this with other liberals. They never demand that they denounce or repudiate some stupid claim or accusation that Keith Olbermann or Janeane Garofalo says on national television, but they pillory a conservative for not seeking out and ousting every loony at a Tea Party event.
BTW, Dylan, where were you when liberals were showing up to antiwar events with "kill Bush" and "bomb the White House" signs?
Yes
Thu, 03/04/2010 - 01:50 ET by NewHampshireI'm still waiting for them to denounce the two guys who stood at the polls and wouldn't let white people vote!

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 20:11 ET by SlyrrFrom the 5th Harry Potter book, the character Dolores Umbridge was telling. And at the moment, the USA is stuffed with Umbridges in the liberal media and the Democrat party.
People who everyone knows are lying, and are liars. Yet they're in positions of authority, and so we have to actually put up with, and in some cases listen to their drivel and idiocy.
Because of decorum and protocol, we have to actually treat the looney left seriously - when what they really need is for someone to grab them by the ear, drag them out of the Oval Office and throw them bodily down the stairs after a swift kick in the rear. Same goes for Ratboy, Matthews, Olberdork and all these other Umbridges at BS-NBC.

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 19:43 ET by BeukeboomI really think it's getting worse as a reaction of the faltering Obama administration. They are desperate to prop up "dear leader" any way they can but have run out or are running out of ideas that sound convincing to even the left. So they end up what liberals normally do when out of ideas...attack conservatives and conservatism. Doesn't matter if the attack has any base in reality and fact; just attack. It's a classic red herring strategy they've been doing for decades. It's just growing more desperate currently and will grow even more extreme in upcoming months especially closer to the 2010 elections. Just wait and see.

We need more like Mark Williams to do this...especially on Mr. Ed, Tingles, Olbie's shows as well, Contessa is just a hopeless cause.
The arrogance of msnbc is going to do them in with their blatant looney leftist agenda.

Look, I live in the West Side of LA. Even worse know several leftie biggies from the Boston area. Calling for conservatives to be killed, murdered, executed, hanged or otherwise mistreated comes easily and naturally to the leftie wing nuts out there - in person, and on-line; even when it's the president of the United States that is on the receiving end of the signs, slogans, etc.
Now. Did not the Supreme Court rule some years back that states could not refuse the KKK from participating in the Adopt a Highway program?
Isn't there 9 (recently admitted by Holder) attorney's at the USDOJ, who have served as legal counsel for terrorists that have called for the killing of all Jews (and I suppose any blacks who were not Muslim)?
While I've seen a few shots of some rather tasteless signs at some of the events (the MSM was front and center in making sure of that) I don't recall any that just came out and said what Ratigan is saying: "kill blacks and Jews."
An apology from Ratigan should not be requested, nor should it be accepted; rather he simply needs to be fired - on the spot.

The Comcast deal is still undergoing review
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:29 ET by falcon...but at some point Comcast will own 51% of the Peacock network. Once that happens, will we see any change? My opinion - doubtful, even though the ratings are in the toilet and headed for the waste pipe. No doubt if some of the MSNBC anchors are fired, they'll file a lawsuit against Comcast. The company may be getting its ducks in a row for just such an eventuality, because although I don't personally think there'll be much change, if it does happen the leftist loonies will head for their attorney in a heartbeat (probably already has him/her on speed dial).
Not to mention the possibility of slander lawsuits that Comcast may have to settle as NBC's new owner. I don't know that any have been filed, but if it were me I'd tie these morons up in court until they couldn't breathe. And I'm sure Comcast doesn't want that.

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 20:22 ET by shannon76I thought Mr. Williams did a great job of turning things back on Ratigan with the analogy to the local NBC anchor. He answered Ratigan, and then Ratigan went unhinged. Nice job to Mr. Williams.
There's a certain point where shows in the MSM need to be starved of conservative commentators to the point of absurdity (and the Rachel Maddow and Olbermann show are great examples).
OR...conservatives/independents/Tea Party folks will have to fight back. Because recklessly throwing around the racism charges as if it's established fact is starting to get a pinch annoying. I defy Ratigan or anyone else to show the offensive signs (in the context of thousands of signs) and show the instances where fringe types and racists have been thrown out.
Again, if there are 5 bad signs out of 100,000, then be honest enough to say that 0.005% of the signs at the big Tea Party march in DC were offensive. Or if it's 10 or 20 or however many. Put it in some kind of context. And stop this illegitimate argument of reading racism in people's soul through some ouiji board insight.

