Hume Defends Fox Again: Asks How CNN, Others 'Like Being Patted on the Head and Given the Seal of Approval by the White House'

After another round of attacks from the White House, this time from higher levels of the Obama administration, Brit Hume, a senior political analyst for Fox News, went to bat for his network.

On the Oct. 19 broadcast of Fox News Channel's "Special Report with Bret Baier," Hume gave his best effort to rationalize why White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Obama Senior Advisor David Axelrod used two Sunday morning news show appearances to beat up on the highly rated news channel. According to Hume, it was because they disapproved of the stories his channel broke over the last few months.

"It is a little hard to discern a strategy behind the White House campaign of criticism of Fox News unless it's simply this - an attempt to quarantine Fox and thereby discourage other media outlets from following up stories did originate here," Hume said. "The White House is clearly stung by the revelations about former aid Van Jones. He turned out to have harbored views that were out there where the buses don't run and he was forced to resign. And the White House could not much have cared for the hidden camera expose of ACORN - an organization with which the president had a past association and one whose voter registration drives have benefited the Democratic Party."

Hume said he wondered that since Obama aides cast a disparaging view on Fox News if the other channels, including CNN, fell in line more with the lapdog role than the watchdog role, as some think journalism should be.

"So the president's aides appear on other news channels to say that Fox, unlike those outlets, is really not a news organization but an arm of the Republican Party. One wonders how our colleagues at CNN and elsewhere like being patted on the head and given the seal of approval by the White House. These outlets already stand accused of being in the tank for Mr. Obama. Do they really want to open themselves up to more such criticism by ignoring legitimate stories because they originate here?"

According to Hume, the more the White House attacks, the more his channel is benefiting, which is not exactly a winning strategy for Fox News opponents.

"Here at Fox meanwhile the attacks have been something of a boon, especially to the highly opinionated and wildly popular Glenn Beck who has installed direct phone line on his set and invited the White House to call if anyone there has a beef," Hume continued. "So far, no calls."

Maybe the WH will pay some attention?

Brit Hume has quite a bit of integrity with news orgs.  He has been well respected for many years.  I hope the White House will listen.

I would think his words will carry well now that he only makes commentary since partially retiring.

"hope the White House will

"hope the White House will listen"

This WH is crashing & burning like something out of a horror movie. They're going to lash out soon, cause some pointless mini war, to deflect attention. It's what democrats do.

I think you're right, NOMW, but I have one concern.

And that is Obama and his minions will start the "mini war" here, within the borders of the United States.

Even the left...

...are questioning the Administrations tactics.

Of course they are still doing tricks for Obama in the hopes of a doggy treat like the good little pocket poodles that they are, so much for integrity.

Kind of like a guy yelling "Hey leave him alone" while participating in the beat down.

As usual the leftist media lapdogs set themselves up to play both sides of the fence should things turn against them.

They want the bail out, so

They want the bail out, so they will do what Obama asks.  Bribery it seems is the stock and trade of Democrats.  Harry Reid is trying to bribe doctors into supporting ObamaCare by promising not to cut Medicare reimbursement rates as mandated by law.  We see this over and over, GM, Chrysler, Banks, Brokerages, Green Energy, offer money in exchange for continuing support.   It's the Chicago way.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

One wonders how our

One wonders how our colleagues at CNN and elsewhere like being patted on the head and given the seal of approval by the White House.

ouch!!  That ought to hurt some 'journalists' in their pride.

Here is the Whitehouse approved dress code for the media.

Ouch?

"ouch!!  That ought to hurt some 'journalists' in their pride."

You're kidding.  Pride?  How about job preservation?  The New York Times has been the leader of the pack, walking lock-step with the WH, and every liberal minded agenda.  Keller is now asking for 100 more newsroom resignations/buy-outs, or he will implement outright layoffs.  link

I'm pleased to see you put journalism in quotes, because this is where the question arises; should the left-stream media's spoon-fed content from the WH be considered journalism?  The Gibbs press conferences are a complete farce when almost no "journalist" questions any of the content presented by the WH.  The days of Sam Donaldson challenging Reagan were a boon for the news industry.  Today, all we have is a media cult walking lock-step with the administration, because they know that one wrong question or challenge could be the last.  The media used to be government watchdogs working for the public's interest.  Sadly, this is not the case anymore.  Pride in their profession?  I doubt this is a consideration.

