As far as Geraldo Rivera is concerned the GOP presidential candidates are guilty until proven innocent on whether or not they "hate" Hispanics. On Sunday's "Geraldo At Large," the Fox News host teased a segment on the GOP Univision debate this way:
GERALDO RIVERA: In the current anti-immigration climate did these Republican debates convince Hispanics that they don't hate them?
Later, on the December 9 show, Rivera continued the slurs against the GOP candidates when he introduced the Carl Cameron report on the debate:
RIVERA: Meanwhile in Miami, in what had to be an awkward evening, most of the GOP candidates met to debate on the Spanish-language TV network Univision. "Trying to put lips on a pig," is how one analyst put the, the tough job the candidates face in trying to convince Hispanic voters that the anti-immigration attitudes expressed by most of the GOP candidates doesn't mean they hate Spanish people. How'd they do and where was Colorado's radical anti-immigration candidate Tom Tancredo? Let's ask Campaign Carl Cameron who joins us live from Miami.

He speaks of what he doesn't know about. I saw him last night after the debate and he was including himself and his family as being in the center of the immigration problem.
What Geraldo Rivera doesn't tell his viewers is that he is a Puerto Rican, so whether he was born on mainland USA or on the island of Puerto Rico, he was born an American citizen.Furthermore, he speaks of hate and he himself portrays lots of hate towards anyone person that doesn't want to give complete amnesty to all illegal Latinos.
I as a Latino completely disagree with him. He is the typical Liberal that stereotypes everyone that he disagrees with.
Please don't you stereotype Latinos and believe Geraldo Riveras canard that we Latinos vote in blocs and that wee don't have our own mind, ok?

I have heard him on O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes etc always claiming that Republicans stereotype Latinos. The man is too stupid to realize that by making this claim it is HE the one that is stereotyping and making generalizations about Republicans.
Rivera is an idiot and for the life of me I don't understand why the military keeps on allowing this hateful man to be embeded with our troops, especially after he said on television where our troops where.
People need to realize that individuals like Geraldo Rivera, that the Democratic Party DO NOT SPEAK FOR ALL LATINOS!!!!

tried and failed before
December 10, 2007 - 19:03 ET by UndercoverConservativethis reminds me of the elections in CA, mainly the notorious recall and Governor races. Democrats banked big on making conservatives look like racists for opposing drivers' licenses for illegals and tighter controls on welfare/benefits recipients. But it backfired pretty badly-since Dems and liberals stand for the very things devout Catholics can't abide by. And guess what? There are a whole lot of hispanics-many long term citizens, who would rather have people *earn* citizenship rather than sell their eternal soul to get benefits. Hispanics who have actually earned citizenship hold those who seek shortcuts in dire contempt. The only ones supporting illegal immigration are youngsters taking their citizenship for granted, agents provocateurs, and criminal gangs (nortenos and sudenos-yet another artificial division where gangs can't even play together long enough to complete Reconqista)-everyone else may be socially liberal, but not as far as the leftists are trying to push nowadays.
This hatred of moral decay and collective offense at a political party trying to destroy hispanic Catholics' Faith, Church, God and Savior all at the same time, lead to Democrats' crushing defeat in any election where organized fraud didn't have time to set up properly.

December 10, 2007 - 19:23 ET by UndercoverConservativelow end reports by even the most apologetic media outlets declare between four and eight million *workers*. This deliberately leaves out children (and the MSM loves calling anyone under 18 a child, and anyone under 20 a "teen") and people "unable" to work. Even if we keep the low, four million able bodied worker count, how many *multiples* is that of the ENTIRE US ARMED FORCES?!
That's counting all branches, commissioned officers and assorted REMF's. If you just counted active duty combat personnel, then based on the lowest numbers of "them" and the highest number of "us"...and assuming, say only one tenth of these illegals are hostile gang types bent on rebuilding "Azatlan"...
We're Screwed. We have an invading army *already here*. Forget the "Red Dawn" scenario-sure a few paratrooping Russians can't hold any territory. But add in, say, Four Hundred Thousand street-combat experienced thugs, all out of any uniform, all living among your population, all experienced with the use of automatic weapons (didn't Chavez-Venezuela's not that far south-import a million AK's recently and buy a turn key factory from the Russians?) and knowledgeable of smuggling and local infrastructure (who's building the houses, doing the janitorial work, mowing the lawns at all sorts of government and utility companies?)...Now add a more realistic number instead of only using the lowest end, liberal-massaged estimates... even a schoolboy playing Risk would have the ability to permanently hold most of the nation.

