Not the Catholic Church? NYT Ignores Shocking Hollywood Pedophilia Charges
Recent reports suggest that the Hollywood community has a monstrous child abuse problem on its hands, and the New York Times is remaining silent.
Yet when it comes to decades-old allegations against long-deceased Catholic clerics overseas, the paper is all over it.
Consider the recent news:
- Los Angeles law enforcement arrested Jason James Murphy, 35, on Friday (12/9/11) on suspicion of violating sex offender registry laws. Murphy worked for years helping to cast children in Hollywood movies even though he was a convicted child molester. In 1996, he was sentenced in Washington state for kidnapping and molesting an 8-year-old.
- On December 1, Police arrested Martin Weiss, a longtime Hollywood manager of child actors, with sexually abusing a former client. Weiss reportedly told a 12-year-old victim "what they were doing was common practice in the entertainment industry." He now faces eight felonies.
- Fernando Rivas, 59, an award-winning composer for "Sesame Street," appeared in court November 21 after the FBI searched his home in April and "found photographs of a four-year-old girl naked and ‘restrained in handcuffs and other bondage-type devices.'"
These events come on the heels of Corey Feldman's eye-opening remarks in August to ABC's "Primetime Nightline" that "the No. 1 problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia. That's the biggest problem for children in this industry ... It's the big secret."
Alison Arngrim, the veteran Hollywood actress best known for her role decades ago as Nellie on "Little House on the Prairie," has said, "This (the abuse of children) has been going on for a very long time.
"If a child actor is being sexually abused by someone on the show, is the family, agents or managers – the people who are getting money out of this – going to say, 'OK, let's press charges'? No, because it's going to bring the whole show to a grinding halt, and stop all the checks," says Arngrim. "So, the pressure is there is not to say anything."
Cover-up? Absolutely.
Yet the New York Times has not reported any of these stories.
One story the Times has reported, however, is the unconfirmed claim that a Catholic archbishop in Ireland, who died in 1973, was accused of child abuse after he died. The Times placed the story on page A6 on Friday (12/9/11).
Indeed, we must demand justice and compassion for victims of clergy abuse. The harm to innocent youth has been immeasurable.
But let us demand equity, fairness, and perspective in the reporting of the Catholic Church abuse narrative. The New York Times is not delivering this at all.
Where are you, Maureen Dowd?

"The real problem is homosexual men being given access to adolescent boys."
Actually, the real problem is rampant homosexuality everywhere!

Homosexual adults are as responsible as heterosexual adults.
The real problem is adults (men and women) being sexually attracted to children ... and acting on those urges. And it doesn't help to have a popular culture awash in sexuality, starting with creepy beauty pageants for 5-year-olds, vampy children in commercials, raunch junior cheerleaders, all nicely combined in an old Pizza Hut commercial that showed two boys ogling the Dallas Cheerleaders' boobs.
I disagree, CO2.....

I would say that SOME homosexual adults are as responsible as heterosexuals.
A group that puts on a Folsom Street Fair every year is hardly responsible.
And what about NAMBLA?
Oh, yeah, the rash NAMBLA. Forgot about them.

And there were also the proponents of child sexuality (between children and also with adults) that became popular in the 70s and 80s—which, btw, was one of the "mitigating" reasons that explained why Roman Polanski shouldn't be judged so harshly (ask Whoopi "rape rape" Goldberg).
There's the latency period in preadolescence when boys and girls don't want anything to do with each other, and there's a natural "yuck" factor that keeps siblings from getting too intimate. It should also work for parents and, going beyond that, for any adult. Twenty year olds don't naturally tend to have an attraction to a 40-year old, i.e., people their parents' age. And 40- or 50-year old people shouldn't have a strong interest in children.
But now with "cougar" tales and May-September romances and the Twiggies and Kate Mosses of the world (I suppose Justin Bieber, too) and the all-shaved look, popular-pornified culture has completely blurred the difference between the appearances of adults and children and made it acceptable to desire a person with a body that looks like a child.
Pffft propaganda 101

