In an intro dripping with sarcasm, Chris Matthews, on Thursday's "Hardball," opened his show by declaring Rush Limbaugh's "racially inflammatory words," have "knocked him out as a potential NFL owner." Matthews went on to mock the radio talk show host as the "master of righteous indignation," and rhymed "that it takes large forces indeed, to bring down so grand a man as he."
The following is Matthews' complete introduction to the August 15 edition of "Hardball":
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Blocking the Rush. Let's play "Hardball!" Good evening I'm Chris Matthews in Washington. Leading off tonight, sacked. Rush Limbaugh, a man who traffics in words has learned the important lesson - words count. Rush's words, his racially insensitive and inflammatory words, have knocked him out as a potential NFL owner. The master of righteous indignation blames many for his failure, including the President of the United States and the Democratic Party, implying that it takes large forces indeed, to bring down so grand a man as he.

Now, to the matter at hand...Rush is being blackballed because he is Rush Limbaugh, not because he is perceived, wrongfully, as being a racist. Rush's conservatism is the true issue here, and he is being targeted and trashed because of it. This is just the latest club that his enemies have found to bludgeon him with. Rush is not a racist. I have been listening to and watching him for 20 odd years, and if Rush were a racist, I would have stopped at the first sign of anything like that from him.
Rush has mentioned taking legal action against all those in the media who have repeated the fallacious racist statements attributed to him, and I hope he does...He has a case. There is clearly malicious intent here, though it is notoriously difficult to prove in court...That said, Rush should still pursue legal action just the same. Enough is enough.

Limbaugh is a racist, appealing to racists, prairiesky
October 15, 2009 - 21:23 ET by 007memoLimbaugh is a racist, appealing to racists, prairiesky. He constantly throws red meat to his racist listeners. After 20 years of listening to Rush, you mustn't be very perceptive if you've never noticed that.
Here are some examples:
“Look, let me put it to you this way: The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
“this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call 'em gangs. You have the Laker Gang, you have the Heat Gang, you have a Timberwolf Gang…”
"In Obama's America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering, 'Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on" “We need segregated buses. … This is Obama’s America.”
“President Obama is black. And I think he’s got a chip on his shoulder.”
Democrats are interested in Darfur to secure black “voting bloc.”
“Minorities never do anything for which they have to apologize.”
Obama’s nomination for president “goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy.”
Obama is a “halfrican-American.”
“I want to know. I look at Iowa, I look at Illinois---I want to see the murders. I want to see the looting. I want to see all the stuff that happened in New Orleans. I see devastation in Iowa and Illinois that dwarfs what happened in New Orleans. I see people working together.”
“I hope he fails,” “We are being told that we have to hope Obama succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black because this was the first black President.”
"Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race," Limbaugh wrote in an email. "OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with."
The racist Limbaugh pretending Sonia Satomayor is a racist: “you need to tell her I have not retracted my charge that she's a racist and a bigot.”
“anti-American Afrocentric black liberation theologists with ACORN, and Barack Obama is smack dab in the middle of it, they have been training young black kids to hate, hate, hate this country, and they trained their parents before that to hate, hate, hate this country. It was a movement.”
And the McNabb comments.
And that magic negro song he incessantly played. But the LA Times said it first so it's okay I guess.

October 17, 2009 - 17:41 ET by UnsaneNo, proud, It's about Rush the racist. Rush is a racist. You are actually going to have to PROVE these statements. So far I see a total failure on your part to do so. So much for your being so much smarter than the rest of humanity that so fills you with hate and contempt that is once again dripping from your posts.
Your word here is not the Holy Writ.
He espouses Republicanism but that doesn't translate to conservatism. I really am totally confused by this sentence. Unless of course you are one of the many Statists/Socialists who are supposed to be so much more brillaint than the rest of us here at NB, yet cannot distinguish a party from a philosophy. But that's okay, I guess. Considering you have no clue what a "right" is and cannot differentiate between a unitary and federal system of government, I shouldn't be surprised.
He sure is getting rich spewing exactly what his dittoheads want to hear though. It's the exact reverse, my dear tool of Leftist ideology, my little Statist/Socialist drone, who keeps accusing Rightists of being "sheep" yet cannot come up with one original argument outside of Statist/Socialist talking points yet. As far as I can tell his ideology is his own wealth and power and self-aggrandizement. And the fact he has has any wealth at all REALLY PISSES YOU OFF, doesn't it? Statist/Socialists like you are just ENRAGED that ANYONE DARES make a single dime. I don't begrudge any man his cash. I leave that to people like you who cannot live without being overwhelmingly, extremely ANGRY 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
All I said was that Rush is a racist. Because you say this without any backing whatsoever. In fact, I can already tell you have never listened to his show a single time; you do not know what his show is about. You only make assumptions off of what your Statist/Socialist programmers tell you to think about it. if you had any intellectual honesty at all you'd listen to his show and come up with yout own conclusions. And you of course have no clue about how you are validating and reaffirming of Statism/Socialism as you espouse it. But it is very simple: you have no intellectual backing for them, just lots and lots of extreme anger, rhetoric, condescension, and elitist snobbery (all of which is quite unjustified). That does not sell your cause very well.
Besides, if Rush is this evil racist as you so repeatedly assure us he is, please explain James Golden.

