MSNBCer Compares Chris Christie to Tony Soprano

By Geoffrey Dickens | June 17, 2011 | 17:31

Geoffrey Dickens's picture

Tamron Hall was so taken aback by Chris Christie's "none of your business" response to a voter's question about why he puts his kids in private school that she blurted the New Jersey Republican Governor reminded her of HBO's fictionalized mobster Tony Soprano. Right after playing a brief clip of Christie's "gruff" answer to the voter, Hall stooped to take a stereotypical cheap shot at New Jersey and its governor as she exclaimed: "I thought that was Tony Soprano!"

(video after the jump)

The following excerpt was aired on the June 17 edition of MSNBC's News Nation with Tamron Hall:

TAMRON HALL: New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie is raising eyebrows once again today, this time it is for his gruff response to a woman who asked a question on last night's edition of PBS program "Christie On The Line." Take a look at what happened.

(Begin clip)

GAIL: You don't send your children to public schools, you send them to private schools so I was wondering why you think it's fair to be cutting school funding to public schools?

CHRIS CHRISTIE: What's her name?

STEVE ADUBATO: What's her name, guys? Real quick, as the governor is talking. What is it? Gail. Talk to Gail.

CHRISTIE: Hey Gail, you know what? First off, it's none of your business. I don't ask you where you send your kids to school, don't bother me about where I send mine.

(End clip)

HALL: Joining me now, nationally syndicated talk show host Michael Smerconish, who is an MSNBC contributor. I thought that was Tony Soprano! I mean listen, I love New Jersey but that was like a caricature, some might say – heck, I'm saying it – of, of like "none of your business." And this is the second time he's done it. He was asked about, whether he believed in evolution or creationism and he responded, "It's none of your business."

HBO ridiculously and calously

Submitted by jdhawk on Fri, 06/17/2011 - 6:28pm.

HBO ridiculously and calously portrayed Soprano as a man trying to raise a family like any other, just that instead of selling insurance or working at the Ford factory, he thieved, murdered, blackmailed, and extorted for a living.

Governor Christie is a real family man with the job of attempting to turn back decades of socialist rule in New Jersey. By all accounts he is succesful. If he were a dimocrat, he would be showered with praise. Instead, his every effort is met with scorn.

PMSNBC is disgusting. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I am from NJ and I am sick of the people in this state

Submitted by djwolf12 on Fri, 06/17/2011 - 7:39pm.

who complain about so-called hyperbolic, extreme vitriolic statements then say something stupid like this. Lets face it, public unions are killing this country. Perfect example: I have a friend that is a teacher here in NJ. She is pissed off at Christie because of what he HAS TO DO in order to make our budget. She is whining that she may have to move to another state of get a new profession. I told her that she should be thankful she makes 45K a year and only has to work 9 months and get the summers off. I have to work my ass off for 12 months every year, 50-55 hrs every week just to make 47K. Naturally, she now hates my guts because she has been brainwashed to believe everything unions tell her. Unions, for the most part, are not engaged in social and economic reality.

I loved hearing Christie's response.  Wanna bet the woman who asked him the question was some union plant or some teacher who was attempting to slam him on public education?

Anyways, I would have LOVED it even more if Christie would have pointed out that NJ and DC rank tops in spending per student, yet there is less and less and less bang for the buck.  NJ and DC are perfect examples of why pouring yet more and more and more and  more money into public education does NOT equal smarter, better equipped, more thoroughly educated students.

Don't get me started

Cool Arrow, this is why I am getting SO DAMN SICK of the school districts and school teachers and so on in this state whining about the budget cuts to education.  All I know is that when I suck at work, if I were to go up and demand a pay raise for me NOT to suck, I would be fired instantaneously.  Yet this is what we all put up with teachers all the time.

Recently there was an ad campaign, I'm sure you saw it, with a bunch of famous people whining that Texas was 44th in the country in money spent per student.  That NJ and DC top the table and churn out functional illiterates was of course left unsaid.  I saw two of the ads; had I seen one more of them, my TV would have wound up in the Gulf of Mexico.

Maybe we should cut education funding further.  It might force school districts to spend money wisely.  You know, like the rest of us are...

Parents are part of the problem

Submitted by Radical1979 on Fri, 06/17/2011 - 11:08pm.

Let's start holding parents responsible for some of this crap too. I used to get notes that Sally didn't do homework because she had soccer practice and then a game. We also have junior high girls wearing bracelets that say "I (heart shape) boobies" and the parents suing for their right to do so.

Teachers where I live are ALWAYS in grad school, because for every degree they earn, they get more money. How about for every student that can pass a state exam, you get paid! Those degrees often do little in educating the kids.

It's just too easy to look upon school as a Constitutional Right which the government administers.

Too easy to buy into the "Feels good, do it" approach to marriage and the dissolution thereof, including the child abandonment our government promotes.

I don't have the answers, but it's obvious children who grow up in an unchanging two-parent family have an advantage the Liberals would give their right kidneys to disprove.

Absolutely.  As critical as I am of teachers, there are waaaaaaaay too many parents who have boundless faith in teachers, and proceed to treat school as a day care center for kids all the way up until they are age 18.  At which point the kids go to a remedial learning center called "college".

If they got left back twice, they got their asses kicked by the parents. Now, they are all drugged up, walking around like zombies and get promoted to the next grade because the grading system has ben manipulated by Liberals to make sure "everyone gets fair treatment". Why don't the JounOList media ask some questions about Obama's school records which we have never seen?
