WaPo's Eugene Robinson Deludes Himself Into Believing Chris Christie Threatened Iowa Voters

By Jack Coleman | January 03, 2012 | 11:26

A  A

Warning: Frequent guest appearances on MSNBC can render a person predictable and disingenuous. Exhibit A: Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson.

There was Robinson schmoozing with guest host Melissa Harris-Perry on the Rachel Maddow show Friday about the looming Iowa caucuses. (video after page break)

Just before she introduced Robinson, Harris-Perry showed a clip of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stumping for Mitt Romney  --

HARRIS-PERRY: In a time when US military adventurism is big with Republican presidential candidates, Ron Paul is trying to win by standing on the opposite side of that platform. So that in part is Ron Paul's closing strategy right now. Mitt Romney's? East Coast-style fear and intimidation tactics. (sarcastically)

CHRISTIE: I want to tell you something really clearly. I'm in a good mood this morning. I'm feeling happy and upbeat. I love being with Mitt and Ann but let me tell ya, you people disappoint me on Tuesday (pause, laughter from crowd), you don't do what you're supposed to do on Tuesday for Mitt Romney, I will be back Jersey-style people (more laughter), I will be back.

HARRIS-PERRY: Jersey-style! If Chris Christie ultimately becomes somebody's running mate this year, prepare yourself for an entire summer and fall full of New Jersey Mafia jokes. Don't say you weren't warned.

But humorless hall monitor Robinson wasn't amused, even though the Iowa residents addressed by Christie clearly were, as seen by their smiles, laughter, and absence of nervous glances --

HARRIS-PERRY: All right, so the big question of the day -- can Mitt Romney turn Chris Christie's threats into votes? (sarcastically, again)

ROBINSON: You know, I'm not seeing it. Maybe, I understand Chris Christie's really popular in Iowa, he plays well out there, it just, the optics, to see it from a distance, to watch him essentially threaten the good folks of Iowa with some sort of Jersey-ness if they don't do what he says, doesn't strike me as the best way to win votes for Mitt Romney, but again, he's a popular figure, it's, frankly it's too soon to tell, believe it or not about the Iowa caucuses.

Mark your calendar -- this might be the first time an MSNBC leftist has described Republicans anywhere as "good folks."

Inexplicably, Robinson went the entire interview without alleging that Christie's "Jersey-ness" was racially motivated.

The Kool Aid Drinker

Mr. Eugene Robinson is a talking political poster, he has not said anything intellectual in a number of years. He works for a leftist brainwashing institution and is sitting on an MSNBC stage with direct access to the DNC propaganda machine.
Did you really expect anything sane to come out of his mouth?
Did you really think he would be capable of independent thoughts, in that situation?
Did you think he would have any factual information to discuss?
Did you really think he would know what factual information was?

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Let's try looking at it from Robinson's perspective.

Submitted by Mike Bratton on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 2:11pm.

If Robinson were to parse that statement of Christie's...

"I want to tell you something really clearly."

Oh, because they're not as intelligent as you are? So, you have to speak slowly and clearly so the voters will comprehend you.

"I'm in a good mood this morning."

Are they supposed to be relieved to hear that?  Would it be hazardous, dangerous, even deadly for them if you weren't in a good mood?

"I'm feeling happy and upbeat."

(Gasp!) Such violent language!  And equating happiness with beating someone up!

"I love being with Mitt and Ann..."

Aha!  And we thought Newt's affairs were horrible enough!

"...but let me tell ya, you people disappoint me on Tuesday (pause, laughter from crowd...,"

Ah.  "You people."  Clearly racial in tone.  And a plantation mentality, that the voters dare not "disappoint" Massa.

"...you don't do what you're supposed to do on Tuesday for Mitt Romney, I will be back Jersey-style people (more laughter), I will be back."

You know, having seen an episode of The Sopranos, it's obvious that "Jersey-style" is a clear threat to dispatch hit men to the homes of all Iowans who doesn't do they are "supposed to do" and have them murdered in their sleep.

Ow.  I have a headache from looking at this from Robinson's twisted perspective.

Would that require very much effort?

One thing I have learned (of many) about Prog/Libs....

Submitted by almostacowboy on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 12:45pm.

....is that they have little sense of humor, no sense of irony, and even less of self-awareness.

Case in point: Eugene Robinson

Case 2: My 30-something, downtown L.A. living, liberal (an understatement) step-daughter. I sent out an email containing a rather humorous (at least I thought) news item about a German man who was convicted of yodeling while his mooslem neighbors prayed. I'm not sure what he was convicted of, non-the-less, I thought (as did many of the recipients of the email) it was funny. My step-daughter on the other hand, replied, "There must be more to the story than that. I'm not going to comment."
Oh, well. Humor truly is subjective.

Just looked up that story. He was Austrian not German. You know they speak Austrian there. I guess it's now become a crime to practice things from Austrian heritage if it offends the moooslems, which are not Austrian by nature.

As to Eugene Robinson, he's a metro-sexual pansy that is probably scared of his own shadow.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson

Submitted by Conservator on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 2:30pm.

I read The Post everyday. Eugene Robinson was a far left-winger long before MSNBC launched. I do find it interesting the number of Washington Post columnists who appear on MSNBC daily and the fact that a number are actually fill-in anchors too.

Gene Robinson is Rev's Sharpton's man-crush.

Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 01/03/2012 - 3:11pm.

Anytime Eugene Robinson opens his mouth on television, get a shovel and some boots because the crap will get heavy and voluminous within seconds. He is the very model of the unctuous, obsequious Democrat toady just waiting to bow before those who pull his marionette strings. His last honestly original thought occurred right after he was seven years old.
