It’s better late than never, might be what vaccine manufacturers are thinking right now.
The pharmaceutical industry had maintained all along that there’s no proven link between a vaccine preservative called thimerosal and autism. CBS had been unwilling to concede that notion until last night.
“In health news tonight, new research finds no link between mercury in vaccines and autism in children,” Katie Couric said on the January 7 “Evening News.” “Suspicion had focused on a vaccine preservative called thimerosal, which contains mercury. Thimerosal was eliminated from most vaccines in 2001, but since then a study in
Back in June, “CBS Evening News” featured a story titled “Vaccines suspected in rise in autism rates.” CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reported on the hardships of the parents of an autistic child and their fight to win money from a federal fund for “vaccine damages.”
“Twelve-year-old Michelle Cedillo doesn't know it, but she's the center of a landmark case that started today in federal vaccine court, one that could open the door for thousands of autistic children to be paid by a government fund,” Attkisson said on the June 11, 2007, “CBS Evening News.” “The controversy: whether their autism was caused by their childhood shots.”
Seven months later, the study, supported through the California Department of Public Health according to a press release, got little fanfare. It got only a brief mention on “CBS Evening News,” despite CBS airing six stories over the past two-and-a-half years that sounded alarm bells over thimerosal, according to a Nexis search.
One CBS story, aired on July 15, 2005, included the ranting and ravings of environmental extremist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “The science connecting brain damage with thimerosal is absolutely overwhelming,” Kennedy said.

“The science connecting
January 8, 2008 - 15:28 ET by Troika37“The science connecting brain damage with thimerosal is absolutely overwhelming,” Kennedy said.
That's what Gore says about Global Warming... What is it about the left and 'science?' Why do they seem to have such a hard time grasping what the word actually means. It looks to me as if the left has appointed figureheads to spout some sort of nonsensical scare-tactic garbage, call it science, and refuse to debate the issue with actual scientists. Kennedy is clearly wrong on this issue and the MSM have bent over backwards to NOT mention it in their reporting. Only when they were backed into a corner by actual science did their story change.
It has to do with whether
January 8, 2008 - 15:42 ET by mattmIt has to do with whether it gives them an opportunity to make political hay. It really doesn't matter what the facts are, anything that can be spun as a problem only a Libocrat can solve will do.

Haven't listened to Imus
January 8, 2008 - 15:50 ET by JasonPHaven't listened to Imus since he's been back, but he was also on the front line of the assault on thimerosal and may continue to be. Wonder what he has to say about that now?
GMA this morning
January 8, 2008 - 16:02 ET by HermanoGMA talked about the study this morning. I did not pay attention to it that much so I do not know how much time they devoted to it or their slant. But they did talk about it.
Trial lawyers everywhere are crying.
January 8, 2008 - 16:06 ET by Dave in TexasThey had the story on CNN this morning, but it was brief and they only ran it once. Unlike the silicon breast implant scare, this time the trial lawyers and "news" media didn't get people to buy into their lies fast enough before it became obvious that there was never any problem to begin with.
“The science connecting brain damage with thimerosal is absolutely overwhelming,” Kennedy said.
Hmm. I guess Robert took a lot of thimerosal as a kid, listened to one of his TV interviews, and jumped to conclusions. ;)
But they'll still pick my pocket
January 8, 2008 - 16:18 ET by wizardjrYou just watch. Courts all over the land will still give out milllions in awards to people based on the previous junk science.
In cases where the government gave approval and subsequently it is proven to have caused harm, then the government should pay to help those harmed. That is the only way to move drugs efficiently into the market and yet protect or provide for the public.
And yet, we still have thousands of phony cases of breast implant suits, asbestiosis suits, etc. getting paid billions of dollars on scam evidence. Only Judge Jack seems to have declared that the emperor has no clothes.

What oh what?
January 8, 2008 - 16:38 ET by okiehawk44What are the global warming nuts going to do when the high levels of mercury in their new light bulbs start being blamed for, oh let me think, autism or cerebral palsy or whatever Kennedy suffers from other than being another genetic defect.
see you have it all wrong,
January 8, 2008 - 17:26 ET by red_dragon311see you have it all wrong, when mercury is found in medicine (i.e. drug companies using it) it is almost as bad as CO2.
when greenies (ie the spring lights bulb makers) use mercury, it the greatest thing, and only causes problems when used in non-green ways

It's the same old story, they drive by and spray the crowd with news bullets.... and then drive off after having created chaos... only to report on the chaos later as if they had no part in creating it...
Does anyone think we should begin to hold the media responsible for their stories if they are wrong? If a newspaper or a TV network has too many false stories in a year, they should lose their license to publish... or have to say before every report... "What we are reporting here is most likely wrong, so you can ignore what we say from here on out!"
