"Remember during the campaign when John McCain attacked [Barack] Obama for acting like a celebrity and we all laughed at the grumpy old shellshocked fool? Well, it turns out he was right ... It's getting to where you can't turn on your TV without seeing Obama."
That's not a Republican talking. It's Obama supporter Bill Maher in an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, "Enough With the Obamathon." Maher - like most clear-thinking individuals - has pretty much seen enough of the never-ending adulation and exposure being heaped on President Obama. (I must admit: I never thought I'd use the words "clear-thinking" and "Maher" in the same sentence. But Maher's op-ed proves the old adage that even a broken clock is right twice a day.)
From Maher's article:
President Obama should just join the cast of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" It's not that farfetched; he's been on everything else.
I'm still a fan, but there's a fine line between being transparent and being overexposed. Every time you turn on the TV, there's Obama. He's getting a puppy! He's eating a cheeseburger with Joe Biden! He's taking the wife to Broadway and Paris -- this is the best season of "The Bachelor" yet!
I get it: You love being on TV. I love my bong, but I take it out of my mouth every once in a while. The other day, I caught myself saying to a friend, "Don't tell me if he's fixed the economy yet, I'm Tivo-ing it."
Also:
I mean, selling the personal part to stay popular, I'm all for it, but you got us already. We like you, we really like you! You're skinny and in a hurry and in love with a nice lady. But so's Lindsay Lohan. And like Lohan, we see your name in the paper a lot, but we're kind of wondering when you're actually going to do something.
Near the end of the article, Maher can't resist the proverbial cheap shots at President George W. Bush. But, for the most part, Maher's overall "Obamathon" premise is correct: Obama is too much "celebrity" and not enough "President."
I'm glad that Obama is president, but the "Audacity of Hope" part is over. Right now, I'm hoping for a little more audacity.

I still have no respect for
June 13, 2009 - 12:27 ET by gmaniac1I still have no respect for this man. He's using this opportunity to go along with public sentiment, that is Obama is still personally popular but his policies are not. That goes to show you how ignorant the American public is right now.
When the people fear the government it's called tyranny, when the government fears the people it's called liberty!

June 13, 2009 - 13:03 ET by jdripperThe other night I was at Buffalo Hot Wings before taking in a film and the messiah came on the TV and the people groaned. It was spontaneous and very loud. There was one Obama voter who booed seemed that under George Bush he had a job, and now he is unemployed and 44.
Oh his job? He worked as a mechanic at a Jeep dealership that was shut down.

That's happening where I work, as well. In our lunchroom we have TVs on and when Obama comes on during the noon news it's a chorus of "ugh!"...even from the dumb ones who voted for him.
Maher just knows that
June 13, 2009 - 13:05 ET by mostlymoderateMaher just knows that overexposure has a tendancy to go the other way after it hits a plateau. Overexposure could mean extreme disgust for the viewers and come re-election time...bubye.
Kind of the negative of Bush
June 13, 2009 - 13:05 ET by KC MulvilleIn the Bush years, everyone but Bush got face time. When there was a foreign policy crisis, Condi Rice (or Powell before her) was on, not Bush. Or it was Rumdfeld. But not Bush.
Now, while Obama is hot, they're using him all the time.
This is where experienced management comes in handy. It takes experience to handle huge egos. The easy way out is to smother them, but then you don't get the benefit of their talent. If you want their talent to help you, you have to figure a way to let them out without being afraid of their initiative.
Obama is just keeping the lid on them right now. That isn't management, it's fear.

Obama's blueprint
June 13, 2009 - 13:32 ET by metaphorsbwithuMaher's just giving Obama the heads up that sometimes less is more.
However, for Obama, this does not apply.
What Maher fails to understand is that Obama will not allow anyone to slip in and replace him as the new "American Idol" ... even for a minute. Everyone and everything must revolve around Obama.
His blueprint requires total control of the airwaves from start to finish, which is why so many of us predicted his administration would be a continuation of his campaign.

June 13, 2009 - 15:14 ET by motherbeltI agree completely.
The man is so narcissistic that he thinks nothing ever officially occurs until he gives a speech on it.
I said many times during the campaign that whenever someone repeatedly says "It's not about me!" You can be certain that that's exactly what it's about.
He proves it more every day. Even the networks are already getting tired of his demanding prime time slots for whatever subject he wants to pose about. By the time he comes on TV whatever the subject is, it's been around the world twice already, so what's the point, other than the personal attention?

