Geraldo: You Shouldn't Become Parent Unless Licensed By Government
Think your government has more than enough on its hands? Geraldo Rivera wants it to do so much more.
On his new WABC radio show Friday, Rivera cited an incident that day involving a Brooklyn mother suspected of killing her 3-year-old daughter, saying this (audio clips after page break) --
I swear to God, you talk about sickos, you talk about sickos. You should need to have a license to have a child. You should be vetted. I think I can't stand these stories. I've covered so many of these toddler-torture murders. It's just something that is unbelievable.
Minutes later, Rivera enthused over the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, followed by his criticism of the agency as destined to become a haven for patronage hacks (audio) --
You know, I like the idea of consumer protection, this new agency, for example, but I can just see what's going to happen. You're going to have all the secretaries that campaigned for Obama in this administration or Bush in the last administration or Romney or Obama or whoever it's going to be going forward, they're all going to get those coveted jobs, they're going to be assistant secretary to the secretary of the deputy of the this and that, and it's all going to be our tax money. It used to be, when I was a younger man, I used to think, you know, you know, let's throw money at this problem, let's fix this problem. And it's just when see the way government operates, government can do no right, almost.
Still like the idea of this new agency? How about licensing parents while we're at it?
Later on Friday, Rivera appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor" and got into an argument with Bill O'Reilly over Casey Anthony, as described by Brian Maloney at the Radio Equalizer (h/t for YouTube audio clip) --
Within a period of less than 12 hours the King of All Media Hackery jumped on Bill O'Reilly for being much too critical of (insert your own descriptive language here) Casey Anthony, but then told radio listeners he advocates government licensing and "vetting" of all prospective parents in America.
In Geraldo Bizarro World, it's give Casey the benefit of the doubt while real mothers and fathers are guilty until proven innocent. Could anything be nuttier?
Rivera passing himself off as a conservative comes to mind.

It's sad when a mother does this to her own child. There is no excuse for it.
However, it's also sad when a pedestrian parvenu takes to a microphone and pontificates on crap he knows nothing about. Grow a brain and some gonads and then maybe, just maybe you'll have room to talk.

Sure. Just look at how well government does everything else.

Five marraiges??? Five kids?? One illegitimate??? I can't figure who is stoooooooopider, the Grim Reaper or the dumb chicks!!
And this guy is saying what he said??? Do you think that he would qualify for any kind of 'license'?? The only thing different between him and your typical 'inner-city breeder' is that Jerry/Geraldo has money.

It's too bad it's so easy (and fun) to make a baby, but so hard to be a decent parent.
While I agree with the thrust of what Geraldo is getting at, the government is the last entity that should have that power. I'd be happy if we could go back to thumping someone else's brat on the head without the police and a lawyer showing up.
Wow. Just Wow.

And right there's the rub. This whole "parent licensing" thing would work exactly this way: The crappiest, most unqualified people would get "licensed" to have children -- whether because of government mandated quotas, political correctness, or just plain government ineptitude. The people who make decent parents (and don't forget about those dangerous right-wingers and Christians) would be the ones dragged off to camps to be forcibly sterilized. Mark my words.

Of course JERRY'S LAW wouldn't apply to undocumented world travelers, that'd be racist.
Dan Diego -- I don't know. Let's follow Geraldo's larger agenda

So a world traveler . . OK, an illegal alien from south of the border delivers a child while here illegally in the US.
According to Geraldo agenda, the baby is a US citizen, and since the baby is a US citizen, the parents should be allowed to become naturalized citizens - hence, they are reversed licensed.

Let's trace that logic
Submitted by mattm on Mon, 01/09/2012 - 10:36pm.
Let's trace that logic backward a bit and see where it leads.
Government license to become a parent.
To become a parent requires some form of sexual reproduction.
Other than artificial insemination, sexual reproduction requires sexual intercourse between a male and a female.
Government license to have sexual intercourse.
Hmmmm....
What next? Govt. sex nazis?
Submitted by Slyrr on Mon, 01/09/2012 - 11:58pm.
What happened to the old liberal memes:
'What people do in the bedroom is NONE of anyone's business!'
'As long as they're not hurting anyone, whatever they do is OK!'
'You can't stop people from having sex!'
'Abstinence is for losers!'
'You can't legislate sex!'
Libs usually used these tired saws whenever those darn Christians tried to keep condoms out of the classroom, or stop teachers from teaching kids how to 'do it' doggy-style, or keep porn off from TV programs. The Left and Demorats would go into screaming fits of rage, frothing that no one had the 'right' to stop them from teaching about sex, and that anyone who tried to stop teens from having sex was guilty of inflicting 'irreperable harm' on our fragile youth for trying to brutally suppress their 'beautiful, natural urges'.
Now ol' Geraldo's going all Mao, wanting to give the government the right to put Sex Nazi guards in everyone's bedrooms to make sure they don't 'do it' unless Obama's there smiling and nodding?
Now THAT would be powerful birth control. I don't think anyone could be in the mood if Obama and his nagging wife were there shouting orders while couples were trying to mate.

then so too can it license everything else.
Maybe those "permit" structures for owning/carrying firearms isn't such a good idea after all , huh NRA?
Wake up America. See that every right you thought you had has already been snaked away by this thing called government. Stand up and fight the largess, most especially with your vote (Yeah, that is licensed too) before there isn't even a illusion of rights lefts.
I just read where Geraldo supports licensing the ability to have a child. Yes, it really has gone that far. That will continue until people finally stand up and put a stop to it, just as the Founders and Framers did.
The answer is to hold government to within its enumerated boundaries - and not even one inch beyond them.
please notice

he didn't say that you should have a license to have children only to be a parent - I'm guessing that the state would take care of those children born to non-permitted parents.
