Gingrich: Defund Planned Parenthood, Give the Money to Adoption Aid

By Fred Lucas | January 18, 2012 | 07:29

A  A

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that if elected president, he would defund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, and steer those federal funds toward adoptive services.

“I would like to defund Planned Parenthood,” Gingrich said at a presidential forum on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., sponsored by the Faith and Freedom Coalition. “I want to take all of that money and put it directly into adoption services to give young women the choice of life, not the culture of death.”

Gingrich faulted both President Barack Obama and Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney for their records on abortion. According to the latest data, Planned Parenthood performed 332,278 abortions in the United States in fiscal year 2009. That year, the organization also received $363.2 million in government grants and contracts, the latest figures show.

Obama so pro-abortion

Submitted by Tim Graham on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 7:30am.

“And, of course, Obama is even worse,” said Gingrich. “Obama voted in Illinois that a doctor could kill a baby if it was born alive during the abortion, and it was okay,” Gingrich said. “I was always amazed that no one made a big point of this in the 2008 campaign. Obama is far and away the most radical pro-abortion president in American history. We ought to take him head on.”

And Newt is right too.

The Born Alive Infant Protection Act, passed the US Senate unanimously upon President Bush's entrance into the White House.  Senators from both sides of the aisle thought the slaughtering living babies was so repugnant that there was very little discussion of passing the measure.

Illinois Legislator Obama, however, still believed a mother's decree of execution against her baby extends beyond birth.

Absolutely, Newt should force this issue, exposing Liberals for the bloodthirsty priests of Molech they are.

On second thought, Even Teddy Kennedy apparently thought killing babies after their birth was something he should go on record against.

Numbers please

Submitted by DontFeedTheTrolls on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 8:44am.

I would like to see a comparison of the number of foreign born babies adopted and that number of 332,278 abortions performed by PP. I would bet a lot of those unborn American babies could have found loving homes right here.
Also, I heard from a couple I know that it is much harder to adopt within the country (thank you lawmakers) than it is to adopt from overseas.

The number of foreign adoptions in 2009. Adoptions don't seem to be in very high demand as an alternative to the 332,278 abortions provided by Planned each year. It would be a shame for Planned to lose funding to provide for the millions who use the services for contraception, cancer screenings, and STDs. Defunding won't stop abortions any more than closing McDonald's would stop people from eating fast food burgers.

But defunding would stop my forced investment into your abortion mill.

Yes, I know you "mean well" in your attempts to cull the black population, but a whole bunch of us don't want to be a part of your racism.

I thought your name was Math U. And to correct both of you (or the same person I imagine) it's more like Fran Kwa. Kwa Kwa Kwa Kwa...

Does the black population have something to do with abortion? Are they statistically more at risk for Dontwantababy syndrome? It's just a matter of opinion. And you know what an opinion is without PI, right?

If you investigated the roots of your spoonfed conclusions, you might realize Planned Parenthood, from its inception to the present day, was founded for, and has been highly successful in its efforts to control the black population.

In other words, this should not be a newsflash to you, and I suspect it really isn't.  Your opinion that those who have a better understanding of the worth of their seed, notwithstanding.

No, not a matter of opinion, it's a fact

Here's a nice little microcosm of abortion disproportionately affecting the AA community....and a source with which no liberal should protest, the NYT.

If you click the "statistics" link in the 7th para, and go to page 88, you'll find the raw data.

Pesky facts.

False Comparison

Submitted by Free Stinker on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 10:42am.

You only mentioned foreign adoptions. Funny how you didn't mention domestic adoptions. Adoptees are 2.5% of all children in the USA so "demand" seems to be higer than you imply.

There's not really anything funny about it

Submitted by John Francroix Jr on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 11:04am.

Nor false in comparison. Dontfeedthetrolls asked specifically for the number of foreign adoptions against the number of Planned Parenthood's abortion services, which is what I provided.

In 2009 114,562 kids waited to be adopted while 135,000 were adopted.

So since all of them were not adopted, they should have been aborted?

"It would be a shame for Planned to lose funding to provide for the millions who use the services for contraception, cancer screenings, and STDs. Defunding won't stop abortions any more than closing McDonald's would stop people from eating fast food burgers."

The "shame" is in people not taking responsibility for their actions and the "shame" is on people like you wanting to take honest peoples money to enable the "shame". The truly embarrassing "shame" is people like you equating the stopping of the killing of a human being as no different from stopping eating a fast food burger at McDonalds.

In spite of your embarrassing callous "shame" francrow, Planned Parenthood will be de-funded and Roe v Wade will be overturned and you can drown your objections in all the Big Macs you can gobble down as long as you use your money to buy them with.

Again...this shows that Newt is a progressive republican

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 01/18/2012 - 9:07am.

