Confirmed: Lou Dobbs announced his resignation from CNN on his Nov. 11 broadcast. Transcription at bottom.

Has Lou Dobbs been forced out at CNN by the left-wing attack machine and other liberal forces? Quite possibly.

According to New York Times reporters Brian Stelter and Bill Carter, CNN's Lou Dobbs will announce his resignation from CNN on his Nov. 11 show.

"Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said," Stelter and Carter wrote. "A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program. His resignation is effective immediately; tonight's program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011."

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Also according to Stelter, tonight's show will be his last CNN broadcast.

"Dobbs' resignation is effective immediately; tonight's program will be his last on CNN," Stelter wrote in an update on Twitter.

Dobbs has been under attack by the left-wing noise machine and it escalated recently after a gunshot was fired at his home, which he revealed on his Oct. 27 radio program.

There has also been talk Dobbs could be headed for Fox News, another storyline Stelter revealed last month.

Transcript from Nov. 11 broadcast below:

Tonight I want to turn to a personal note, if I may, and address a matter that has raised some curiosity. This will be my last broadcast here on CNN, where I've worked for most of the past 30 years, and where I have many friends and colleagues whom I admire deeply and respect greatly.

I'm the last of the original anchors here on CNN and I'm proud to have had the privilege to helping to build the world's first news network. I'm grateful for the many opportunities that CNN has given me over the many years. I've tried to reciprocate with a full measure of my ability.

Over the past six months it's become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us. And some leaders in media, and in politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day and to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible.

I've talked extensively with Jonathan Klein. John's the president of CNN, and as a result of those talks, John and I have agreed to a release from my contract that will enable me to pursue new opportunities. At this point, I'm considering a number of options, and directions, and I assure you, I will let you know when I set my course.

I truly believe that the major issues of our time include -- the growth of our middle-class, the creation of more jobs, health care, immigration policy, the environment, climate change, and our military involvement, of course, in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But each of those issues is, in my opinion, informed by our capacity to demonstrate strong resilience of our now weakened capitalist economy and demonstrate the political will to overcome the lack of true representation in Washington, D.C.

I believe these to be profoundly, critically important issues, and I will continue to strive to deal honestly and straightforwardly with those issues in the future. Unfortunately, these issues are now defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than by rigorous, empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion.

I'll be working diligently to change that as best I can. And as for the important work of restoring inspiration to our great free society and our market economy, I will strive as well to be a leader in that national conversation.

It's been my great honor to work with each and every person at this wonderful network. I will be eternally grateful to CNN, to Ted Turner, and to all of my colleagues and friends and, of course, to you at home.

I thank you, and may God bless you.

*****Update: CNN has announced that John King will be replacing Dobbs in the 7PM Eastern timeslot.

NOTICE TO ALL ANCHORMEN

It's either start doing REAL news or die with the ratings...

Take your pick guys, America can't put up with this high school favorites game much longer.

I pray Dobbs and his family stays safe through all this.

It is either stop being Obama suckups...

...or watch your viewership...wither on the vine....

THIS SUCKS...

I have a feeling we have not heard the last of Dobbs. I hope not, honest, patriotic jounalists are not easy to find on the national scene anymore.

Best of luck in the future to Dobbs.

Good for you Lou!!!

Now go to work for Fox so I can watch you!  I don't watch that crap on CNN,

ABC, CBS , NBC et all!!!

Wow...what a coincidence, I

Wow...what a coincidence, I just now sat down, turned it to Dobbs show, looked to see the latest here, and I see this.

Maybe that chatter earlier about Dobbs moving to Fox wasn't just chatter after all...

What a line-up they will be adding, bet it may be on the Business Channel as Dobbs used to be on the CNN business channels, that's when I started listening to him now and then.

CNN is going to stay at the bottom of the barrel, along with Soros owned msnbc.

Welcome to Fox Lou (if that is what is happening) bet you'll be far more comfortable with your surroundings...

I know I'll be looking forward to it.

Also as a quick aside, if any else watches Lou regualrly, you notice he usually takes on the reporters who are giving their report if he finds bias or omissions, he does it in a polite, firm way...but much needed.

Too bad others didn't learn from the lesson...they would enrich their network..but heck, we can't have that if it gets in the way of their agenda..now can we?

edit~He's speaking of his leaving now...says he will let us know what/where he decides to go in the future...going to be interesting.

Great speech he just gave.

God Bless YOU as well Lou!

Maybe that chatter earlier

Maybe that chatter earlier about Dobbs moving to Fox wasn't just chatter after all...

