On the eve of the Iowa caucuses Chris Matthews seemed to be issuing marching orders to Democratic voters as he declared that only a Barack Obama victory would send the message to the world that a "despised" America was truly ready to "change." In the event of an Obama win Matthews offered the following preview of his election night spin on the January 2 edition of MSNBC's "Hardball":
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Every few generations America makes up its mind to change things. We decide we're in a rut. We decide to get ourselves to get out of that rut and we take the necessary leap. It's what we did when we were stuck in the Great Depression in 1932 and picked Franklin Roosevelt. It's what we did in 1952 when we were stuck in Korea and picked Dwight Eisenhower. What some of us did in 1980 when we were stuck with double-digit inflation, double-digit interest rates and double-digit hostages stuck in Iran and chose Ronald Reagan. Barack Obama, on the eve of Iowa, is the very name tonight, the very statement, the very being of the word "change." If I sit here tomorrow night reporting that he has won the Iowa caucuses the world will hear it and the world will be stunned because the United States of America, despised by so many, for lording it over the world these days, for dictating regional solutions by virtue of our military power will be saying, "No more." No more of invading countries. No more dictating a war-Americana. No more, "our way or the highway." No more Bush doctrine. No more Bush.

I think we can understand why Obama did not join the Mormon Polygamy Bashing train when the Dems rolled that out a couple of months ago. The question I have is why no one discussed this as it applied to Obama's past. Events like this would cause ripples in one's psyche that color perceptions for life.
Even leaving the Muslim question out, though it remains an 800 pound gorilla in the room, why no illumination by the media into the decidedly dubious nature of the Pastor Obama is close friends with and the church he currently attends. If Huckabee's evangelicalism or Romney's Mormonism are fair topics, then so should Obama's relationship with an historically bigoted Pastor, the practices and principles of that church and what does Obama believe in.
If Guiliani's business practices are questioned, where is the same scrutiny applied to Obama and his amazing home and property windfall with indicted longtime Syrian born friend Antoin Rezko (indicted on federal charges of business fraud and influence peddling involving the administration of Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois, and who was friends with the son of Elijah Muhammad, the deceased leader of the Nation of Islam - now led by Louis Farrankhan.), not to mention the sweetheart business deals Obama bestowed upon Rezko?
And the list could go on.

He was the only Democrat I found palatable... until his comment that Musharraf should "step down" in the wake of Benazir Bhutto. I think that was an enormous mistake that would have negative international repercussions if he were to become president.
I don't understand what has happened to the Democrats these past few years. They seem to be doing the most selfish, childish and destructive things as if they resurrected Sherman's Scorched Earth tactics of the Civil War. From Harry Reid's statement that we have lost the war, to Nancy Pelosi's Middle East diplomatic debacle junket, to Murtha's exhortation that American Marines are murderers before any court proceedings are initiated, to Congress wanting a domestically meaningless bill recognizing Turkey as having committed genocide against Armenians nearly 100 years ago which could result in the severance of vital diplomatic ties with Turkey and spark even more bloodshed, the words and behavior of Democrats has been counterproductive to America's interests. And we could write a book on the destructiveness of Jimmy Carter towards both domestic and international affairs.
It's as if the Democrats are operating on a Lord Of The Flies mentality with an unhealthy dose of jealous lover's enmity - if I can't have you then no one will have you - thrown in for added spite.

How does one explain all the countries who have recently elected Pro-American leaders (i.e. France, Germany, numerous former Eastern Bloc countries). I would wager most if hardly any of these know it alls have ever visited any of the countries that are suposed to hate America. By and large, people I've met and talked to in other countries are far more concerned about the issues in their own countries, which include lousy health care (often), high taxes, corrupt politicians and their soccer teams.
