Maddow Claims Perry 'Put to Death' Convicted Killers in Texas

By Jack Coleman | September 15, 2011 | 17:01

A  A

Ah, this would explain the blood on his hands.

Rachel Maddow continues her yeoman's work as propagandist for Democrats, dishonestly attributing power over sentencing in Texas murder cases to Gov. Rick Perry instead of with juries where it actually resides. (video after page break)

Here's Maddow on her MSNBC show Tuesday night, all but accusing Perry of single-handedly dispatching death-row inmates --

Texas is killing two more of its prisoners this week, including one that was killed already today. Thirty-one-year-old Steven Michael Woods Jr. was killed at 6:22 p.m. local time in Huntsville tonight. That's the 235th person Rick Perry has put to death in his time as Texas governor, more than any other governor in modern US history.

Not only does Perry lack the authority to execute by decree as suggested by Maddow, he cannot grant clemency without approval from the state's Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Woods was convicted for murdering two people -- in May 2001, more than a decade ago. In the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, Maddow did refrain from describing the case as a rush to judgment, so there's that.

As Perry stated in the tea party debate, Texas has an appellate process after convictions for murder. What Perry did not mention is that this process is automatic. That's why it routinely takes a decade or longer for convicted murderers to be put to death, even in law-and-order bastions such Texas.

For example, the second death-row inmate to be executed in Texas this week, Duane Buck, committed his crimes -- another double murder -- back in 1995. I can't help but wonder how many of the survivors of Buck's victims have already died before he suffers the consequences of his actions.

To paraphrase Brian Williams's question to Perry during the debate, has Maddow ever struggled to sleep at night in anguish over victims of violent crime -- or only for its perpetrators?

Put to death a convicted mass

Submitted by ThisnThat on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 5:19pm.

Put to death a convicted mass murderer (more than one is mass, to me)? No way -- protect their "right" to live at any cost, say these brain-dead libs.

Stop killing hundreds of thousands of babies every year? No way -- say these same brain-dead libs. Anyone who listens to these people are also brain-dead.

Maddow will never cry over

Submitted by ForeverOnTheRight on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 5:18pm.

Maddow will never cry over the deaths of the thousands of aborted babies whose innocence is undeniable. Yet a convicted murderer who has at least a decade to prove innocence and afforded as much justice, she defends and fusses over. Then she lies about who is responsible. This is pure political propaganda.

Right is never wrong, Left is never right.

Those killers commit crimes

Submitted by rbosque on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 5:24pm.

Those killers commit crimes against innocent citizens, does she not care that justice will finally be served for the victims including the families? Of course people like Maddow are routinely divorced from reality and think that crimes don't have consequences, even for the relatives who must suffer for the loss of a family member.

Maddow should lay off the medication and for once investigate the very thing she claims to be reporting on. Otherwise, all she does is parrot left-wing bumbersticker slogans and catchphrases to cater to the few disturbed people that still watch her "show".

Too much credit

Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 5:26pm.

Madcow is giving Perry too much credit.  It's TEXAS putting to death these bastards on death row.   Hell, she mentions that at the start of that and then try to turn it on Perry?  Puh-LEEZ!

I really need to save that video of his first debate where he answers Williams question, not to mention the look on his face where he looked like he wanted to drop a brick.

ULTIMATE JUSTICE!  Gotta love it.

As I watched Rachel Last night

Submitted by Ashrak on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 5:38pm.

I noticed some serious WMD hypocrisy.

She was thanking and praising the FBI for the conviction of a "white supremacist's" backpack guilty plea and conviction for "attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction".

She went on, in detail, to describe the WMD itself, complete with pictures of the backpack and even pictures of receipts for the "fishing weights" purchased to function ans "shrapnel". Her description of what lead weights were for was hilarious. Interestingly, there was no complaint about lead poisoning the environment.....but I digress.

Like Rachel's tax cut waffling, she was quick to tout the success of they ways and means used to catch the user of what herself explains was a weapon of mass destruction. But I guess what Saddam had, and used, was more innocuous than one simple pipe
bomb in a backpack - that didn't even go off.

Yeah, how about all those IEDs, Rach?

Is there no end to the ways this Rachel character is willing to embarrass herself?

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

We carry out executions in TX. So what?

Facts are sooooo inconvenient to Rachel.

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 7:57pm.

Yes, Texas does execute its convicted prisoners that juries have sentenced to death. No, Rick Perry can't commute those sentences without approval of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, and the governor can only issue a single 30-day stay.

All of this was passed by Democrat-controlled state legislatures in response to corruption by Democrat governors doing things like selling pardons and commutations. The legislature has never seriously considered repealing the death penalty in Texas even when it was controlled by Democrats.

Rachel's mind is a desert wasteland where facts are concerned.

more lib logic

Submitted by Tjexcite on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 8:06pm.

Under this logic not only is Perry responsable but SCOTUS, Texas justice, Texas Courts and the people of Texas all have blood on their hands when they "put to death" this killer. .

Maddow and the like would attack Perry the same way if a Willie Horton shows up. How could he let out a killer to kill again. That is why, well one reason why Huck bowed out, he did have a Willie Horton in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Clemmons

Unless Perry took a pay cut, and became an executioner, he hasn't put anyone to death.  What a  moron.

Hay, Maddow, since each and every executed person was charge, tried, and convicted in FEDERAL court for FEDERAL offenses, guess who's ultimately to blame for those executions? I didn't notice Obama giving any of them clemency, which he has the power to grant, did you?

More (il)liberal (il)logic on display

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 1:34pm.

By Ms(?) Madcow's analysis (emphasis on the "anal" part, as in head-way-up-the)...

The One, The Only, Ozymandias-on-the-Potomac is personally responsible for having personally(!) put to death a trio of poor, desperate, youthful misunderstanders of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage -- er, um, I mean -- Peace (yeah, peace, that's it!) who provided true Muslim hospitality to a mean, greedy, baby-killing merchant ship Captain in that little lifeboat, yet were cold-bloodedly executed. (Surely the SEAL sniper teams had little to do with that, as we all know.)

Plus, by extension, Ozoneman therefore has his own fingerprints on the trigger of all of those ongoing, actively Oval-Office-approved drone bomb and missile strikes vaporizing Al Qaida leadership.

Then there's the figurative mounted trophy head of good ol' Osammie been-dead-for-awhile-now Ladin,  now serenely feeding the fishies on the ocean bottom.  Obambi has long been proudly touting his own leadership in that little adventure (oh yeah, a handful of SEALs had some minor supporting roles in that one, too, I seem to remember).

Didn't know cows routinely barked at the moon, but Ms(?) Madcow proves it beyond any shadow of doubt.