Yeah, I can take particular attention to 1964, but what's your point? Even those racists George Wallace, Lester Maddox et als remained Dems long after that. But they were not embraced by the Democratic Party, they were marginalized as racists.
Conversely, the Republican Party embraces their southern racist constituents. When was the last time a Democrat had a "macaca" moment?
From 1972 on, the south went for the Republican candidate every time except for Carter. But Carter's was an anomaly cause despite that he was a Democrat, after that Nixon disgrace, even Ted Kennedy could have won the south.
The fact remains that the racist south left the national Democratic Party over the Civil Rights Act, and they're sticking with the Republican Party.

The last link is to a NY Times report that does not debunk the Republican Southern Strategy, but it's rather an analysis by two academics that faults the universal acceptance of the truth to it.

Many of the Limbaugh apologists here refuse to call out Limbaugh for his racist rants because he so closely echoes there own racist opinions. That would be an uncomfortable admission for some, but not all here.
Others accept the racist rants because it reinforces their irrational hatred for libruls - so Limbaugh can't be too wrong now can he?
Racism is only part of it. The far right demonizes Obama and libruls and turns them into cartoon characters, dehumanizing them along the way ("Barack the magic negro", the Muslim terrorist, illegal alien, socialist, fascist, communist, grandma killer). That dehumanization allows the pure hatred to flow so much more easily.
And the rubes just eat that crap up, and Rush laughs all the way to the bank. Do you really believe he actually believes what he says? LOL! He's not that stupid.
Your use of the race baiting term is the corrupted one recently advanced by the right wing, that corruption that semingly permits you to preposterously call me a racist. Do you recognize irony, general?
"Question: Why do liberals insist on making life more difficult for minorities by excusing them? " Yeehaw! Good question, but that debate I wouldn't charge to a charlatan racist like Rush Limbaugh.
You think I'm going to defend apologist liberals? Those who obsolve minorities for personal responsibility? No chance.
"Even the other misguided racebaiters in the media have come to their senses" You mean they've concluded that Rush really isn't a racist? Yeah right.

Do me a favor and link to where you responded and posted the racist remarks by Rush, in your opinion. Sorry, been on and off here and will take me forever to dig it up. If you can, I will certainly challenge you on each one. Thanks.

Below is the Link, you've been there already apparently so you must have your response ready to go. I will forewarn you, I've said it before on this page and I'll say it again:

