NYT Frets About Catholic Nuns in America
The New York Times' obsession with the Catholic Church reached a new level of hysteria on Friday when an editorial bemoaned that the Vatican is now criticizing American nuns who publicly contradict Church doctrine.
The Times' editorial prompts a number of questions: What concern is it to the Times how the Catholic Church conducts its business? Since when has the Times been worried about Catholic nuns in America?
It has been no secret that many Catholic women religious (nuns) in recent years have been in open dissent of several components of Church teaching, such those regarding the all-male priesthood and celibacy requirements.
Because of this open disagreement, the Vatican has now taken efforts to review the leadership of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), an organization which represents about 80 percent of nuns in the United States. These efforts seek to fully align the conference with the teachings of the Church and with Church law.
The Times frets that the move by the Vatican is "a misreading of the very fine work in schools, charities, prisons and impoverished neighborhoods being done by about 60,000 nuns across the nation." Really?
The Vatican itself debunks this alleged "misreading" on the very first page of a report it issued on the matter:
"The Holy See acknowledges with gratitude the great contribution of women Religious to the Church in the United States as seen particularly in the many schools, hospitals, and institutions of support for the poor which have been founded and staffed by Religious over the years."
Good grief. Did the Times even read the very document that it cited?
The Times’ motivation is pretty clear. The paper intensely dislikes the Catholic Church and what it represents. And it does not like the fact that the Vatican is finally pushing back against dissenting individuals who have opposed the Church by speaking favorably on "progressive" issues with which the Times aligns itself.
Unfortunately for the Times, the ranks of "liberal" and "progressive" Catholic women religious are shrinking and increasingly geriatric. "Traditional Catholicism is Winning," despite what the Grey Lady wants you to believe.
The Times can get as huffy as it wants to, but it will simply get even more frustrated if it continues to think it will somehow influence the 2,000-year teachings of the Catholic Church.

When the Times wants to give helpful advice to the Catholic Church it's like when the Times wants to give helpful advice to Republicans, Israel, and Conservative Blacks and women.
I think I understand the connection between the NY Times and . .

If the Catholic Church really appreciated these women, they'd let them "do their own thing" and not be so dogmatic. You know, let everyone do what they want; it keeps the numbers up.
As Fr. Hollowell says in this video, the Catholic Church's seminaries and convents (the traditional ones) are bursting at the seams. With young people! People who are hungry for the real thing, not some watered-down feel-good "theology."
Gosh, if only the NYT had the same sympathy for those who "dissent" from the teachings of the Church of Socialism....
How ridiculous

The Times has been repeatedly exposed as a haven for fraudulent journalists. Does anyone take their brand of reportage seriously anymore?

is consumed with the Catholic's because it is the latest agenda of obama. When their hero makes a statement, the NTY runs with it. Anything to print/report except the stories about fast and furious, sylondra's failures, electric cars failure, obamacare failure, spending out of control, scandels, vacations, golf, czars, Bill Ayres and Jerimiah Wright.

The Church does not answer to them, and does not care what they think. No sane person could possibly see the Pope fretting over an editorial in the NYT. He has to answer to a much higher authority.
The NYT claims the Vatican would limit the nuns' charity work...

Quote from the article above:
The Times frets that the move by the Vatican is "a misreading of the very fine work in schools, charities, prisons and impoverished neighborhoods being done by about 60,000 nuns across the nation." Really?
The real problem is when the State or Federal government dictates how the charities should be run. The State of Massachusetts passed a law that required all adoption agencies to place children with gay, as well as straight parents. That law would make it illegal to discriminate against adoptive parents based on their marital status or sexual preference. As a consequence of this law, Catholic adoption agencies would choose to close all operations in Massachusetts, rather than violate the moral teachings of the Church. Perhaps the radical nuns would favor placing children with gay adoptive parents, regardless of what the bishops rule.
A similar issue of government mandates could cause Catholic hospitals to close, rather than violate their Right to Life doctrine.

When liberalism is your religion you attack anything or anyone who openly disagrees with you. That is what the NY Slimes does, that is what democrats do. THAT IS WHAT LIBERALS DO.
New York Times, typical hypocrites.

Hay, New York Times, what happens to one of your "journalists" who violate the newspaper's "doctrine," also know as policies, like the policies regarding plagiarism? That's right: THEY GET FIRED!
Times, why is it that organizations such as yourself pride yourself for enforcing your own policies, yet seem to take great offense when a different organization tries to enforce it's own policies? Do you like being hypocrites or something?
