Maddow on Blame for Solyndra Debacle: Bush, Obama, Whatever

By Jack Coleman | September 28, 2011 | 19:39

A  A

Bankrupt solar panel maker Solyndra made a fleeting appearance on the Rachel Maddow show Monday night, just long enough for Maddow to assure her viewers that this too can be seen as Bush's fault.

Maddow did her best to put a shine on the situation, suggesting the Bush administration was at much at fault for considering Solyndra's application for a $535 million federal loan as the Obama administration was -- for approving it. (video after page break) --

To the extent that Washington's talking about alternative energy right now at all, that talk has to do with a failed government loan to a company called Solyndra, a maker of solar panels. In 2009 Solyndra got a loan for more than half a billion dollars from the US government. This month the company closed its plant, laid off more than a thousand people and went bankrupt. Congress called its top executives to testify last week on Capitol Hill. The executives took the Fifth.

You can argue the Solyndra case any number of ways, whether President Bush was responsible for it since the loan started under him, or whether you want to blame President Obama, whether either administration should have known better to lend to Solyndra or whether this was just a bad bet in one of those public-private partnerships that are never a sure thing, but that nevertheless elected officials are always saying we need more of.

"Whether either administration should have known better" -- in other words, equal culpability for both. Unfortunately for Maddow, the administration that didn't know better was the one led by Barack Obama and Joe Biden. That's why clips of both men touting Solyndra's alleged capacity for job creation are only clicks away at YouTube while one will search in vain for George W. Bush and Dick Cheney gushing on the same subject.

More from Maddow on Solyndra --

Solyndra made headlines last week in the latest round of funding for rural electrification. It's of course the dirty word of clean energy anymore. And this week the conservative weekly The Weekly Standard put President Obama on its cover as 'President Solyndra.' That's what they want to call him, trying to reduce his whole presidency to one loan to one failed maker of solar panels.

Maddow deserves credit for even mentioning Solyndra, sensitive subject that it must be at MSNBC, though her doing so was out of character. More than two weeks have passed since Republicans won special elections to fill House vacancies in New York and Nevada -- and the seldom-tongue tied Maddow still hasn't uttered a word about it.

Educated idiot.....

Submitted by adamsmith on Thu, 09/29/2011 - 8:53am.

I remember thinking twenty five years ago whilst attending University that so many of the Professors were men and women who while brilliant in their respective fields had basically educated themselves STOOPID. Academia has a way of doing that. This Maddow chuckle head is Tokyo Rose, Leni Riefenstahl, and Josef Goebbels all rolled into one. To watch her "reporting" lately, it's like listening to German radio in the '30's. There's no excuse covering Obamalinsky and the Progressives that is too ridiculously stupid. Same goes for Ed the Red, he spins so hard, he could drill himself to China. He's a bigger Smear Artist though, his entire show is smearing right of center, propping up Obamalinsky with one lie after another. If I were a lefty(Thank God I have a functioning brain able to use common sense as well as any acquired education to avoid that mental disorder) I wouldn't be able to watch that ridiculously stupid network that does receive daily instruction on what to "report" from the White House. It's a network like this that is causing the nation to deteriorate, a free society needs a free press. This is not a free press, it's Communist indoctrination. As Maddow sees everything in life as a struggle for lesbians, I would venture to say that 99% of her audience is militant Progressive Communist Lesbians. Who else could watch that crap?

"whether either administration should have known better to lend to Solyndra".

Really. So Madcow is Scorning the Bush Administration for the Solyndra Bankruptcy when The Bush Administration refused to give a loan to them So it's Bush's fault that Obama inherited a non-loan but loaned them the money anyways.

Even a toddler says they cannot be fooled by the Madcow.

Submitted by Galvanic on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 10:46pm.

MADDOW: ". . . You can argue the Solyndra case any number of ways, whether President Bush was responsible for it since the loan started under him, . . ."

The "loan" did not start under Bush. Solyndra applied for the loan under a program begun by the Bush Administration, but days before leaving office, the Bush Administration recognized that Solyndra was a bad investment, and suspended the process indefinitely.

MADDOW: ". . . or whether you want to blame President Obama, whether either administration should have known better to lend to Solyndra . . . "

Whoa! The Bush Administration did know better -- IT SUSPENDED SOLYNDRA'S REQUEST INDEFINITELY! It was Obama that went ahead with it despite warnings from Treasury Secretary Geithner and Larry Summers that it was an extremely bad risk. Perhaps the company's CEO's campaign donations were an influence.

MADDOW: ". . . or whether this was just a bad bet in one of those public-private partnerships that are never a sure thing, but that nevertheless elected officials are always saying we need more of."

ELECTED OFFICIALS?!!! MSNBC has been touting the need for Federal investment in green industry since before Obama was elected! Obama did exactly what MSNBC wanted him to do, and in doing so, proved once again that when government picks winners and losers in commercial business, it tends to pick the losers because it's the losers that pump campaign money into political parties for just such favoritism.

M.S.S.R. - Lean Marxist

Submitted by djwolf12 on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 10:57pm.

This is a red herring. It is a fact that the loan was turned down by the Bush Administration before he left office. Obama picked up the ball on this and ran with it so Madcow is just trying to put a lame "sympathetic" spin on this story to deflect negativity from Obama's flaming incompetence onto Bush to which he had nothing to do with. Sadly for Madcow, the public isn't buying your dogfood anymore. At some point Obama needs to be held responsible for what he is doing to screw up this country. The lapdogs at M.S.S.R. (MSLSD) look pathetic trying to cover for Obama when the whole country knows this had Obama's fingerprints on this can of crap.

Let's face it, had the Bush Administration approved the loan, the Obama Administration wouldn't have had to deal with it. Since they didn't, and the Obama Administration did, they're getting unfairly blamed for it. You just don't understand the new dynamic in Washington D.C. since January 2009. When you have the press behind you, you can say and do anything.

Considering it? All the way over to the circular filing cabinet! LOL ROFLMAO! I considered becoming an Airline pilot so now, according to Maddow, I'm an Airline pilot.

BTW, The “loan” Solyndra wanted and got from Obama was not in the 2005 energy act! Look it up. Obama ADDED loan guarantees.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Pub.L. 109-58) General provisions Under an amendment in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Section 406, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 authorizes loan guarantees for innovative technologies that ..................................energy;

To the extent that Washington's talking about alternative energy right now at all, that talk has to do with a failed government loan to a company called Solyndra, a maker of solar panels.

Lets see, hum, Over a Half BILLION taxpayers dollars gone, with nothing to show.

A loan Solyndra did not qualify for.

A loan that had been turned down cold by the Bush Admin.

A loan that the Obama Admin retrieved from the circular filing cabinet.

A loan that the Obama Admin approved knowing it had already been rejected and knowing his own people told him it will fail.

They even told Obama the date that Solyndra would fail and go bankrupt! A loan that Obama altered to ensure his cronies got paid fist WHEN Solyndra failed, went bankrupt!

The FBI raiding Solyndra's office. Solyndra's CEO, CFO both plead the 5th so they don't implicate themselves in the crimes. And that now the White House is stonewalling the investigation! BTW ya stupid twit NONE of this has a dame thing to do with alternative energy, it has every thing to do with corruption, fraud, cover up, political Cronyism !
