Cartoonist Belittles Bush Africa Commitment

As NB's Matthew Sheffield wrote last week, rocker/activist Bob Geldof praised President Bush for doing more for poor Africans "than any other president so far." Geldof also chided the American press for not reporting enough on the efforts by the President to deliver billions in aid to fight disease and poverty in the ailing continent.

Now look at this awful cartoon by syndicated cartoonist Joel Pett from this past week. Apparently in the eyes of Pett, the President's unwavering commitment to Africa is no more significant than a small bouquet of flowers. Ugh.

Geldof is right-on in his assessment of the American media. As Pett's cartoon illustrates, the media is simply defiant in giving the President credit where credit is due. Read more about the Bush administration's commitment to Africa here.

This, after the big deal

This, after the big deal they made about Bill Clinton's AIDS initiative, (Oh, but he has an initiative and a foundation!!!) is disgusting.

Not surprising, just disgusting.

Fortunately for President Bush, that's not the standard by which he measures himself.

"Artists" such as this joker

"Artists" such as this joker are so predictable. Just hateful pathetic little losers.

The cartoonist is pathtic

The cartoonist is pathtic that is for sure. But why-o-why doesn't Bush ever lash out at these ingrates. He has just sits there and soaks in everything these idiots come up with. Speak up for crissakes!

Yeah I know he doesn't want to lower himself to their level but every once in a while you have to knock them upside the head. Tell them to shut the hell up and get away from you! His ratings would go sky high if he did that just once. He just has to try it. Just once.

Pett needs to get a grip on

Pett needs to get a grip on reality...

Oops..if he did that he wouldn't be employed now would he?

Deplorable.

Pres. Bush has done more for AID's and this is what he gets...it was the same way on a couple of the evening news shows I saw, they mainly just made fun of him dancing at different functions while attempting to show they were being fair and balanced with their biased lying so-called reports...they weren't... I was furious.

Glad I rarely watch the main network evening news.

He has no idea how much

He has no idea how much Bush has done in Africa! This is pretty lol because he hasn't even been reading the HEADLINES, the talking points of most liberals today.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

Dave - facts are in, Bush saved Millions of lives, no cartoon..

Dave. As I noted back on the 18th:

Ann Curry, in an interview on NBC's Today with the Pres. and 1st Lady, offerred to President Bush that his efforts against HIV/Aids and Malaria in Africa have saved over a million lives - and I added, " Mark my words, that will be the least reported line of the week within the MSM:

"Even your critics, Mr. (we prefer Mr. President) Bush say that you have had the greatest impact on Africa than any President in US history. You have fought for funding and have saved over a million lives, from Malaria and Aids."

A more fitting cartoon, would have presented a sea of millions of Africans standing in front of President Bush showing their appreciation. Oh, I forgot, Bush is not loved like Clinton by the media.

Even the far - leftitst side of the media understood years ago who belonged in that cartoon, "The Nation's" David Corn: Too little, too late - How many times is Bill Clinton going to apologize to Africa?

And that was not the first time that Bob Geldof had spoken out for Bush. (and not the first time that the media didn't fawn all over positive comments for Bush by a celebrity -- call it what it is, censorship.) Now, this is what the cartoon was about:

What did Geldof say a number of years ago:

You'll think I'm off my trolley when I say this, but the Bush administration is the most radical - in a positive sense - in its approach to Africa since Kennedy"

[..]

Former president Bill Clinton had not helped Africa much, despite his high-profile visits and apparent empathy with the downtrodden, the organiser of Live Aid, claimed. "Clinton was a good guy, but he did fuck all."

Well Gary

There are people that appreciate GB's efforts in Africa.Clinton was about Clinton.

2009 he will be on Danceing with the Stars.

If what Bush has done is

If what Bush has done is akin to a bouquet of flowers, surely the insightful Pett has drawn a picture of Clinton raping the women and eating the children of Africa.

If saving a million Africans is illustrated as delivering a bouquet of flowers to a dying man, surely Clinton's policy of "feeling their pain" and ignoring their plight should merit a rape and pilage themed comic.

When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).

Just another example of the

Just another example of the left never giving credit for anything a Republican President does, EVER. Bush could single handedly find a cure for cancer, and the left would say "what's the matter, you couldn't find a cure for Alzheimer's?"

HH - rather reminds me of Nixon...

It was President Nixon who announced and began the US funding of the war on cancer... and just like Roosevelt, Kennedy, LBJ, we hear the MSM bringing up that all the time - right? (;~> gary

HH - you have the right concept

HH - you have the right concept, but I think the MSM would say:

"Bush is a Homophobe. Cures cancer instead of HIV"

Pledge to not support RINOs ever again!

Yes indeed! Much better

Yes indeed! Much better use of spin the MSM way.

so why do I care about Africa?????

really,, why??

is it PC????

no I don't any more than any other country that is in the dumpster....

Am I more fotunate...very much so thank you and I am thankful for it..'

Do I have the answers,,, no I don't .. am I thankful,,, yes I am... do I feel guilty... no I don't...

Why should I?????

These people need DDT and food.. that's what I feel... they are dying due to the UN ....

I'm not suprised.

I'm not surprised that the media refuses to acknowledge any positive aspects of a Republican presidency. According to the liberal media, Bush and the Republicans are the true enemy. Not AIDS, not poverty, not terrorism, there is no enemy but Bush.

→ Lefty Hate cartoon

The caricature of Bush was mildly funny, but the depiction of the big-lipped, white-eyed, flat-nosed Africans is offensive.  OK, it's only offensive to me.

So the Libs are ready to bring back Amos and Andy.  They get a free pass on lampooning Africans as long as it's part of the larger BDS message.

Maybe President

Maybe President Bush's African initiatives haven't received adequate coverage...but I personally saw favorable reports by CNN and Brian Williams on NBC, as well as the very liberal Eleanor Clift expressing praise for Bush's efforts on The McGlaughlin Report.  I'm sure there were many more stories about it elsewhere.

Jer

→ I saw them too, Jer

So that makes it Ok for a Liblefty cartoonist to portray Africans as big-lipped, wide-eyed, flat-nosed, idiots.

I get it.  Love those Little Black Sambo stories, don't you?

<sarc>

Of course not...the cartoon

Of course not...the cartoon was ridiculous and offensive.

Jer

→ OK, Jer

Just making sure you picked up on the stereotype Liblefties will tolerate to advance their BDS.

Billions?

And where does he get that money? I'm sure it isn't his to give.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said.
"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our
people, and neither do we.
" -George W. Bush

africa?

a lot of those things I see in that cartoon, tribalism, poverty, religious fundamentalism . . . how exactly are those Bush's fault?