Not my tea party
Tue, 03/02/2010 - 22:18 ET by cajun2I attended a tea party meeting this past weekend. The Acadiana Tea Party is planning a protest on April 15th in Lafayette La. Much of the discussion at the meeting was our efforts needed to overcome the media lies and vitriol exactly as stated in several of the NB threads today.
Repeated calls were made for civility, no offensive signs, polite and respectful to the police, welcome visitors and other patriots. It is not our intent to give the "useful idiot network" any ammunition to continue their barrage against ordinary Americans. There were teachers, Dr.'s, grandparents, ex military and even a couple of lawyers present, oh, and one ex social worker. There were several college students who volunteered to help the techi disabled seniors to get our message out.
On April 15th, we need to have protests across the country even though it a work day for many. The fringe media was stunned and silent after 9-12. We must overwhelm them again. We must let them know that they are the "fringe" spreading fear and lies. Ordinary average hardworking Americans are not the enemy, but we have exposed the enemy. We need to show up en masse in order to give courage and support to those who will be fighting for us in November.
Sign up at your local tea party. Be there on April 15th. They will not be able to ignore us again.
Beware this tack of being on the defensive
Tue, 03/02/2010 - 23:26 ET by carolina09It only takes one nut or plant--and it's easy for these guys to find one nut or a plant. So start out with a strategy of refusing to go on the defensive. Listen to Breitbart--never go on the defense. Do not buy into their narrative.
So, what can you do? Role-play. Somebody play Ratigan and somebody play the tea partier.
"We assemble in public places, anyone can come. We don't like you, Ratigan, but you can come and hold any sign you want."
"I don't know that guy with the sign. Most of us don't know each other."
"Should we assault people with signs we don't like?" (public place)
Refuse to apologize! Refuse to "denounce"! When they insist, just stare at them. "I don't know him. I'm not responsible for him."
I encountered a FEMA-conspiracy nut at a party. I just edged away from him.
You can't keep the nuts away, you can't keep the plants away. Develop ways of staying off the defensive.
Go watch the Breitbart videos at CPAC.

Racism
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:06 ET by SilverFoxSilverFox
The only overt racism I seen in Ameria are by minorities. Last week a minority left a hangman's noose in the library & the liberal/Left students went wild only to find out it was a minority female student who left it in the library. "She forget" that she "hanged" in on a chair when she left. I have read about racism in the Baltimore fire department & the Columbia University professor who found a hangman's noose on her door only to find out it was her that did it.
Liberals won't put these examples in the mainstream media.