Yeah, and with the crappy viewership on CNN I am amazed they can pay salaries at this point.  Perhaps they gave Lou the word, "budget cutsa-coming."

Dobbs

Good riddance.  Maybe this populist shrieking demagogue can just go away now.  (About the only thing he was ever good for was his staying on top of the illegal immigration issue.  Beyond that...)

PLEASE tell me this clown is not headed for Fox News.

Howdy Uns... Illegal

Howdy Uns...

Illegal immigration is at the top of the list for me, as well as the 2nd Amendment...which he also supports/defends.

Yes, he's a populist, but he has my respect....and thanks.

We can't all agree about everything...but he does love this country...which is more than I can say for a majority of the other talking heads who despise it.

Btw..if you listen to him at all, especially since this shooting by the murdering terrorist...you would agree with what and how he has fought and defended against the rest of the nut-case msm, plus his critique of O. ..he really ripped Tingles the other day regarding his statement about not being illegal to call al Qaeda (sp).

More on Dobbs

Yes, maybe so.  But Dobbs's anti-free trade stance and his Conspiro garbage turns me off completely.  If anything, I am deeply disappointed in him.  Once upon a time he used to be THE name in business news but he since decided that being a shrieking populist was better.

Yes, all of our talking heads like him, to paraphrase CBC's Rex Murphy, are ornaments to America's civic space.  That's fine.  But beyond his illegal immigrationg stance, I can't stand Lou Dobbs.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Illegal?

BT - You'll note that the quote from Stelter and Carter at the NYT said Dobbs had an "anti-immigration" view that caused some controversy.  No doubt it was just an oversight or faulty speed-typing that caused the word "illegal" to be omitted from the description of Dobbs.

Perfect Moniker

Well there you go Unsane, now that CNN will lose even more of their viewership and sink lower in the ratings, you can be happy.  Let us have the true American Patriots on Fox and you can keep the Anti American dolts on CNN. As good a place as they could ever be housed.

"For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security."

Silly accusations

Let us have the true American Patriots on Fox and you can keep the Anti American dolts on CNN. As good a place as they could ever be housed.   Unfortunately for you the only time I watch CNN is when I do not have a say in the matter (work, at the airport, etc).

Dobbs is hardly an American patriot.  He is nothing more than a shrieking populist.  And a blind follower of conspiracy theories at that.  If you like shrieking populists, maybe Bill O'Reilly can have a show with Lou Dobbs on Fox.  That would give you a deep erotic thrill, I'd imagine.

As for me, I'm not looking for populists.

→ The Hannity/Dobbs Report

Now there's a show I wouldn't miss.

You notice all the silly fluff with the "Allstar Panel"?

This would be a great show.  (I know Hannity might have a bit of an ego problem with it at first.  He still refuses to give a shout-out to Glenn Beck on his show.

Lou is real tough old-school warhorse (that's a compliment)

I hope Fox can find a spot for him (if he wants one).

Just another contrast: Lou's house is getting shot at - anybody have any reports of attempted assaults on say, Olbermann?

SoL

Wow, has his house really been shot at? Is there a link to this?

And yeah, Lou's very much his own guy and thinker. He was sipping a bit of the kool-aid a while back, but I think he's been coming to his senses as things have gotten worse and worse.

MrS... Yep, I listen to

MrS...

Yep, I listen to his radio show for about an hour a day as well. he has talked all about this, his wife if memory serves me correct (who is hispanic herself by the way) was outside, very near tot he danger...the left tried to say the reports were that it was investigated and it was hunting season blah blah blah, just a stray bullet, blah blah blah...

Problem is that isn't true, it wasn't hunting season then in the area, Dobbs said this himself.

I had a link, no longer do, will look again later.

'Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea'~Breitbart

I'LL TELL YOU WHO SHOULD HAVE HIS OWN SHOW...

I want FoxNews to set up a weekend show with Lord Christopher Monckton, who has been stalking Al Gore for a few years now. He is as sharp as a tack, & funny as hell. He could do his show from the UK at SkyNews studios.

The way he took over Glenn Beck's show was hilarious.

He reminded me of Mark Steyn when he's on for Rush, he has his own schtick of sorts. I would tune in, & he would trounce CNN & MSNBC in the ratings as well. Ailes should look into it.

We met one in Costa Rica (actually, he rescued the lost little lambs).

Great guy.  The ex-pats down there are wild.

I hope he fails, too.

Gee, the market for

Gee, the market for anti-American news seems a bit saturated.  I owuld have guessed only one network would be able to make a go of it broadcasting to malcontented American leftists.