Pravda was the USSR propaganda division years ago. They were and still are one of the best news outlet around. Just as places like ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and others are today, the best news outlets out there.
They report on news that is amazing, they report so much news that it is amazing. They collect information from around the globe and report on millions of things per day. They have stories about amazing things like the mentos vehicle. They have stories about things like Lowes not running anymore Muslim ads, they have stories about Rosie O Donnell saying that Newt should read history books, about a lunar eclipse, about a fight at a basketball game, about an Ipad theft.
Oh, by the way, that was a list from the Glenn Beck site.
The problem with all of these "news" outlets, a lot of them do fluff pieces. Nothing with real substance and do not actually cover ANYTHING of real importance. Or they skew the coverage.
The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
What ever happened to sources of news that actually covered news that is actually important?
We are in the middle of a depression no matter what the "news" outlets want to foment. I have said it before and I will say it again, when the government is deficit spending at 10% of the GDP and the GDP growth is only 2-3%, that is a NEGATIVE 7-8% GDP decline!
Yes, there is a manipulation of "news" to the left, but there is also a complete and utter lack of covering real news on almost all news dissemination outlets.
Oh well, time to watch some DWTS!
Child molestation happens in Hollywood?
Submitted by CO2Maker on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 5:26am.
Really? I guess it's a Roman thing—Catholic Church, Polanski—but only one of them is NOT guilty because, like, you know, he's a genius.
I know! All the child molesters in Hollywood work on movies about how bad the Catholic Church is. Yeah, that's the ticket. Maybe some of them previously worked at Syracuse, which is in New York, or Penn State, which is in ... um?... another northern state—and you know that a lot of Catholics live there. What can you say?

Dave Pierre – Here’s a “heads-up” for you …
Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 1:27pm.
…But first let me say thanks for the noteworthy article.
Yesterday I was just roaming around the internet and came across the “Imdb” (Internet movie database) where they had a “preview” of the new “3 Stooges” movie.
Being a long time Stooge fan I clicked on the preview and found that this new movie is actually nothing more than a vulgar mockery of the Catholic Church and especially the dedicated Nuns of the faith. I’m sure the original 3 Stooges will be rolling over in their graves at what the creators of this new version have done to their “name brand.”
Again, this is just a “heads-up” and I’m sure it is something that will be debated here at NB in the future.

Thank you for an excellent "heads-up," Grumpy. Indeed, that trailer is an awful mockery of nuns.
I appreciate the tip very much. I will likely post on this soon.

Yes, since I am a fan of the The Three Stooges, I went and saw the trailer. After watching it, I told myself, nope, not watching the movie. It is a complete insult on nuns.
Nothing is sacred for way too many people.
A straight-up biopic of the Stooges would be nice.

Unfortunately, that piece of trash being offered to the public now will probably be the next "Hangover" because too many adolescents (of the younger and older variety) will fall for the vapid, vacuous and vulgar humor. It would be too painful for most classic Three Stooges fans to watch, because Moe, Larry and Curly/Joe/Shemp always kept the humor clean and the scripts were suggestive but never overt. By all accounts, the lives lead by the original three stooges (Moe, Larry and Shemp) were studies in the history of show business. Curly and Shemp were actually Moe's brothers. Larry Fine was a talented musician on the violin. Joe De Rita and Joe Besser were both established stage comedians. All of them played the vaudeville circuits and were brilliant physical comedians. They lived rather tragic lifestyles in some respects, but their stories certainly would have made a far more interesting picture than the pile of horse exhaust that is about to be released.
Dr. Sam & All,

Dr. Sam,
There is a bio-pic (comedy-drama) from 2000 about The Stooges… (Coincidentally named: “The Three Stooges”)
You can read about it here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0214698/
It really was a well done effort to portray the reality of the Stooges.

When my children were young, I was always with them. When they were school age, they were in school, in a church group, or boy/girl scouts. NEVER would I have allowed them to spend time without me unless it was with family or people I knew extremely well.
“dog bites man”
Submitted by needle on Mon, 12/12/2011 - 12:06am.
Perhaps pedophilia in Hollywood falls in the category of “dog bites man.”
Or when it comes to the NYT covering the sins of Hollywood, “there but for the grace of God go I” may be the prevailing sentiment. How the “H” will we ever know? Based upon its homosexual bias, one can assume that the NYT is chockablock with gays and lesbians.
- Looking forward to the self-annihilation of the Manipulated Stories Machine.