The Constitution gives the federal government no more authority to get involved in adoptions than it has to get involved in abortions. Newt just wants to spend the $3.5 trillion (and climbing) "budget" on stuff he wants. That is called being progressive, not conservative.

Anyone who want's to "reduce" the budget, but then talks about 10 year periods is a progressive and not a true conservative. If this country is going to survive for another decade, let alone another generation, it must vastly reduce it's expenditures NOW. It must get back to treating the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and the guiding authority on what the government is allowed to get involved in regardless of the intentions.

Simply eliminating the cabinet departments and agencies that are not authorized by the Constitution would save around $1 trillion out of the expenditures PER YEAR. Not over 10 years.

Actually Newt has talked about shutting down govt agencies and then selling the buildings so the govt doesn't re-occupy them with new bureaucracy.

Adoption Machine

Submitted by SKim on Mon, 02/06/2012 - 3:50pm.

This is nothing more than desperate pandering to the ignorant masses. Anyone who knows anything about civil rights and/or the human body/biology knows that abortion is not only a matter of a woman's basic rights to choose, but not in any way murder. People who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy (especially if they are unmarried, young or poor) are deemed somehow as less than and the pressure, the shame, the lack of support is entirely wrong and only adds to societal problems. Beat someone down low enough and she just might hand over her child for adoption. Either way, that person is more likely to not do well in life, especially without the help they need to get on their feet, heal themselves and learn healthy parenting skills. If this country focused more on respecting and supporting its citizens many of these issues would solve themselves. No one is spending their money to pay for someone else's abortion any more than any of you are paying for the food stamps that feed a starving family. These people, their families, their great grandparents, etc as well as their children, grandchildren, etc are the ones paying for this. We all pay taxes (the poor pay a lot more!) for the greater good of society, but that seems to have gotten lost somewhere. It is not mathematically accurate that YOUR taxes are paying for some strangers food stamps or abortion. That said, PP covers so many other social issues; healthcare, birth control, disease screenings...it is a necessary organization. God forbid any of you ever find yourselves in need of any kind of public support or government resources. What then? Will you rant on how others are paying for you to be a “loser”, a "deadbeat" or a “drain on society”.

Have any of you ever been raped? Starved? Beaten? Ostracized? Alienated? Homeless? Have any of you ever had sex? Had sex out of wedlock? Had birth control fail? Had unprotected sex and “got lucky”? How dare anyone judge another person and based on what exactly? If more time and tax dollars were spent on education, healthcare, job training, family preservation, social services, welfare reform (in a way that it actually HELPS people get on their feet to be productive and happy/healthy citizens), etc we'd have a lot less health issues, crime, poverty, mental health problems, homelessness and I dare say even abortions OR adoptions because more people could raise their children and do it in a healthy and independent way. No one wants to be on welfare! No one wants to have an abortion! And no one WANTS to hand over their infant for adoption. Those children in foster care are the ones that need to be adopted. No one owes an infertile couple their flesh & blood just because they are poor, scared, hurt, young or uneducated.

There is a lot of corruption, wholly unethical,& I dare say, illegal activity in the adoption industry. Couples desperate to adopt an infant are $ signs for the adoption industry. Those same couples are not counseled in dealing with their infertility (etc) but encouraged to live an unhealthy (at best) lie that this child is born to them. Well, you can't very well do that without changing names, amending birth certificates & keeping the natural family out of the picture. Many would be adopters would go to another agency or refuse to pay so much for a child if efforts weren't made to block out the child's natural history/family. “Confidentiality” also protects the big business of what amounts to legalized baby selling (& legal kidnapping in most cases). The less often natural families are reunited with the adopted person the less chance the truth is discovered & the adoption industry exposed for what it is=the money keeps rolling in.
I also want to add:
In the event that an adoption absolutely HAS to take place I do not think the child's name should be changed, nor should the child's birth certificate be altered & most certainly no files should be sealed from the child once he/she is an adult. Adoption should be outlawed completely & a kind of guardianship or permanent custody used in the cases that are absolutely 100% unavoidable.
And what genius thinks that a woman would carry a baby to term, bond with that baby, give birth to the baby just to hand the baby over to strangers? Abortion & adoption have zip to do with each other. I didn't abort my daughter because I wanted her! I was then forced & manipulated into surrendering her so the adoptive parents could live their sick fantasy & the adoption agency could line their pockets. I didn't say early in my pregnancy, "Oh, I think I’ll not have an abortion. I'd much rather go through the pregnancy, fall in love with my baby, bond with my baby so that I can then hand her over to someone else & I'll go on with my life of kool aid grins & rainbow farting unicorns.” If a woman wants to have an abortion she will and she should have that healthy legal choice.
1) no one wants to have a child just to hand it over to someone else. it is devastating & a lifelong trauma that destroys people for generations to come.
2) another issue with all this baby selling secrecy is the need to know if you are about to marry & procreate with your cousin or even sibling! can we please return to some level of common sense & human decency?