December 10, 2007 - 18:14 ET by drillanwrthe tough job the candidates face in trying to convince Hispanic voters that the anti-immigration attitudes expressed by most of the GOP candidates doesn't mean they hate Spanish people
Easy enough ... By appealing to those of "Hispanic" roots/heritage who came to this country LEGALLY that it is completely unfair for the flood of illegals plaguing and weakening our strained system are hurting them more than anyone else ... Mostly because they (legal Hispanic immigrants) came here the right and legal way ... Went through the process. Earned their citizenship and ARE strong and loyal Americans who not only add to our system on all levels, but make it even better.
Besides, Geraldo, as far as I know, illegal aliens should not be voting ... So why should the "GOP" give a crap about what they think.
The thing to do is as I stated above ... Define to the Hispanic population (legal) that they (the GOP) fully understand the diference between illegal and legal "immigration"... Besides, I believe those Hispanics here legally are none too thrilled with the problem of illegal aliens in this country.
But then, leave it to a liberal to paint the issue with a very broad and sloppy brush.

December 10, 2007 - 18:46 ET by c5thenNotice how the spinmeisters call it immigration to confuse the simple-minded and raise the "Hispanic" and racial issues as if all immigrants are Hispanic and nothing else. In reality by trying to polarize immigrants vs immigrants it is the left who are showing their racist attitudes. The left always want to categorize people by some characteristic and then treat all with that characteristic as the same. That is called "prejudice" or bigotry.
Almost all legal immigrants are against ILLEGAL immigrants for the same reason as people standing in a long line for something that they really want will be against anyone just walking up to the front and trying to cut in.

December 10, 2007 - 19:06 ET by BlazerThe whole boat that got missed here concerning immigration reform, is that most of the immigration is coming from one particular third world country in our own hemisphere right next door to us.
Here in the 21st century their should not be a third world country next to the U.S., I mean look at Canada.
Is it our policy of immigration that need's to be reformed, or is it the corrupt economical practices and cronyism of the government's of these countries that use the United States as their GDP in the form of remittances and as their own personal welfare system.
Last time I checked their were already immigration law's on the book's that if enforced would do the trick.

Jerry Rivers suffers from muy denaro syndrome
December 10, 2007 - 19:04 ET by Lame CherryIt is always hillarious to listen to Jerry Geraldo Rivers Rivera speaking for all Spanish people as if he was Jesse Black Jack Jackson.
Geraldo can also be seen speaking for Jewish causes as he is now sexing a Jewish wife so he thinks he is an expert there too.
The answer to Geraldo's question is NO, nothing any American tells a border buster is going to make them think any different, because they are all 3rd world, mass march protest, have the Catholic Priest tell you what to do in mass and bust borders in mass..........and it is their looser mentality to group together and think some booger man is out to get them.
It is always a mistake to group Germans as a mass when they are the majority or Jews in a minority when they control majority shares in businesses. People who are successful do not join mobs. So to group Cubans who are successful, Mexicans who are successful is ridiculous..........those light skinned Vincente Fox types of Spanish French origins have nothing in common with those dark skinned Mexicans they claim to support any more than Democrats support hispanics in any way and would boot them out of America if it meant they would gain power forever.
Jerry Rivers is worth a chuckle.........just like Kayne West is a goof ball in "George Bush hates blacks".

candance...true, I watched
December 10, 2007 - 21:23 ET by Jercandance...true, I watched a good bit of Geraldo during the Clinton years. Rivera was just about the only "journalist" [and I use the term loosely] with his own show who was a consistent and staunch defender of Clinton. There were lots of entertaining debates with an endless parade of Clinton critics, or roundtables with critcs and supporters.
When he (shockingly) jumped to Fox News, O'Reilly immediately had him on the Factor to reprimand him about his support for Clinton [such heresy was apparently strictly prohibited by the Fox employee manual] and Geraldo appeared appropriately chastened.
I have rarely seen Geraldo on Fox, but when I have, he was never doing political commentary--mostly seemed to be pro-military pieces [which I thought commendable]. Of course he has become very outspoken with his pro-immigrant views, which he has expressed very passionately on O'Reilly.
Does he now do "liberal" political commentary regarding any other issues, or just with respect to immigration?

