Justin Bieber Uninterested in Citizenship Because U.S. Doesn't Have Socialized Medicine

By Doug Ernst | February 17, 2011 | 10:52

A  A
Doug Ernst's picture

Justin Bieber, who regularly tells anyone who will listen to never say never, has done just that. In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, the singer asserted that he never plans on becoming an American citizen. The reason? Apparently the U.S. health care system, which leads the world in the creation of cutting edge medical technology and the invention of life-saving drugs, simply doesn't measure up to "free" (but compassionate) Canadian mediocrity.

The unseen costs of liberal policies never enters the young singer's mind. It's not because his famous hair is impenetrable to basic economics, either. It's because he's lucky enough to not have required highly specialized medical care on a moment’s notice. He's fortunate to be a millionaire who can charter a private jet to whatever world-renowned U.S. hospital has a crack staff of seasoned surgeons ready to put him back together, while the average Canadian gets to pray they're treated before bureaucratic red tape literally leads to their demise.

Maybe if Bieber weren’t so “evil,” he’d shell out some of his millions to fly a few fellow Canadians south of the border for some desperately needed heart surgeries.

Like any celebrity worth his salt, an interview with Rolling Stone demands brandishing some liberal credentials. It's just odd that he would make his stand on Canadian Exceptionalism by citing its track record on health care:

The Canadian-born Bieber never plans on becoming an American citizen. "You guys are evil," he jokes. "Canada's the best country in the world." He adds, "We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills. My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home."

Why is Bieber letting his bodyguard suffer like that? Haven’t we already established that it’s “evil” to not pay for others’ health care? Bieber certainly has the means. But I digress.

By Bieber's logic – shared, sadly, by the hoards of Washington’s medical socialists – the treatment offered in a pseudo-socialist Eastern Bloc nation would qualify as less "evil" than the services provided on the American market.  Like most liberals, the pop star fails to realize that guaranteed treatment is not synonymous with quality. Americans would rather have the next wonder drug provided by an “evil” pharmaceutical company that actually eases their symptoms than an army of nurses with wet towelettes who only succeed in making foreheads damp. We never miss the next generation pacemaker that never was, or the pill that couldn’t cure because federal regulations discouraged innovation. The task becomes even more difficult when quixotic kids with megaphones convince impressionable fans to accept the status quo.

American's don't go "broke" because of medical bills; Americans go broke because employer mandates mean "lower profits for many businesses, lower wages for millions of workers, increased unemployment, and higher prices for many goods and services." Americans aren't "evil" because premature babies aren't taken care of for "free", just as Canadians aren't evil because they favor the kind of massive tax increases on hard working families only liberalism adores:

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) imposes numerous tax hikes that transfer more than $500 billion over 10 years—and more in the future—from hardworking American families and businesses to Congress for spending on new entitlements and subsidies. In addition, higher tax rates on working and investing will discourage economic growth both now and in the future, further lowering the standard of living.

It's been said that Justin Bieber is looking for somebody to love. Let's just hope that somebody never needs a hip replacement. Perhaps someday a famous, bowl-haircutted Canadian will make the first successful case for "Canadian Exceptionalism." After his performance in Rolling Stone, it's highly unlikely that person will be Justin Bieber.

He's a 16 yr old kid

He is just a kid. What would he know about anything?

Bad enough the MSM thinks we care what celebrities think, now they expect us to care what 16 yr old kids think?

Shame on Rolling Stone.  Listen, there are 4 and 5 year olds who love this kid, and the interview was a hatchet job.  It should have ended with what is his favorite breed of dog.

I don't know who this kid is, nor do I care. Let him stay in Canada, play or what he does to his own people, leave the rest of the world alone. One can not be too safe, as something may happen to him whilst on the road, have to fly him home so he can be treated in his own country for free of course. People need to not support these so called icons and let them see where they end up.

I'd like to see him argue this point with Brock Lesner.

This punk kid doesn't know jack about adult life. This is an influence attempt going after the young. Mainstream media, Rolling Stone Included, are just child predators.

