Chris Matthews, on Tuesday's "Hardball," painted town hall protesters as racist as he charged, "I think some of the people are upset because we have a black president." Matthews invited on Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and the Wall Street Journal's Stephen Moore to analyze the uproar at the town hall meetings and after Moore offered that some of the protesters' rage was caused by the "$800 billion obscene fiscal stimulus bill," Matthews interjected with his own explanation for the anger as he exclaimed: "Are you telling me that these guys were created by this new president? That the people we're watching on television with their guns and their attitudes about the republic weren't around before January 20th?!...Okay I think, I think some of the people are upset because we have a black president." [audio available here]
The following exchange was aired on the August 11, edition of "Hardball:"
STEPHEN MOORE, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: Certainly I agree that when, when people go to these kind of town hall meetings and tea parties they should be very respectful and polite. As you know, Chris, I've been on college campuses where I've been shouted down and not able to speak as a conservative and I think it's just ill behavior. But I do think it's important for people like Ed Rendell to understand there is an amazing amount of rage out in this country. It's, it's, it's, now again I think people should keep it under control.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Rage at what?
MOORE: Rage because of the $800 billion obscene fiscal stimulus bill...
MATTHEWS: Are you telling me that these guys were created by this new president? That the people we're watching on television with their guns and their attitudes about the republic weren't around before January 20th?!
MOORE: Well Chris here's the problem with, look I don't agree with that gentleman that you had on before. I think it is absurd to bring a gun to these kinds of meetings. So I agree with you entirely on that. But I think that you all are kind of missing the point of what's going on here. There are hundreds of millions, I mean hundreds of thousands of Americans who are so enraged about what's going on.
MATTHEWS: Okay.
MOORE: This is still a pretty conservative country and people are upset about the policies in Washington and they don't think the politicians are listening.
MATTHEWS: Okay I think, I think some of the people are upset because we have a black president. Let's take a look at Senator Specter's town meeting. Some of these statements people are
making.
MOORE: But Chris, c'mon!
MATTHEWS: Listen to what they're saying! Let's listen-
MOORE: This has nothing to do with race. That's, that's an absurd comment.
MATTHEWS: Oh no let's listen to what they're saying. Here's a Specter town meeting. And then Governor react to this.
(Begin clip)
UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN: I don't believe this is just about health care. It's not about TARP. It's not about left and right. This is about the systematic dismantling of this country. I'm only 35-years-old. I have never been interested in politics. You have awakened the sleeping giant. We are tired of this. This is why everybody in this room is so ticked off. I don't want this country turning into Russia, turning into a socialized country. My question for you is, what are you going to do to restore this country back to what our Founders created, according to the Constitution!
(End clip)
MATTHEWS: Governor Rendell this is primitive talk.
GOV. ED RENDELL: No question.
MATTHEWS: What do you make of it? Is this about the health care bill or is this about some basic, sort of, almost secessionist movement going on out there against any kind of federal role in anything to do with social welfare?
RENDELL: Well I grant Stephen one point. I think there are people who are legitimately concerned about the amount of debt the country is running up. And, and I think that is a legitimate concern. However to say that these people who come to the rally that, that's foremost on their mind. Stephen let's begin with the fact that many of these people are birthers. The birthers are absolutely nuts. They won't believe the clear and credible evidence that President OBama was born in Hawaii. Hawaii is part of the United States of America. I think the birthers are-
MOORE: Ed, Ed. Governor let me say this. I hope that you all on the left keep calling, calling these people who go to these tea parties and town hall meeting nuts, because you're talking about the broad USA.
RENDELL: I didn't say they were all nuts. I didn't say they were all nuts. No.
MOORE: But look you are! You look at a couple of people like this nut who brings a gun to this rally and say, "These people are just crazy! Why don't they just shut up and go home!" And you know, we, and Chris-
MATTHEWS: Okay.
MOORE: -I have to say it is so outrageous for you to say that these people are angry because we have a black president. I mean it makes me think that you're totally out of touch with...
MATTHEWS: No the reason, the reason-
MOORE: A lot of people voted for Barack Obama.
MATTHEWS: No the reason, the reason, the reason I say it is because I look at the map of the United States and I see where people question his birth. And I see the pattern of race here and it's historic in our nature. And I see it and I don't like it. And you're telling me these people just have, just have idol thoughts. "Well he may not be born here." Could it not be his ethnicity? And you deny that Stephen? You deny that's the issue here?
MOORE: Could it be? I'm sorry, what?
MATTHEWS: His ethnicity? That's not the issue here.
MOORE: I don't believe it is. I believe...
MATTHEWS: You really don't believe that?!
MOORE: I really don't.
MATTHEWS: And you look at the people, the kind of people that have been jumping up and down on this issue.
MOORE: Chris, Chris I think most conservatives, that I know, and I go to a lot of these meetings, they're proud of the fact that we have a black president today. They genuinely are proud of our country for electing a black, black president. They don't agree with his policies but the fact that we have grown beyond racism, I think, is a great thing for this country. I think most conservatives agree.
MATTHEWS: You think these people vote for Obama?
MOORE: Some of them did.
MATTHEWS: Oh c'mon!
MOORE: I know some of them do. I went to these tea parties. A lot of them are independents. A lot of the people who were angry, angry at George Bush as they are with Barack Obama. They just think our country is out of control. You don't, you can't borrow $10 trillion over the last decade. We're losing control of our country.

