Gawker: 'Glenn Beck is an Actual Terrorist, and the People Attending his Rally in DC Tomorrow Are al-Qaeda in America'

Usually it is easy ignore the commentary from that great bastion of cultural insight, known as the gossip Web site Gawker. But every now and then, even Gawker steps over the line.

In a Sept. 11 post by Alex Pareene that was allegedly meant to reflect on the passing of eighth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Pareene launched into a hate-and-expletive-filled anti-President George W. Bush, anti-conservative and anti-Glenn Beck attack in his post. His first assault was on the prior administration.

"Shortly after (or maybe during) that day, our president at the time, a little [expletive] no one liked, handed over the reins to the most psychotic elements of his administration," Pareene said. "In the vast national wave of jingoism, paranoia, dread, and fear that followed, he and his friends led us into an unrelated war they'd been planning beforehand, allowed the CIA to wiretap and torture anyone they liked (and encouraged the CIA to wiretap and torture even more than they were comfortable with!), and regularly insisted that our memory of that day should not be sullied with critical thinking or expressions of anything other than still-palpable fear."

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

In Pareene's next page of the playbook, he praised President Barack Obama for not engaging America's enemies "in 9/11 rhetoric."

"Barack Obama is the president now. Regardless of what you think of him as a politician or a man, he admirably refuses to engage in 9/11 rhetoric," Pareene continued. "He does not operate from the cynical assumption that his audience believes that America Can Do No Wrong, that to criticize a war is to be a literal traitor, that to not worship the president is to spit on the graves of soldiers, that the correct response to a tragedy is to create a thousand more. He doesn't talk like that. And so, [expletive] finally, the anniversary belongs to the latte-sipping out-of-touch coastal elites who witnessed it."

However, he saved the most egregious for last. He took a shot at Fox News host Glenn Beck and those participating in tomorrow's 9/12 March on DC.

"On 9/12, people in New York (and DC) did not feel as ‘great' as Glenn Beck," Pareene wrote. "They just felt like [expletive]. They felt scared and confused and depressed. Many of them were drunk. And only an idiot or an actual terrorist would want to always feel like it was 9/12/01. And eight years later, normal people, with brains and souls, have decided that some emotional distance from that disaster is healthier and wiser than trying to recapture the dread. So thank [expletive] Christ that the Commander in Chief is no longer subjecting the nation to death porn."

Pareene and other left-wing critics of Beck's 9-12 Project have totally misunderstood Beck's intent. It's not to create euphoria, but as the Web site explains, it "is designed to bring us all back to the place we were on September 12, 2001" and overcome political divides.

Nonetheless, Pareene hurled more insults at 9-12 Project participants and capped it off by referring to them as "al-Qaeda in America." (Emphasis added)

"No, this year it's limited to a nutty little cult leader on basic cable who is encouraging his radicalized band of fanatical followers to invade the cities where the tragedy actually happened in order to shock the populace back into fear," Pareene continued. "Glenn Beck is an actual terrorist, and the people attending his rally in DC tomorrow are al-Qaeda in America."

why surprised to hear that from gawker?

That's common knowledge among the left now. Bush did 9/11 and Glenn Beck is a terrorist. It's what they believe.

I understand Gitmo will be available

We are being goverened by the lawyer for ACORN, Barack Obama, who blackmailed Citibank into the first "sub-prime" loans. That eventually started the "financial crisis" and also lead to his election as President. ACORN has been shown to be a criminal organization and is set to receive $8.5 billion of our tax money, from a Congress controlled by the president's political party. Beck is being labeled a terrorist for exposing these facts and much more. What does that tell you about what is happening in our country. A criminal organization (Chicago gang) has taken control of our government. Had enough change yet, America?

LOL. What a psycho.

Though I don't want to live under Vladimir Lenin, I sure as hell don't want to live under Oliver Cromwell or some self-proclaimed "general" who just happens to own a lot of guns and has many like-minded friends who will follow him.

The Modern American Revolution is in full swing, if the liberals want to take it up a notch, we are ready. We won't back down, we won't surrender and we won't take prisoners, they can take that anyway they want to, I'm to the point now where I no longer care what liberals think, say or do. I just want my country back and if that means prying it from the cold dead fingers of the liberals, so be it.

In the words of George W. Bush, "You are either with us or against us". So bring it on libs, we're ready, locked and loaded and I guarantee you victory will be ours in the end.

