The Chicago way indeed.

Listen to a caller to Ed Schultz's radio show on Tuesday for an example of how liberals were unhinged by the offyear elections before results were even announced (click here for audio) --

SCHULTZ: John in Chicago, you're on the Ed Schultz show, thanks for calling.

CALLER:  Ed, I am out of my mind with anger and frustration. We gotta tell these Democrats to sack up and grow a pair because this is not what I voted for, I know it's not what you voted for, I know it's not what any of my progressive friends voted for. The difference between the progressives of the '60s, the peace and love, and the progressives of today is that we are gun-totin', we are angry and we're not afraid to take a punch. These Democrats are pissed, they are angry because the Democrats, those weak-ass, water-filled, pantywaist Democrats in Washington, they're not willing to not even take a punch! They're afraid they're going to get hit and they're going to bleed.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Well guess what? That's not what makes this country great. What makes this country great is that you've got people out there that are willing to stand up and take a hit because they know it's right. And if we don't pass health care, it's not gonna because, it's not gonna be because we don't have the intestinal fortitude, the grapes, to get up and say, you know what?, Joe Lieberman, you're gone! It doesn't matter! It doesn't matter if we need the 60 votes. You know what? We'll get 'em next time around because this is too important.

Better to go down and choke the rivers with our dead than to win nothing.

Lemme guesse, who's the caller quoting -- the Rev. Jim Jones? Kurtz from "Heart of Darkness"? Hitler in his bunker?

Did Schultz rein in the caller -- and risk derailing a buffoonish, bellicose soulmate? Heck no! (click here for audio of second clip, with overlap from end of first clip) --

CALLER:  Better to go down and choke the rivers with our dead than to win nothing.

SCHULTZ: I'm starting to think that the president is somewhat archaic in his view on how to get things done in Washington.

CALLER: I, this is not, this is not what LBJ would have done. LBJ would have threatened every single one of their jobs. He would have gone down there, he says, you're going to do it my way or else you're going to get your, you're going to be updating your resume come the middle of November. This is ridiculous! Because the Republicans would never do this. The Republicans would essentially put everybody in a room and say, you're going to vote our way or else you're going to end up in the bottom of the political river!

SCHULTZ: What do you want Obama to do with Joe Lieberman?

CALLER: I want Obama to tell Harry Reid to take him out to the woodshed and make sure there's no skin left on his ass.

SCHULTZ: You want to, you want to just tell him that, look, it's been real, Joe, but it ain't real any more (crosstalk) And your chairmanship is gone and I'm gonna come out and rip your ass and I'm going to let you have it and you're going to vote this way or what, you know. You think he should do that?

CALLER:  I think he should go out and he should say to Joe Lieberman, Joe, it's been real but now, you've crossed us one too many times, you showed us up one too many times. Because really, it's not in some, victory is important, but it is more important that we create the brand, they talk about the Republican brand, when you talk about the Democratic brand, and get away from this (with heavy sarcasm), oh we're, we just, you know, we want to make sure that everybody's OK. Screw everybody! (Schultz chuckles)

Elections have consequences, we won, everybody else can sit down! Thank you very much for playing, Joe Lieberman. You're either on the winning team or you're on the opposing team and you are, you're finished, you're done. So, I would, if I was President Obama, I'd say Joe, you either vote our way or I'm going to make sure that you are out of a job in your next election. And until then you have absolutely no power. You might as well be sweeping the floors of the Senate, Joe, because you are persona non grata in the Senate. So we got 59 votes, that's fine, we'll move on.

SCHULTZ: Good to have you on, John, appreciate your call. Stay with us, folks, so much more coming up on a very emotional day.

Ever notice how often liberals denigrate those they claim to protect -- "You might as well be sweeping the floors of the Senate ..."

Schultz was so enamored of the caller's sentiments that he used them in a promo on his radio show yesterday (here for audio) --

SCHULTZ: Stay with us, this is where America comes to talk, the Ed Schultz show.

ANNOUNCER: Ed Schultz, where America comes to talk!

CALLER: ... Those weak-ass, water-filled, pantywaist Democrats in Washington, they're not willing to not even take a punch!

What with its potential for tying them in nots!

"Gun-toting progressives"?

"Gun-toting progressives"? "Better to go down and choke the rivers with our dead than to win nothing"? And the government thinks I'm dangerous.

CALLER needs to go back on his meds.

OBAMA = One Big Ass Mistake, America!

Gun toting progressives?

In Chicago?

Don't they still have a gun ban in effect?

"Beware the fury of the patient man." - John Dryden

well!

Too bad they weren't willing to take up arms when they were in college in the 60's.

Sam: "I hurt somebody's feelings once"

Short memories

The caller and host seem to have short memories.  The Dems already tried to take Joe out during the last election and Joe kicked their butts.  If my public school math serves, Joe has another 6 years while "the one" has only half that long (we hope).

Obama has already tried that with Joe Lieberman

It didn't work. Remember when Obama was physically threatening with Joe on the Senate floor and it was caught on tape?

Threats and intimidation do not work on people of character.

Sorry, but thanks for playing caller!

Our elected representatives have failed us.

Democrats...

This is typical leftist mentality. Politics is sport for these people, they're just cheerleaders. They have absolutely no idea how harmful to a democratic Republic their insane marxist ideas really are. It's only later when everything is destroyed that they come back with, "Well, we had good intentions." Good intentions are no substitute for solid governance and governance based on the Constitution....

LBJ vs. BHO

Whatever your views on LBJ, he was a master parliamentarian. Maybe the best in American history. He became minority leader after only four years in the Senate. Two years after that he was majority leader. He had over a decade of legislative leadership and accomplishments by the time he became president. Obama has no such record or skill. In both the Illinois legislature and the Senate his main contribution was to vote present. Glad that another incompetent is the majority leader now. LBJ would get this health care bill through the Senate if he was the majority leader today.

