In a surprising turn for the network, ABC’s “Nightline” included a strong pro-abstinence message on April 6 when it featured comedian and radio host Steve Harvey.
Harvey is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” which is all about love and relationships and includes advice on waiting to “give up the cookie.”
Sharyn Alfonsi’s insightful interview with Harvey who has found success with his down-to-earth advice found in his book. “A guy that’s really serious about you, he’s gotta be talking to you,” Harvey told Alfonsi. “He’s gotta wanna have one-on-one, in your face interaction. That’s how we are! The guy that’s just texting you, that’s no effort. He doesn’t have to get in the car, he doesn’t have to remember your number, he can just text you. And you sit there and you see all these wonderful things he's texting you. Well, guess what, he could be ccing that same text to six other women. And you think you're special? … Please.”
But it is Harvey’s stance on sex in a dating relationship that is not typically represented on ABC. “And to that end, Harvey says no woman should quote give up the cookie for 90 days,” Alfonsi said. Harvey likened sex to a benefit package.
“I worked at Ford motor company. They have a probation period. You have to be on the job 90 days in order for Ford motor company to release their benefit package to you. Why do women, who possess the greatest benefit of them all, why you passing out your benefits to a guy who has not been on the job for 90 days and has not proven to you that he's worthy of a benefit package?”
This uninterrupted pro-abstinence stance is quite a turn of events for ABC. The network has taken cheap shots at abstinence education in the past, blaming it for an increase in teen pregnancies among other things. Other media networks have a similar history of giving abstinence a bad reputation saying it doesn’t work.
Harvey also gave some honest advice to boost women’s self esteem and again, ABC let Harvey have the floor. “Skinny or thick?” Alfonsi probed. “Doesn't matter,” Harvey replied. “I have seen both of them look absolutely amazing … Women are the reason we get up every day. I'm talking about real men … These are guys I'm hanging with. I wake up for a woman every day of my life to make it happen for her.”
Even Alfonsi could see Harvey’s love for women as she stated, “But one might have never guessed the comedian would be the voice to convince women to love and respect themselves.”

April 10, 2009 - 13:50 ET by CamelopardalisI try not to be judgemental, but sometimes I can't help it. Why do you have to tell women that they should wait 90 days before having sex? Isn't that just common sense? There are two other 'dating experts' Patti Stanger (Millionaire matchmaker) and Helen Fisher (author of Why Him, Why Her: Finding Real Love by Understanding Your Personality Type) who said the exact same thing: wait 90 days before having sex. We women (and men) really need to have more respect for ourselves; if that were the case, people like Steve Harvey wouldn't be telling us something we should already know.

Now, really...
April 11, 2009 - 05:40 ET by Kelly72The article dealt with an important issue on an objective (nonpersonal) basis (that is, not on a personal basis about what this specific person does or that specific person does). It's not appropriate to demand personal information.
I know a lot of people who live up to the ideals expressed here (and more). It would never occur to me to demand personal information, and one of the reasons for that is because I don't find it hard to believe that anyone lives up to what is expressed here. I'm quite sorry to think that anyone does find it hard to believe.
Now, personally, I find nothing impressive about "ninety days", but in general the article addressed an important issue.
Deal with the issue. Or not. But going for the personal attack? That does not accomplish anything genuine.

April 10, 2009 - 07:14 ET by TheConservativeChemistHey ragadipshit, it *is* a nosy question, and for the record I'd wager most of the conservatives on here *do* practice what they preach. I 100% remained a virgin (as did my wife) until we married and we've been married 7 years now.
And lefty idiots like you always go for the "gotcha" of a hypocrisy charge against someone who is actually normal human over the actual issue...you're not interested in discussing this issue, just trying to trip up someone...I'm sure the irony is lost on you, though, it takes brains to reason that one out...
Find me one person outside of Jesus Christ who has stuck 100% to everything they've ever believed in....it's called human nature...we never claim to be perfect but it's better to stand for something than to fall for anything the way you lefties do...

As long as we are on the subject of sex , the Nevada State
April 10, 2009 - 22:42 ET by Rush FanSenate committee recently rejected a proposal to levy a $5 tax on sex acts in Nevada.
The New York Times reports: "Committee Chairman Bob Coffin, the Las Vegas Democrat who sponsored the bill, says the state is desperate for revenue and has not collected taxes from prostitution since it was legalized in some rural counties more than 30 years ago."
It wouldn't surprise me if the Obama administration, in an effort to pay for all their socialist programs, will eventually attempt to levy a tax on ALL sex acts in the United States. My suggestion: better do it while it's free!

“Understand something about liberalism. They never stop until they get what they want, and when they get what they want, it's never enough. That's why it's a constant thing to have to oppose them. You can't join forces with them, you can't moderate them, you can't slow them down by joining them, you can't make them like you and have them change their agenda. They have to be stopped.” ~ Rush Limbaugh
