ABC and NBC Ignore Holder Hearings, CBS's Fast and Furious Coverage Slows to a Crawl

The news that the House Oversight Committee will vote next week on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, for refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents in the Fast and Furious investigation, was met with silence from the Big Three (ABC, NBC, CBS) network news shows. There was no mention of the Holder hearings on Monday’s evening news shows or Tuesday’s morning shows.

The blackout of the Holder hearings continues a stunning trend. Since December 2010, when the Fast and Furious scandal first broke, there have been zero stories about the gunwalking scandal on NBC Nightly News and Today show. On ABC there was only one brief aired on Good Morning America. Only CBS has truly covered the story, mainly due to the work of one reporter, Sharyl Attkisson. Since Attkisson broke the gunwalking story, there have been a total of 30 full stories and 1 brief aired on CBS’s Evening News and This Morning programs.

Curiously, Attkisson’s stories on the gunwalking scandal have screeched to a halt.

From February 4 through this morning’s news there has been only one report (An Erica Hill brief on the May 3 This Morning) on the Fast and Furious controversy. It’s not as if Attkisson stopped paying attention, as she authored a story for CBSNews.com on Tuesday, but oddly her reporting did not make the air on that night’s CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.

The following brief, aired on the May 3, 2012 CBS This Morning, represents the sum total of stories by the Big 3 on the Fast and Furious scandal in over a month:

ERICA HILL: There is new information this morning in the Fast and Furious gunwalking operation, first exposed last year by our own Sharyl Attkisson. Sources tell CBS News that today lawmakers will take the first formal step toward charging Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt of Congress. Republicans on the House Oversight Committee accused Holder of obstructing their investigation. In Fast and Furious, U.S. officials allowed thousands of guns to flow from the U.S. into Mexico. Two of those guns were later found at the scene where a U.S. border patrol agent was murdered.

Apparently 300+ dead Mexicans don't count

Submitted by dscott on Tue, 06/12/2012 - 2:40pm.

for news these days, but let's just forget their rotting corpses and bereaved families for the moment.

But let's not forget like Holder conveniently did, all covert programs must be vetted by the Attorney General of the US with a legal opinion outlining what is and isn't legal. So Mr. Holder, do you have Alzheimers and forgot you gave a legal opinion on Fast & Furious OR were you so incompetent as to give a wink and a nod to underlings?

Eric Holder's 'Fast and Furious' woe
http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/01/opinion/hayden-holder-fast-and-furious/ind...

Given that the liberal MSM won't cover the fact of 300+ murdered Mexicans from the guns supplied by Fast & Furious as it apparently isn't news worthy it doesn't surprise me that they won't even go after him for such lame lies before Congress. Eric Holder is incompetent and should be removed from office for his failure to follow established procedure in covert programs.

The Obama Public Relations

Submitted by John21 on Tue, 06/12/2012 - 2:43pm.

The Obama Public Relations Media are not going to show anything that impacts their client.

If you expect fair, honest or factual reporting of the days activities in the United States try one of the Canadian papers you can learn more about what is going on in America from there than from all the propaganda media here.
The propaganda media is in full CYA mode because they see that the American people are beginning to see through their smoke screen and see that this administration (that they are responsible for electing) is totally incompetent, totally unvetted and more than just a little corrupt. They see the supposed 4th estate with their hands out and receiving payment for their services and are not pleased. The talking heads are trying to figure out how to get the public back on their Kool-Aid before the election but they are terribly bright. Probably because the are still trying to figure out why their rating are dropping (do the serfs not like them anymore)

I have to say

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Tue, 06/12/2012 - 3:30pm.

I am so incredibly pissed about this whole issue. I can't think of another "scandal" in US history to compare with it. This administration knowingly and deliberately allowed, even forced, US guns to be fed to the Mexican drug cartels, with absolutely no doubt that they would cause death and destruction, for the sole purpose of advancing their anti-gun agenda. They have castigated and harrassed whistleblowers to this debacle, violating federal law. They have hidden and/or promoted the leaders of F&F. They (the DoJ) have told subordinates not to answer questions. They have DIRECTLY caused the deaths of AT LEAST hundreds (maybe thousands) of Mexican citizens and law enforcement officers. And they have DIRECTLY caused the death of one US federal agent, possibly more than one.

Some people compare F&F to Watergate. But Watergate didn't kill people, and when you think about it, wasn't really that big of a deal. F&F most certainly is. And that arrogant little pr*ck Calderone is going along with it because he has publicly and repeatedly announced his anti-gun philosophy. What Head of State would or could EVER condone a neighboring country intentionally arming criminals in their country, thus causing the deaths of their citizens and law enforcement officers, and undermining their government, with anything but outrage?

Tell me what would happen if we caught Mexico feeding assault weapons (real ones, not what the anti's define them as) to LA, Detroit, and/or Chicago gangs? What if those weapons were directly linked to the murders of hundreds of US citizens, local and federal law enforcement officers, and the total breakdown of law and order in those cities? I think maybe Mexico would shortly be classified as our 51st state, right after we took down their government and sent our troops in.

There is no excuse for the lack of media coverage nor the failure to swiftly bring the perpetrators of this "operation" to justice. Intentionally causing death and destruction solely to advance a political philosophy belongs in Nazi Germany or Communist Russia, NOT in the USA.

Other scandals?

How about o'bama suing Florida for removing illegal voters from the rolls? I can't believe a US President would openly advocate the dilution of my vote just so illegal aliens' "rights" aren't violated.

That's a whole other discussion Thisn

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 9:31am.

The dems aren't even trying to cover what they're doing with the voting issues. We've know for years that they practice voter fraud pretty regularly. Anf it's no secret that they would LOVE illegals to be permitted to vote, as there's little doubt who they would vote for. Some dems have even pushed for felons to be allowed to vote, even those still incarcerated. They know who their base is, which is why they're in a panic about all the voter and immigration laws emerging around the country and the purge here in Florida. If only legitimate votes would count, we'd see how fringe the dem party is really becoming.

Bottom line, voter fraud hasn't caused hundreds of deaths and a blatant attempt to eliminate a Constitutional right like F&F has.

Don't blame Attkisson

Submitted by jadams9845 on Tue, 06/12/2012 - 8:52pm.

Don't blame Attkisson for the lack of reporting on fast & furios, she has done an outstanding job in reporting this story. Blame her boss, Les "CBS is not partisan" Moonves. ABC will start reporting it in a couple of weeks and NBC won't report it until Holder's already resigned.