Here's the issue with folks
October 17, 2009 - 17:36 ET by FeynmanFanHere's the issue with folks like 007. nwahs and the other folks who make these kinds of comments. They are looking at the world through their own prism and interpreting what they see according to their own beliefs. They then present their opinions as though they are facts and demand that other people refute what they believe.
It's a pointless exercise because no one can come up with an answer that's acceptable to them unless it's agreement. They see things differently than most of the people on NB and nothing is going to change that. They will interpret every piece of information as they see fit to support their opinions and demand to know why it's not that way.
Attempting to change their minds is a fool's chore. Nothing will ever convince them to think differently, in spite of their call for "facts" that will prove them wrong.
Their points of view are antithetical to the majority of opinions on NB and nothing that anyone can say is going to change that. It's a waste of time to deal with them because neither you nor they are going to learn anything from a dialogue except that their opinions are what they are.
It's a mistake to accept what they say as fact, although it's presented that way and they want to believe that it's factual. The only reasonable reponse (and the response that will preserve one's sanity) is to thank them for sharing their opinion and pay no further attention to them.
"Reason and persuasion are the only practical instruments against error. To make way for these, free inquiry must be indulged" - Thomas Jefferson
Excellent points, fennyman
October 18, 2009 - 02:23 ET by 007memoExcellent points, fennyman.
Except for, and my taking exception doesn't diminish the wisdom you've displayed, the "fact" that what you accuse me of is exactly what I would accuse you and yours of; looking at clear facts "through their own prism and interpreting what they see according to their own beliefs."
A breakthrough is possible here, fennyman.
Hmmm, where to begin.
I'm accused of calling people names and insulting them, by people who call me names and insult me.
I ask for facts to support claims and mostly I'm referred to wing nutty opinion websites as corroboration of those "facts". But somehow my facts aren't legitimate?
No one addressed even one of the many allegedly racist comments by Limbaugh. Except for a couple proclaiming that what Limbaugh says is true, which somehow is supposed to validate that what Limbaugh said wasn't racist, the remainder posted irrelevent tangents.
Those tangential subjects included racist or anti-Semitic remarks by Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson and the even more irrelevent, Margaret Sanger. As if libruls' racist remarks would excuse Limbaugh's racist remarks. They also bizarrely assumed that I wouldn't take a librul to task for their racist remarks.
Finally fennyman, your wisdom bonafides deflate if you can't recognize the same intransigence and myopia in yourself and those around you on this site, that you recognize in me.
You show promise. If my memory serves me you made similar comments to me a few months ago, but I'm left with the impression that at the time you didn't rise to the uncomfortable challenge of examining your own possible failings.
*yawn*
October 17, 2009 - 17:38 ET by katainkentyou've written some form of this diatribe for months. Blah blah apologists... blah blah racists... blah blah rubes... You're obsession with refuting it betrays you. Your use of degrading language betrays you. Your use of language such as 'libruls' betrays you. Your need to debase everyone you speak with betrays you. You are transparent double aught.
I await your next diatribe accusing me of being a dupe, a pawn and a panderer. Possibly a racist, too? You're smoke on the wind double aught and simply a fascinating toy for people to play with. I find it very hard to take you seriously at all because all you can do is stand at your pulpit and call people names.
Whose need to debase, Katain?
October 19, 2009 - 02:55 ET by 007memoWhose need to debase, Katain?
"Your need to debase everyone you speak with betrays you."
Perhaps the only reponse you can possibly understand is "I know you are but what am I".
I'm willing to bet that any time I've accused you or anyone else here of being a dupe, or pawn or panderer, you first insulted me. Get a grip, you act like a bully who's been b slapped.
Hey, I just checked, this the only meanie thing I said about you on this page: "You close your eyes, stick your fingers in ears, and shout "nah, nah, nah", katain and general."
Uh, sorry.
And don't give me that sanctimonious crap about "Your use of degrading language betrays you, etc, etc". You'd have some credibilty if you called out any of the prolific vitriol your cohorts spew.
I have called people out
October 19, 2009 - 10:19 ET by katainkentand I don't call people names. I can probably find at least 15 posts where you have called people names so...
no dice Mr Bond. Have a pleasant day.
And I didn't call you names, katain
October 19, 2009 - 13:32 ET by 007memoAnd I didn't call you names, katain.
Did I wallow in the slop with the name callers, in response to their insults and epithets, and respond in kind? You betcha.
But the glaring fact remains, you didn't call anyone out on this page, nor any other page on this site, for their insults and epithets directed at me (go ahead and count that number up). Me, you know, the only person on this page that disagreed with them.
Would it be ok to call someone like you a hypocrite at this point, katain?
in defense of you?
October 19, 2009 - 13:55 ET by katainkentDay not going well, Bond? I thought this is what you came here for - To throw yourself into the pit with the "librul hating" lions and martyr yourself? No, I won't stand in the way of that. I am sure you can take care of yourself just fine.
Feel free to call me anything you see fit. I'll add it to the list.
Nope, interested in other opinions, kat
October 20, 2009 - 01:03 ET by 007memoI thought this is what you came here for - To throw yourself into the pit with the "librul hating" lions and martyr yourself?
Nope, I came here to hear a different perspective, and for that other thing I think maybe you had called the "sociological aspect". I don't need to be told what I want to hear; I come here to have my opinion challenged.
I never go on Kos and moveon, don't know anything about them except supposedly they promote only far left agendas, and their commenters allegedly are full of vitriol and epithets for any conservative opinion. I assume what's there is what I find here. Same church different pew.
I do read Huffpo and occasionaly comment there but it's too much of the same old same old one sided opinion. There are the repub "trolls" there as well but the attacks on them, IMHO, are usually pretty subdued compared to the extremes I find here. But, I was excoriated there once by a blog author for attacking her idiotic conspiracy theory - I think she called me a sexist, Republican troll among other things, LOL.
Quite surprisingly, I find little "intellectual" honesty (and I do hesitate to use that word "intellectual" since it seems to only create a visceral response among many here) on this site.
And I can fight with the best of them, but I'd much prefer to learn what makes "you people" tick, but I can't get much further than being the target of deep seated anger and raw emotion - not that there's anything wrong with that, but that is very surprising as well.
"Day not going well, Bond?" My day went great. And I'm not asking you to call out your cohorts vitriol and insults for my sake, Kat, I was just pointing out your hypocrisy for calling just me out and not the many other even worse comments on this page. I'm still searching for that intellectual honesty thing.
Hey 007

