MSNBC: AIG Saga Could Get Out of Control Like Schiavo Story

Afraid that the AIG executive bonus bailout just may be the demise of the Democratic Party, MSNBC’s Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd trivialized the death of Terry Schiavo by suggesting the fight over Schiavo’s life was the demise of the Republican party.

Host Andrea Mitchell, Gene Robinson, and Chuck Todd were discussing Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s survival of the AIG scandal on Mitchell’s March 20 show MSNBC Live when Todd inserted this bit of political wisdom:

“An… Andrea? Really fast? You never know, you never know, when you know, this could turn into a Schiavo moment. And remember how the Terry Schiavo thing ended up being the beginning of the end for the Republican Party and their control. You just never know when one of these stories just catches wildfire in the popul…, in sort of the populist front. Sometimes you can’t stop it no matter which party you are.”

Conventional wisdom may contend that the Republican Party became too conservative for its own good, and that the fight over Schiavo’s life was the quintessential example to prove that point. However, even if the fight over Schiavo’s life was indeed the point at which people turned from the party that had become too conservative, at least the party went down fighting for something it believed in: the value of human life.

The death of 41 year-old Terry Schiavo was a controversy that gripped the nation for weeks because the battle between her family members to end her life peacefully, or keep her on life support was a difficult one to watch.  For Todd to equate the continuing saga over bank bailouts with the life and painful death of a woman is certainly in poor taste.

Where does NBC get these

Where does NBC get these idiots?

They're panicked!

They know this isn't good. Mayday! Mayday!

2010: A GOP Hill

Conventional wisdom

So now it's taken for granted that conservativism killed the Republican Party? Well, now there's a liberal self-serving theory, isn't it?

By the way, see what Todd's warning really is -- whatever you do, don't allow the story to get "out of hand."

Wow! Disgusting reporters...

How did he come up with comparison? This doesn’t even make any sense. So, inaptness is theie downfall. Works for me? I have known this for years

Disgusting reporters?

They 'report' their aganda and one-sided liberal bullsh*t.

Thank goodness for the internet.

 “An… Andrea? Really

 “An… Andrea? Really fast?"

Anything that stupid should be said "really fast" and at the end of a segment. Really, is the best that NBC can do for a chief correspondent? Is this guy on crack?

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

I was thinking the same thing

how about just say "Wait a sec here! I am making this up as I go along..."

just a small glimpse into the one of the many problems of "24 Hour News" stations.

You make a valid point, but it's totally hypothetical all the same, for the Terri Schindler-Schiavo debacle was hardly the "point at which people turned from the GOP."  Where this numbskull dredged this one up as a "turning point" is beyond me.  Let us all recollect that among the execution protesters was the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Someone at MSNBC needs to shut the Chuck up.

And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall.   -- Edgar Allan Poe

  If this brain dead

If this brain dead Congress and Whitehouse continue on as they have the country will be pulling the plug on them.

UpChuck Todd has a point, but not for the reason he thinks

Terri Schiavo had nothing to do with the Republican Party's current fix. The republicans playing democrat is why they are in the crapper with conservatives.

If Chucky is worried about his prescious dems now, wait until it gets around that Freddie Mac has the exact same retention bonus plan as AIG.

And Freddie Mac's money comes from the exact same place AIG's bailout money came from:

Us taxpayers.

This coup has gone on long enough. The time to put it down is NOW.

Dave... Exactly...Raines

Dave...

Exactly...Raines got 109 MILLION....Gorelick 10 MIllion...on and on it goes.

Talk about intentional hypocrisy, and staying mum about this all.

Yet folks like Barney are they top of the news on all the talking head shows...disgusting.

What?

Terri Schiavo had nothing to do with the Republican Party's current
fix. The republicans playing democrat is why they are in the crapper
with conservatives.

I watched the Terri Schiavo story play out and I don't remember it having anything to do with Republicans. You are right-on when you say that it was Republicans playing Democrats that caused them to fail.

MSNBC's Chuck Todd owes the

MSNBC's Chuck Todd owes the family of Terry Schiavo an on-air apology!  Todd should also apologize to his viewers; there are many tragic cases of people on life support, the recent was actress Natasha Richardson - who passed away this week.

What the msm did with the

What the msm did with the Schiavo story was far beyond a disgrace...I thanked God for the conservatives that came out swinging starting with the conservative majority leader who was ridiculed along with the rest of the members who spoke out loudly against this barbaric bull that a lot of this sick country got a kick out of...

...all the while in the end the msm had a daily, hourly, minute to the second time clock of when she was finally going to die...'expire' to that lovely peaceful place she was in as the Dem wannabe experts told us daily...she is at peace...(as if they know...I always said let these know it alls be without water and food for as long as it takes for you to die, but make sure and raise your fingers to let us know when you hit that happy place before we can't communicate with anymore so we can make sure and say you proved your point)

For heavens sake...her parents and siblings wanted to care for her at home, with their own $$$....who was anybody to take her life the way they did...that filthy so-called loving husband of hers is a real winner and he is going to have to answer to his maker.

Good evening BT

Her despicable husband was already her hasbeen.

We couldn't expect her settlement to actually be used by him to care for her. He needed it for his new love.

Starving to death is only painful for the person dying. The hospital personel didn't suffer at all so it was OK.

Involuntary suicide is common practice in the Netherlands and the libs want to bring it here. Think of the cost savings.