December 11, 2007 - 01:11 ET by fitzfongYes, Jer. You do use the term "journalist" loosely when describing Geraldo...but given what passes for journalism at AP, Reuters, the New York Times, et al, perhaps not too loosely.
Geraldo cultivated this "down the middle" reputation largely on the back of the OJ Simpson Trial. His sympathies were tilted heavily towards the Brown family, and he was highly critical of Simpson and his stable of attorneys and mouthpieces. As a result, a lot of the West LA types (my sister and mother included...though they're not from West LA) started viewing him as a legitimate journalist without obvious biases. Hell, back then, even the National Enquirer drew high praise for its journalistic integrity (Carol Burnett must have gotten a chuckle).
Anyway, Geraldo has always been one of these shyster types who brag about having a law degree and get called in to analyse the missing SWF college student of the day. Usually he comes on, flirts with the cute young Fox News hostesses for a few minutes, then discusses the "mysterious disappearance". Typically Fox News keeps him away from the most serious stories, because he tends to get too involved...like the time he drew maps of troop locations in the Iraqi sands. He has that Shep Smith tendency to show up on location during a major tragedy (Virginia Tech Massacre, Hurrican Katrina, etc.) to hand out hugs and to marvel at the sound of his own voice, but he's largely a non-entity on the network...until you get him started on illegal immigration. At that point, he gets self-righteous, mean-spirited and frighteningly aggressive. He launches into unreasonable, extremely personal, and, at times, borderline threatening tirades against anyone who sees things differently. No doubt he's passionate, but he's a loose cannon...and his passion combined with his big mouth and massive ego betray his lack of objectivity. In short, he's a lunatic who has no business working for a news network.

December 10, 2007 - 20:26 ET by Col SmokePrecisely. The Republican platform needs to be clearly anti-illegal immigration, no amnesty, deport all illegals in barges to the tip of Baja California with a pack of Ramen noodles and a Pepsi. It took my family decades, multiple sponsors and thousands and thousands of dollars to finally get permission to immigate to the US (their sin, coming from a southern European country that has always supported freedom and Christianity).
Why even bother courting Hispanics? No matter what some say, extremely few of them are naturally conservative. Look at the state of California's General Asembly - we are in the socialist talons of Chicano crooks who make people like Pelosi, Hitlery and Kennedy look like Goldwater.
Minorities don't vote Republican - end of story. Conservatives are well advised to get past their love affair for people of color and Jews and Moslems and solidify their integrity with Christians.

John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Hillary (among others) met with some Irish-American "advocacy" group to publicly demand forgiveness and an immediate path to citizenship for Irish-born illegal aliens. It was pure pandering designed to appeal to Irish-Americans...and turn us into good little Democrats. It had the opposite effect with me...I found it repulsive. Unfortunately, too many of my Bush-hating family friends found this to be a capital idea. When liberals like Jerry Rivers can't argue the facts of an issue, they reduce the discussion to racial and ethnic pandering...and it works.
Yup

That is exactly it.The fact that illegals violate the law,use American's SSNs,and keep down wages of Americans. You never hear them bring that up.
can we convince Rivera that we HATE him?

O'Reilly & Geraldo
December 11, 2007 - 11:04 ET by LilyPearlGeriatric-aldo makes me want to hurl. After he threatened to spit on Michelle Malkin, he should have been fired from Fox. However, O'Reilly, on his supposed "no spin zone" show let Geriatric-aldo come on and faux-apologize to Malkin. That exchange between O'Reilly and Geriatric-aldo was the biggest example of spin I have seen in a long time. I am happy Michelle quit the O'Reilly show over it and sent Bill the message that she is doing just fine without him. I exclusively watch Fox News over the other news channels, but when (can I say it again?) Geriatric-aldo comes on, I switch the channel or go do something else and forget to come back. As a result, Fox is losing some of my viewership.
Just An Observation...
December 11, 2007 - 14:32 ET by Wildcatter1980but Geraldo have not been on O'Reilly of late. In fact, it seems to coincide with Laura Ingraham's signing on as a regular contributor and substitute show host.

I'm Not Sure...
December 11, 2007 - 14:29 ET by Wildcatter1980if I can make this simple enough for Geraldo to understand.
The issue is the rule of law! Not hatred, not racism, not xenophobia, but immigrating or even just coming here for a job is to be done according to the laws on the books regarding immigration! It is about people entering and staying in the United States of America 100% legally. And, even IF you want to partially attribute the illegal immigration mess to the government, that STILL is not a reason to grant amnesty to those here illegally.
Any attempt to spin this any other way than I have just stated is disingenuous and deflects away from the real issues at hand.
Just my $0.02
I never knew Geraldo
December 12, 2007 - 02:37 ET by wiwfI never knew Geraldo represented all Hispanics! People he hates obviously means people all Hispanics must hate too! Nice job with the stereotyping there, Gerry.
