Prejean Slams Olbermann, Calls Out Liberal Media Double Standards on Today

Invited on Tuesday's Today show to promote her new book, Carrie Prejean defended the latest scrutiny surrounding her as the latest example of "liberal bias in the media," of "conservative women" being attacked. When confronted by Today co-anchor Meredith Vieira about her assertion she's been "Palinized," Prejean threw back "Do you think Sarah Palin has been attacked," to which Vieira dodged the liberal bias charge simply stating: "I think Sarah Palin has certainly been criticized, absolutely, by a lot people, as have many politicians." Prejean then slammed Vieira's NBC colleague Keith Olbermann:

CARRIE PREJEAN: And there is a double standard out there. There is an extreme double standard that conservative women are under attack for whatever it is. I mean if Sean Hannity went out there and said some of the things that Keith Olbermann has said about me, you know, if he said anything about Sonia Sotomayor or Michelle Obama, he would be off the air. Why is there this double standard? And that's the reason why I wrote this book. [audio available here]

MEREDITH VIEIRA: This book, it obviously doesn't take on the sex scandal, but it, it does take on what happened to you in the pageant. Why did you feel the need to write it? What hadn't you said that you needed to say?
CARRIE PREJEAN: Well, I think it's important for people to understand, I that think Americans heard only bits and pieces of, of what really happened. And I think that there is a liberal bias in the media, and it's unfortunate that, you know, conservative women are attacked. They are attacked for their beliefs, you know? And it's, it's unacceptable and it shouldn't happen. And so many Americans are frustrated. So many Americans believe that their beliefs, you know, are under attack and they should be silent, and free speech doesn't exist. Since when does free speech not exist? Since when is someone able to go on national TV and call someone the most awful names you could ever call a woman and get away with it?
VIEIRA: And you have been called absolutely terrible names, but there are people who say they want to call you on the carpet when they feel you're being a hypocrite. In the book you write "Our bodies are temples of the lord. We should earn respect and admiration for our hearts, not for showing skin to look sexy." So now people are seeing this tape, whatever you want to call it-
PREJEAN: Right, absolutely. Absolutely.
VIEIRA: -and they're saying, "Well she's a hypocrite-
PREJEAN: Yeah, well I model.
VIEIRA: -she writes a book that says one thing."
PREJEAN: I'm a model. I was in a beauty pageant. I mean if people want to call me hypocrite, then that, you know that's their, that's their prerogative. But, you know what? I've learned from my mistakes. No one's perfect. You're not perfect. I'm not perfect. No one's perfect. Everybody makes mistakes and I think it's all about, you know, taking responsibility for their mistakes. And it just so happens that, you know, seven months, it's been seven months since I gave that answer and they have done nothing but attack me and try and silence me and keep me from spreading that message that free speech still exists, and that's the reason why I wrote this book.
VIEIRA: You, you say in the book you've been "Palinized," referencing Sarah Palin. What do you mean by that? "I've been Palinized."
PREJEAN: You know of the attacks Sarah Palin's been under, don't you?
VIEIRA: But do you think if you're a conservative woman that-
PREJEAN: Do you think Sarah Palin has been attacked?
VIEIRA: I think Sarah Palin has certainly been criticized, absolutely, by a lot people, as have many politicians.
PREJEAN: Right, right. And there is a double standard out there. There is an extreme double standard that conservative women are under attack for whatever it is. I mean if Sean Hannity went out there and said some of the things that Keith Olbermann has said about me, you know, if he said anything about Sonia Sotomayor or Michelle Obama, he would be off the air. Why is there this double standard? And that's the reason why I wrote this book.

The relevant formulation was looks, class, and brains. A liberal/leftist can have the first, a smaller number may have class, but by definition none have brains if they adhere to a failed ideology despite all of the evidence. Prejean conducted herself as a bright young lady should. Vieira was rude. I still scratch my head why any Conservative would care to even go on any show of the alphabet networks. But, they have to sell books and reach a larger audience. Miss Prejean is a damn sight more professional then I could ever be in the presence of these knuckleheads. I'd come away from there and there would be some hurt feelings left behind. I don't think I'd get invited back again. So good for her, I'll be sure to buy her book.

regardless of the doublestandard and the attacks by a group of people who have little room calling anyone else out, this is definitely beyond Christian behavior.

The only question I would ask is: When did all this occur? before or after she became a Christian?

If it was after, then there's no way I can stand by this.

If it was before, then you'd have to crucify me and every other Christian on the planet. Cuz we all lived in sin before we repented and turned to God. Heck, there's been things I've done AFTER I came to God that weren't very godly either, but the thing about Christianity is that our walk with God is progressive. God is not there to beatus into a pulp for failing. He uses our failures for His glory.

If we make mistakes, we have an advocate in Jesus Christ to forgive us our sins if we repent and turn from sin (that's the key).

The problem with things like this ordeal with Prejean of course is that it totally wrecks her witness.

I agree with her defending marriage and defending herself from some really sickning attacks from some of the most reprobate people in our country - who should be the last one calling her a hypocrite...

BUT as a Christian, she should know better. Flaunting herself is not Christ-like in the least.

But she never thought he would have kept it and when she was famous he would sell it! Still, what she did was simply a personal act done in her own bedroom. 2) Get a better spokesperson. Are you trying to imply that Christians should dump anyone who has committed a sin and then beat them black and blue verbally? Go and read what Jesus said to the adultress who was going to be stoned to death. Christians are about forgiveness and mercy, especially for fellow Christians who own up to their wrongs and repent of them.

3) The goal is not to have perfect spokesmodels. The goal is to love and support the imperfect ones that we have.

4) Why is her sin any worse than yours or mine? It isn't. God doesn't teach that some sins are worse than others -- all sin is equally wrong.

5) Sorry, salvation doesn't mean that you lose the ability to sin. It means that sin's power over you is broken. You'll fall back down again but now you have the power to get up.

She made some mistakes (we all do), regreted them (not all of us do this), and probably asked for forgiveness (we all should), then restoration can begin.

To me, is is obvious that the manner in which reporters address the first two will and should be far different from how they treat the third. The first two hold redoubtable positions. the thrid makes a living hawking her good looks and cheapening notions of beauty and sexuality. Go to liberal-mindset-saturated countries like the UK -- (well, again, there's a reason we fled them :p) -- and the class warfare and snobbery still exists today, big-time.

Liberals here, who are taking their cues from Europe and not from what this country was founded on, are being just as elitist and desirous of classes, but they cloak themselves with all the b.s. of being compassionate and giving.

I've been getting the "dumb blonde" thing all of my life. My mummy taught me to use it to my advantage when I was about four years old....hang our head out of the car window and look cute and wave....people let you cut in front of them, even in bad traffic jams.

And then, of course, they "missunderstimate" you....a real advantage.

Life is sweet for a blonde. Truly. Particularly when we have friends like you who toss that ball up there for us to hit out of the park. :)

I hope he fails, too.
