What the Hell? How is this possible? I understand the burden of paying for a secondary education on those of us not fortunate enough to be a minority but $200,000.00.

If my son had to pay for his college education at a private Ohio school sans any  grants, etc. it still would have only totaled $120,000.00 (Ha! Only ...)

How does a 19 year old nursing student run up 200k in debt?  This has to be a campaign plant or a girl spouting BS.  The most expensive Ivy League schools are about 40k a year.  Unless she went to Harvard at age 14, I highly doubt she has 200k in tuition debt.

How in Hell does a 19 yr-old get 200,000 dollars in debt to go to nursing school, "19 yrs old"????? If this is true no wonder the gov is broke and the education system is broken!!!!

... for people "trying" to pay their mortgage?  Does this mean that for those that are no longer "trying" to pay, there is no freeze?  I doubt it. And Andrea instead of getting "touched" by that scene, most unbiased people would be left wondering -- how come so much debt for a 19 y.o.  Andrea has no problem making others pay for her supposed student debt.  Obama's massive wealth redistribution plan is almost here folks.  Hold onto your wallets.

I don't understand.  My loans are high and I am not looking to government for help.  I took a calculated risk that if I took out loans because I believed that I could find a good enough paying job to pay them back slowly, which I did.

And as far as being a nurse, my wife is a nurse and barely has any student loans.  She worked during the first two years of prerequisites while going to community college, and then applied for grants and scholarships while she finished her bachelor's degree.

If you don't work to get scholarships and grants, then you need to go to a cheaper college.  And the need for nurses is so bad that it really doesn't matter what college you go to get your nursing degree.

sad thing ... this girl is not even near the point where she'll have to pay those loans back ... why is she crying about it now?  it seems as if the youth of america is eager to jump on the nanny-wagon so they never have to deal with difficult situations.  for the most part, college students should have nothing to bitch about ... life is pretty easy for the majority of them ... and for those facing difficulties, they're usually too busy to show up to a presidential pep rally.

meanwhile, the rest of us ... you know, those who do work, keep our families fed and pay our mortgages ... we just keep our mouth shut and deal with it ... all we get is a tax increase ... yea. 

As concerned as he was, I thought he was going to pull out a wad of money and give it to her to fix her pain. But we all know how little the Obama's contribute to charities.

A lot of these students don't go into debt from tuition alone, they will live off their credit cards during their school years, charging clothes, food, trips, etc. My brother's dating a woman who lived like this and is now having to pay off a whopper of a debt bill.

How many of these students are working at least two jobs to help out while they're in school? Probably not many. Much more fun to get loans, live off your credit cards, and complain about how in debt you are.

This reminds me of that touching moment w/ Bush & Cindy Sheehan at the private ceremony, and how our MSM always reminded us of it, during all that coverage of Bush never agreeing to meet with Sheehan. (I will now remove my tongue from my cheek). (;~> gary

This is such garbage, I have ~10k in student loans that I have to pay back and Im not running around looking for sympathy. God forbid anyone have to actually PAY FOR THEIR OWN SCHOOL. My wife was reading me this article about generations, and part of it was how my generation which this girl is apart of is the whiner generation that never had to fail or do anything on their own. Everything was handed to them, they got trophies for their sports even if they stunk, they played sports where there were no winners or loser, etc. they have never earned anything and think they deserve to be given it all. WORST. GENERATION. EVER.

My brother who is a nurse went to a community college...paid off his debt pretty quickly and got a good education.  Nursing pays pretty well and even with those debts with good spending habits she could have it payed off in 10 years or less.

I went to the same community college, transfered and stayed in state at the big university.  I worked all 5 years, had 2 1/2 years paid off when I graduated, and 12,000 in loans.  I think I did pretty well.  It can be done.

My parents had no money to send me to college. I paid my own way, with some fairly minor help from grants. I worked crap jobs and I attended a public university. Now I'm, frankly, making way more money than my parents ever did.

I can't even fathom going $24,000 into debt. Unless she's talking about medical bills, she has no excuse. She's part of the problem and I see no reason to bail her out.

Hey Barack!  If you want to "provide some relief" then write her a check with your own money.  Don't take food out of my family's mouth for your ridiculous social programs.

Government funding and assistance is partly to blame for increasing tuitions.  If a university can expect that government will assist student tuitions they will increase their rates with confidence knowing that government will be the students' insurance in case they run into trouble, like this young student.

You know, for all of you out there who paid your way through college ... did you resent it? Or did it make you a better person? 

For me, it absolutely made me a better person. I appreciated my parents so much more. I realized what it takes to make it in the world - HARD WORK!!! What happens if we start handing all kids everything they want, when they want it? If you don't have to earn anything in life, what type of person do you become? 

I really hope America wakes up before it is too late. As we all know, it is virtually impossible to reverse or stop a government program once it is in place.  

God bless her little heart, she's having to borrow money to go to school! We're in that much debt from college and have never whined about it. You get a job, you pay down your loans, problem solved.

There are still countries out there where poor kids don't stand a chance of going to college. But brats in America expect everything to be free now.

I thought tuition in public state schools was around $5,000.

A quick google search tells me that in California for instance, 70% of nurses are educated in community college which runs $12 per unit! (wow).

Good for McCain to remind the media that their polls, interpretations, perceptions, etc. don't mean dip!   Whoever gets more of our votes--the votes of the American citizens--will be president, and those results will be revealed in due time.  Be patient, media, and let the people decide!