But then again, the world wide market in third world wannabe nations is probably the real market they are seeking to dominate.  Kind of like Hollywood movies, so dreadful real americans can't bear to watch (GI-Joe, the rise of CObra comes to mind) but sells well in Bangladesh.

Lou, come on in to a real network, the waters fine.

We'll take him

I can't say it often enough ... we need a second non-liberal news network. Maybe Dobbs can be the O'Reilly for a new network. Dobbs isn't a die-hard conservative, for sure, but he's not a die-hard liberal, either.

If I had a couple million dollars to blow, starting a new non-liberal competitor to Fox would do us all a lot of good. Dobbs would be a good fit.

KC... I agree...the more,

KC...

I agree...the more, the better, weed out the rest..which are already weeds anyway that haven't been pulled up by the roots..yet.

I just listened to his announcement, posted above.

Btw...I want to thank Fox today for the great music/tributes they have given to the military...the ones I have seen are priceless.

At this point, the others are so in the tank, and so pre-programmed to spout the White House spin of the day, that I'm willing to overlook a lot. I don't have to agree with him on a lot of things ... as long as he has a mind of his own. I can respect someone who thinks for himself, instead of being scripted by Rahm Emanuel every morning.

With an open mind, reason has a chance. That's all we ask for.

ckc...

He's not a conservative as the majority of us are here, he's a Populist, Independent, whatever you want to use, he goes by Mr. Independent as part of his shtick on his radio show.

I agree with many of his views, he's a lot like BOR in some ways...only not the blow-hard over-bearing egotist that Bill is.

'Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea'~Breitbart

I was going to say the very same thing

"We need a second non-liberal news network."

CNN is sinking like a rock in water while MSNBC contents itself with the likes of Chris the Wide Mouth Frog and Keith "I'm jouronating in my bathtub" the Sports Boy.

Murdoch should start another network, so the MSM and Charlie's "Cabals" can be squeezed by Fox from the right and the new network from the other right.

Dobbs

This is rich. Lou Dobbs is the only sane person over there. Maybe they will insert Joy Behar in his place? Her ratings sure need a boost.

Hope we'll see Lou over at Fox soon......He will join Beck et al.

Go Lou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't ever say that!

Don't ever say "Joy Behar" and "insert" in the same sentence again! Yaagggghh. I need some ipecac!

Though he was right...

Though he was right on the immigration I lost respect for him when I heard him say Bush should be impeached for the tomato recall due to salmonella...

"You know, I have heard a lot of reasons over the years as to why George W. Bush should be impeached. For them to leave the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in this state, its leadership in this sorry condition and to have no capacity apparently or will to protect the American consumer - that is alone, to me, sufficient reason to impeach a President who has made this agency possible, and has ripped its guts out in its ability to protect the American consumer. It's insane what is going on here."  -Dobbs

It was later shown to be chili pepers and not tomatos.

Dobbs too let BDS get the better of him.

That shows Dobbs to be half-crazy, and that's why he had to go from CNN.

You gotta figure a sudden "resignation" does mean "I am being fired". I see no other reason. He must have been under contract. Hopefully the truth will come out when he gets other work somewhere but maybe there is a no disclosure clause in his contract. We will see. I think IMHO another voice is being silenced because of this administration. You are right this is getting a bit scary.

I was just about to say the exact same thing. Why does the left have so much sympathy for foreign criminals?

Flash....The radical left

Flash....The radical left creates and uses chaos as a tool to disrupt the coherent functioning of institutions or governments.

They do this as a prelude to their takeover of said institution or government. Forcing (practically) illegal immigration upon a country is one of their more effective tactics to accomplish this goal. Gets people fighting and name calling with each other.

The left comes along at the right moment and says, "Don't like the chaos? Well, by golly, we have the answer to your anxiety. Just do what we tell you and you will be happy again."

It's a very old tactic, and has been used for centuries,.

You can see the tactic used in bold colors in the left's attempt to create a health care gulag in the US. All we hear is the faux message of "health care delivery in the US is falling apart, people are dying for lack of insurance" etc, and blah blah blah. They want to create the impression that our health care system is in meltdown--chaotic, in other words. Then they offer THEIR solution to acquire more power over us, and our right to make choices.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Lou Dobbs

I have been watching Mr. Dobbs since the beginning of CNN.  While I don't agree with everything he has ever said, I have always respected the man.  I just finished watching his last program and was mightily impressed with how he went off about what the president said.  Something like "My God, what kind of country is this!"  Someone mentioned earlier, and I agree...he loves this country.  I think that his refusal to be PC and toe the line of the left masters has caused him some difficulties which makes him not 'fit in' with what we still call the MSM.  Personally, I would like to see him on Fox News.  I would like to hear some different thoughts, and I have trouble making myself turn the TV to Commie News Network any longer.  I wish him well regardless of where he goes next.  During Desert Storm, AFN carried CNN so that is what we watched in Saudi to learn when the scuds were heading our way.  God bless Mr. Dobbs and his family.

