Hoyer on Morning Joe Says GOP 'Want to Shoot Every Bullet they Have at the President'

By Eric Ames | July 27, 2011 | 16:39

A  A

National Review's Jim Geraghty notes today that House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer hasn't gotten the memo on the new tone in Washington. “I think we’re playing Russian roulette with the nation’s credit-worthiness, and unfortunately, all the chambers seem to be loaded on the House side. They want to shoot every bullet they have at the President” said Hoyer on Wednesday's "Morning Joe."

Not one member of the panel appeared to notice Hoyer's choice of words. The same morning program on which Newsweek's Tina Brown suggested that House Republicans were suicide bombers failed to point out the insinuations of violence being made by the second-ranking Democrat in the House. It is also noteworthy that the media made sure to call attention to Sarah Palin's use of relatively innocuous target symbols during the 2010 campaign, but did not take this opportunity to highlight a similar use of language.

So much for MSNBC's hand-wringing about the need for a "new tone" in Washington.

They don;t have to think

Submitted by Galvanic on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 5:10pm.

The MSM will clean up their mess for them, usually be merely ignoring it.

I heard him say this on Morning Joe today and I waited in vain for someone to correct him.

I wonder if he was one of the Dems who, in the aftermath of the Tuscon shooting, scolded the Right for using hyperbolic speech about guns and violence that inspires killers. Does NB have anything on file?

NO! They don't....

Submitted by OldJarhead77 on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 1:44pm.

And remember all that new tone talk.... OBVIOUSLY they meant that WE (Conservatives) had to have a new tone and that THEY (The LIBERALS) could still speak anyway they want to. Why?... Because they are nothing more than HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is wrong with these people?

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 4:46pm.

Ok, so they are lib dems, that pretty much answers the question right there.  But seriously, trying to compare the Republicans to terrorists and etc, that's the kind of nonsense that get people to do incidents like Loughner and the Norwegian Nutcase.  They are fomenting violence and need to be at the very least censured for that. (Not the same as censored like Krugman wants)

Are they trying to recreate Germany 1939 here by demonizing a group of people?

Knew that, but.....

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 6:53pm.

I knew that about our dictator in chief, but didn't really think that them dems would actually vocally make the case for it like Hoyer did as well as calling the GOP terrorists and other nonsense, upping the ante this quickly.  Something must be coming down the pike.

-Jon

edit: Now we're seeing Debbie Downer(head of DNC for those of you in Rio Linda) saying that the GOP is trying to impose a dictatorship.....self-project much??  It's bubbling over, I wouldn't be surprised if we do see some actual physical actions taken but the nutcases out there.

and not only do the "elected" officals do this but also the left "educated" commentators. Glad to see one or two people out there are finally standing up to these hacks(Matthews, Mahr, Maddow) and going after them to shut them up in a court of law

Wonder how long it will be till the rest of them (Matthews, Lauer, Mahr) are gonna get sued.

I found this line very amusing in that article:
"In an interview earlier this year, MSNBC's president Phil Griffin admitted that the network, to boost its ratings, caters to the so-called 'progressive left.'"
Really? You're trying to boost ratings by catering to the progressives? Have they seen the ratings of shows that cater to the left? Not so good.

What is going on in this country???

Submitted by Dave81 on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 4:57pm.

The only thing Republicans could do that would make the media happy is roll over and die, and even then they'd probably blame us for the mass suicide. How can the GOP get blamed for playing politics and blocking everything the president is trying to do when they're the only ones coming up with suggestions and he ISN'T DOING ANYTHING?!?
I'm curious...if conservatives can be blamed for shootings on the other side of the world, would this man be held responsible for someone who decided to "shoot every bullet he had" at the president? How do these people get away with it? I feel like we're going to wake up tomorrow to find that we've ALWAYS been at war with Oceana and it's never been any different!

democrats are the only ones

Submitted by ohio granny on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 5:23pm.

Democrats are the only ones playing russian roulette and wanting to use suicide bombers. They would shoot every person regardless of party who has the audacity to diasagree with them.

Of course they are the party of liars, cheats, crooks, and hypocrites. Thugs and bullies too. They defend crooks such as Charlie Rangel and Anthony Wiener all the while accusing republicans of doing what they are doing. You can bet that whatever they accuse republicans of doing it is because they are the ones doing it.

I would be ashamed to admit it if I was a democrat. They have no shame. They need to be defeated just as the Nazi's were defeated.

These idiots think perception is all that matters. As long as you're wearing the clothes and walking the walk it doesn't matter what the bank account looks like.

The SOBs are scared to death of losing their jobs and like always are Chicken-Littling us to death. Don't believe a baracking word they say. Trouble is that now they've baracked the budget and debt to a point that things are truly looking bad, yet they want to spend more and make it worse.

How quickly they forget all the political bullets shot at George W. Bush. I would expect the GOP to use this to take down Obama, since he's been driving the car into the ditch with the pedal to the metal.

Why waste a crisis? What's good for Obama is good for the GOP.

How very weak, as an analogy

Submitted by ant on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 1:02am.

How very weak, as an analogy and as actually making sense. First of all, you can't (in reality) criticize the ones that say, "hey, we're not playing this game, unload the gun and put it down." as the ones that want to play Russian Roulette, if anything Obama has shown himself to be the one spinning the cartridges and yelling, "Now! Now!". Second of all, If the GOP is playing Russian Roulette, they couldn't be pointing a loaded gun AT Obama. That's not how the game is played, the gun is neither fully loaded, nor pointed "to shoot" at someone else. Weak and stupid, sounds about right for Hoyer.

There are NO CUTS offered by either Party

Submitted by scottyusmc on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 5:32am.

The American people are being taken to the cleaners by a corrupt government on both sides with a lap-dog media providing the dramatic musical background.

Neither party nor the idiot in chief is proposing any solution to solve the countries credit problem. They are simply trying to figure out the best way to package the lie.

Any so-called "cut" that does not happen now (within this budget cycle) to existing authorizations is simply not a cut. Based on their own (made-up) definitions and baseline budgeting process, anything they label as a cut in the out-years is simply at most a "reduction in the rate of growth!" They tell us with a straight face that they project baseline spending to be say 5 trillion in 2015; then tell us they will only spend 4 trillion. Both numbers are significantly higher than what we are spending now, so WHERE IS THE CUT? Plus, regardless of the amount, IT'S ALL BORROWED MONEY from China!!!

They all should be prosecuted for the crimes they are committing on the American people.