Thus, Chris Matthews gets to say anything he wants, because no one is going to question his tactics, his agenda, or his hypocricy.

“No Person, except a
natural-born Citizen…shall be eligible to that Office of President….” – Article
II, Section 1, Clause 5”
The phrase natural-born citizen is defined as one being “born in the
country, of parents who are citizens.” The word citizens has been obviously
pluralized. Furthermore, citizen was defined in the previous sentence, so the
meaning of that word is not in dispute. From these points, we can logically
deduce the meaning of “natural-born citizen” as one born in the country of two
parents who are obligated to perform duties as members of the society, who are
subject to the authority or jurisdiction of the society’s government, and who
enjoy the privileges of such a citizenship and can participate in the political
construct. If both parents do not fit that description, then they are not
citizens of the country and their children cannot inherit that condition at birth.
Despite what many so-called “scholars” agree upon in regards to the term
natural-born citizen, the writings of Emerich de Vattel point to a very
specific meaning – and his definition of the term is the only explicit one
known today. Vattel’s 1758 treatise, The Law of Nations, was based on the
reasoning and literature of past natural law theorists and his work was greatly
accepted and cited by our Founders and other jurists and statesmen for well
over a century.

Chris Matthews the racist
August 11, 2009 - 18:32 ET by merlin61When Mr. Matthews played the video of the 35 year old woman, where was anything about race mentioned by her? All she asked was that the Congress and the Senate follow the Constitution when they enact bills or laws.
What is wrong with that statement? This Health Reform Bill is not following the Constitution. The taking over of GM and firing of its CEO is not following the Constitution. This is straight governement takeover of our lives from birth to death.
Wake up Chris Matthews, the tingle has gone to your brain and all you see now is race, race, race and blame it on the conservatives. August 12, 2009 - 03:24 ET by konoObama had the best of both worlds -- pampered on the white side and affirmative-actioned on the black side. He's had more unearned privilege in his life than most upper-middle class whites ever knew. Yet he plays himself as a sophisticate who rose above the dung heap of disadvantage and discrimination. (Dubya's much-maligned 'cowboy' persona at least has a shred of credibility.)
I can understand him identifying with the stigma of being seen as black, so his 'black' affectations I can take in-stride. It's the incongruous grandiosity you might call his 'whiteness' that I detest. His smug "I'm in charge, you fall in line" and "if you disagree you just don't understand" attitude is what sickens me.

Your post is dead on. The only thing I can add is that since Jack Welch left GE, the stock price has been going down. If you are a shareholder of GE, you should be pissed about that. How many own GE stock in some some sort of long term investment pension plans they are part of? That's more then a few I would guess.
As for Matthews, I really don't understand how he stays on the air. The guy has never gotten ratings, & there is no real potential for growth. Maybe there are a handfull of people in the Beltway & Manhattan who think this clown is worth watching/listening to, but that sure as hell is not the case in the heartland.

Yeah, I've really gotten sick of Immelt's cross-promotional scam with the "Green is Universal" campaign. Just bleed the junk science propaganda into every pore of the network's programming, from prime time, to late night, from local and national news to football and try scaring people into buying your crappy light bulbs by sending your Today Show crew to all corners of the world to preach an environmental apocalypse. What a joke. No wonder the stock's in the toilet. I certainly won't buy any GE crap.
Tough opening match for Spurs. The last three seasons have begun with much optimism after much buying and selling (especially buying)...and the inflated expectation that came from the end of the 2006 season. Needless to say, those last three seasons were largely disappointing as the expectations had to balance out in light of a bad start fueled by an opening day away defeat to a Northern team (Bolton, then Sunderland, then Middlesbrough) followed by unexpected early losses. I think that because the opening match is home to Liverpool, and in light of the attention that Manchester City (and to a lesser extent Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton) have generated, Spurs can float under the radar of more realistic expectations. Sixth is about the best we can hope for, however...hopefully Harry will use the off-year from the UEFA Cup as an opportunity to go for the FA Cup...I'm kind of sick of seeing the "Top Four" at Wembley every May. That said, your Reds are in as good a position to win the League than they have been in some time. Alonso is a massive loss, but Arsenal and United have lost a fair bit more...and I can only see Chelsea as having stayed the same or gotten better from last year. Lucky break with the Gerrard affray trial, mind. :-)

