The ever present boogeyman that, in the media's eyes, is global warming, reared its ugly head again today. Reporting from England on the rising flood waters there, NBC's Keith Miller, on this morning's 'Today' show, offered the following observation:
Keith Miller: "The damage from the flood waters is already estimated to be more than $100 million. Roads are out, the electricity supply has failed and the water supply is now contaminated. The people of Britain are all asking the same question today, could this be global warming?"

July 23, 2007 - 08:52 ET by TEYou have to love the "science" of the "global warming" hoax/religious cult: if there is a drought it is "caused" by "global warming" and if there is flooding then the flooding too is "caused" by "global warming". Evidently, prior to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, the internal combustion engine, SUVs, Fox News, Halliburton and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, there were no droughts or flooding on earth. Interesting.

You mean it's AGW's fault
July 23, 2007 - 08:56 ET by dscottYou mean it's AGW's fault just like during 2004/5 with all the huricanes? So why haven't we had all those huricanes since then? Maybe CO2 has gone down since then? NOT, it's gone up. So once again, it's not been hotter since 1998 but the temp trend is down ever since, but yet CO2 has increased. BTW- if the Gulf stream is slowing down, thus delivering less warm water to the Britian then where did all that moisture come from??? Maybe less solar wind directing cosmic rays away from the planet, causing more cloud formation?????

Not to worry, just like
July 23, 2007 - 10:41 ET by dscottNot to worry, just like with huricanes, the AGW folks are also blaming the slow down of the Gulf Stream on global warming. http://www.guardian.co.uk/flash/0,5860,1656541,00.html It never ceases to amaze me that when someone doesn't understand the particular details of how something operates, they find a convenient boogey man to blame for the entire workings. Any research at all on the internet, you will find the Gulf Stream is driven by the winds from the equator going north (pressure differential between North Pole and Equator), thus any increase in heat causes more not less winds. In a warming world, heat is not distributed evenly nor does heat rise evenly. I find it interesting as well they keep focusing on the thermahaline and salinity to claim as though "ALL" the water sinks in the North Atlantic to go back to the equator when in fact, the Gulf Stream curves south from England down the coast of Spain back to the equator. The current splits and flows both on the surface and at the bottom back to the equator. This finese on the facts is how they are trying to convince people that Global Warming causes Global Cooling or temperature extremes to have it both ways.

July 23, 2007 - 09:23 ET by mvfreemanWhile I believe the jury is still out on the nature of global warming this is yet again speculation masquerading as reporting. The news is full of it these days. July 23, 2007 - 09:34 ET by bassndudeThe people are not asking, its only keith miller asking the question. He may be the only one in England that thinks rain is caused by global warming. Everyone else knows it is just clouds falling...

Why doesn't Miller know for certain?
July 23, 2007 - 15:46 ET by GalvanicAnd Miller should be answering his own rhetorical question, or at least going to an AGW expert like Prince Albert Gore. Afterall, Gore has repeated many times that "The science on GW is in" and "There is consensus in the scientific community" and "There's no time for further debate -- only action." Surely Gore must be able to explain how AGW is creating the rains that are flooding the UK (and mainland Western Europe as well), so that Miller can explaikn it to us.
So, don't ask us, Miller. We don't know. Ask Gore.

July 23, 2007 - 10:10 ET by KevroyGlobal Warming is a 'can't lose' scenario for the Left and they know it. Expect the phrase 'climate change' to completely replace 'global warming'in the very near future since it gives them even more outs.
The Alarmists can't lose with this scam. If temps cool down over the next decade due to the natural climate cycles of the planet, they will say, "See, we are making a difference" and pound away for even more asinine restrictions and regulations.
Exactly..
July 23, 2007 - 10:54 ET by NforceNot long ago the Global Walarmist Cult was saying that the lack of hurricanes last year was due to global warming. It was something to the effect that cooler than normal upper air flows from easterly trade winds were shearing off low pressure development of tropical waves. This cooler air was due to global warming. We are now well into the hurricane season this year and yet there has been little to no tropical activity in either the Eastern or Western hemisphere. How convenient! Hell it's 78 degrees at noon in Charlotte NC in the middle of July. That's about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year. Global Warming! Idiots.

The people of Britain
July 23, 2007 - 12:34 ET by annoyedmanI would say it is more the case of global wetting. Here in north Texas, we know all about it lately. Funny thing is, at this time of year here, the temperatures are normally averaging over 100º every day. This year, temps are running in the high 80s to low 90s, and everything is flooded out. NOBODY within reach of their right mind here is attributing the rain and the cooler temperatures to global warming.
My son and I went to the shooting range on Saturday, and we had to get the hell out as a flash flood was coming through. I saw the water rise a foot in the space of a minute.

July 23, 2007 - 17:55 ET by annoyedmanWe live in Grapevine, about 22 miles NW of Dallas. We had 32 inches of rain in June alone this year. The DFW area averages about 35 inches PER YEAR. We are well on track to a record setting year. The Trinity River has been over its banks for about 2 months now. All the regional lakes are full to capacity. It's a wet one alright.

Interesting times article
July 24, 2007 - 09:53 ET by dscottInteresting times article statements:
...Farther back still were the sodden summers of 1845 to 1850, when jungle-like humidity and relentless rains triggered the potato blight outbreak that led to the great Irish potato famine, in which a million people died and another million emigrated from Ireland. ...
...The prize for the most diabolical summer of rain and cold should be awarded to that of 1816. Not for nothing was it called “the year without summer” – this time of great storms, massive rains and appalling cold led to the crops rotting, the price of bread soaring and food riots breaking out. Some 200,000 people died of famine across Europe, which was then followed by a typhus epidemic.
