Every event is a chance for the media to spin. CNN twisted the latest college shooting to blame it on business, instead of a crazed killer.
On the Feb. 17 "American Morning," Veronica De La Cruz showed how two Web sites, operated by "the same owner," sold products to the shooters in both the Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University tragedies. She said it was "pretty shocking to figure this out." Anchor Kiran Chetry agreed, calling it an "eerie connection."
But De La Cruz was just getting started. She was even upset at the sympathy banners on the site because they were near banners that still advertised the company's business. "I want to show you the strange juxtaposition if you move down the page. Here's the NIU shooting and then ‘Save big on rifles and handguns' right underneath. You know, something that kind of turns your stomach, if you will," she added.
De La Cruz didn't bother to explain that there were actually two banners. The first, "Tragedy at NIU," included a statement from TGSCOM Inc. President Eric Thompson that she never mentioned. "For now, the most important thing we can all do is send our thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of the victims of this heinous act. I'd also suggest making a contribution to the NIU Memorial Fund," wrote Thompson.
Chetry's comments have special irony. A quick Google check of her reveals that one of the most popular mentions of her name includes photos of her dressed as Lara Croft from the "Tomb Raider" game and movie. Chetry is shown with not one, but two handguns drawn in menacing fashion.

I'm sorry, but...

PS I guess car dealers shouldn't keep trying to sell more cars after fatalities?
If this is winning, I think I'd rather lose...
"Shocking"
February 18, 2008 - 13:17 ET by iveseenitallIt's "pretty shocking to figure out" what hypocrites these "liberals" really are and what "journalism" has become in America.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
Reason is always wasted on liberals
February 19, 2008 - 11:53 ET by jrichI fully agree with iveseenitall that liberals are shocking. However, pointing out contradictions to a liberal regarding what they say and/or do is a total waste of time and energy. Why? For the following reasons:
1) Liberals do NOT believe there is any reason for THEM to be consistent. Non-consistency is only a charge to be lodged against conservatives,
2) Liberals operate primarily in the "feel-good" realm, so logical thought just does not interest them (reflect on the total absence of logical content in Obama's campaign speeches, accompanied by drooling, fainting, Ophraized fans),
3) Liberals really operate on the premise that they can successfully rewrite history (a move described in Orwell's 1984, and continually perfected by liberals and democrats), therefore (as per Bill and Hillary Clinton) they can just deny/spin anything they have previously said or done,
4) Liberals really believe that the rest of the world is stupid, and that most people will not pay any attention to their inconsistencies and lies (unfortunately this is the absolute truth for a significant percentage of the population).
So, don't waste time and energy addressing comments concerning consistency toward liberals; instead, vector them toward conservatives and independents (NewsBusters is great for this).
Chetry should ask why is it not shocking the schools..........
February 18, 2008 - 13:38 ET by Lame CherryChetry should ask why is it not shocking the schools both Virginian and Illinois LEFT THEIR STUDENTS OPEN TO BE SHOT UP BY BEING A GUN FREE ZONE.
I doubt CNN will have a link to Chetry's email, but I might pop over and drop her an email and ask her that.
If students and parents and schools had taken advantage of the discount guns, gun programs in the school teaching safe firearm handling this punk would never have ventured there and started blasting people. He was a coward and chose not a bar where street toughs were but a school of educated passivity.
I will repeat, none of these cowards shoot up football teams now do they. They pick the area of least resistance like rapists and robbers.
Something to think about as if the campus was armed by ROTC officers alone none of these situations would ever occur due to the psychopathy of the shooters. They choose a college campus due to the conditions and conditioning found there.
*HIC IACET ARTORIVS REX QVONDAM REXQVE FVTVRVS
If that is indeed true, that these cowards chose a soft target,
February 18, 2008 - 14:38 ET by WhoIsJohnGaltthen what you're saying is that these weasels could not have been stopped, merely pushed from one soft target location to another, right?
I agree with you, but I'm just taking your point a step further. If it wasn't guns, I have no doubt that these disturbed individuals would have chosen another weapon, and if not a traditional weapon, but maybe a car rammed into a crowd, or something equally as otherwise innocuous.
Cars don't kill people...maniac drivers kill people.
In Accokeek Md. 8 people
February 19, 2008 - 10:32 ET by ahusserIn Accokeek Md. 8 people were killed when a car plunged into a crowd watching an illegal drag race. Where is the msm pundit with the "Car Violence" graphic in the background.
Chetry and De La Cruz
February 18, 2008 - 17:48 ET by KrisChetry and De La Cruz know there is an upcoming election, and the more they can twist these types of stories to fit their gun control agenda, the better it will be for either Hillary or Barack on election day. The picture showing Chetry is from a Halloween party, and in real life, I'm sure she's as anti-gun as any liberal out there.
The media never takes the time to mention how many law abiding gun carriers there are walking the streets right now. Funny how when someone gets stabbed to death they don't call for a ban on knives. Libs are stupid.
De La Cruz Idiot...
February 18, 2008 - 13:42 ET by American TaxpayerI hold a concealed weapons permit and although currently it would be illeagal to carry any firearm on a school campus, De La Cruz and other left wing liberal stupid asses are cluless that the armed students are already breaking the law. Personally when one of these nut jobs produces a weapon during class it would be nice to see them confronted by law abiding citezens that are locked and loaded. As an example several weeks ago a woman with a C.W permit shot and killed a would be murderer at a local Church no less. When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them, De La Cruz thinks all criminals will race to the police to turn in thier weapons. How utopian to live in la la land you ignorant Stupid ass...
Right on
February 18, 2008 - 15:58 ET by iveseenitallRight on,Taxpayer. We are about an inch away from total chaos in this country. Four decades of "la la land" liberalism have paved the way. I went to collge in the 60's. Big school, big city. Never worried about being shot. I wonder why. Ironically, we are losing more of our freedoms every day. And the election of B.O.or Hillary may be just the thing to send us over the edge. Sad.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
The Media Will Never Get It
February 18, 2008 - 14:02 ET by OldSailor88Once again over 3 million Concealed Carry Qualified citizens didn't commit a crime yesterday. Not only that, none of these law abiding citizens were allowed to protect themselves on a University campus and people may have died because of it. I don't know if there was anyone in that auditorium with a permit, but my bet is that there was and because of Gun Free Zone laws wasn't able to carry. You notice that this never happens at a firearms show at the local convention center?
American Taxpayer, nice to hear that one of us was able to stop a crime. Could you provide a link to a local paper or something so that I may add it to my reference file? Thanks in advance.