My hope is that Fox

My hope is that Fox Business take Imus the dufus off and puts Dobbs in his place.  What the h*ll Fox Business was thinking when they put Imus on a business news channel beats me.

With Imus on in the morning telling me nothing about the business news that I tune to Fox Buisness for, I am stuck watching CNBC and the fawning interviews of the nations liberals as they parade in each morning.  Come on Fox, get it right . . .

While your at it Fox Business, take that pathetic excuse for the "tape" of what is trading off and replace it the traditional "tape."  Jeesh . . .

Maybe Lou will

run for office? I think he should. He is for the most part a conservative man on many issues that I find important.

Fox Business

If he ends up on FOX, I think he'll have his own show on the business channel, and he'll make appearences on FOX News channel, just like John Stossel.

And speaking of Stossel..........Anyone else notice how he is barely tolerant of the nonsense that BOR spouts when he makes his contractual appearences on Bill's show?  I wish that Bill would do a "Body Language" segment of Stossel when Stossel is on the BOR show.

Re Stossel

I see creeping intolerance of BOR's ignorance and swollen head from several of his guests. He and Cavuto go at it regularly, but it will take a few of the bigs speaking up, like maybe Rove, Beck, Krauthammer, Hume, etc, to possibly straighten him out.

unmitigated bias

He may have been thinking of leaving for some time.

But the unmitigated bias that has been on display about the Fort Hood terrorist not to call it terror, and how they bent over backward to not call it terror and danced around the word like it was worse than the murder act itself, may have pushed him to the conclusion sooner.

He still has his radio show

Re Dobbs

Lou turns 65 soon, so it's possible he may be slowing down a little, planning to enjoy life. I believe he could have stayed at CNN as long as he wanted, but he may see the ship going down and want to leave while he can without getting wet. CNN appears to have no plans or means to recover their ratings, so why go down with the rest of them?

I agree with others, I don't think Murdoch confides in Geraldo. If what he says is true, he may have said "Lou is not coming to Fox News", not mentioning FBN.

Lou Dobbs...

Well, this was not a surprise. Given the political atmosphere at CNN, and Dobbs' outspoken views on several subjects that ran counter to the liberal group think there, Dobbs' departure has, for quite a while, been a matter of when, not if. The question now is what's next for Mr. Dobbs? Time will tell if the rumors of his jumping to Fox are true, but one thing is for sure...If Dobbs goes to Fox, there will be one person there who will not be rolling out the welcome mat for him...Geraldo. He is on the record as calling Dobbs a racist (which is ridiculous) because of Dobbs' stringent views on illegal immigration. If Dobbs' does land at Fox, it will be interesting to see what, if anything, develops between the two of them.

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

Yea, racist.  Anyone tell

Yea, racist.  Anyone tell Her-all-doh that Dobbs's wife, Debi (maiden name Segura) is Mexican-American, and that he has Mexican in-laws?  I'm not sure racists marry outside of their race.  Just a small hunch.

I hadn't heard that...

about Dobbs' wife...Even so, I doubt that would matter much to Geraldo. He sees virtually everything through racial-tinted lenses now...There is no reasoning with him on any issue related to illegal immigration...The fact that he is Hispanic colors how he sees everything connected to it.

Are there any...

time slots left for another top rated Fox News show? I guess Fox Business might have some.

Or maybe he can go back to real journalism and replace Katie.

Hrm

Hrm.  Well this isnt earth shattering news,  Im guessing that Dobbs is jumping off the Titanic also known as CNN....most likely to make a move to Fox.

Im not the biggest fan of Dobbs,  or Fox,  I prefer books you see.  The latest NY times novel is far more interesting than the repetitive commentary on Fox.

Shep's?

Shep's?

Thank you CNN...

It is with great delight that we wish to introduce our next great hit show on Fox Business News, Lou Dobbs.

May God Bless You and Your Family, Lou

I watch a comentary today from him and wondered how he was still at CNN. It's so weird as I used to love to watch CNN with the original casters. Like when we invaded Iraq in 1991.

Perhaps he will go to FOX and drive the ratings through the roof...oh wait, they are already through the roof with FOX. Maybe FOX will become an exemplary NEWS station recognized globally with as many locations as CNN around the world.

Cnn is a joke

Lou Dobbs is a patriot.

