Chris Matthews Blames Iraq War for Tasered Student Incident

Upset that a University of Florida student was tasered by campus police at a John Kerry event, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, on Tuesday's, "Hardball" feared it was a result of the "fascistic notion" of American troops "forcing" democracy on Iraqis at "gunpoint", filtering back home.

Chris Matthews: "You know when we walk into those, every night on television you watch pictures of American soldiers risking their lives to break into homes in Baghdad, at gunpoint, telling people to go along with the government that we've set up over there. Democracy at gunpoint. I wonder if it's filtered back here at home. I wonder if it's drift back home? The idea that democracy is something you do at gunpoint. ‘Either you behave and do it this way and show up by putting your fingers in the ink and doing it this way or you're an insurgent, therefore, we can round you up and if you resist we can kill you.' That notion it's a bit fascist and it's certainly a fascistic notion of democracy we're forcing, forcing on people over there. They didn't invited us into Iraq and I wonder now whether we are picking up some of the bad habits of the war front?"

Here's the vid courtesy of Stop the ACLU:

A little earlier in the September 18 "Hardball" segment, that featured leftists Joe Conason of the New York Observer and Madea Benjamin of anti-war protest group Code Pink, Matthews was dismayed that Republican supporters of President Bush didn't engage in obnoxious, rude and disruptive behavior, as he compared them to "Stepford Wives."

Matthews: "Let me ask you, Joe, about you've been covering this campaign, I'm in the studio here. It's a great job but I don't get out of here much. When you get out there and cover these presidential stops? Is it, does it feel like, like Truman-ville or something? Like, I look at the faces of the people who are watching the President. They have this passivity of, I shouldn't be cruel, but are they, are they Stepford wives and golfing Republicans? Who are these people that just sort of sits there, 'Oh that's interesting the war is gonna end positively, everything is going well and our troops are doing the job' and everything is so calm and collected, I don't get who these people are."

I seem to see demonstrators

I seem to see demonstrators at Republican events being treated with kid-gloves.

Someone from JF Kerry's own side gets out of line and he gets tasered.

I guess Mathews is right, there is Fascism present - and it is from the left.

...does anyone know

...does anyone know where these non-gunpoint democracies are that he's talking about? I'd like to have a look myself...

He fought the law and the

He fought the law and the law won!

I would love to see the full unedited version of that video.

There is a reason the officers were standing close by.

Morons collide

While I agree the guy was a whacked out moonbat, I say that the incident was a collision of disagreeable sorts.

On one side, a whacked-out moonbat...on the other, three professional power-trippers (cops).

They will be slapped on the wrist, and will be permitted to go back to their normal routine of going on power-trippers and treating ALL around them with EXTREME CONTEMPT, all the while whining about why the public doesn't love them.

Unsane isn't exactly a friend of law enforcement.  Well, to a very fine point.  I have noticed that federal law enforcement personnel tend to be extremely professional, while the local cops are the worst of the lot.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

Agreed, Unsane. I'm

Agreed, Unsane. I'm surprised no one on this site has addressed the shameful behavior of that cop in Missouri last week. The way he changed his tune when he realized he was being taped was priceless. Hicks with anger management issues should not be patroling the streets with nightsticks and firearms.

Also, what exactly was the kid in Florida doing to deserve that treatment?  Besides moonbatism?

"If their sins were as scarlet, they are now white as snow" Isaiah 1:18

I respect your take on things but...

Unsane and JasonC, I respect your take on the way this was handeled but as I tell my teenage son, "If a cop says stop, you stop! I don't care if he's a big fat red neck. You stop and let things get sorted out later. All it would take is one wrong move by you and something bad could happen." In my opinion this guy deserved more than a Taser. The University cops did their job with an unruly kid who was resisting and looking for trouble.

Cops (power-trippers)

I would agree, if it weren't for the fact that THREE cops were on him.  The tasering was over-the-top at that point and was nothing more than the cops power-tripping.

I will not deny that there are quite a few professional local cops.  However, there are far too many power-trippers in the ranks who feel and act as if once they get the gun and the badge, they are 100% above the law and ALL else in the universe.  And they also are the FIRST to begin whining and crying if they come in for any bit of criticism, as if they should be 100% immunized from any.

