Soros-Funded Group Admits Lying to Acquire Heartland Climate Documents
Head of the George Soros-funded Pacific Institute admitted to releasing documents from the Heartland Institute that he falsely obtained. The group’s sleazy attack was then promoted by liberal bloggers and quickly gained steam. The story was picked up by the New York Times, Politico and other media outlets.
Pacific Institute, the group that lied in order to obtain the documents, received $275,000 from Soros’s Open Society Foundations since 2006. This vicious attack by the left resulted in the release of information on the Heartland Institute’s fundraising strategy, budget, and plans to combat global warming alarmism.
Peter Gleick, president of the Soros-funded Pacific Institute, admitted to releasing the documents himself and offered his apologies. Gleick cited his frustration with the “ongoing efforts -- often anonymous, well-funded, and coordinated -- to attack climate science and scientists and prevent this debate, and by the lack of transparency of the organizations involved.” Ironic since his group is part of the liberal Soros-funded web which promotes climate alarmism and other liberal causes.
Heartland Institute’s president Joseph L. Bast said in a statement that "Gleick's crime was a serious one” and the documents he stole included personal information and put his staff in danger. Bast added that “a forged memo purporting to set out our strategies on global warming” has been cited by the media and damaged the group’s reputation.
The New York Times embraced the stolen documents after they were promoted by the liberal blogosphere. Politico reported that the left-leaning DeSmogBlog and Climate Progress were among the first sites to publish the materials on Feb. 14. They noted that Climate Progress is affiliated with the Center for American Progress (CAP), but did not point out that CAP received $7.3 million from Soros’s Open Society Foundations.

The Pacific Inst, and that 55-inch sea level rise, 88 yrs out
Submitted by Gary Hall on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 1:48pm.
The question is, "what else are they lying about, and what else have they been faking?"
The Pacific Institute and their prediction of a 55-inch sea level rise along the California coast line by the end of this century (88 yrs out) has been a predominate alarmist story here in CA for several years now. The Los Angles Times, for one, has repeatedly referenced - touted - this number, 55 inch sea level rise, in it's effort to promote any of their many agenda driven desires. Often I'll give the journalist (or the editorial board member) a jingle and remind them that it's completely nuts - not even the IPCC has so boldly gone that far out on a limb. And guess what? Often enough, their comeback, is that the 55 inch number, is a conservative one - "it could be worse than that, if we don't act now." We're talking about grown-ups here. Oh Lordy help me.
Here's the bible, from the Pacific Institute (my bold):
Impacts of Sea-Level Rise Threaten California Coast
New Report Assesses Risks to 480,000 People
Oakland, CA – March 11, 2009 – In an analysis prepared for three California state agencies, the Pacific Institute estimates that 480,000 people; a wide range of critical infrastructure, such as roads, hospitals, schools, and emergency facilities; vast areas of wetlands and other natural ecosystems; and nearly $100 billion in property along the California coast are at increased risk from flooding from a 1.4-meter sea-level rise – if no adaptation actions are taken. Commissioned by the Ocean Protection Council, the Public Interest Research Program of the California Energy Commission, and the California Department of Transportation, this comprehensive assessment of the impacts of sea-level rise puts California in the lead in trying to understand and adapt to the possible consequences of climate change.
Our dear Governor, Moonbeam, has been worrying about this a lot lately, as well. There are loud calls for investing literally $tens of billions in infrastructure improvements, including relocating sewer treatment plants, shutting down nuclear power plants, and of course - the urgent need to build the $100 billion+ bullet train from Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay area. Why? Because rapidly rising sea levels could wipe out CA Highway 1 - the Pacific Coast Highway. What a howler!
Personally, I've not been all that concerned about sea level rise here in CA, as I'm aware that NOAA actually keeps records. And, here's what's been going on in Los Angeles with sea level:
Mean Sea Level Trend - Los Angeles, California
Whoopee - just chugging along at a whopping 3 1/4 inch/100 yr clip. And, of course, there is no increase in the rate of rise.