Anyone see today's video of the Texas clerk who shot
February 18, 2008 - 15:49 ET by RJat a would-be robber after he shot at her? (They didn't hit each other, but he ran away.)
The kicker is when the woman announcer on CNN or MSNBC (I was channel flipping) said something like: "it's nice that she found a gun."
FOUND A GUN? What kind of liberal magical thinking is that?
Found a gun?
February 18, 2008 - 15:55 ET by Cool ArrowYep, here in Texas they're layin' around all over the place. Kids teethin' on 'em . . . doorstops . . . hammers . . .
Them guns is like WD-40. 101 uses for 'em.

A little OT, but since
February 18, 2008 - 14:58 ET by motherbeltA little OT, but since we're talking about guns, did you guys know that Her Royal Clintoness knows how to handle a gun, and has even gone hunting???
Clinton told an audience she supported gun rights, two days after a student opened fire on the campus of Northern Illinois University,
killing five before turning the gun on himself. Clinton said she
believed in getting guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill even as she favored protecting the rights of law abiding gun owners.
"I've gone hunting," she said. "I know you may not believe it, but it's true. My father taught us to shoot."
Clinton told reporters later she had once shot a duck in Arkansas, along with "a lot of tin cans, targets and some skeet."
Gosh, is there anyting this woman hasn't done??
→ Yes, motherbelt
February 18, 2008 - 14:59 ET by Cool ArrowAnd as Hillary proceeded to force her socialized healthcare agenda on the public, the noble defiant dying duck shouted AFLAC!!!

February 18, 2008 - 17:34 ET by needleWhile we at it, don't forget that she "tried to join the Marines," but was disqualified for some reason or other. (Severe lack of patriotism?)
Gosh, there may even have been an occasion when she claims to have told the truth.

what?
February 18, 2008 - 19:41 ET by seaniepcan you provide a link to her trying to join the marines?
It's in a few different
February 18, 2008 - 22:53 ET by motherbeltIt's in a few different places, but here you go.
The relevant graf from the WaPo story
She recounted the failed enlistment one time when she was first lady, in a speech to female veterans in June 1994. She said she went to an Arkansas military recruitment office shortly before she married Bill Clinton in fall 1975. Once the Marine recruiter saw the bespectacled law professor, she told the group, he rejected her by saying, "You're too old, you can't see and you're a woman."
The identical narration appears in other places also.
BTW, the "and you're a woman" is a sure sign of the lie. The Marines have accepted women since 1942.
I know why she was rejected...
February 18, 2008 - 21:13 ET by m4ster chiefThe Marines (God Bless'em) will indeed accept ugly females into the Corps, but even they have limits.

Chetry worked at a skeet club
February 18, 2008 - 19:51 ET by KrisChetry used to work at a skeet club in her younger years. Oh come on, even a good anti-gun liberal needs to earn a little spending money. Libs don't have anything against good law abiding citizens shooting clay pigeons, but they do get their panties in a wad over good folks wanting guns to protect themselves.
News anchors like De La Cruz and Chetry are so misinformed. They actually think that there is a way to stop a madman from carrying out what he is bent on doing. So, they can't get their guns and ammunition one way? They think that a crazy and hell-bent person is going to give up and say "oh well, can't get a gun, guess I"ll just forget about that massacre". Believe me, they are going to get a gun, one way or another. Anyone ever heard about the black market? If a few more people were allowed to have conceal/carry permits, there might be a few more good guys with guns to return fire on these savages. I'd love to hear these morons on CNN reveal to the viewers just how many of these massacres are carried out by citizens with conceal/carry permits. I'd really like to know that.
I dont think it happens very
February 19, 2008 - 10:42 ET by ahusserI dont think it happens very often (if at all) because if a CCW person killed someone in an unjustifiable way it would be a staple on the national news for days. I live in MD (The People's Republic therof soon to be a Genuine Socialist Republic). Our two next door states of VA and WVA are right to carry states. Never have heard a peep of any news of a CCW individual doing anything wrong. Would definitely heard of it on the local news. That's the nasty little secret. The truth is right to carry states purportedly have less crime. But the truth isn't in the left/lib agenda.
I don't change the channel when Kiran Chetry talks
February 18, 2008 - 19:35 ET by timotheI just hit the mute button. :)
My sentiments exactly
February 19, 2008 - 05:10 ET by UnsaneAgreed. I can't figure out what happened to her (maybe stupid pills are a prerequisite for employment at CNN). She was a good reporter when she was at Fox News.
That being said, Kiran Chetry is STILL hot... :-)
