On Monday night's "Hardball," Chris Matthews feared Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, in her nomination fight to head HHS, would be a target of "the terrorism of the, of the anti-abortion people." Then perhaps realizing he called all pro-lifers terrorists, Matthews feebly attempted to amend the statement, as he tried to clarify, "I mean verbal terrorism."[audio excerpt available here]
The following exchange was aired during the March 2, edition of "Hardball":
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Let's talk about, let’s get to something really tough.
JONATHAN MARTIN, POLITICO: Sure.
MATTHEWS: Kathleen Sebelius, very likeable, very impressive. I think of the woman who becomes the governor in Mr. Holland’s Opus, remember the one who comes back?
LOIS ROMANO, WASHINGTON POST: Right.
MATTHEWS: Who becomes the governor, the woman governor. She looks like her, in fact. Is she gonna get through the, the terrorism of the, of the anti-abortion people?
ROMANO: Yeah I think she’s gonna do that and I think they’ve got a clear shot.
MATTHEWS: I mean verbal terrorism.
ROMANO: Yeah they’re, she’ll get through that.
MARTIN: I think she will, for one important reason. Sam Brownback, her home state senator, an ardent Catholic pro-lifer, Chris, has said kind things about her, signaling that he will not stand in her way. So if that’s any, sort of indication I think that bodes well for Sebelius.
MATTHEWS: But are we gonna have days and days of hearings about what she did about this guy who was a late-term abortion doctor?
MARTIN: I’m sure it’ll come up.

March 2, 2009 - 18:33 ET by RpeggioHe's so brilliant, pro-lifers are verbal terrorists...ok, stupid extreme statement, but using his logic, then pro-abortionists are actual terrorists, because they're for the beheading and tearing apart of fetuses/unborn babies.
How about being pro-adoption a-hole! Matthews is done, old news, even liberal friends of mine make fun of him and Olbermann.
Hmmm
March 2, 2009 - 19:49 ET by klchadwickHmmm, why doesn't it surprise me that your liberal friends make fun of Tingles and Bathtub Boy? I mean the fact that the two go after each other enough and make fun of each other often enough, basically shows how much they can't even really stand each other!

From a network who thought it was okay for Obama to vote for post-birth abortion in Illinois, they will probably spin Sebelius as being 'to the right of Obama on abortion' and wonder if she is to 'moderate' a choice.

Heaven forgive us. Lord have Mercy, because we're all going to answer for this evil...
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam
We are already reaping the rot of this evil...
March 2, 2009 - 21:57 ET by CKA in Red State USAIf God is one of judgment -- and I believe that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, including Christ Jesus, the Son, is -- then He's removing His hand of mercy from America.
How can he not?
Through Roe v. Wade, we've now killed approximately the same number of humans that died or were killed as soldiers and civilians around the globe during World War II.
We've become a much more efficient, long-term killing machine than Hitler was. It took him about 12 years to kill six or so million Jews and other innocents. In the first four or five years of Roe v. Wade, we did that.
That the majority of the voting electorate elevated an infanticidist to power was a no-return turning point in America, I believe.
And given how abortionist-in-chief Obama's moved to advance abortion, remove protections from doctors and others who refuse to perform them and now selecting abortion-on-demand-supporter infanticidist Sebelius--Obama has become the merchant of death in anti-Christian America's culture of death.
We all have the blood of millions on our hands.
And it got worse on Nov. 4, 2008, and then formally on Jan. 20, 2009.
We are a spiritually perverse nation--and I cannot imagine that God will tolerate our behavior a lot longer.
We elected an evil man, a pretend Christian who does not even know that the Savior in which he claims to believe was a bringer of life.
And that evil man does only what's natural to him: He begets more evil on his staff.
To him and his cohorts in and out of his administration, including the advocacy/adversary media, life has no meaning.
But they are real men and women, aren't they? They plot against and speak against the most vulnerable of all humans. They make a mother's womb a battleground.
They have turned on life itself.
That's spiritually perverse and evil, IMO.
I don't disagree. Which
March 3, 2009 - 07:18 ET by moderncommentaries83I don't disagree.
Which is why, now during Lent and always, it's imperative to fast and pray for the salvation of our nation.
Anyone who thinks abortion is the "solution" to a woman's problems is, as you say, spiritually perverse and evil.
What's worse is what they do to women after an abortion. If a woman suffers mentally or physically, she's swept under the rug. I've had abortion advocates tell me any women who suffer ill mental effects from abortion were "crazy" to begin with and the abortion only triggered whatever mental problems were all ready there. That's really "compassionate" toward women and their health care, isn't it?
If she dies after an abortion, well, that's too bad for her. Sweep her corpse under the rug, too, and keep marching on with blather about how things were worse before Roe.
While I believe on this issue my conscience is clear, America chose to put the economy (which Obama will destroy anyway) above protecting life. Retribution will come and even those of us who oppose all abortion will suffer for the sinful ways of others.

Kathleen Sebelius has a lot
March 2, 2009 - 20:38 ET by fitzfongKathleen Sebelius has a lot more to worry about than how she is perceived by those who oppose abortion (classy touch, Matthews). She has been a wretched Governor who's so incompetent at running the budget in her own state that she considered going delinquent on income tax refunds to her constituents. It is amazing how eagerly Obama embraces failure. He better hope that the whole of his appointments is a hell of a lot better than the sum of its parts.

March 2, 2009 - 21:42 ET by CKA in Red State USA. . .not the anti-abortion people, but the Creator of life.
As for Brownback, he, like all Catholic and Protestant Christians, had better understand that there is no compromise regarding life: You're either for it, as the Christ was, or you aren't.
And if you aren't and you're a Catholic, well, then may the admonition of Pope to Nancy Pelosi deafen you.
It's disappointing to hear that yet another politician calling himself Christian and pro-life will yield to abortionist-in-chief Obama and his culture of death and administrators of death including, it appears, Sebelius.
As for the "verbal terrorism" of the anti-abortion folks?
Honestly, do Mathews and his ilk have any shred of common sense, decency and conscience left?

March 2, 2009 - 23:19 ET by Southern voterChris Matthews is also Catholic ....what a waste...to have as much visability and opportunities to speak out for life and he always chooses the opposite...just as the Kennedy's, Kerry's, Pelosi,Biden, and the rest of the Catholic politicians who appear to have sold their soul in order to be in the forefront to be able to have power and to protect 'choice ' ...
P.S. we didn't see ashes on Pelosis' forehead last week on Ash Weds....appears that little visit with the Pope helped her redefine the real meaning of 'choice'....

March 3, 2009 - 07:20 ET by GeneralAlChris Matthews reminds me somewhat of the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. I'm anxiously awaiting his rendition of "If I Only Had A Brain!" As a matter fact, as the Obamessiah steers America down the road to Communism, I believe that many of the elitist media snobs will eventually be singing the same tune. As I observe the complaints and comments from these Phony Baloney Commie Cronies of the DNCP [Democratic National Communist Party], I can't help but think of my boyhood and a kid named Walt. A couple of kids and I got into a stone throwing fight on opposite sides of the creek by my house. Walt was supposedly my friend and was fishing beside me when the fight broke out. He asked to get out of there saying "Please leave me out of it!" He then crossed the bridge to the other side and proceeded to join the others in throwing stones at me. When his MOMMY appeared, he proceeded to lay all the blame at my feet and his Mommy called my Mom to complain. To me this is the illustration of the MSM and the DNCP in a nutshell. In the meantime, they're having a cow over at the NY Times, aka Pravda about our use of the term "Socialist." The truth hurts, doesn't it NYT and Chrissy?