The bit about his body guard is dripping with irony. I am left to wonder why this is lost on him. Oh, maybe it has something to do with the punk kid factor. Or, maybe it has something to do with being taught what to think instead of how to think.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Submitted by CobraMan on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 12:07pm.

shawn, it's NOT a real country!  Canada is actually a lose collection of French rejects who happen to think, because they live so close to America, that they are a real country.  But, in actually, they are the cast-offs of a failed Empire who, without us, would soon be frozen bones and rotting flesh.  Without America, and the trade we provide, (never mind the HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of dollars we've pumped into your economy as a member of NATO for the last 50 years) you would be NOTHING! You would be the tundra's version of Mexico.

Ok, there's your expected Canadian bashing.  Feel better now?

Can I say something?

Submitted by DumbCanuck on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 12:21pm.

Sure, socialized medicine has it's benefits... for a 16 year-old.  How many 16 year-olds do you know in need of medical care?  Sure there are a few, but c'mon... generally speaking now?

One thing Beiber has to realize is that social medical care is NOT FREE!  Most kids don't even realize this because they don't pay taxes.  I'm not sure if Justin even considers this fact, because of his situation:

-He probably garners income from outside Canada, and if he doesn't,...

- Most of his income could very well be held in trust, and that will continue until he reaches the age of the majority.

I'm considerably older than 16, and although I must admit that it's "nice" not to worry about paying for a doctor's visit, it sure hurts when I pay more than 55% of my wages in taxes -- to all three levels of government: Federal, Provincial, and Municipal.

Fortunately for me, I'm still in reasonably good health, but if ever comes a day when I need real medical care, I would hope that it would be the best that's available, and not wait in line for 12 to 18 months for a hip transplant.

People DIE up here waiting for medical care.  The supreme court recently decided that health care is a right, and that provincial governments are reneging on their responsibilities for providing health care services, and they blame the federal government for not providing enough funding.  Typically Canadian decision, typically Canadian politics.  I'd rather pay for my own health insurance.  I'd probably come out ahead.

As for Cobra Man' reply... Your ignorance is almost bigotted.  Don't tell me that the US hasn't benefitted with their relationship with Canada.  Trade is a two-way streed.  Where would you guys be without our oil and gas pipelines, or our hydro-electricity?

Canada not a real country because of it's dependance on it's trading relationship with the U.S?  Ok, I'm a conservative canuck (which is why some people up here call me "Dumb Canuck") but your comments border on insanity.  By your logic, Japan is not a real country, nor is England, France... need I go on?

Oh, and by the way, France , England, and even Japan all fought, at one time, for independence, just as America did.  Granted, Japan LOST their war, but at least they fought!  Canada, on the other hand, is what was left behind when pre-revolutionary France lost their Empire. You guys never fought for independence, you were left behind!  You were rejected, unwanted, so much so that not even France, you're own Country, wanted to ship you back home. Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 11:37am.

You're right, he IS just a child, even if he's 16.   But his "appreciation" of health care in Canada is so woefully ignorant, it makes sense why he appeals to the rabid fan base that he has, they don't have an ounce of sense either.(they are so nutty they threatened his parents and friends!)

So the scary thing is, that same rabid fan base would take his words as doctrine/gospel and give their parents holy hell over whatever he espouses "because Justin says so!  Isn't he dreamy??"  *gag*

And his statement about his bodyguard?  Screw you, punk.  You deserve whatever grief and malice you get.  There are a LOT of other singers and performers with tons more class than you ever wish you had.  One example I remember is Beyonce.  Some of her fans accidentally got injured at one of her shows and she visited with them in the emergency room.

http://www.accesshollywood.com/jessica-alba/beyonce-visits-fans-injured-...

Or that time she gave Taylor Swift her moment after that moron Kanye West screwed it up for her.  There are other things, but Beyonce is a very classy lady.

Bieber?  Not so much.  Thanks to South Park, I hear that name and I think of their depiction and that scene where Cthulu does a number on him.  Fits him perfect.

Someone needs to tell Justin Bieber to keep his Canadian friends out of our country when they need an operation. There's a compromise, Canada, you can bash our health system, but by doing so, you forego the opportunity to come here for healthcare.

Who Cares What A Lipgloss Wearing Punk Thinks!

Submitted by gruyere cheese on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 2:37pm.

I can't stand this kid. I watched him perform at the Grammys and kept asking myself; why is he famous? He can't sing, he can't dance and he is certainly not even good looking.

No one will remember his name or what his music was all about years from now. Hopefully, he will fly his sorry  *&%$#SS back to Canada and stay there for good.