The Radical Progressives are on the war path
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 09:31 ET by c5thenThey are out to demonize and discredit the Tea Party movement any way they can even if they have to make up crazy scenarios and then pretend that they are true, like Ratigan.
The Progressives have no argument that can stand against the return to the Constitution and founding principles that the Tea Parties advocate. They are relegated to trying to demonize individuals and trying to paint the movement with their racist brush that they have made up.
You didn't see these quasi-journalists getting all rabid about the wing-nuts in the Move-On demonstrations or the Code Pink demonstrations that called for GWB to be killed, tried as a war criminal, impeached, etc.
These activists masquerading as "journalists" are the propaganda arm of the liberal/progressive element that is trying to move the US slowly and inexoriably toward socialism. What many of them think, or pretend to fool themselves into thinking, is that we can stop at "just the right amount" of socialism and won't continue down the road toward a Hugo Chavez or a Fidel Castro or a Mao Tsedung or a Pol Pot.
The Constitution, if it is followed and enforced, has safe guards and checks in it to prevent the country from going down the road toward totalitarianism. Now that we have ignored it and undermined it so much and so cavalierly, those protections no longer exist or are teetering on the brink. It will be up to those who are in power at the time as to whether we continue toward totalitarian hell or stop for a short time. But make no mistake, human nature being what it is, and the truism that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely being still active, we will not stop for long, if at all.
Throw 'da bums out!!!
Before it's too late.
Really??? Reaaaaaalllllyyyy?
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:08 ET by Anthony KangReally??? Reaaaaaalllllyyyy? First, Ok, the guest was a piece of crap...JUST CONDEMN supposed racists in the Tea Party, not b/c DR asked you to, but just effing DO IT! Now....
What is the one inherent, over-arching theme with almost every act of genocide in the 20th-century (Armenia, Nazi Germany, Ukraine, Cambodia, Guatemala, Yugoslavia, Rwanda)? IDENTITY politics—or in America, better known as black/chicano/asian/urban/feminist studies, sociology, etc.
Bravo Ratigan you brave and courageous soul. Your work and noble endeavor to further arouse fear and hatred, and further perpetuate the incredibly tragic and misguided culture of us-vs-them identity politics, victim-hood, paranoia, anger, and insidious resentment is duly noted and appreciated. You and like-minded colleagues such as Matthews, Maureen Dowd, Sharpton, Maddows, La Raza leaders, Michelle Obama, and KO remain an exemplary inspiration to us all, and a good for all mankind.
I really hope you are being

msnbc
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:17 ET by benzWho cares about msnbc?
Wow, what a tool
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:25 ET by falconI'd sue the boy for slander, personally. Every left-wing talker on television should be sued right now for slander. Since you can't prove a negative, the settlements would put the three cable networks out of business (and yes, I include Fox, because they've done their share, and if you're going to have standards, hold everyone to them).
I personally feel slandered every time I read one of these articles. So why keep reading them, you may ask? Because I want to stay informed of what the left is doing to try and destroy this great nation, as distasteful as it may be - and I commend the staff at NewsBusters for taking this task on for us all.
“I will not stand by and watch this great country destroy itself under mediocre leadership, that drifts from one crisis to the next, eroding our national will and purpose.” – Ronald Reagan, July 17, 1980.
Sue for slander
Fri, 03/05/2010 - 15:36 ET by American.Patriotwould be a non-starter.
It's easier to file a complaint with the FCC on-line when these idiots cross the line for acceptable content on TV.
I filed a complaint against Rachel Madcow when she used a pornographic gay video to disparage the tea party.
Of course, the FCC is controlled by the ultera-socialist appointee from the great one, so it's been 60 days with no response from the FCC
Ratigan is a racist slug.

