Hypocrisy, meet Ed Schultz ... What's this, you're already well acquainted?
The nation's top-rated liberal radio host has spent plenty of time this month pitching in favor of the feds lending $25 billion to the ailing Big Three automakers.
Schultz has also been bellicose toward those who disagree with him, singling out Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama for scorn. Here's what Schultz said Tuesday after playing a clip of Shelby describing his rationale for opposing a bailout of Detroit --
SCHULTZ: Just keep in mind, that voice, his party got their ass kicked. He doesn't know what he's talking about. Sen. Shelby from Alabama is protecting interests out of this country. He's an outsourcer. And he's trying to cover it up by bringing in foreign manufacturing to his own state. It is his mission to kill the Big Three ... Look, you're either for American manufacturing, you're either for the middle class, or you're not. I have said this at every union speech I've ever given and been in front of any crowd, you're either with us or you're against us. Sen. Shelby from Alabama is a terrorist on the American worker. He is a terrorist on wage workers.
Yes, Schultz actually talks like that. This is what a strict diet of raw meat and Red Bull will do to a man.
What puts Schultz's remarks over the top is that ... wait for it ... he doesn't drive an American vehicle. Heck no, not Big Ed, as he let slip on Nov. 12 (click here for audio) --
SCHULTZ: Toyota makes a good product, I drive one, you know. I mean, c'mon now, we've drive Fords, we've driven GMs, we drive all kinds of vehicles.
When it came to Schultz acquiring his current vehicle, Ford and GM in their hour of peril didn't t make the cut, but Toyota suited him dandy.
If Shelby is a "terrorist" against American workers by Schultz's reckoning, isn't Schultz aiding and abetting "terrorism" by buying a foreign vehicle?
Note how Schultz also relies on an Orwellian definition of outsourcing in propping up his case against Shelby. The Alabama Senator is an "outsourcer" because he's "bringing" foreign manufacturing to Alabama. But as often the case, Schultz gets it backwards. Outsourcing occurs when foreign manufacturers "bring" American jobs abroad to their countries, not when American politicians compel foreign manufacturers to "bring" their companies to the US.
Notice also how easily Schultz slips into the language of "you're either with us or you're against us," which liberals like him otherwise consider repugnant when used in reference to actual terrorists.
A possible explanation for Schultz's willingness to look far, far beyond the Big Three in his automotive preferences comes to mind. Back in July, Schultz spent considerable time harping on Ford Motor Company's inflexibility in renegotiating a lease for his Ford F150 pickup (click here for audio) --
Well, has Ford considered, maybe I like the truck? Have they considered that maybe we need the truck and don't want to go through the hassle of leasing another one or buying another one right now? That there's absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle. And wouldn't it be a good thing if I were to continue payments on that vehicle? Oh no, we gotta turn it back in. They're tight as a drum on this stuff, all the paperwork. Send a guy out, they, I mean, they go through the whole thing and they value it, this dent, that scar, scratch, whatever, this that and the other, mileage, and they inspect it and then they sign off on it. And then you gotta turn it back in.
I'm saying that I think that one of the reasons why Ford is losing a bunch of money on their lease portfolio is because they're not going to customers like me, big fat Eddie, and saying, hey, would you like, what do you say we extend this for a year? I looked at the contract, that's not in there. It's either turn it back in or buy the damn thing at $24,000, which I'm not going to do.
So now Ford's going to take a bath on the truck that I leased a few years ago because the market's turned around, but nowhere in there have they asked me, you know what, hey, dial 1-800 and we'll give you some options. They don't have that. And they can sit there and turn and say to the American people, well, we only lost $8 billion in the last quarter and it's because we got a bad lease portfolio, but they're not doing anything. I can tell you, I can give you testimony that they're not doing anything to change that. And so their second-quarter loss was $3.88 a share. Anybody like that?
And so when you start talking about, well, it's the damn unions, Ed! It's their health care! You know, that's one of the reasons why we can't build any damn cars in this country, it's the labor costs too much. Let me tell you something, folks, in my opinion and I'm just a consumer and I don't know everything about the car business, but you know what? It looks to me like they got some slow-reacting boneheads in the front office that have no communication with their customer base other than to send me some options, this is what you signed, this is the way it is, you want to buy the truck? No? Turn it back in, we're sending it back to the guy out there to check it out. By the way, it's got to be at the dealership by the 17th of August. End of story. They walked themselves right into a loss.
Enough so to make a prairie populist like Schultz turn to Toyota.