He makes a statement about the racist attitudes of people at town meetings and then to prove his point he uses a clip of someone who said absolutely nothing racial and then calls it primitive. He then scoffs at the idea that some protester may have in fact voted for Obama.
MATTHEWS: You think these people vote for Obama?
MOORE: Some of them did.
MATTHEWS: Oh c'mon!
In Matthews's world everyone voted for Obama or they were klansmen. The possibility that someone who fell for Obama's schtick is now criticizing him is unfathomable because everyone He knows absolutely loves Obama.

Race Card
August 11, 2009 - 19:21 ET by kilrodFred Reed was a police reporter for one of the large Washington newspapers....He now writes a column which can be googled 'Fred on Everything'.
Fred published a weekly online column in which he got to say the things his editors would never, ever have let him write in the paper. His stuff is iconoclastic and various articles have probably offended everyone regardless of political orientation. So, with the warning that 'This is definitely not politically correct,' here comes Fred.
The following is an essay regarding the failings of a system and a
culture. Please note that he elegantly describes the mood of many
Americans and he does so without prejudice.
Slavery Reparations ..........by Fred Reed!
On the Web I find that Henry Louis Gates Jr., the chairman of
Afro-American Studies at Harvard, is demanding that whites pay reparations to blacks.
It's because of slavery, see. He is joined in this endeavor by a gaggle
of other professional blacks. I guess he'll send me a bill, huh?
I feel like saying, 'Let me get this straight, Hank. I'm slow. Be
patient. You want free money because of slavery, right? I don't blame you.' I'd like free money too. Tell you what. I believe in justice. I'll give you a million dollars for every slave I own, and another million for every year you were a slave. Fair enough? But tell me, how many slaves do you suppose I have? In round numbers, I mean...Say to the nearest dozen.
And how long were you a slave?
Oh. In other words, I owe you reparations for something that I didn't do and didn't happen to you. That makes sense. Like lug nuts on a birthday cake.
Personally, I think you owe me reparations for things you didn't do and never happened to me. I've never been coated in Dutch chocolate and thrown from the Eiffel Tower. I'll bet you've never done it to anyone. I want reparations. Kind of silly, isn't it?
But if we're going to talk about reparations, that's a street that runs in two directions. You want money from me for what some other whites did to some other blacks in another century. How about you guys paying whites reparations for current expenses caused by blacks? Not long ago blacks burned down half of Los Angeles, a city in my country. Cities are expensive, Hank. Build one sometime and you'll see what I mean. Whites had to pay taxes to repair Los Angeles for you. You can send me a check.
Now, yes, I know you burned LA because you didn't like the verdict in the trial of those police officers. Well, I didn't like the verdict in the Simpson trial. But I didn't burn my house and loot Korean grocers.
Over the years blacks have burned a lot of American cities: Newark, Detroit, Watts, on and on. Now add in the fantastic cost over the years of welfare in all its forms, of large police forces, for cells and jails and security systems in department stores. I can't live in the capital city of my own country because of crime committed by blacks. Toss in the cultural cost of lowering standards in everything for the benefit of blacks. See what I mean?
Now, I'd view things differently if you said, 'Fred, blacks can't get
anywhere in a modern country without education. We know that. We need better schools, smarter teachers, harder courses, books with smaller pictures and bigger words. Can you help us?'
I'd say, 'Hallelujah! Hoo-ahh! Not just yes, but hell yes. Let's sell an
aircraft carrier and get these folks some real schools and get them into the economic main-stream.' I'd say it partly because it would be the right thing to do, and partly, because I'd like to add you guys to the tax base.
The current custodial state is expensive. I'd just love for blacks to
study and learn to compete and stop burning places. But is it going to happen? You may not believe it, but I, and most whites, don't like seeing blacks as miserable and screwed up as they are. I spend a fair amount of time in the projects. Those places are ugly. It's no fun watching perfectly good kids turn into semi-literate dope dealers who barely speak English. It just plain ain't right. But, Hank, what am I supposed to do about it? I can't do your children's homework. At some point, people have to do things for themselves, or they don't get done. Maybe it's time.
I'll tell you what I see out in the world, Hank... I think blacks are too accustomed to getting anything they want by just demanding it. True, it has worked for over half a century. Get a few hundred people in the street, implicitly threaten to loot and burn, holler about slavery, and the Great White Cash Spigot turns on.
Thing is, whites don't much buy it any longer. Most recognize that what once was a civil-rights movement has become a shakedown game. Few people still feel responsible for the failings and inadequacies of blacks.
Political correctness keeps the lid on -- but everyone knows the score. Which scares me, Hank.
On one hand, blacks hate whites and incline toward looting and Burning. (The whites you hate are the ones who marched in the civil-rights movement. Ever think about that?)
On the other hand, whites quietly grow wearier and wearier of it. Not good.
On the third hand (allow me three hands, for rhetorical convenience), blacks keep demanding things. As I write, you demand reparations for slavery. Blacks in Oklahoma (I think it was) want money for some ancient race riot. Other blacks reject the Declaration of Independence, blacks in New York hint broadly at burning and looting over a trial, yet more demand the elimination of the Confederate flag, and the federal equal opportunity
apparatus, which means blacks, wants to sue Silicon Valley for not hiring nonexistent black engineers. That's a lot of demanding for one month, Hank. What happens if whites ever say, 'No' ?
Now, how about you? You've got a cushy job up there at Harvard, and you can hoot and holler about what swine and bandits whites are. I guess it's lots of fun, and you get a salary for it. But don't you think you might do blacks more good if you told them to complain less and study more?
For example, if you want blacks to work in Silicon Gulch, the best
approach might be to find some really smart black guys, and get them to study digital design, not Black Studies. That's how everybody else does it. It works. Then blacks wouldn't feel left out, and racial tensions would decline. Sound like a plan?
Just out of curiosity, how many hours a week do professors of
Afro-American Studies spend in the projects, encouraging poor black kids?
Remember, only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier
Probably not a good idea to
August 11, 2009 - 20:17 ET by ckc1227Probably not a good idea to copy an entire article from another site. They have laws against such things.