Hence my sympathies for local and state level law enforcement authorities will always be severely limited.  Sure, I'll stop when the cops flips on his lights.  But really, is it too much to ask the guy to:

1) Tell me why I was stopped,

2) Write the f!*king ticket,

3) Move on,

instead of lying to me about why I was pulled over and nearly breaking my truck window(as happened to me in AK), sticking your head through my window and screaming at ME for hloding up traffic when I myself cannot move because I  am held up in traffic (San Antonio), or basically engaging in petty harassment (outlying areas of San Antonio)?

If there are any "professionals" I hold very little regard for, they are lawyers, teachers...and cops.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

I guess with Olbermann on

I guess with Olbermann on the disabled list Matthews has to single-handedly meet the MSNBC quota of "fascist" references broadcast each day. Hey, he's just trying to do his part.

Either that or he just has a uncontrollable need to say whatever pops in his head regardless of its merits or relevancy.

Okay, the correct answer is (b) but (a) isn't that hard to believe.

Whatever the case, his show is just unwatchable.

Did anyone see the David Shuster lead in?

In the 7pm est segment of Hardball, David Shuster filed a report that was an incredible, sustained cheap shot. This was a case of a far left protester ranting at John Kerry at a university. There were absolutely no elements of conservatives or George Bush anywhere near the story. It was completely liberal-on-liberal stupidity. It was Kerry. It was a far left anti-war protester.

And yet Shuster managed to blame Karl Rove.

No, I'm not kidding. Try to breathe normally.

Although it had absolutely nothing to do with this incident, Shuster blamed the cops' behavior at Kerry's speech on the White House manual on how to deal with protesters. He added that the office that issued the rules was once run by Karl Rove. Then, Shuster mockingly said that the rules were designed to prevent Bush from facing tough questions from ... and then Shuster showed clips from a campaign appearance where Bush fielded questions from children, who were asking harmless, innocent questions. The implication was that Bush was afraid of little children asking him questions. Now, remember, this was provoked by a liberal-on-liberal incident. It was a mean, vindictive, unreasonable, petty, and shameless cheap shot.

Matthews ate it up. His guests blamed Bush. Oh, and Fox News for bleeping Sally Fields. They rambled about how Fox was censoring free speech. The fact that they also bleeped Ray Romano for the same reason ... profanity ... and yet kept the non-profane political musings of David Chase ... utterly escaped their fact-base.

Who's "David Shuster"?

Oh, that's right...he's the guy who used the esteemed journalist Jason Leopold as a source last year when he orgasmically "reported" that the evil Karl Rove was about to be indicted.

Of course, 24 "business hours" later, Rove was still running his hurricane machine...

Schuster reported every

Schuster reported every week the arrest and perp walk of Rove and Cheney using his unnamed-high ranking-anonymous-administration officials....aka He made it up!!!

I'm a refugee from the Democratic Party.

Shuster's "Source"

It's pretty clear that Shuster's "source" on this one, besides Jason Leopold, was none other than one Joe Wilson.

Leopold promised that if he was burned by his "source", he would out said source. Guess what? He never did. Wilson it is.

For more Leopold inanity/insanity, go visit www.truthout.org

Oh, for crying out loud,

Oh, for crying out loud, what makes them think the local cops take orders from the White House???

Kerry could have stopped the whole thing; he could have told the cops leave him alone, let him speak. Or he could have, before the meeting, told the locals that if someone spoke out of turn, they should leave him/her alone, and he would handle it. They probably would have just stood by, unless the guy tried to rush the stage or something.

The level of BDS at PMSNBC

The level of BDS at PMSNBC is staggering -- but then again, are we surprised? The left only knows simplistic conclusions and observations, seasoned with a large dose of naivete.

Matthews has lost it as of late.....

Hardball has devolved into nothing more than left-wing rants or issue "debates" which are framed from the left-wing position. Claiming people who support Republicans are "passive", "golfers", or "stepford wives"? What a snide, elitist comment.

BTW - David Shuster is the biggest idiot around.  What a terrible reporter.

Not Just Kool-Aid

Chrissy's not just drinking the Kool-Aid, he's adding neutral grain spirits to it before going on-air, it seems.

Probably gin and raisins.

"Democracy at

"Democracy at gunpoint"

You bastard Chrissy, what do you expect them to do when trying to root out these sneaky cowardly, throatcutters hell bent on killing them, shout "AVON CALLING?" You are dumber than you look, all though at times you look more like a child predator.

And if by chance they do get injured or god forbid, killed, you guys gloat. I'm so disgusted with these people.

