Desperate Matthews Urges Viewers: Call Congress and Tell Them to Ignore Tea Party's 'Stay-At-Home' Bloggers

By Geoffrey Dickens | July 14, 2011 | 18:34

A desperate sounding Chris Matthews, on Thursday's Hardball, began his show by handing out the direct line to Congress as he urged his viewers to stand up against the "Tea Party members" and their "stay-at-home blogging cheerleaders."

Matthews warned his audience that these "blogging cheerleaders" and their GOP Representatives were all too willing to "embrace" economic "calamity" to show how "dedicated they were to not raising the debt ceiling."

(video after the jump)

In his "Let Me Start" segment Matthews framed the debt ceiling debate as a "civil war" and called it "an historic test of who will take the wheel, who will drive the car?" The MSNBCer then depicted fiscal conservatives as children as he pondered: "Will it be the grown-ups in the front seat or the kids crying and complaining and threatening in the back seat? On one side are those kids in the back seat, Tea Party members of Congress and their stay-at-home blogging cheerleaders who either don't understand or don't care about the consequences of default."

The following is the full Matthews open to the July 14 edition of Hardball:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Country on the brink. Let's play Hardball! Good evening I'm Chris Matthews, up in New York. Let me start tonight with the civil war going on in Washington today. It's not North versus South or even Right versus Left. It's an historic test of who will take the wheel, who will drive the car? Will it be the grown-ups in the front seat or the kids crying and complaining and threatening in the back seat? On one side are those kids in the back seat, Tea Party members of Congress and their stay-at-home blogging cheerleaders who either don't understand or don't care about the consequences of default - of the U.S. not meeting its obligations, of us looking like a joke. They're willing to risk calamity, even embrace it, just to show how dedicated they are to not raising the debt ceiling. On the other side are Democrats and some Republicans who understand this is not a game. That there's no fail-safe position after default.

So who's gonna win? Will it be the men and women who worry about the country? Or those who fear most of all, not of failure of their country to meet its bills but how scary it might be to go to the next Tea Party meeting when the town misfit stands up and says, "You have betrayed us. You have voted to raise the debt ceiling." That's what it's about. That's what this civil war is all about and the question before the country is whether we're gonna keep our economic soundness. If we want our treasury notes to turn out to be, on the other hand, junk bonds. Do we want the land of the free to be the land of the deadbeat. If not, try something right now. Call your congressman or woman and say you don't want this crisis to go where it's headed right now. The number, by the way, I'll give you a minute to think about this, you want to write this down. The number of Congress, and this is for any member of Congress or Senate, you can go through this phone number and ask for them. And they may even help you find out who your congressman is, if you don't know. 202-225-3121. Again, 202-225-3121. If you forget that, it's in the phone book or in 411.

I'm not desperate because MSNBC's ratings are so horrible I'm not all that concerned. But I'm putting out a call for anyone who watches MSNBC even a little bit to turn it off forever. Do what I did - I got rid of all my cable. Problem solved!

Clearly the 'Sort-of-God'

Submitted by Slyrr on Thu, 07/14/2011 - 6:45pm.

Clearly the 'Sort-of-God' man-child Obama has sent out his decree from Mt. Olympus, and Chris 'Thrills Up My Pants' Matthews has bowed down and tongued his master's toes.

Again, Matthews declared to the world that 'his job' is to make Obama look good (i.e., do his bidding). Matthews would lie, cheat, steal, do any disgusting thing to protect Obama, the man who signs his paychecks (after stealing the money from OUR paychecks).

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

I just found out that you can not e-mail Cantor unless you live in his district. This really pisses me off. We pay their salaries and the salaries of their staff. Why do I need to live in his district? He works for me.

Don't worry about MSNBC. They don't have enough viewer to jam the switchboards at the Capitol.

And, Chrissy?  The town misfit?  Would that be you, Madcow, O'Donnell or Bashir?

I remember when Rush gave out the number of the Capital Switchboard as an example of what would really happen if he did it regularly. The Switchboard was shut down because of the volume of calls. Did Chris even have enough people calling to make them put on extra people. I doubt it.

If you DO NOT KNOW WHO YOUR CONGRESSMAN IS, YOU SHOULD NOT BE VOTING!!! And YOU PROBABLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ANYWAY!!!!

Uneducated voters that get their info from this BALLOONHEAD and his gaseous network! All they know about a ballot is how to find the "D" and make the mark next to it!

It's in the phone book? PHONE BOOK???? 411? What demographic uses a phone book? Who calls 411? Only the elderly die-hard democrats that drool with Chrissy while watching that "sideshow" called a news program.

In the 2000 Presidential election, it was lucky for Bush

Submitted by virginia republican on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 9:42am.

that the typical Democratic voter is semi-literate at best. The voters the party operatives dragged to the polls were instructed to make sure to vote on every page. They dutifully did and, because the Presidential ballot ran more than one page and they marked off more than one Presidential candidate, their ballots were thrown out. If it weren't for that (which took place in Jacksonville) the thousands of votes would have given the state and the nationwide election to Gore. Of course, the Dems screwed many absentee military (likely Bush) voters out of their votes because of the made-up postmark issue. So maybe it's a wash.

Hey, Crissy, you remember

Submitted by dscott on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 1:25am.

Hey, Crissy, you remember those Chinese who you liberals adore so much? Well this is what they think:

Chinese credit rating agency has indicated in August it will cut it’s rating of US bonds.

Dagong is likely to downgrade US rating

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2011-07/13/content_12889286.htm

BEIJING – The US’ sovereign credit rating is likely to be downgraded regardless of whether the US Congress reaches an agreement on raising its statutory debt limit, Chinese rating agency, Dagong Global Rating Co Ltd, said on Monday.
“If the debt limit is raised and the public debt continues to grow, it will further damage the US’ debt-paying ability, which is a key factor in Dagong’s evaluation, and we will consider lowering its ratings accordingly,” said Guan Jianzhong, chairman and CEO of Dagong.

“If the raised limit fails to pass and the US faces default, the rating will be immediately and substantially downgraded,” he said.

According to Guan, the downgrading is really just “a matter of time and extent”...

...The fundamental problem is that the US' ability to generate wealth is far from compensating its increasing debt, and "paying debts by borrowing more is not a solution," he said...."

In other words Crissy, the Chinese agree with the Tea Party and GOP, either get our house in order by cutting Obama's massive spending increase since he took office OR ELSE! How is it that we have to get sage advice from Communists????

BTW - The Chinese have been handed the ability by Obama and his flunkies to destroy this country without pushing the nuclear button or firing one bullet. All they have to do is panic sell all their bonds in the open market forcing the Fed to buy them. That's called Instantaneous Devaluation of the Dollar. Barack Obama is undoubtabley thee most incompetent POTUS in the history of the Republic. It is difficult to believe ANYONE COULD BE THIS STUPID but here we are. How's that hope and change working for you all? Next time moderates and independents, you'll think twice about electing someone with zero executive experience, zero accomplishments and spouts platitudes. You want to vote in a popularity contest, then turn in your voter registration card and go back to high school to vote for prom king and queen.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

And the R's are the children???

Matthews is just terrified the norm will change and the progressive dream will *finally* die. Chin up dude - with all the indoctrinated people/kids, it will take awhile to purge them all!!!

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

MATTHEWS: "That's what this civil war is all about . . . "

So, in his call for citizens to listen to grown-ups, Matthews defines the political discourse as a civil war.

This from the clown who claims that conservatives and particularly Tea Partiers exaggerate merely to scare people.

Unfortunately, Matthews is probably to old to grow up himself.