It's probably not as easy as it sounds.  Having another Civil War might sound appealing, but you are going to have to deal with some serious issues.  If there is another Civil War, you will probably have 1/3 of the American population on one side, 1/3 of the American population on the other side and 1/3 of the American popluation that really doesn't care either way.  Let's say the Conservatives win, then you're going to have to deal with the remainder of the 1/3 of the population that opposed you, as well as how to make sure the 1/3 who didn't care either way conform to the new society.  What are you going to do with those people?  Deport them, execute them, or try to integrate them into the new society?  When left wingers prevail in such instances as the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, they decided to get ride of anyone who doesn't think like them and they spent a great deal of time and energy doing that and it lead to disastrous new societies.  After the Reds won in Russia they engaged in the Red Terror and deported or killed those who had opposed them.  They lost many talented people and their society became an Orwellian society.

The Hungarians tried to revolt against the Communists and they had some early success, but were quickly squashed by the Soviets.  This lead to many people leaving Eastern Europe and going to Western Europe, and the Hungarians lost many skilled workers.

I would suggest reading about battles such as Antietam and the massive number of American casualties in just one day.  Do you really want to rise up against fellow Americans and then get rid of anyone who opposed you?  I think what will happen is that the new society will spend so much time worrying about what to do with the third of the population who they fought against, and how to make sure the third who really didn't care, that you'll probably just lead to more problems.  In my opinion you're best bet is to use your freedom of speech to speak out against things in the government you see as errors, and hope that in the next election you can get change.

Why is everyone so afraid of Fox?

Glenn Beck is bobastic and over the top, but his fact checking staff gets a five star rating.  I've been absolutely gobsmacked by his ACORN coverage, and, as usual, wonder why MSM hasn't jumped on this.

Conservatives tend to deal in facts, libs lay into ad hominem attacks.

I freely admit that I tend to visit and read sites -- TownHall, WSJ, Junkscience, for example -- that are generally deemed conservative.  I rarely bother to read NYT because their coverage is essentially propoganda in an extremely thin disguise.   Still, at least once a week I scan lib websites.  I think I'd be irresponsible if I did not do this.

At the same time, I'm vastly amused at the excoriations dumped on Fox.  According to MSM they are evil incarnate.  P'haps it's just because they grab dirt and expose it day's earlier?

Beck isn't a terrorist, nor

Beck isn't a terrorist, nor are the people that go to these little mixers, but he's quickly becoming a bomb-thrower (verbally). He seems more and more unhinged, making more and more parabolic statements.

Nah, he's not unhinged,

Nah, he's not unhinged, balboa.  It seems to me he is finding layer upon layer of corruption within the government and just when he thinks he's reached the final layer, another one is exposed.  And so it goes on and on.

Beck started digging in when Bush was President and hasn't had a chance to stop, especially now with Obama in power.  Say what you will, but honestly balboa, this guy is surrounding himself with uber-uber left-wing extremists that scare even hardcore Democrats.  When you do things like that, it is only a matter of time before it starts to get investigated and scrutinized on a deeper level than the casual acceptance that is usually afforded to such events.

I have been thinking about, and maybe you might know of some, any issues Beck has pursued that haven't borne fruit of some kind.  I don't think Beck is grasping at straws here.  He's onto something and I don't think he'll stop anytime soon.

I honestly believe Obama has brought this upon himself because he has been conditioned to believe he iscovered in teflon and nothing icky can stick to him.  Or it is his blatant elitist arrogance and condescending demeanor.  I can almost hear him sniff when he addresses his staff.  (Okay, that is just my opinion there...I don't know how he treats his staff.)

Anyhoos, I think Beck is a thorn in Obama's side right now.

It's refreshing to see a liberal not jump onto the bandwagon and rant that Beck is a terrorist and blah blah blah.  Awesome.  (I meant you, here, balboa.)

ps:  I had to look up the word "parabolic".  Wow!  What are you, like some smart guy or what?  Ha!

I'm sure that there are truths in the topics he brings up, but he then seems to extrapolate to such extremes it's hard to take him seriously. After a while it just becomes so much noise, and not helpful.

Funny statements that libs all make

I'm sure that there are truths in the topics he brings up,

So far I am not sure I have seen one statement of his refuted convincingly. Are you suggesting that his concerns are NOT warranted? Is acorn not as bad as we think, do they deserve our money? Pointing out the unhinged lives of Obamas czars is overzealous? Rallying folks to the constitution is extreme?

My Gov. thinks I am dangerous, so be careful

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Was it Nietzsche that said,

Was it Nietzsche that said, "When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares at you"?

Perhaps Beck is coming unhinged because of the corruption he is exposing is too much for any one man to digest.  I know it would make me want to stop and go sit in a field of daisies ala Bloom County, just so I could get my bearings back.

No, you watch too much TV.

It was Lou Mannheim on the movie Wall Street.