I know the answer, sent my Senator, your hero, "Liveshot" Kerry over there.  If he's not shooting people in the back, he's getting shrapnel in the ass from a hand granade he tossed in a rice paddy.

Conspiracy?

Someone should look into the politics of the local police chief. I don't think that it would be too far out of line to suggest that Kerry, along with willing participants from local law enforcement, "set-up" the entire sequence to foster anti-authority feelings among students nationwide (Of course, he would be aware that coverage would be nationwide). The reason I say this is because where there is smoke there is usually fire. I've watched the footage of the incident and noticed that during the moments that the dude was allegedly tased, at least one officer has full skin to skin contact with him. (Of course, skin to skin contact with a tased individual would result in both individuals being tased). I didn't see any adverse reaction from the skin to skin officer during the tasing.

Very perceptive Bril:

That would not surprise me at all, a Kerry set up. Liveshot is all about the glory and drama for the camera, hence the nickname we have for him up here, "liveshot".

Kerry set up...

A great point even though it negates my thought.

If there was anyone in that room with the ability bring a measure of control to the situation it was "Commander Kerry". He didn't though, just mumbled and blathered.

Very Presidential, too bad for America he lost in '04. </sarc>

Enjoy I did Con in Mass

What a piece of work that guy is. About the phoneiest sob walking the face of the earth.

BTW...the farm where he grew up looks like it could use some migrant labor. Hate to see the homestead go to H-in-H. :-)

I'm sure he can cull some

I'm sure he can cull some help from his "supporters" in the migrant community.

The "farm house" humble John grew up in is not the "little house on the prairy" he would have you believe it was!

Chris Matthews...

1) can't keep his saliva in his mouth

2) interupts and talks over his guests non-stop -- be they left leaning or ri.... wait, he only has libweenies on

3) loves the sound of his own voice and stream-of-consious rambling, pointless thoughts

4) is a complete jack*ss

Dennis Miller had a great

Dennis Miller had a great line: Kerry would have stopped the police from tasering the student but he was waiting for approval from the UN before doing anything.

tazer guy

my local news put into this story that this kid has a history of pulling pranks on people and video taping it to get revenge. After the prank the person is angry and he gets them in trouble for their anger afterwards. It's a classic set-up. I saw my local news tell me this, then I waited for anything like this tid-bit from NBC....nope.

Besides, Ann Coulter gets freaks like this at every speech and it never makes the news.

Taser Boy

Oh, the embarassment to have this idiot act out at my beloved University of Florida.

Taser Boy comes from an ritzy little suburb here in lovely liberal Broward County....Weston.  A chic planned community for all of the nouveaux riche...a la Dan Marino.  A pampered child with a record of being an idiot.

They should have tasered his dum a** in elementary school.

I sympathize.

We have a couple of posters here from Mass....I don't know what keeps you all there...it sounds like a horror show to me....plus I hate the cold.

Big Dig, Kennedys, F'ing Kerry, taxes...although I understand the lobsters are pretty tasty there.

Cold Atlantic water makes for great Lobsters, yes. One thing my dad missed when he moved to Florida.

Despite the swarm of lib-tards like locusts from a Biblical plague, the change of seasons is nice.

By the way, the video link to Tazer boy was priceless! "Don't tazer me bro! LMAO.

CIM....lobsters

How does that old Jimmy Buffet song go?

She can eat her own weight up in crabmeat?  Or any other seafood, for that matter.

LOL...that would be me.

I suppose we all have our crosses to bear (and our homes to enjoy for their particular, um, peculiarities...).  To me, as a Floridian, I wear the change of seasons....right now, we're almost done with the HURRICANE season....soon the orchids will start to bloom, then it will be time to open the windows....then time to put the top down on chilly mornings and bundle up and put on gloves....drive with hands straight up in the air!

I suppose it's what one's used to....I've never seen a "real fall" with leaves changing....so I'm not nostalgic for it.  But when the sailfish start running...well...that's how I know fall is here.

I thought Chris was suppose to be non-biased according to Lesley Stahl. "These People"? Who are you calling "These People", Chris?

Well Chris, you know why you don't "get" Republicans? It's because they don't spray spittle while spouting leftist talking points.

No Chris...

Tha taser incident comes not from Iraq or even from a remotely obtuse effect from the echo of iraq. It comes from the liberal idea that no one should be allowed to critisize another liberal. The UF police were just protecting their liberal hero from unwaranted stress from having to answer an actual question. It comes from the liberal wont to silence points of view that they find either antagonistic or just simply inconvenient at the tme.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Fred08.com

Were they UF cops or G'ville cops?