I don't blame Ford at all...
November 20, 2008 - 17:00 ET by Saint ZeroFor turning this psycho down. I doubt they honestly care who he is, but even if they had him marked I'm glad they did.
One thing the big three should be scared of are automakers who have told Unions to get bent. We've got plenty in the South these days, and they're all here because Unions aren't that welcome.
Liberals and their support of the union.
November 20, 2008 - 17:20 ET by 5kidsnadogIsn't there someone out there who could commission a study, a survey, something that would detail the buying habits of the left vs. the right? I would love to see who actually puts their money behind union products rather than just their mouths. Don't you think it would be interesting to see???
Terms of Lease????
November 20, 2008 - 17:21 ET by Pilgrim1949Akin to the folks who feigned utter ignorance of what the term "Adjustable" might mean for their ARM mortgages, this blowhard wants to have an exception made for him to relieve him of his obligation towards the terms of the lease HE WILLINGLY SIGNED. I'm sure he would not so willingly agree to Ford Motor Company's desire to change THEIR end of the lease on a whim, to serve their convenience. No, of course not! That wouldn't be sporting at all.
Yup, typical Lib --- rules apply to thee, but not to me; the universe revolves around and exists solely for the pleasure of the trinity consisting of Me, Myself, and I.

Windows XP and Vista comes with a Firewall
November 20, 2008 - 20:27 ET by PopularTechYou don't need to install a firewall, Windows XP and Vista already come with one that is perfectly fine.
AVG or Avast are fine, more importantly, if you are using Windows XP make sure to install Windows Defender (already included in Vista).
All you need for protection is an AntiVirus Program (AVG or Avast), Windows Defender and the XP or Vista Firewall turned on.

Malware other than Viruses are a bigger problem today
November 20, 2008 - 20:49 ET by PopularTechViruses are not as bad a problem today, which is why Windows Defender is so much more important, since Internet infections like Spyware, Trojans and Rootkits are much more common. Windows Defender will provide realtime protection from these threats and it is maintained by Microsoft.
FACT: 89% of consumer PCs are infected with spyware
IMO having Microsoft Windows Defender installed is more important than an Antivirus program.
Also make sure AFTER you have cleaned your system that you install ALL the security updates from Windows Update, especially Service Pack 3.

I have lost everything including my two live in girlfriends. My portfolio was worth over three million dollars only one year ago---now it is worthless. My creditors have been hounding me day and night and I had to disconnect my phone service in order to get some sleep. All I am left with is 75 hundred dollars. I blame my stock broker for advising me to invest all my hard earned money in the auto industry. Instead of killing myself I have started over again by begging in a parking lot. We all learn from experience and what I have learned is to keep my money under a king size mattress.

As to the Big 3
November 20, 2008 - 18:22 ET by littlemissmuffinI don't feel it's the Big 3's fault they are going under, even tho I do NOT support the bailout. The unions destroyed these companies. Of course the dems want to protect their beloved unions at all costs! At one time the unions were good for the workers, but not anymore. All the unions have to say is: Gimme, gimme, gimme your money, honey!
"If we conservatives moved to those seven non-existent States, the government couldn’t find us and tax us to death!"
Contradictions
November 20, 2008 - 18:44 ET by jaywlOne fact always is admitted by all about the Big Three. The cost of retirees health insurance is just killing them. Well! Why haven't we heard the simple solution that Obama wants for all Americans. Why haven't they proposed the federal govmint take over the health insurance for the retirees, or even for all current employees. The facts are that ObamaCare would have to be better than what they presently have. After all, it would be equal to Congress' plan, I'm not proposing putting them in Medicare/Medicaid here. Obama says we can afford to cover 46 million presently uninsured, so adding only this group would cost a fraction of what The One has said we can afford. So why hasn't this been proposed? It would cost less than unending bailouts and would get the companies on an equal cost-per-car basis with all the unencumbered "foreign" domestic makers. Or would it? Is the cost of a fraction of Obama's 46 million so prohibitive that people a lot smarter than me have thought about it and quietly shelved it?
Kill The Patient???
November 20, 2008 - 20:09 ET by bpjamThe only thing worse than letting health care kill off the Big 3 is to put that cost on all the rest of us and kill all health care for the rest of the country.
When The Obama was talking about 'average' plan for a family of four costing $12,500 he is talking about the UAW plan or the Congressional/Federal Employee plan which is essentially a gold plated plan. NOBODY can afford to put all Americans on this plan.
Obama is simply retarded if he thinks that there is some cost offset which would make it possible to give away this highly, highly subsidized health plan for Federal lottery winners (employees) to the rest of America. That much money doesn't exist.
Think of this. The estimated cost of the Federal obligation for future pension, retirement, health care, etc, costs of existing and past Federal Employees in the future is somewhere around $44,000,000,000,000. That's 44 with a TRILLION after it. If all the currency of every nation in the entire world were all brought to the same bank, there wouldn't be enough money to pay for what we've already promised the bureaucrats who we've already hired!!
The Big 3 just did for their employees what Congress did for Federal Employees. But since nobody can force Congress to file for Bankruptcy for the Federal government, there is no way for us to get out of this hole. But adding people into the health plan makes it worse, not better. And there is no more money to bail out UAW retirees either. There literally is no more money.