The best thing Americans can do is to completely disengage from the left
wing media.

Screw them...there all communists...just the same as the current
administration.

I hope Dobbs ends up at Fox....

He was the one and only reason I ever tuned into that crap station.

I have no use for the main street media....they are completely anti
American and pro Marxist.

Best wishes Mr Dobbs....thanks for all the great reporting...your a true
journalist.

The rest of your so called colleges at CNN are just taking dictation.

Well, there goes half of

Well, there goes half of CNN's viewership.  Can the network be long from petitioning uncle Barack for a bailout?

I wish Lou Dobbs good luck on his new Fox show.

Coincidence, I think not...

Lou Dobbs leaves a very public position, "to go beyond the role at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day and to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible."

He's not going to do it from the anchor chair.

Odds are that he is going to be labelled a QUITTER at least three times before the sun rises on the day after Veterans Day.

Sarah Palin leaves a very public, although primarily local, elected position to

to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.

I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska - or Outside Alaska.

But I won't do it from the Governor's desk.

She was called a QUITTER immediately.

Yet both leave their respective positions because they both believe that something more inpoortant is calling them, particularly the voice they both give to AMERICA. America First and foremost. America and her unlimited potential, if only government would get out of the way!

Sarah voice and support through the recent election cycle, although not victorious in the NY23 race, did cause a serious stir among those of us who believe is the potential of the individual over the party mechanations that now seem to overwhelm us at every turn. We suported an INDIVIDUAL candidate whom we believed had greater potential that the party candidate. Although America lost that battle, Lou Dobbs and Sarha Palin sorking form the same notes, not necessicarily "talking points," could be the hard truth that we America loving, gun-toting, SUV driving, hard working, Veterans, farmers and laborers need to hear.

These two, collectively, or independently, could be a great pair to help America remember how great she really is.

Palin/Dobbs or Dobbs/Palin '12 would be interesting, but unlikely.

Now free to give voice, un hindered by contracts and oathes, except that of citizen, the will ROAR and they will be heard.

DOBBS on FOX NEWS...

Hmmm...  Could Dobbs be joining Fox News in their epic battle against the late failure, Dunn & the Whitehouse!?!?  Click here to see the epic battle:  http://thedailyzing.com/130/enemy-of-the-state/   Dobbs would fit in great on this fight card! =)

Rock On Lou

He's one of the few reporters that actually says "Hey guess what.  Illegal aliens are illegal- aka criminals.  No they aren't displaced workers.  They broke into our house."  Now the thing with the anti-free trade deal.  I think he's making the assumption that markes won't correct for other countries tariffs.  I think they would, and quickly.

I'm looking at the comments on the NY times website and...  Wow, the socialists really hate this guy.  Good.  That means he's right.

Lou, go to Fox with Stossel and Beck.  You guys would rock.  All these Libertarians in one place.  It's like Field of Dreams...

Damnit, I get all weepy when I see these Libertarians collapsing liberal network ratings even more<sniff sniff>.  The awesomeness is just getting started.

Thor... Rock

Thor...

Rock on...indeed!

come to Fox Lou !!!!!

I like Lou and would gladly watch him on Fox.... where I'm sure he will be welcomed with open arms. I stopped watching him on CNN because I just can't stand that network anymore. Any network who thinks that Joy Behar is talented has major issues.

Uh, not so much...

I'm not buying that Dobb's was "forced out", but rather has the integrity and character to know that while CNN may have let him have his say in matters opposite in ideology, they never backed him up and I believe him when he says it was his decision to leave.

As for where Dobbs will be going, I highly doubt he'll go to FOX and will probably freelance for awhile, mainly on radio before he settles into his own show, albeit FOX is probably the most logical destination as no other network will allow him to have his say.

I wish Lou Dobbs all the best in his future endeavors and I hope that the next "gig" is one in which the most people have the opportunity to see him and hear his message.

As for the reporting of this story, first off, it's JON Klein and second, it's funny how this story has plenty of "response" to Dobbs leaving from the pro ILLEGAL immigrant lobby, but not a single response praising Dobbs for his honesty and forthrightness in handling "sticky" opinions and idealogies that the left flat out refused to acknowledge.

I think Dobbs's move is all

I think Dobbs's move is all based on the success that Glen Beck is having.  Beck got tired of being told by CNN what he could or couldn't report on, so he bailed, went to FNC, and is now having major success.  Dobbs just watched Beck go from being a nobody to threatening to topple O'Reilly as the king of cable news, and you know he's been sitting there at CNN thinking "that should be me!"

The next job Dobbs has will be at FNC.  Bet on it.