The media HAS to keep spinning...
June 13, 2009 - 14:06 ET by SlyrrObama said it himself - 'You aint' seen nuthin' yet'. He knows now that his personal approval rating is tied directly to his media slaves, and even THEY are getting sick of him.
There's a reason why he said 'it's now or never' for his Communist Medical plan. The next election cycle is going to get ugly. I mean REALLY ugly. What the media did during the Obama campaign against Palin will seem like Sesame Street compared to what they're going to do in 2010.
These media slaves to the Obama thug machine will fight like dragons to KEEP the demorats in the majority in the house, the senate and everywhere else. They're going to slime and trash every Republican in their desperation to help their party of choice maintain their absolute control over your lives.
The template is already set people, and your'e seeing the first volleys already. Every shooting and act of violence happening in the country right now is being blamed by Obama's media slaves on Republicans.
Rush was right. Demorats are fighting to try and criminalize their political opponents. Mark my words, it will get to a point before long where the media will be asking questions like 'should the Republican party be outlawed - for the GOOD of the country'?
For those who care
June 13, 2009 - 14:30 ET by ClericalGalMaher's "bong" joke was ripped off from Groucho Marx. On the radio version of "You Bet Your Life", Groucho asked a woman with ten children (not sure on the number) if it wasn't a hardship to have so many kids. She answered in part, "I love my husband". Groucho then said, "Well, I love my cigar too, but I take it out of my mouth every once in awhile." Because "You Bet Your Life" was recorded, that joke never made it on the air, for obvious reasons. My source on this is the You Bet Your Life: The Lost Episodes DVD box set.
PS: Maher is still a cretin, even though his love for Obama has cooled.

June 13, 2009 - 17:57 ET by KevroyIt seems that every morning I turn on my tv there is Obama 'live' and I am sick of it. Do I really need the Smoker-In-Chief to hold a press conference to tell me to cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze. Do I need him to explain that the govt is now honoring the GM car warranties, ad nauseum? It isn't necessary to address the nation every single day. Does he ever put in a full day at the office? Do your damn job, sir. Stop playing the part of the attention whore.

Barack Obama's 'Change' for America
June 14, 2009 - 05:55 ET by Retired Geek1) Barack Obama wants to accommodate the Citizens who refuse to provide for themselves, by stealing from those Citizens who do provide for themselves and 'Spread the Wealth'.
2) Barack Obama wants to redefine 'Perverted Behavior' as good, so that those bound by perversion can have 'Self Esteem'.
3) Barack Obama wants to declare that 'Good is Evil' and that 'Evil is Good', in order to destroy any moral codes, values and the idea of right and wrong.
4) Barack Obama wants to perpetuate Racism and Bigotry as necessary to achieve 'Equality' and therefore bring about 'Social Justice'.
5) Barack Obama is against 'Equal Rights' and 'Protections', provided by the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights for every Citizen in America, because he 'Feels' that certain races, genders and sexual preferences should have 'Special Rights and Protections' other citizens should not have.
6) Barack Obama believes that a 'Certain Class of Citizens' (babies), should have no 'Rights or Protections' in order that another 'Class of Citizens' can kill them.
7) Barack Obama has great 'Empathy' for criminals, rapists, murderers but NO 'Sympathy' for the victims of those criminals.
8) Barack Obama 'Feels' that America's enemies, who have 'Sworn' to kill and destroy all of America's Citizens should be treated with 'Honor and Respect', even if that means the 'Destruction of America'.
9) Barack Obama wants to view America's veterans as potential terrorist who must be constantly monitored. At no time does Barack Obama treat Veterans with 'Honor and Respect' except to pay lip service during a photo op. (thanks Russ)
10) Barack Obama is 'Ashamed' of America, because its Citizens have created the most powerful and free Country in the history of mankind.
11) Barack Obama believes that 'Socialism', which has caused over 100,000,000 deaths by murder and starvation, is the 'Best Approach' for 'Change' in America.
It's only a matter of time
June 14, 2009 - 08:40 ET by bobwhiteMaher's disillusionment with his bogus messiah is welcome news for me. If reality is finally setting in for Maher, then it's setting in for others like him. Now it's only a matter of time before they become painfully aware, that they have been had, by a cheap, carny huckster.

I've been trying to find a place to borrow the old Anthony Quinn movie "The Secret of Santa Vittoria". There is a scene at the beginning where town drunk Quinn has climbed the water tower to paint an anti Mussolini slogan after the fall of Mussolini and he tells his young friend how when Mussolini took powers all the fools cheered, and who was the biggest fool cheering loudest, it was I, Bombolini!
I didn't put that in quotes because it is just a paraphrase.

Bill Maher played you
June 16, 2009 - 11:36 ET by Melvin_UdallWith all due respect, Maher played you.
This is more propaganda, just far more subtle than is his norm.
The point of the piece isn't Obama's overexposure. The point is that despite all the radical changes Obama and the Democrats have shoved through Maher doesn't think they've been radical or fast enough. He's saying that Bush was unapologeticin all the things he did that Maher deems wrong, and so Obama should just shove through whatever he wants and stop explaining.
This isn't a positive. It's a call to arms to the Liberals to push for more radical change.