Bieber reminds me of a sermon...

Submitted by UltraC on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 2:57pm.

... I heard on Father's Days many years ago:  The priest relayed how, when he was 16 years old, he considered his father one of the dumbest men on the planet.  The priest said when he turned 21, it was amazing how much his dad had learned in just five years!

Justin Bieber, from what little I know of him, sounds like pretty much the stereotypical U.S. teenager:  A belief in his own superior intelligence, but not yet mature enough to acknowledge his own ignorance.

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.  -- Ronald Wilson Reagan

Stunning

Submitted by Rush to Judgement on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 2:59pm.

Or more correctly, unbelievable - that even one person's blood pressure raised by the smallest margin over what a 16 pop star has to say. It's not like he used the f*** word.

I can't wait.

Submitted by Ashrak on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 3:00pm.

I look forward to when the huge money stops flowing in and this kid gets a load of the TAXES he has to pay. It is then he will realize WHO is paying for all that "FREE" healthcare.

Notice how he said "we" don't need to worry about paying them[doctors]?  We are not that far from him understanding that he is no longer part of that "we" he so touts.

I know "beiber" has been the butt of a joke over at FreeRepublic since this Justin was just out of diapers.......history must be repeating itself.

Consider yourself lucky. I have a young daughter right in the thick of that punk celebrity creation. Fun it is not.

Justin Bieber? Are you serious?

Submitted by Morganfrost on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 3:31pm.

What, I'm supposed to be distressed that America won't have Justin Bieber as a citizen?  Because our health care system doesn't meet with his approval?  What next, am I going to hear that the actor who played Harry Potter isn't keen on our fish and wildlife laws?

Bieber doesn't want to become an American? I'm crushed!

Submitted by PrairieSky on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 7:23pm.

Who really gives a tinker's damn what this kid thinks? He's a snot-nosed 16 year old who doesn't have the first freakin clue about anything, and is likely parroting the liberal, anti-US bs that his idiot parents and handlers spew.

It's amazing that this wet-behind-the-ears boy has no compunction about dissing the US and any possibility of becoming a citizen (like we give a damn anyway), but is more than happy to come here and tour, and sell his merchandise, and market himself, his music and his movie to Americans. Funny...Bieber doesn't seem to have any trouble doing that, does he? I'd love to see how much money this kid could make if he confined himself to Canada? As far as I'm concerned, he can remain north of the border...Canada can keep him.

Bieber is merely the current flavor of the month, and once his voice finally changes, his popularity will likely diminish, and five years from now, people will be asking whatever happened to Justin Bieber?

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction...It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them (our children) to do the same." ~President Ronald Reagan

But If Kanye Had Attacked Beiber...

Submitted by TheReal7Sticks on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 11:02pm.

I don't get it. Here is a blithering attack against a sixteen-year-old boy by people who readily denounced Kanye West hogging the spotlight away from Taylor Swift, even though she was nineteen and not seventeen. Have we gotten to the point that we now attack kids based on their opinions rather than simply teaching them the facts about what is and what isn't? Oh, but if Kanye had hogged the spotlight away from Beiber, or God forbid, his naked backside was running down the street in an episode of Skins, you'd be screaming bloody murder for the adults that did that stuff to him.

And last time I checked, he also said he doesn't believe in abortion, so get that through your head: sixteen-year-olds don't have enough life experience to know enough about politics unless they were some sort of child prodigy that could run circles around Karl Rove and James Carville.

Trolls coming out of the woodwork

Submitted by Radical1979 on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 11:15pm.

A few differences 7, no one took away Beiber's moment in the sun when he was receiving an award.  Swift was trying to thank people for an award she had won.  Bieber was making ignorant comments against our country, and they are being responded to.

And we are allowed to respond to people's opinions.

It's pretty sad

Submitted by BikerHoop on Fri, 02/18/2011 - 10:40am.

... that an article would be written about a kid who has no effect on the lives of the populace, by a journalist who should be focusing on important issues.

Who cares what Bieber thinks? Why would any sane adult allow the ideology of a kid barely through puberty (if in fact he even is) affect their lives. "Oh my God, Justin doesn't like this. I guess I'd better re-examine my thoughts!"

Whatta buncha crap!
