It's hard to imagine two Chris Matthews Show panelists publicly admitting that the President was smarter than them, during the George W. Bush administration, but that's precisely what happened during this weekend's episode when host Chris Matthews asked Newsweek's Howard Fineman that very question. When a frustrated Matthews worried that Barack Obama wasn't being more aggressive in pushing health care reform, Fineman calmed Matthews down by assuring him that "one of his great qualities...is patience" which prompted Matthews to ponder: "Howard is he smarter than us?" to which Fineman affirmed: "Of course he is! Much smarter!" [audio available here]
The following exchange occurred during the November 1 edition of The Chris Matthews Show:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: He's hung back at a point that's almost driven us crazy. He has let Harry Reid carry the ball.
HOWARD FINEMAN, NEWSWEEK: Well Chris one of the things-
MATTHEWS: Is that smart?
FINEMAN: I think it may turn out to be. I've been like you, all over cable TV, saying, "How come he isn't out there pounding away at this? He ought to do it like Ronald Reagan and have four points and pound!"
MATTHEWS: Right. Right.
FINEMAN: That's not Barack Obama.
MATTHEWS: I know.
FINEMAN: He is, one of his great qualities, whether you like him or not, is patience. And he's playing a very patient game here.
MATTHEWS: Howard is he smarter, Howard is he smarter than us?
FINEMAN: Of course he is! Much smarter!

November 2, 2009 - 11:08 ET by danybhoyOf course Fineman & Matthews think Obama is smarter then "US". It might have something to do with Fineman & Matthews are followers, not leaders. Obama is just part of a "ruling class" that combined has hundreds of millions of dollars worth of "elite" university education, Ivy League schools, Georgetown, Oxford, MIT, whatever. The cream of the crop. But do most of these people have any real practical experience in the world everyone lives in? Nope, none at all. They are mostly lawyers & professors, so they are almost useless to the nation as a whole.
As for Matthews & Fineman, their days are numbered. The time is drawing near when those who are bankrolling their employment will demand a return on their investment. They are nonfactors, & most people know it. Hell, I think they know it too, their numbers tell the story.

November 2, 2009 - 10:53 ET by iveseenitallObama is a dull, indecisive puppet of the left. The reason he is taking so long to send troops to war is that he truly does not want to send the troops. He is a pampered Affirmative Action child, idoctrinated by those who despise America. He has sat in classrooms, churches, and in countless private meetings to learn his hate well. Anti-capitalist just begins to describe how much he despises the American way of life--- one which he sees as the result of the greed of the white man. We 've met his type before--- slick talking used car salesmen who are about as deep as a puddle. "Smart"? ,I don't know, more like "shrewd" -- certainly narcissistic with no reason to be. Then again , he got elected for but one overriding reason, his race. In fact, just as with his winning a Nobel Peace Prize, all the accolades he gets, including the "smart" label, are based on nothing substantial.

Wow! If we only knew Obama's IQ score!
November 2, 2009 - 12:10 ET by Mike BrattonChris and Howie, I have no doubt that Barry is smarter than the two of you--put together. Even though we have no idea what Obama's IQ is, because that's a state secret on a par with his Columbia thesis. However, I will give in to a rare moment of hubris and state categorically that none of those three are as IQ-blessed as I am.
When you're running a personality cult, as Barry is, it's not a wise move to disclose that the Lightworker's IQ is middle-of-the-road. So, boys, you might want to lay off the genuflecting at your idol's feet. They're made of clay.

Not saying much...
November 2, 2009 - 12:24 ET by retroconTo reiterate so many comments here:
I have a ribeye roast, wrapped in cheesecloth, aging in the bottom drawer of my refrigerator. Within it, some chemical enzymes are acting on the beef to change it's composition. The enzymes are not living organisms. The enzymes are still smarter than Matthews and Fineman.
On the other hand, there are some bacteria that have formed around the outside of the beef. The bacteria are living things. They are not necessary to the dry-aging process, just unfortunate byproducts living off of the good beef and leaving poisonous excretions in its' place. Since they spoil the meat on which they live, they, and the spoiled meat, must be removed and discarded. This bacteria has a higher IQ than BHO. And they both have similar effects on their surroundings.

The racism of indefensible adulation
November 2, 2009 - 12:37 ET by CO2MakerChris the Wide Mouth Frog and Howard "He's So Fine"-man exhibited what I've seen in many other conversations by many other many others committing adulation with O'Bama in public: offering such over-exaggerated compliments, often unsolicited or un-triggered, that it cannot be anything but praise-for-his-race's sake.
All the heavy breathing, from Keith "I can see my pole number's rising from my bathtub" Olbermann to Ed "Pillow-talking to the pooch" Schultz to Rachel Madcow, comes across as more than using the ladies' tee, as more than moving the goal posts, as more than a Chris Dodd-style friendly loan. It consists almost exclusively of guilt-edged, specifically white-guilt edged, plaudits, encomiums, paeans, and shout-outs.
Criticism of O'Bama is denounced as wrong, because it is presumptively racist. Thus the converse is true. Adulation of O'Bama is often unfounded, and thus is racist, too. But it's a new, proactive, constructive, compassionate, post-racial racism.

November 2, 2009 - 12:38 ET by TomoramaIs this that "liberal nuance" that we heard about so much in 2004 with Jawwwwwn Kerry?
Can't make a decision, can't stick to an ideal and can't give a straight anwere BECAUSE, they are so much smarter than the rest of us.
Bush was no genius, but he looked at a given situation WITH needed input and MADE a decision, good or bad of the results with the Monday morning quarterbacking involved, he at least made a decision DAMNED the polling or DAMNED the party, he made mistakes, but he showed some nuts to NOT VOTE PRESENT like this PUSSY of a president (no cap deserved).