November 20, 2008 - 18:48 ET by tonemeisteraccording to our local "and very large" ford dealer. there is money available to buy vehicles. only, no buyers. whether it's no one wanting to take on debt or they just don't like the selection he didn't say. probably both. ford europe makes cars that they could sell here tomorrow. hi milage and great styling...as a matter of fact the rest of the big three have european divisions that make hi milage cars.which i suspect people are holding out for. finally people aren't being short sighted ie. buying suv's again even though the price of gas has dropped.it was an old saying "whats good for gm is good for the country". gm forced the local goverments to abandon good public transportation in favor of gm/ detroit diesel powered buses after wwii....what ever you send out returns five fold...

November 20, 2008 - 19:32 ET by RR GOPI wouldn't be so quick to blame the unions. I've bought foreign and American and the prices never seemed any different to me. Think of all the major companies that have gone under throughout the years that had nothing whatsoever to do with unions.
Yes, I am a union member (not UAW, though), no I don't make anywhere near what these people do, and yes I think they get paid way too much for what they do.
But, this is supposed to be a free-enterprise, capitalist system. We are supposed to try to get as much wealth as we can for ourselves (morally and legally of course). To sit back and let someone pay us what they feel like and do nothing, to me anyway, smacks of Socialism.
One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.
The only reason
November 20, 2008 - 22:50 ET by TailgunnerThe only reason corporations pay any attention to union demands is the credible threat of extortion by forcible plant shutdowns followed by violence and intimidation of suppliers and replacement labor.
No matter how you sugarcoat it, unions operate by the express or implied threat of extortion, force and intimidation. Members and management are equally victims. When the union says to strike, the member has no choice. This is an obscenity that is driving jobs out of the country.
Obama's 'card check' union intimidation plan will send even more jobs overseas. It will be too late for the Obama voter when he realizes he has voted his job away.

No CEO talent would touch the Big 3
November 20, 2008 - 20:01 ET by bpjamAny executive with enough experience to run a company like these three dinosaurs is smart enough to know not to bother with them unless and until they file for Bankrupcty. It literally is the only thing that can save them. Otherwise, they are going to be a cardiac patient waiting for a new heart that will never come.
Any CEO jobs at these three are suicide missions. You aren't running your company as much as you are dragging the UAW around with you until the place totally collapses under it's own obesity.
"Big Fat Eddy" might consider that his labor buddies are as much the partners in the failure of these companies as they are in any prior successes. So what is better? A wage like they get in TN, AL, SC or GA or the wage you currently on unemployment in Detroit? That really is the choice and anything else is just delaying the inevitable.
OH, and Toyota ARE better cars and Ed knows this. Toyota doesn't have to buy their radio systems from Delco or Philco and can use companies like Bose, Nakamichi or Polk. Toyota is locked into stupid contracts to buy exploding tires from Firestone or crappy brakes from Raybestos (that last one I'm just guessing at). And Toyotas have hirer resale values because they last longer and aren't being propped up by rental car purchases which have always allowed the Taurus and other P.O.S. cars from the Big 3.
As soon as I found car rental companies who would rent me an Infiniti I switched. I've rented Acuras, Buicks, Cadillacs, Chryslers and all kinds of other cars and there is no question that the Japanese designs are better drives. You just don't enjoy driving a Ford or Chevy like you do a Lexus, Acura, Infiniti or even a Saab. Very few of those domestic brands really compare well and in the luxury sedan category they just plain fail the test.