Rovin

   Well from their point

Well from their point of view they are journalists and they believe they have pride in their work.  What Brit Hume is doing here is holding up a mirror to their faces and challenging them to really take a look.

Boosts in Ratings

This would be the expected outcome because even infamy generates expanded coverage. See balloon boy for details. Just them saying 'Foxnews" practically ensured a surge in people checking out what the controversy is about. And we need, so bad, a wider audience of people being exposed to a wider world view.
GB provide this vehicle for exposing more people to a wider truth. TY Mr. GB. I subscribe to your newsletter and I do not agree 100% of the time --- but I listen each time.

Teh Won and the FOX

Teh won is headed for another failure on his unaccomplished list with this fight against FOX NEWS. Slick willy tried the same and he lost the game. Teh won is way more of a amature then Billy boy and won’t last one round against the battle tested FOX.

Britt Hume is Baiting the Other News Organizations

Britt Hume is Baiting the Other News Organizations. The Patting them on the Head Comment is what will sting the most. All Mr. Hume needs to do is get one Reporter at one Network to really start doing thier job. If that happens the avalanche will have started and gravity takes over. Thier own competitveness and lemming like behavior will do the rest. Eventually the other news organizations ID will be punctured and that is when they will rebel. Mr. Hume was very carefull with his choice of words and his delivery. Most of the other News Organizations already think the White House is making a mistake attacking Fox now it has been turned on them. Patting them on the head, priceless.

"If that happens the

"If that happens the avalanche will have started"...

It'll never happen; the socialist agenda is too damn important, the media having thrown themselves in to it long ago.

Obama, Rahm, Axelrod, Dunn, et.al...fascists, all.

"Patting them on the head, priceless."

Yes! It was the perfect thing to say.

Focus

I like the idea of turning the focus, not on the White House (which seems to be too immature to change) but on fellow reporters. Of course, Hume has more respect for their character than I have. I suspect the other journalists will keep doing what they're doing.

I hope they prove me wrong.

Brit has integrity.

No one in the Obama administration does.

The Networks!

The networks will never change their format because they don't have the principles to stand up against the White House! These are the people who hid behind the backs of the Black Panthers during the Vietnam protests! They run to the bathroom and hide when the bar room brawl breaks out! When they're not in danger, they have all sorts of guts! The threats to fox is a shot across the bow to the others! Stay in line or you'll be next! Welcome to the the White House aka The Kremlin, propaganda machine controlled by Comrade Emanuel and Asselrod, er, Axelrod!

Hume has it nailed

"It is a little hard to discern a strategy behind the White House
campaign of criticism of Fox News unless it's simply this - an attempt
to quarantine Fox and thereby discourage other media outlets from
following up stories did originate here," Hume said.

The White House is letting it be known that no news outlet outside of their Ministry of Information will be tolerated.

I wish someone had asked one of the complaining WH flaks :  If they're not a "news" outlet, why are they allowed at press conferences?

That was the basis of the Bush WH for barring WorldNetDaily: that they were not a real "news" organization.  They had to prove that they were. (They did).

What the White House is doing is pathetic...

They are calling on their lap dog media to help them crush the dissent at Fox News.    It is ridiculous for them to claim that Fox News is not a news agency when they have been running circles around Obama's palace guard media.    If Fox News isn't a news organization then what do you call an organization that won't run certain stories because the White House won't like it....?    Fox is breaking stories while the other media are busy running infomercials, hosting parties for White House staff and bowing to the President.

" if Republicans are able to stop Barack Obama on health care, 'it will be his Waterloo, it will break him....-Sen. Jim DeMint

Thank you Brit

Between Brit's "pat on the head" remark and Anita Dunn's "control the media" video released this week, the clueless reporterettes in the MsM have had a giant clue waved in their faces.  (Not to mention the old bat Helen cackling).