It's my understanding that the student government "officials" gave the axe sign....of course, at this point in time, who knows?

I am so upset that this happened at the University of Florida.  What a total embarassment.

And what is totally embarassing is that F'ing was speaking there at all...I'm going to have to find out why, and how much he was paid (of course he was paid), and finally, who paid him.

Because the next time the alumni association calls me...I need to have a few succinct questions to ask them.  If my "donation" to UF was used for something like this.....well, I suppose I shall have to directly donate to my dear friends on the UF Water Ski Team (oh yeah....I did that once upon a time!).

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Blonde, yeah I did the same

Blonde, yeah I did the same thing after Gingrich was paid by the (now bankrupt and defunct because they were so deep in debt to the SGA) Republican club at my Alma Mater. Oh wait, I didn't do that, because if people want to go hear a political point of view other than my own on a public state-subsidized campus, that's their business.

How could anyone fall for

How could anyone fall for the insane misinformation of Maher and Mathews. The more I read on this great site about the treachery of these two and the rest of their ilk the more outraged I become.

Hey RB

This is the first time I've seen you post here.

Don't get outraged....get even.

a) Don't watch them...read about it here.

b) Tell everyone you know about the bias.

c) Pass out the NB site address to all of your conservative pals.

d) Visit often here....post, and feel better.

We all must stick together.

Hey Blonde, I've been

Hey Blonde, I've been reading NB for over a year now and you all pretty much cover anything I could add.

I never watch any of them and my movie list gets shorter all the time. Scratch another actress from the, "will give my money to list".

I do really enjoy the site and read all the posts every night. Keep up the good work News Busters.

Don't be shy, RB

The best part about NB is interacting.

The comments are great...insightful....but if you don't hop in, you'll never know how wonderful the water is!

As far as the "movie list"....I think I'm back to the old classics....as the rest of the hollywoodland fools have me totally annoyed.

Check out "Shawn's Movie Thread" (I think that's the title) on the Forums....a great discussion about the old classics...and new ones as well.

That's one of the really fun things about this site...it runs the gamut from media bias, to politics, to favorite stuff...some of which is really, really good stuff!

Bee cool, RB....and don't be a stranger.

}}---> Kerry's Rent-a-cop Taser Show

I was under the impression this guy was tasered by rent-a-cops at a John Kerry Donkey show.

So, the Libs are too quick to make use of their "non lethal" force toys to demonstrate how benign they are.

What does this have to do with Conservatism?

Even a Stepford Wife can

Even a Stepford Wife can recognize symptoms of possible nervous collapse… take a vacation, Chris.

The part I found funny was

The part I found funny was that if you watch it from the second video which had a vantage point close to the podium you see a boatload of empty seats. The place was about a third full. This guy was the savior of the left who "served in Vietnam" and he can't get an audience on a college campus. How pathetic can one be?

Try this one, Chris

Matthews could have Elizabeth Hasslebeck come on Hardball, and then he could get Barry Mannilo's manager to call in to the show to berate her for attacking Barry's boyfriend, Rosie O'Donnell. Then, the cool part, Chris can book himself onto every morning show for the next week talking about how he ambushed a conservative. It's brilliant.

As it turns out it was all

As it turns out it was all a set-up by that knucklehead in Florida, that being said. Chrissy has got his panties in a wad again.  How come the dozen or so people that watch him and Olby get so much press? He is going to explode in a crying fit one night, then we can all watch it on You Tube.

Chris, your fly's down ...

Chris, your fly's down ... I'm really tired of telling you, dude.

Whoops....it was a "Practical Joke"...

Sorry, Chris.....NEVERMIND...

The MSM jumped on this like Bill C. on a hooker...

They had their way with the story....before the story was validated....they rushed to judgment...

You would think that the DUKE lacrosse case would have taught them something....now we are seeing a long series of "Nevermind" reporting.....

What good is a Free Press, if it is a False Press ?   David Foote  GoE

Incoherent or stupid?

The only thing left to wonder about Chris Mathews is whether his frequent, jaw-dropping, forays into lunatic utterances are the result of ignorance or stupidity?

It's a little of both.  Perhaps his drinking days have caught up with him, taking it's toll on brain cells.

These lapses of his are all to frequent, and are so off the wall that they're almost impossible to rebut without offering the caveate that Mathews must be off his rocker.