August 12, 2009 - 10:08 ET by jessieHI am a first time protester and I'm not upset because we have a black president. I'm upset because we have THIS black president. It takes more than organizing to run a country. He doesn't have what it takes. Neither does the czars or the other people he has around him.
"community organizing"
August 12, 2009 - 21:39 ET by lotr"Community organizing" is, in fact, a nefarious Saul Alinsky leftist tactic for radicals to seize power by hook or by crook. I am appalled that the Republicans (including Sarah Palin) did not bring this fact to light prior to the national election. There should've been less Ayers/Wright (mere associations) and more Alinsky, the progenitor of both Obama and Hillary, and the reason why neither of them can be trusted.

For the last time: We don't have a black President!!!

SCREWBALL WITH SCREWBALL...
August 12, 2009 - 11:44 ET by danybhoyStupidity seems to be the driving force behind Matthews & MSNBC's entire lineup. Classic lib logic, play the race card. If they could'nt play the race card, they could'nt play cards. But I could be strongarmed into believing that Matthews would be willing to play strip poker with Obama, BathTubBoy, Eugene Robinson, Special Ed, & Schuster. I'm assuming that World Poker Tour 2009 would beat that in the ratings, that's because MSNBC ALWAYS gets beat in the ratings.

I for one
August 12, 2009 - 11:48 ET by StarAZI am not cringing over this racism stuff anymore...I object to this president because he is a phony, a liar, snobby, irritating, and not as smart as he thinks he is--and he thinks I am a dopey goober he can roll over with his sophist remarks. Skin color isn't in the mix. Who cares?
Hey chrissie?

His ancestor sold the American Black ancestors into slavery.
If it weren't for his ancestors we would never have had a slavery prblem to begin with.

"I think some of the people
August 12, 2009 - 14:18 ET by harry flashman"I think some of the people are upset because we have a black president." C. Mathews (D-SRM).
Geeze Louise! The Press can't even get that right. We have a half-black President. What? His Caucasian mother never existed? Those white genes in The One have no value? They must strangely be considered his "dark" side.
We defnietly know we're winning on all fronts now that the "Progressives" have the media playing the race card for them.
We all know how the Left defines a "racist"
A "racist" is anyone winning an argument with a Liberal.