This administration's childish and continued "calling out" Fox News clearly shows how thin skinned it (and all of its members) is.

However, don't get distracted.  Keep your eye on the ball, and your mouths on the phone, fingers on the keyboard....these idiots are still going to try to jam the public option through along with this health care debacle!

Stay frosty! (Aliens)

I hope he fails, too.

'Transparency'

Good point. These people do not listen to their party let alone themselves.

A Poll showed that viewership of Fox consists of 50% libs/independents. Why can't the administration find this? If 50% of Fox's audience (libs/independents) are watching why would you attack it?

redicule

Its to redicule people into dropping Fox as a News source.  Who wants to say they watch a tabloid station?

Redicule is rule #5.  The trouble is there is a guy on Fox who has pretty much cornered the market on it already.  A guy in a Mao suit waiting to answer the phone.  That is funny, I don't care who you are.

Journalists?

Don't you mean sycophants? They have LONG ago abandoned the title 'journalist'. And most, the first two syllables are enough to truly describe them--sick-o's.

WTF? Beck has a guy in a Mao

WTF? Beck has a guy in a Mao suit to answer the phone on the set? Damn, that's funny. The one thing that will bring down Obama is this type of ridicule. I'm starting to fear for Beck's life, Obama and Axelrod, the Chicago gangsters, may very well have Beck assassinated.

Spot on!

Now CNN, here's your biscuit. Good Boy. Tomarrow, Uncle Rahm is going to teach you how to roll over and play dead.

Roll over, play dead

Midnightcowboy,

To late, that was done a long time ago.  The "News media" carcass is rotting and the stench is unbearable.

Last night PBS did a story

Last night PBS did a story on Beck.  It's pretty easy to tell they like the pats on the head....

I wonder how Jim Lehrer or Bill Moyers or any MSM "journalists" would like an expose' done on them and how they slant the news.

They so casually omit the fact that people like Beck are admittedly giving out opinion, whereas the MSM are portraying their slanted take on the news as straight reporting.  That's known as lying.

POLITICS: poly (many) + ticks (blood sucking parasites)

This isn't the first time

This isn't the first time the Obama camp has pulled a stunt like this.  If you will remember Obama has a growing list of stations (Maimi and Philadelphia) and reporters they simply will not talk to.  Since it worked so well for Biden, I'm guessing they believe it will work for the whole Obama administration.  Now they are ramping up to the network level.

They either feel bold enough to engage in intimidation tactics figuring their man at the FCC will help them break up or destroy anyone who doesn't tow the line or are so desparate and fearful their agenda will collapse under constant exposure they are risking everything on a hail Mary pass.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

No one is crushing me

These little twits can try to "crush" dissent, but I am still watching. I have caught Beck and O'Reilly in misstatements on occasion--I can judge...I am not an idiot...I can DECIDE. Fox is more interesting, more varied, and contains more viewpoints, and has more women on it, and I like it. These newcomers can take a jump.

exactly

Since some on the left take whatever the MSM says without question, that naturally assume that all people do that. I try and be a discerning consumer of the news and don't take what anybody says as gospel without double checking and looking into it.

         The govt.

The govt. cares more about Acorn than they do about the senior citizens. It isn't a war with Fox, it's a war with the people that speak out against the govt. If not for Fox, we would be overrun with their traitorous agenda. It's the only news network left. The others have already sold their souls to the all powerful muslim president. They don't want us to look behind the curtain. WE would see a traitor.

Send us some hate too!

I have to wonder if at some point, the lesser networks will look at Fox's ratings, and make the connection to the blast of hatred coming from the White House. Maybe they will use the back channel to ask el Presidente to criticize them a bit more too, so viewers will go there to see what the big fuss is.

"Those who don't learn from history......"

"The present struggle over television occurs among several constituencies: between the central authorities and the republics, between the _________ Party and the newly emerging political forces, and, of course, within the television organization itself."

I found this in an article about Soviet control of the state run media in the old USSR, but you can easily substitute the word "Democratic" in the blank where the word "Communist" appeared in the original quote. Frightening.