Chris Tingleman, the Wide-Mouth Frog
October 15, 2009 - 18:11 ET by CO2MakerHe never met an interviewee's sentence he couldn't interrupt. I can't seem to remember Rush saying anything about killing anybody. He said he wanted the president to fail. But Tingleman dreams of adding to the CO2 in the atmosphere by shooting Rush with a gas pellet. Schultzy wants to shoot him, too, IIRC. And all the rest of those nattering idiots, who, btw, are the ones who are preemptively hand-wringing their hands worrying that some white-ring nut will shoot the President. ("Oh pleeze, God, make it happen when my show is on live TV. Pleeze pleeze.") The only people I hold in lower esteem are Al Sharpyton and Rev. Jesse the Inarticulator.
All that was missing was the rope and the sheets.
October 15, 2009 - 18:11 ET by Tiger1. Rush was right today when he said he has been lynched in the manner of Justice Thomas. The only things missing from this mob of sports writers and "newsmen" was the rope and the sheets.
2. Jesse Jackson and Al Shartpon are not just race baiting hustlers, they are racial arsonists.
Food For Thought
October 15, 2009 - 18:24 ET by BourbeauI realize a celebrity such as Rush might let this go affront to his character go, and move on; it's very ting. However, should he give it a second thought, I would suggest he might consider selective litigation; pick one of these morons (e.g. Rick Sanchez at CNN) and drag their ass into court and make an example out of them. Force them to lawyer up; go thru the discovery process; uncover all of the communications this moron might have had w/others, and just make his life difficult. Then, in an act of graciousness, withdraw the suit, and send the moron back to his corner to sniffle.
After all this, today, Rush

If Rush brings a lawsuit
October 15, 2009 - 19:05 ET by richb313If Rush brings a lawsuit he will have a very difficult time proving any real damages. Here is my fantasy verdict and the defendent can be any of your favorite networks.
We the jury find in favor of the plaintif and award one US dollar in damages, plus court costs. We also find that the defendant should pay $500,000.00 million dollars in punative damages to be paid eqaully to Charities of your Honors Discretion.
It is a fantasy, but you never know.

Damages
October 15, 2009 - 21:35 ET by slickwillie2001Now that Rush Limbaugh has been asked to drop out of the bidding for the Rams, damages are easy to prove. Look at the value of the Rams now, and the value of an average good NFL team. Take that % appreciation and apply it to the investment that Rush was prepared to make in the Rams.
I also assume that Rush Limbaugh would give damages to charity anyway, less lawyer's fees. A judge can't make the determination that damages should go to charity except in Judge Judy's court.
Rush pics
October 15, 2009 - 23:00 ET by MCLIJazzWhy do these shows continue to use old pictures (and B-roll) of Rush when he was still heavy? He's slimmer now. Stay current.
I think I know the answer in some cases: make him look bad by using the old stuff (and the CPAC bouncing on a loop).
Matthews is No Nemesis of Limbaugh
October 16, 2009 - 01:50 ET by reasonsjesterMatthews must feign that he is some arch-nemesis to Limbaugh. He must get up in the morning and think he has relevance because he can smear people from his little liberal pulpit with no accountability from 90% of the news media. But everyone knows that Matthews cannot even hold Limbaugh's intellectual jock-strap. Heck, Chris probably can't even wear a jock-strap. He is such a butt-kissing inside-the-beltway type straining for relevance. So if he takes pot-shots at Limbaugh, he thinks he will be on Limbaugh's level and will gain credibility on the Manhattan cocktail circuit. But no dice, Chris. Everyone knows you're a paid hack doing a half-hearted and unprofessional job of being a paid hack.