It must have been "open

It must have been "open phone day" at the "Institution for the Violently Insane". Of course, Schultz will take any calls he can get...

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Not that it needs to be said...

1) As a so-called "progressive" he gets a free pass. Had he been a conservative... yeah, we all know what would've happened.

2) Sure, this guy demands the government threaten people's jobs now. Who wants to bet he thought it would've been evil had the last administration do it? And who also wants to bet that's going to be the last thing he wants in the next administration?

Some of these liberals who call themselves "progressives" really are all about power and nothing more. It's pathetic to watch.

First of all, writing a

First of all, writing a blog story suggesting that one anonymous, deranged caller-in to a talk show is representative of anything is beyond irresponsible.  It is, in fact, the very sort of fallacious implication that NB is supposedly combating.

Second, if we're taking such behavior to be indicative of entire ideological demographics, here's a pretty strong corollary; and here we have not some anonymous malcontent, but a man who is reaping millions as the de facto leader of various hard-right-under-the-guise-of-centrism social movements.  Now, should I assume that all people who identify with the right are hysterical, foaming-at-the-mouth lunatics who can't answer a simple, straightforward question, based on this?  I would think not.

Finally, isn't it just the slightest bit possible that this caller was a confederate?  After all, any time a Town Meeting participant made a statement that was more hateful or deluded or reductio ad Htilerum than normal, it seems as though the conservative response was generally to brand the person a leftist plant.

Right, except that ...

... Schultz using an excerpt from the call for a promo the next day demonstrated that he considers the caller's remarks representative of Schultz's views.

I think it is interesting...

that Jason considers this person to be deranged.

It sounds to me like this person has convictions and is frustrated when he views his leadership letting him down on implementing those convictions.  After watching the Republican leadership squander everything we as conservatives have worked for, I can sympathize with him.  He is angry over lost opportunities.

I think the point of the blog was not the rant of the caller, but the unquestioned acceptance of Shultz of his arguments.

I am sorry that Glenn Beck is successful and that financial benefits come with that success.  I think it is interesting that Jason shows us a clip of Glenn going balastic over the stupidity of a caller who has obviously never listened to his program... one that is just repeating talking points that lie about his positions.  Had she attempted to put forth intelligent, thought out positions, he would have been respectful and attempted to refute her position where she disagreed with him.  He has no respect for people who put words in his mouth, then disparage him for those words... I think I would be a little upset too.

Not only does Jason think this guy is deranged... he thinks he is a confederate.  As a son of the south, I resent that terminology.  Confederates fought for freedom from the tyranny of the north... just as we fight today for freedom from the tyranny of the nanny state.  He uses the word to imply dishonesty.

If Jason really believes this guy is deranged and dishonest, he should switch sides.  Otherwise, he should realize we are not stupid enough to believe his protests.

Beat me to the punch.

Beat me to the punch.  Thanks.

what a moronic statement.

First, it was Mr. Ed's show that produced the content.  That jack@ss decided to put him on the air after screening his call.

Second, if he wans't " indicative of entire ideological demographics", Mr. Ed wouldn't have used the horse's @ss to drive home a point.

Finally, if the "caller was a confederate", Mr. Ed would have used him to belittel, berate and mock conservatives.

What abundantly stupid points you made.

gun-totin' Progressive...John in Chicago,...CALLER:

...John in Chicago,...CALLER:  ...The difference between the progressives of the '60s, the peace and love, and the progressives of today is that we are gun-totin', we are angry and we're not afraid to take a punch...

Wrong, your counterparts in the '60s and '70s were (like you) nasty, hate-filled, angry, and mentally unbalanced.  As to "willing to take a punch", they often insighted violence.  Aren't you from Chicago?

---------------------------------------

[John]: ...What makes this country great is that you've got people out there that are willing to stand up and take a hit ... And if we don't pass health care,...

What makes this country great is Freedom from government interference in our personal lives, Our Unalienable Rights to Life, Liberty and Property.  Only a totalitarian fascist would support government health care.
---------------------------------------

[John]: ... LBJ would have threatened every single one of their jobs. He would have gone down there, he says, you're going to do it my way or else you're going to get your, you're going to be updating your resume come the middle of November...

That was exactly the message from the 2009 elections.  Americans are saying, "Congress, do you really want to be out of work in this economy? If you support Obama's agenda, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SEATS!"  And the Senators and Representatives damn well better listen.

Three words to the caller

BRING IT ON!

I would like nothing more than to watch the Democrat party destroy itself from within. Where can I buy some tickets and popcorn?

BRING IT ON!

I'll second that!!!

"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."
George Mason

I don't think the caller is really the point

Of course, he was rabid and NOT representative of the majority or probably very many people in the whole country.  As I read this, I got the point being that Schultz enjoyed what he was saying and continued it without any sensible comment.  Virtually agreeing with everything the guy said.  There are those who speak on every extreme.  Key word...extreme.  For me it is about hypocrisy.  Constantly saying that when someone else does something, it is wrong, then turning around and doing the same thing.  Absurd.

"So, I would, if I was President Obama . . . . "

"I'd say Joe, you either vote our way or I'm going to make sure that you are out of a job in your next election."

That worked pretty well in New Jersey and Virginia a few days ago.

If LBJ is their hero, that

If LBJ is their hero, that just about says it all.  Nothing like getting a promotion by assassination.

erm?

So a dem wants to make sure that all other dems tow the leftist line and nothing but. Fair enough. A republican wants to make sure they are putting up true conservatives and that is being narrow minded.

Got it makes perfect sense to me.