Man looks into the Abyss, and there's nothin' staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character, and that's what keeps him out of the Abyss

No, it was Neitzsche.

No, it was Neitzsche.  Black42711 had it mixed up, but he was right about the original quoter. I was following this topic and wanted to throw my 2 cents in.  -Eric

into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." -Friedrich Neitzsche

translation

I'm too lazy to dissect the information myself and unwilling to give Beck credit for being right. So I'll throw up a squishy disclaimer about how the truth is out there but it's Beck's fault for being too exccentric.

No, candance, translation is

No, candance, translation is "Beck is becoming a hysterical ninny that no one can take seriously."

Disagree, bal...

Change "can" to "should".

Bomb thrower????

You mean like the bombs he threw at ACORN?

"If the man, with the power, can't keep it under control...some heads are gonna roll." -Judas Priest

meanwhile

Lefties are making actual bomb threats against people who plan these "little mixers."

And pro-lifers are shot in the street by an angry lib.

But Beck is a bomb thrower.

Got it.

thanks for the vote of confidence, Bal

Oh he's not a terrorist per se, but he is a big fat jerk who throws bombs.

And yeah, we're showing up at little mixers. Lefties aren't condescending AT ALL.

Nice "repudiation" of gawker's rhetoric. It's a tad too dramatic but Beck had it coming - that about sum it up?

No, repudiating what Gawker

No, repudiating what Gawker said, and then adding my own comment. I didn't say anything about "Beck had it coming."

So, no, you don't sum anything up.

That's strange.

Is this how liberals react to attacks? Should we rewrite the Art of War by Sun Tsu?

They felt scared and confused and depressed. Many of them were drunk.

I was torqued, focused and ready for a little payback. It was not a time to drink. It was time to regroup and hit back.

Sun Tsu:

Let your rapidity be that of the wind,
your compactness that of the forest.

In raiding and plundering be like fire,
    is immovability like a mountain.

Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night,
and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.

Pa reene:

When attacked by the enemy, curl up into a little ball.

As the enemy springs, cry like a little girl.

When the enemy is finished, and plans his next attack, put on a great drunk, to give the enemy the best chance to finish you off.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

Interesting format on that blog

My attention was called to "stars" under some posters s/n's. One of these remarked to the effect that they were so glad they didn't have to look at all those "pink and grey" posts anymore.

Then I noticed that EVERY SINGLE POST that didn't have a star was either "approved" or "promoted" by a poster who DID have a star.

IOW, it seems if you're not a "chosen" with the gold star, your posts can be wiped away without a trace by those with stars.

Too many with "admin" powers definitely spoil the "debate." It's like a big "whoo-hoo, you da man" fest there, mostly. Very, very few opposing posts.

Typical left-wing circle-jerk.

<edit: If I haven't mentioned it lately, the more I post on other blogs, the more I appreciate "coming home" to NB. The formatting and admin rules are simply THE BEST! Kudos, NB staff!>

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

There was a time that I

There was a time that I used to think that the reason why so many people didn't want to think or remember September 11th was that it was simply too hard.   How do you talk to an enemy who would rather fly planes into buildings because they are clearly delusional and are devoid of the honor or knowledge of the God they claim to serve? The answer is that you can't.  If you are dealing with a group who considers life in terms of conversion or death, you are going to have to face the fact they aren't going to give you a third option.  Not willingly and not without attempting the first two as much as they possibly can.  In the end, we were and are left with the eternal struggle of fighting something without having to resort to the worst case scenario.  There is no easy answer and it's human nature to want to avoid frustration or place it on someone you know will take it without truly hurting you in retaliation.

However, that rant was...way beyond the rational point of frustration.  More like text flailing ,but I guess it takes all kinds.

Yesterday, my son and I watched a documentary called "7 Days in September", which incidentally completely refutes what the Gawker author is trying to present as fact.  The documentary showed so many things, the initial anger and the grief that sometimes showed our  darker natures.  But it also showed people coming together because they couldn't and wouldn't think of doing anything else in a city that was supposed to be known for not being the easiest city to live in.   People still argued, still disagreed, but they weren't swayed from what they needed to do and they reached out to everyone because it was the right thing to do.   They showed the world that even when their hearts were broken, their spirit and their capacity for great things would never be broken.  That's what I think about when I think about 9/12 because that is the America I know and love. Not the grief or the anger and the loss, but the strength and the hope that people gave to one another without reservation.

Sorry about the book.  It just floors me to see that people who think that the days where we pulled together and stopped thinking about just ourselves or what the latest pop star/actor twit wore or said at a pointless award show could be considered terrorists.