If a republican
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 10:59 ET by realpatriotWhen we get a republican president back in office
he shold have the entire msnbc staff put on that watch list.
He can use clips from Ratagain, Ger-awful-fellow and "Countdown to my demise with Keef Ubermoron" as examples.
Should Microsoft be held accountable for MSNBC
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 11:20 ET by southc0astSince Microsoft is the MS in MSNBC, shouldn't be people be re-thinking buying its software. Maybe it is time to send Bill Gates a message about how he is spending his money on this project.
A message like, stop spending money on MSNBC or I will stop spending money on Microsoft.
Apple and Open Software now seem worth investigating.
Verbal Virtuosity
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 11:53 ET by iveseenitallThomas Sowell, one of America's most eminent economists, scholars and philosophers calls it "verbal virtuosity" and "arguments without arguments" as the left does what we see this madman Ratigan doing. They take the "high road" without supporting anything they say. Then they go berserk when anyone dares to disagree with their ignorance and stupidity. I, personally, have had this happen to me in my professional life. Look closely at the video. Ratigan walks away from the camera and works himself into a frenzy, then returns with invectives, not reasoned arguments. How immature. How ignorant. But that's the modern "liberal" for you. Sad.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
Ratigan is a wannabe bully...
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 13:28 ET by bpjamIs Dylan Ratigan responsible for the crazy, racist, homicidal people who listen to him? (if there are actually any people listening...)
This is such a stupid cannard that Williams should have literally just laughed at Ratigan for being a liberal hack. Mock him. Ask him to attend a gay pride parade and then get back to me about dangerous types. Or maybe one of those anarchist rallies organized by the socialist groups like UNITE, ANSWER or any other Big Labor Bosses.
Breitbart is right. They need to be hit back. The Tea Party is the only honest grassroots thing going on in America. Ratigan and the rest of these hacks ought to be beaten up with their own hateful views.
Progressives claim Conservative extremists tied to Tea Party
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 16:50 ET by Ruler4YouI find it fascinating that progressives who actually claim activist dissent in the past as 'positive' and 'vital' now claim 'conservative' activism as 'potentially harmful'.
Makes me consider that progressive activism isn't really based in the principles that Americans would call 'fundamental' after all. But more based in the agenda of progressive political advancement. A goal of quasi socialiasm to say the least. But also one of non Constitutional government as primary to it's platform. In other words, a government subversive of our founding. In times past this would have been called what it was, before PC ruled the day, socialism pure and simple. Today Americans are afraid of their own shadows for fear of being called some name of socialist segregationist propaganda instead of being considered for the value of the content in a comment.
Hummmm
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 19:13 ET by Joe CamelDear Mr. Ratigan, whom I must admit I have never heard of before now; something that may help you as you age my friend. Constipation can make you grouchy, so I would recommend a nice "stool" softner, maybe a good "cleansing." Also, remember as well that using too much "crack" can make you like this. Look to our president who loses it all the time blaming everyone for his issues. Gotta remember to pass it man, never hold it...luck....
Ratigan
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 22:37 ET by LarryGThe man is so ignorant as to not be aware of the fact that Nazis were and are left wingers right along with communists and MSNBC employees. Keep it up, Ratigan, we can use all the help you care to give us.

Wed, 03/03/2010 - 23:27 ET by BeukeboomHe's driving more moderates and even some liberals to the right.
Ratigan
Thu, 03/04/2010 - 01:42 ET by NewHampshireI was on this guy's show at 9 AM when Obama was in Portsmouth. He was a lot tamer then, but since the tea party has gathered so much steam, they are very desperate to crush us.
I clearly heard Williams state he of course does not tolerate racists and it was Ratigan who did not answer the question!!!
They do nothing about the racism on their side, Wright, Farrakhan, Fleger et al, tons of offensive people on the left.
And in my small state, the only time the media wants to talk to our tea party group is when there is some controversy with these 'national' groups and they seek us out to try to connect us to them.
Frankly I have never seen any racist groups at tea parties and this is all media hype because they have NOTHING ELSE to attack us with.
I wonder what Ratigan thinks
Thu, 03/04/2010 - 10:31 ET by NL207I wonder what Ratigan thinks of Rev. Louis Farrakhan and his followers, who are all Democrats. None of them would want to kill any Jews, would they?
What would you get if you crossed a RATigan with a RATner?
Thu, 03/04/2010 - 20:33 ET by jawebster1Most people don't know who Ellen Ratner is, but for those that do, I'm sorry for scaring the bejabbers out of you. Jim Webster

Who?
Mon, 03/22/2010 - 09:30 ET by Mikeyh0Another finger-jabbing, name-calling, socialist liberal freak who can't tell the difference between the Tea Party and the leader of Iran (who says HE wants to kill Jews). Why bother with him? But this is how the untalented leftist weenies think they can garner ratings. They don't realize that their ilk are never taken seriously by anyone with half a brain. They will never rise above the elementary school playground mentality. This guy had two dads who were committed to each other - I can tell. Bad toilet training. Change the meds. Quick.
Under Racist Ownership
Fri, 05/28/2010 - 20:01 ET by melpolNo great harm would be done if a small business owner was allowed to put
a sign on the front door saying: UNDER RACIST OWNERSHIP. If
authorities forced the owner to take down the sign there would be left
only an angry racist doing business with everybody. As a member of a
minority I feel that my dollar should go only to those that have
overcome the narrowness of racism. It would be a blessing to have
racists identify themselves so I can take my business elsewhere.”
